The 3031 NFL Super Bowl

The #1 Seed 16-0 AFC Champion Jacksonville Jaguars

Vs

The #3 seed 10-6 NFC Champion New York Giants

Who wins?

The game begins slowly and the second drive by the Jaguars sees WR Joshua Wild catch a ball and he is tackled hard and his elbow is injured, and he leaves the game and won’t returned, ruled out. That drive ends with a FG by Tate to put the Jags up 3-0 with 8:20 on the clock/

The Giants answer with a TD drive and score with a 21 pass to TE Bryce Noisy from QB Burt Folse with 5:44 on the 1st. Then the Wild-less Jags are stopped and again, the Giants won’t be denied and they score a 8 yard pass to WR Myron Murphies win put the giants up 14-3 with 0:57 left in the 1st.

And the same things happened again, and the Jaguars take some some to grind the clock, are eventually stopped after Hoffman tossed a pick to CB Marc Strickland, and the Giants slow things down, and then score with another 8 yard toss to WR Murphies with 6:36 left in the 1st quarter -21-3

Having not shown any signs of life up until now, the Jaguars create a 2 minute hurry up no-huddle drive and score very quickly with a 8 yard pass to WR Poffenroth from Hoffman with 4:28 on the clock. 21-10. The Giants fumble the ball on the kickoff as TE Winston Blades forces a fumble. The Jaguars put on their 4 minute offense hat and score with a 21 yard pass ot RB Kendrick Gaston with 0:20 left and go into the half 21-17.

As they return, the Jags begin and on the kickoff, they too fumble and Menzies’s ball is returned 54 yards for a score by the Giants special teamer Johnnie Stevenson. 28-17. The Jags drive twice and are stopped both times, an d then the Giants kick a Pat Thomas FG as the 3rd draws to a close with 1:31 left in the 3rd – 31-17.

Two plays later, QB Damien Hoffman nails a 55 yard to Maxwell Poffenroth for a score with 0:55 in the 3rd quarter to respond – 31-24.

Then the Jags FS Bernardini picks off Giants QB Burt Folse, but all the Jags can do with the possession is kick a 34 yard Tate FG at the 11:57 mark. 31-27

The Giants again are stopped, and again the Jaguars drive and a pass to WR Darnell Menzies for 5 yards gives them the lead since the 1st quarter and a TD with 7:18 left – 31-34.

But the Giants are nonplussed, and a few minutes later, WR Murphies gets a reverse from 21 yards out and scores. That’s his third TD of the day and the Giants go to 38-34

The Jags must score a TD to still be in it. And that’s what happens. In a fast drive Damien Hoffman moves the ball effectively and quickly and Poffenroth cauthes a 12 yarder for a TD with 2:46 on the clock at that’s 41-38

But that leaves a lot of time on the clock.

But the Jags defense forces the Giant to turnover on downs and wins the game by 3. Close game!

MVP Hoffman with 30 of 41 and 399, and 5:1. Poffenroth caught 102 yards and 3 scores, RB Gaston 9 grabs, 130 yards, and a score, and WR Menzies a score.

Pick by Bernardini
Sack by DT Dwyer
3 KRB by OT Starks
DE Rogers collected 3 hurries and 4 QB Knockdowns

Quiet day for our defense, other than tackling – not a lot of picks, sacks, forced fumbles – that stuff almost exclusively happened on special teams.

It took us a while to adjust to the gameplan minus Wild, but we did and things hummed from there.

Your favorite Jacksonville Jaguars are now 19-0 and finished the season unbeaten, joined the Broncos as the 2nd team to do so.

Welcome Rasnic, you are officially Satre’s replacement. DE Rogers has also arrived officially. He might have been a couple of sacks away from D PLOY too.

I actually think Hoffman shouldn’t have won those awards. I’ll show you:

QB Damien Hoffman, 358 of 517, 4591 yards, 69.2%, 39:9 ratio, 114.7 QB Rating, 14 sacks, 6 knockdown, ZERO Fumbles at all

Alright – he was 6th in passing yards, with 2 players over 5200 yards each. His 39 TD was tied for 2nd most with the guy with the 2nd most yard and the guy with the most had 40. Many QBs has few picks, in fact, QB Ricky Munoz of Green Bay has a better % completion rate, 4656 yards, and just 6 picks. Although fewer TD. This was not a year Hoffman distinguished himself. He won probably because his team went 16-0.

RB Kendrick Gaston – 266 for 1116, 4.2 ypc, 10 rush scores; 48 for 455 yards, 7 receiving scores
RB Chance Braddock, 164 for 549, 3.35 ypc, 6 rush td; 14 for 161 and 1

Gaston is a grind-ahead power RB, and we have a road grader capable O Line, but we just went pass more often. Can’t fault that. I suspect that I might move on from Gaston (sad, he was a 7.27 draft pick for us).

WR Joshua Wild – 102 for 1395 and 12 TD
WR Maxwell Poffenroth – 93 for 1346 and 8 TD
WR Darnell Menzies, 38 for 400 and 6 scores
TE Tony Gasho, 23 for 301 and 1 score

Not anywhere near the top of the charts. The huge passing numbers for a lot fo QBs this year drove a lot of receivers up.

WR/KR/PR Menzies 36 PR< 12.9 average, 29 KR, 1 KR RET TD, 30.7 avg

K Duane Tate, 36 of 39 FGM, 62/62 PAT, long of 54

You can’t fault my cheap K for sucking when he doesn’t suck!

DE Jordan Rogers, 15 sacks, 2 blocks, 22 hurries, 18 QBKD
DE Gregory Burton, 7.5 sacks, 18 hurries, 10 QBKD
DT Zachery Stevenson – 3.5 sacks, 1 block, 6 hurries,
DT Thomas Dwyer, 3.5 sacks, 5 blocks, 10 hurries, 4 QBKD
DT Grayson Clark, 2 sacks, 1 block, 7 hurries, 2 FF, 2 FumReec

Rogers led the league in sacks by 1. Meanwhile, Burton has returned to earth it seems. Meanwhile, yes, we need to go 3-4 I think.

SLB Ezra Wilkerson – 55 solo tackles, 17 assist, 2.5 sacks, 1 block, 1 hurry, 1 INT, 9 pasdef
MLB Eduardo Sweat, 72 and 16 tack; 2 sacks, 2 block, 3 hurri, 1 QBKD, 2 INT< 9 Pasdef, 2 FF
WLB Casey Joyner, 1 sack, 1 block, 1 INT, 1 pasdef

Although that WLB does nothing ever for us but take up space. Not even Justin Houston could do that much with it.

FS Quentin Bernardini, 66 solo, 26 asst; 2 hurri, 4 oucjsm 1 INT RET TD< 15 pasdef
SS Malachi McKnight, 89 solo, 29 ass; 1 sack, 1 block, 1 hurr, 1 INT, 6 pasdef, 3 FF
CB Allen Hutchings , 5 picks, 8 pasdef, 1 INTI RET TD,
CB Colton Hanks, 4 picks, 6 pasdef, 1 INT RET TD, FF
CB Cary Greene, 4 picks, 2 INT RET TD, 12 passdef

And finally a solid year from my secondary. Took a while!

Blocking:

OG Lamar Rasnic, 42 KRB, 6 pancakes, 2 sacks allowed
OC Myron Leggin, 25 KRB and 4 sacks
OG David Blades, 21 and 4 pancakes and 1 sack
OT Sergio Keith, 21 and 2 sacks
OT Starks, 11 starts, 1- and 1 pancakes and 2 sacks
OT Matthews, 5 starts, 8 KRB, 1 sack
TE Gasho, 8 KRB

Well, Rasnic had a great year, no question. Keith was fine for a rookie. No one else impressed at all.

Team Awards:

Offensive Player of the Year: OG Lamar Rasnic – You made All Pro, you had a ton of KRB, and don’t forget a 7 and 6 KRB games that show you have what it takes long term. You deserve this award baby!

Defensive Player of the Year: CB Cary Greene – We had issues last year with picks. This year, you got great coverage, picks, interceptions returned for scores, and an All Pro nod to boot. It’s so nice to see a CB signing not bust, like say, (cough…Kareem Jackson…cough).

Special Teams Player of the Year – K Duane Tate – Duane Tate is a 36/36 K. Shoot, he should probably be eligible for Heart Award with the performance he brought it In fact, for his career thus far, only one eyar has he sucked at G (He was 26 of 27 for green Bay back in 2027). Overall he’s 146 of 168 so far. You can’t argue stats.

Rookie of the Year: OT Sergio Keith – 21 KRB is a great start for the next level. We saw players like Blades and Starks begin with low 20s numbers before catapulting. Now what can you bring, LT buddy?

Heart Award: WR Darnell Menzies – The 18/18 11th year specialist still caught 6 TDs from the Hoff. Over his career with us he’s caught 19 scores and had 2500 yards. Meanwhile he is a kick entrepreneur. He’s a return guy par excellence, and racked up another return TD this year. He’s had 7 for us in 7 years, and been a strong returner every year. Eventually he’ll drop, or we can’t afford him, or he retires. But man, Menzies just keeps on bringing it at 33 years of age. Menzies has 8945 KR yards and 3816 PR yards in his career. That’s 12671 return yards, (That would place him 6th in the NFL right now for career).

Score:

Performance – 90 – I have no idea how to do better!
Value – 100
Profit – 77
Roster – 22

Score – 80

Sigh, retirements… We have three

WR Joshua Wild has retired.

Wild finished with 7 All Pro nods, was fastest man of the year 3 times, won 4 Super Bowl rings, and finishes with 17685 yards and 129 TDs. (That would place him 2nd on yards and 5th on TDs, between Harrison at 128 and Carter at 130).

Wild is clear and away the best WR of his era, and a obvious first’ ballot HOF inclusion

Meanwhile, CB Colton Hanks is retiring. The 3rd.32 pick buy us notched up two Super Bowl wins in his 12 year season, grew into a starter, and had 31 picks, 4 returned for scores, and 83 pasdef, but never a breakout season. Like Wild, he played his whole career for us.

Our final retiree is LS Kent Ikuma

Other players of note:

QB Logan Thomas, 1 Bowl win, Legend of the Game, Super Bowl MVP last year in 3030 for the Cards, (One of the last real life players in the dynasty, retired at 40)
TE Kenyon Page – Undrafted FA we grabbed, had a productive 11 year career for 6 different teams.
WR Irving Jordon – The Colts lost one of their recent greats, kind of like their Allen Robinson
WR Jameson Prior – 13 year vet, 4 time All Pro, played whole career for Bucs, finished with 15009 yards and 116 TD.
WR Britt Galloway – 3 time All Pro
DT Calvin Stacy - 5 time all pro, 14 year career, Ring, 91.5 sacks
DT Alex Sweeney – 4 time all pro, 12 year vet, 72.5 sacks
SLB Kyle Abrams, 4 time all pro,
SLB Leon Chaves, 5 time all pro, Defensive Player of the Year in 2023, Ring
CB Rico Warren, 4 all pro, but just 36 picks
CB Conrad Watson – 4 time all pro, 2 Rings for Baltimore, 52 picks,

We suspect that Stacy joins Wild in HOF obviously. After that, could be Watson, or Sweeney or Thomas.

New Hall of Fame:

QB Blake Bortles and DE Cesar Velazquez have joined the HOF as Jaguars players! Bortles is just the 4th player with 1000% vote. #5 is retired for the Jaguars.

Others include– WR Stedman Bailey, QB Andy Dalton, Russell Wilson, Andrew Luck, Jimme Ward

I want to sign QB Damien Hoffman to a flat-ish long term contract that won’t bite me. Right now they want 5 years, 205 mill, with a cap hit in 41, 45 and 50 mill. That’s a ton of cash I don’t want to spend. Okay, we got the deal:

Cap hit – 31 mill, 31 mill, 32, 32, and 42.

Alrighty. I advance the stage I want to see what OT Starks might cost – he wants 1 year deal for 10 mill.

But, I have some players that I want to re-up first.

I extend C Leggin by two years

I extend MLB Eduardo Sweat. I’m not letting him go

I cut RB Gaston. I re-sign OG Rasnic with the change. Flat cap of 12 mill for three years and then 15.

We have 38 players on the roster. I have 21 mill under the cap, 10 mill for new players I really don’t have a lot of cash for a one year deal with Starks. Sorry. I’ll just use Matthews and Keith

I make an offer to LS Rex Cole. That’ll be 2 mill of my cap space right there. I don’t have that much left.

I could cut DT Dwyer due to moving to a 3-4, and such. I would like to extend Gati and Popson for sure, as solid backups for their positions. I’d also like to rehire Menzies at some point in time as well.

Our needs right now:

Starting RB, WR
Backup QB
Backup TE
KR/PR if not Menzies
2x backup WR
Backup OT
Backup DEx2
DT Maybe if 4-3
2x LB if 3-4
CBX3

Maybe starter at CB and OT. I need RB and WR. Any good news in FA?

No WR is better than 47/47, and no WR that’s younger than 30 is better than 45/45.

Who has the best PR in FA? A RB names Levi Sim.s Then Menzies. Who has the best current KR in FA? Menzies is 4th best.

At RB we have a 46/46 th year vet, Howard Tubbs who wants 3 mill and just a one yeardeal. We drop the half0way decent RB very quickly as well

Let me check out draft stuff. Maybe I can identify a good RB/WR candidate in consideration at 1.32?

I scout some RB and WR< and there are a few WR I like in the draft, not super Wild studs but more like Poffenroth potentials. Three are a few RB too. I also uncovered a very underrated CB as well – the 3r one on the board.

Anyway, let’s head back to FA. I think I can do WR in the draft. Can’t guarantee it.

The best FA out there is 60/60 QB Gene Stoyanovich, 11th year et. Then OT Starks, and then FB, SS, and RB Gaston. Just not a lot there.

I sign RFA TE Marco Blackburn to remove one roster need,

Stage 2 – Starks heads to New Orleans, QB Gene to Minnesota.

Stage 6 – DE Alston signed with the Rams,

Stage 7 – We sign LS Rex Cole

I sign RFA P Shawn Oakes, who is 54/54 to a three year deal and I cut my other P.

Stage 8 – Gaston signs with Denver. Former 7th round CB Graham DeWine heads to the Vikings

Stage 10 – DT Rick Greer heads to the Seahawks

Anyone chap that fell we can use to bolster our roster pre-draft?

Not really

The 3032 NFL Amateur Draft

With my luck, I’ll spend twice as much time on the draft to get half the results!

Philadelphia kicks this thing off by grabbing a QB.

Damn, a lot of quality talent is waiting. The best WR on the board is still there after the top ten and we have a stud RB there as well. There are some other great talents on the board too. At the 1.15 spot, we still have available:

WLB Mickey Wickson
NT Cooper Zimmerman
FL Adrian McHugh
RB Riddick Guthrie

I interview everyone but Zimmerman and they are all looking good. Other teams dipped hard into the line and QB and secondary. I think Guthrie is the nest RB in the draft, McHugh either the 1st or 2nd best, Wickson the best LB of any sort, and Zimmerman the best D Line and DT in the draft by bars (although we didn’t interview him)

So, I doubt all four fall to us at 1.32. I doubt any of them do. But could you imagine me moving a bunch of picks and grabbing my future RB, WR studs at both spots, right now for my roster? We’d be set, and it’s been very hard to find quality RB. It would be nice to trade up and snatch one.

And if I moved up and grabbed Guthrie, I would be able to wait for finding a WR later. Just hypothetically, what’s the cost to move to 1.15 or 1.16 from 1.32?

1.32 is worth 590
1.16 is worth 1000

I’d need to give up 410 to get close. That’s a high 2nd. My low 2.32 is 270. There are a few players I like on the board that I expect at 2.32. For example the 8th overall OT, Hector Johnson, has no combine scores, but great bars, and he interviewed as scouted. I’m very okay grabbing him in the 2nd. I have taken a lot of non-combine folks recently who fall on draft day, and I expect Johnson to do the same (DT Zimmerman is the same).

So, to trade I’d need something like a future 2nd and something else.

Now I don’t have a lot of money in the kitty for a lot of moves up, so I want to trade picks this year, ideally. Dallas at 1.15 has a glaring need in the secondary and takes a S at 1.15

But at 1.16 are the Bills, and their #1 need his offseason is RB. There is a low chance that RB Guthrie won’t be taken here. He’s technically the 2nd back on the board, but all three have the same ranking. I interviewed them and they are very overrated, as scouted, and overrated.

Would you trade a future 2 and a 3rd or 4th this year for the RB that makes your team sing? But we’ve signed great backs in the past and sometimes, cough DeMarco Murray, their impact wasn’t what I’d hope. If I make this trade and it doesn’t work out, I’m screwed. Ish. I skip it. No RB

As expected, the Bills grab RB Guthrie.

Then Washington selects WR at 1.18. Oh oh!

This leaves McHugh at the top of the WR list and a WR needy team next. Washington didn’t need WR that was an odd pick. Now I believe more in the power of a high-quality WR than a RB. Especially now. I need a post-Wild guy to stretch the field and to pair with Poffenroth.

I call up the KC GM on the phone and we hammer quickly an agreement in theory. :

My 1.32 and 3.32 this year and 2nd rounder in two years for their 1.18.

Before I make this deal, I want to step back and pause. We don’t lack for quality WR talent in the league. As of today, there are 5 WRs with a current 70+ ranking and another 13 that are 60+. That’s 18 WR that have at least a 60 current ranking. That’s not some lack of talent, but quality WR just don’t hit FA, and when they do, they are very old, like Steadman Bailey a few years ago. Teams hold onto them. They also don’t tend to fall too much in the draft. I have drafted precisely two receivers – Wild and Poffenroth in our normal area in the late 1st. Wild fell into our lap and was a BAP, the other was forced when Lee retired.

So, without Wild, and without making this play, right now, it’s hard to see how my team can get another solid quality WR.

Let’s dig into further. These are the rounds and pick number, that all 60+ WR’s were drafted in, frm the best at 79/79 down through 60/60

1.16
1.1
1.7
1.9
1.14
2.2 (Maxwell Poffenroth, on our team)
1.13
1.16
1.7
1.14
2.4
1.25
1.23
1.5
1.11
2.1
1.10
1.23

So the lesson is very simple. If you want to get a WR in the 60+ value, 15 times out of 18, you have to invest a 1st round selection. The three times you didn’t, you couldn’t wait past 2.4. In fact, only 3 times could you get a top WR in the second half of the first round starting at 1.17

Are other positions like this? How about CB? There are only 10 CB in the league with a 60 or higher right now, as opposed to 18 WRs in that range. And yes, all ten were 100% 1st round folks. What about…say…DE, another high priority spot. There are just 13 DE at 60 or higher. There are a few later rounds, including one 5th, but most all 1sts. RB is very different. You have top RB that fell off the board in the 2nd round, at the 1.32 spot, in fact, of the 9 RBs in the 60+ rating, 5 were 2nd rounders and 4 1sts.

There is clearly a direct correlation with getting a 60+ WR and investing a draft pick from the 1st half of the 1st round.

So the only thing forcing me to pause on this trade is that we still have 2 really strong WLB and NT on the board that I rate, very, very highly. Good DT talent never falls this late. DT Zimmerman is the best player on the board, and has been for almost 10 picks, since the 1.9 spot.

But my roster needs a WR too. And DT. And WLB> We could use it all!

DT Zimmerman is a natural 3-4 NT. I could draft Zimmerman and WLB Wickson and just fully commit to the 3-4 transition. That’d be awesome! Or I could grab Zimmerman, convert him to LDT or something, and remain with my 4-3 now that I found my DT of the future. Good stuff all around, right?

But no matter what, I need a WR. And there’s one on the board…

Sigh…. I make the trade.

1.18 FL Adrian McHugh, Nevada

Adrian McHugh comes in as a 13 volatility, as scouted, 24% developed, with a 4.41 40 time, great intelligence, agility, and red position scores .

Alright let’s slow roll this:

1.19 – Cleveland takes SLB
1.20 Baltimore trades up and grabs ILB
1.21 New Orleans CB
1.22 Vikings CB
1.23 – Titans CB

How is Zimmerman STILL ON THE BOARD?

Am I delusional?

I call up the Baltimore GM at 1.24 to consider trading. He is willing to talk:

I give – my future 1st rounder in 2034.

I get 1.24, and 4th rounder in 2034

Every DT with a 60+ value was grabbed in the 1st round, just one in the 20s, and just 2 more outside of the top ten. If you want a 60+ DT, you have to invest a top ten pick 10 out of 13 times to get one. They do not fall. And if I want to get myself a real DT, this is my shot.

This is my shot. I don’t get DT this good. Ever. I make the trade and I draft

1.24 DT Cooper Zimmerman, South Carolina

Alright, let’s keep going.

1.25 Denver goes OT
1.26 Chicago goes TE
1.27 Seattle takes WLB Mickey Wickson and that takes away my final Should I Trade target away.

At the back of the 2nd round, I really like RT Hector Johnson, and he’s still there. I targeted him, interviewed him, and I love him

2.32 RT Hector Johnson, Washington State

I’ll see ya’ll in round 4.

Near the top of the round I like K. We have a stud K Harris Parrish who hasn’t gone. Nobody has cracked the special teams folks yet, so this is a great chance to grab a BAP that I wasn’t even looking for. Not going to turn that away.

And then from there I just draft need.

4.5 K Harris Parrish, Arkansas – Pine Bluff
4.32 DE Alfredo Osborne, Montana
5.32 QB Jaylen Millar, Louisiana - Lafayette
6.32 CB Garrett Gibson, Kentucky
7.3 – MLB Isaac Mahoney, Clemson
7.32 – FS Abel Wolfe, Delaware

Early early draft comments: K Parrish – 49/77; FL McHugh, 39/69; NT Zimmerman 46/69; RT Johnson, 27/61

Now, that’s early early. Everything changes once you hit camp and preseason. No one else on our roster is anything other than depth. No one, other than DE Osborne at 16/41 even has a 40 potential. Ah well. This draft isn’t about these late gems that I unearthed – it’s about the first four pulls.

We have 3 players on the green page.

WLB Wickson is 37/79

“Do the Jaguars even draft by the same rules as the rest of the league? I mean sure, lots of teams trade on draft day to pick up talent that has fallen that meets their needs. There were seven 1st round draft deals today alone – only 2 by the Jaguars. But the Jags really seems to know how to target players effectively. They traded and picked up top talent at places you normally have to invest high draft picks to acquire and filled two needs in doing so. Then they grabbed an absolute steal at the back of the 2nd round and the best K to enter the league in what, three years, maybe four? Definitely a powerful draft. They could easily have found four future pieces for their team going forward. I grade it A+”

We move to Late FA

We still need:

2 RB, one starter if possible
2 WR, or one Menzies and one WR
DE
2x CB
Maybe LB

Alright, what is rocking the block?

I make an offer to RB Steve Conley, a 2nd year 42/42 UFA from last year that the Redskins dropped.

These UFA:

RB Deron Downs
RB Bo Apolonio
QB Caden Kubrak
WR Damian Geathers
WR Sammy Schulz
LT Tyrone Barlow
CB Phillip Magar
CB Kaden Richard
WR Kim Riley
MLB Ronnie Duran
DE Jake Campbell

Kim might be a future Darnell Menzies. We’ll see post camp. Meanwhile Ronnie could be a future LB gunner like Gati or players like Okabi before him.

That’s a lot of UFA talent to bring in, I know!

Stage 1 – We sign 4 players to our roster. I fend off offers from some of our UFA by offering a small bonus, and I also up our deal to RB Conley to fight through three other teams.

Stage 2 – We sign 6 more players, including RB Conley.

Stage 3 – Our last target comes in. I’ll head to camp, and if Kim Riley looks like Darnell Menzies then I’m all set. If not, I can sign him.

Anyone else out there that fell through the cracks and is pretty solid and cheap? Nah.

Now, pre-Camp, do I need to massage my roster a bit? Or are we good at 4-3?

We are officially staying with a 4-3 roster. It’s working, and I’m afraid of losing rush stats with DE Rogers and Burton.

I move Zimmerman to regular DT and SLB Ellwood to WLB.

Camp time!!!

We sold 62,700 season tickets

I begin to cut UFAs that aren’t going to make the roster:

RB Deron Downs
RT Tyrone Barlow

I also cut K Duane Tate and QB Joe Peterson and WR Vincent Cunningham and FS Abel Wolfe

I have depth now at DT for the first time ever. In fact, I have four players who are all strong. I head out to shop DT Grayson Clark and I end up shipping him:

We trade DE Grayson Clark to the Houston Texans

For their

2nd and 4th round selections in 2034

This is the year we moved our 1st and 2nd from in order to trade up twice. The 2nd rounder is a spare pick the Texans got from San Diego, and then their 4th.

I sign UFA DT Mitchell Washington to come and sit on our inactive bench

We go 3-1 in the preseason, and our rookies look okay-ish.

Any major drop offs elsewhere?

CB Hutchings ebbed to 45/45 from 48/48 last year.
FS Bernardini is down to 76/76
WLB Casey Joyner is at 43/43

Other news:

LG Rasnic is 74/74; LT Sergio Keith is 62/72; WLB Van Ellwood 52/67; TE Tony Gasho 60/60

Among our four rookies, OT Hector Johnson has ebbed a bit. He’s down to 30/53 from a lot better. He’s off the Green page. If he finishes 50/50 I’ll be surprised, and he may end up at 48/48 or 45/45 or something.

Now, here’s my other three folks:

K Harris Parrish is the one I know you want to see the least, so I like keeping the mystery alive. His 55/79 looking sexiness is open for the world for see. Just two kickers in the NFL are currently 70+ with their current rating, so Parrish could be a real thing.

Now let’s look at DT. Here’s my Coup:

DT Cooper Zimmerman, and he’s grown in camp and pre-season to 54/73 and looks incredibly strong. This is the rock we can build our D Line around for a long time. Again you don’t get DTs this late that are this good. Book it.

And how about the new Wild? Not really, but he’s fine:

FL Adrian McHugh

46/72 is a solid place to be. Now you saw that he’s injured in preseason with a hammy, but that’s okay. I’m just happy to have McHugh on our team. We need another guy to catch the ball from Hoffman. And this guy isn’t exactly bad and catching balls.

Can’t argue with those folks

Roster?

So we have a few minor injuries to DT Stevenson, FL McHugh, SLB Wilkerson but I think we are in a solid place. I keep unearthing random starters in later rounds, much likes 6.17 SS Malachi Mcknight, 4.30 MLB Eduardo Sweat, 4.31 DT Zachery Stevenson and WLB Ellwood is the next at 3.31 and he replaces Joyner, 4.24 guy who started a few years for us back when he was 52/52. We just moved a late 3rd DT Clark for a 2nd and a 4th in the future. So we can find solid defensive talent without worries.

Roster Strength:

3rd best QB
5th worst RB
19th best FB
7th best TE
10th best WR
7th best C
2nd best OG
9th best OT
14th best P
11th best K
THE best DE
14th best DT
16th best ILB
3rd best OLB
6th best CB
THE best S

We are the youngest team in the league at 25.8, more than 1 year younger than San Diego at #2.

Stats!

QB Hoffman – 13 games, 326 of 44, 71.8%,3717 yardsm 29:6 ratio, 111.8 QB Rating, 15 sacks, 1 fumble, didn’t even lose it – recovered it

We had 2 players with 5000+ passing yards and 6 more with 4000+. Hoffman was down in rating, %, yards, and so forth. As expected

RB Steve Conley, 262 for 1251 yards, 4.77 ypc, 15 rush TD

Was 4th most rushing yards in league. Had the most rush yards in the league. With one more 100 yard game likely would have led league and gotten All Pro.

WR McHugh – 125 grabs, 1741 yards, 15 scores
WR Poffenroth – 112 for 1319 and 13 scores
WR Damien Geathers, 41 for 519 yards and 2 scores

Well, there you are! The NFL had 2 2000 yard receivers this year. McHugh was 3rd and Poffenroth 6th in yards. No other WR – not Lee, Wild, or Poffenroth had as good of a rookie season as McHugh had for us. And this was Poffenroth’’s best season for us thus far, btw.

Special Teams

WR Kim Riley, 42 PR, 9.8 avg, 31 KR ,24.1 avg

Not really great numbers

K Harris Parrish – 25/27, 52 long, 57/57 PAT

P Shawn Oakes, 3/4 FG, 2/2 PAT (Spelling injured Parrish); 83 punts, 45.9 avg, 33 in 20

Defense:

DE Jordan Rogers, 61 tackles, 14 asst; 16.5 sacks, 3 blocks, 29 hurries, 30 QBKD.
DE Gregory Burton, 5.5 sacks, 2 blocks, 22 hurries, 1 QBKD, 2 FumREc
DT Thomas Dwyer, 5.5 sacks, 4, 16, 2
DT Cooper Zimmerman, 5.5 ssacks, 1 block, 7 hurries, 2 QBKD
DT Z Stevenson, 4 scks, 1, 10, 7

Rogers had the 2nd most sacks in NFL this year, and Zimmerman was a solid debut for a rookie. But Burton? I expect more from you.

MLB Eduardo Sweat, 92 tack, 30 asst, 3 sacks, 2 hurries, 1 pick, 5 pasdef, 1 INT RET TD
SLB Wilkerson, 70 and 21 tack, 1 sack, 7 pasdef, 2 FF
WLB Van Ellwood, 0.5 sacks, 2 hurries

Nothing too major here

SS Malachi McKnight, 75 and 25 tack; 1 sack. 3 hurries, 3 picks, 9 pasdef, 4 FF,
FS Quentin Bernardini, 55 and 17 tack; 1 sack, 1 blocked pass, 5 pick, 11 pasdef
CB Allen Hutchings, 3 picks, 9 pasdef, 2 INT RET TD
CB Cary Greene, 3 picks, 12 pasdef, 3 FF, 2 fumrec,

Not amazing years here, but not too shabby either. Serviceable.

Blocking:

OG Lamar Rasnic, 30 KRB, 3 pancakes, 2 sacks allowed
OG David Blades, 24, 4 pancakes and 2 sacks
OT Sergio Keith, 24, 7 sacks allowed
OC Myron leggin, 23 and 3 sacks.
OT Brant Matthews, 16 and 5 sacks allowed

It’s time to let Matthews go.We’ll move rookie OT Hector Johnson to his spot for next year.

Team Awards:

Offensive Player of the Year: WR Maxwell Poffenroth – He gave us a better year than ever before and a was a great leader on the team for rookies McHugh and class to emulate. He had more catches, yards, and 2nd most scores in a year than ever. The 7th year vet from West Virginia University is looking better than ever!

Defensive Player of the Year: DE Jordan Rogers – He was the lone All Pro light on the defense, and he earned it, no questions asked. But he had a good, keeping-his-form year after turning it on last year. Welcome to the club buddy!

Special Teams Player of the Year: P Shawn Oakes – Was one of the best seasons we’ve had 3with a P in a long time, and did a strong job spelling our K when needed as well. This was a strong year for P Oakes.

Rookie of the Year: WR Adrian McHugh –Nasty stuff indeed! Our draft machinations worked out it seems. 3rd most yards, tons of catches and TDs. In his entire career with us, WR Joshua Wild only once had more than 1700+ yards. McHugh has it in his first season!

Heart Award: QB Caden Kubrak – the undrafted free agent stepped in, had a great turn at the wheel, and got us three more wins on the season. He was no disappointment, and did everything you could ask. He grabbed us 73 of 118, 61.9%, 905 yards and 5:1 ratio and 96.2 rating. That’s better, spread over a season, than a lot of full time guys. Thanks buddy!

We have 3 11 year vets (QB Lyons, C Leggin, LS Cole) and 2 10 years (OLB Wilkerson, DE Burton). Are any heading to that quiet place in the Caribbean and turning in retirement papers?

End of Season:

Performance – 86
Value – 100
Profit – 73
Roster – 21

Score – 76

SLB Ezra Wilkerson retires. I would have preferred Leggin. Ah well.

SLB Wilkerson – We traded up in the 2nd round of the 2023 draft to grab him. He never missed a game:

160 starts, 667 tackles, 188 assists, 22.5 sacks, 2 blocked passes, 23 hurries, 13 QBKD, 5 picks, 70 passes defensed, 14 forced fumbles, 6 recovered

Always a rock, but never reached All Pro. 2 championship rings and the undefeated season he started last year.

Other retirements of note:

QB CJ Ellison, retires as legend of th game, was the best QB for a while in the league, made Baltimore, won Super Bowls, etc.

RB Kendrick Gaston – former 7th rounder and a starter for us., Retired after not getting rushes in Denver’s system.

LG Mike Statler – 4 time All Pro

LT Benjamin Givens – 3 time All Pro

FA Time!

I actually get a trade offer for DE Rogers that I don’t automatically reject – a 59/59 RB and a 1.18 pick this year. But I can’t make that play. If it were Burton they were coming after? But not Rogers.

Players that I may need to extend:

SS Malachi McKnight
WLB Casey Joyner
LS Rex Cole
CB Cary Greene
CB Monty Glenn
DE Jordan Rogers
DE Gregory Burton
RB Steve Conley

Some of these, cough, Rogers, cough, is going to cost some serious cash to keep.

I extend Cole.

I want to bring McKnight and Rogers into my full-time contract club, but here are the players from the next year’s draft we are going to want to keep around as well:

LB Van Ellwood, 60/67 whom I’ll likely move back to SLB now that Wilkerson is retired
DT Zachery Stevenson 50/54
TE Tony Pasho 60/60
OT Sergio Keith 71/71

Here’s the McKnight/Rogers problem:

SS Malachi McKnight – 57/57:

Currently at 1.3 mill because he was a 6th rounder. Extends to 50+ mill and 5 year deal.

DE Rogers – 85/85:

Currently at 5 mill as a 1.22 overall pick by us. Wants 5 years and 160+ mill, jumping to 25 this year and then 29 next.

That is some major cap damage

At 60/60, Gasho is going to want 10+ mill a year as the 7th best TE in the league.

TEs:

94/94
83/83
67/67
66/66
64/64
63/63
60/60 – Gasho
58/58
55/55
54/54
48/58

Top ten TE by current or future includes those 11 folks. A 60/60 Gasho is worth a real contract. No question.

In FA/Draft I am looking for these starters:

FB
OLB
RB

And these backups:

QB
RBx2
WRx3
C
OG
OT
DE
DTx2
LBx2
CBx3

CB Allen Hutchings is in his 10th year and already began to fall and free agent signee Cary Greene is 9th year. Both are 31. Getting a younger CB starter wouldn’t be a bad idea either.

I advance FA a week to get to be able to make offers:

Major FA Players:

RB Percy Romine, 65/65. 7th year vet though, wants 3 year deal for 12 mill range. That’s pretty solid.

CB Malik Coxwell – 66/66, 6th year vet, wants 4 years, 78 mill

FL Cedric Wilcox, 61/61, 5th year, wants 4 years, 54 mill – If I want to push a strong three WR corps

There are a few high profile, older, DE ,like 64/64 DE Jalen Bradley, 10th year vet and 58/58 Dillon Matteson, 11th year.

WLB Devon McCarthy, 5th year vet, 54/54, wants 4 yers, 57 mill

This is just a strong FA class.

We have younger players, like a 54/54 5th year OG and such. There are two 50/50 RBs on the board as well.

Alright, let’s sign DE Rogers.

He wants 5 years, 160+ mill.

I end up with a flatter, but high cap hit, 5 years and 136 mill. 26.7 cap hit this year, and it drops a bit next year (same salary, but no additional cap hit from rookie deal)

Ways to free up cap space:

Cut 42/42 TE Blades; WLB Casey Joyner

Extend Burton and drop his cap hit this year from 26 mill to 19 mill, extending it one year.

Cut Burton to free 21 mill instead

Free up 2 mill by extended CB Greene for two years.

Cut Greene to free up more cap space than it worth. No reason to do that.

We are 20 mill under the cap, and 10 mill free for new players. I want to chase Romine.

The best way to free up cap is to cut Burton. But Burton feels like a womb to tomb player for me. And yet, 5.5 sacks isn’t going to cut it, and Burton was never that great sackmaster, like Velazquez was. He has 96 sacks in ten years, with that Defensive Player of the Year award a few years ago in 2030. He’s had a similar career to Mario Williams.

Burton has never been that sackmaster supreme. But he has been playing LDE< the hard position, because, for most of his career with us, that’s been his place. Maybe I should swap him to RDE next year? Although, to be fair, his pass rush is 39 and strength is 60. That’s not really an RDE style force either.

I push the decision off, but it’s probably time.

I’ll need a DE though, that creates a need. But again, I can make 6 mill by extended DE Burton a year, so I want to hold off a moment. I still want to extend SS Malachi McKnight too.

I sign a few RFA:

WR Kim Riley, QB Caden Kubrak,

I make an offer to RB Percy Romine

I don’t have the cap space to chase CB Maxwell, FL Wilcox or one of the DE. WlB McCarthy wants too much bread as well.

Week 2 – FL Wilcox heads to Tennessee; DE Bradley and Matters to Arizona and Tennessee, and the 50/50 other RB target to Tennessee as well. The Titans are cleaning up FA thus far. I bump up Romine’s deal.

Week 3 – We sign RB Romine to a 3 year, $13.28 mill deal. CB Coxwell is heading to Baltimore.

Now, I only need OLB and FB as starters.

I take a gander at the draft.

Not a good OLB draft, but a few intriguing ILB. I interview a few of those.

I also interview the top 5 DE in case.

Not a good looking draft either. Ugh. The DE and MLB will go early as a result.

I also interview a few CB as well. I could stand to really youthen my cornerbacks.

Can’t rely on getting great talent this draft at 1.30.

I extend OG Hugh Stone, my primary backup ot the OG spot.

I still have two major players I haven’t extended:

CB Cary Greene, DE Gregory Burton

And I have some cap space (4 mill) I can free up when. if I cut backup (for now) WLB Casey Joyner. But Joynmer would likely be our starter at WLB when I move Ellwood back to SLB. Never mind. I have an idea. I have always liked SLB Jared Gati. Could I move him to WLB instead?

Week 4 – WLB McCarthy heads to Carolina.

Week 8 – FB Robbie Bauer is heading to Washington, DT Thomas Dwyer to New Orleans

Week 9 – OT Brant Matthews signs with the Colts.

Week 10 – I take a looksee to see if any intriguing folks fell.

I make an offer to RG Trent Clark to return to our team for two vet-min sal years.

I do the same for QB Matt Lyons.

I want to resign RFA WR Damian Geathers, CB Richard Kaden and MLB Devan Comer but they both want too much cash for backup type folks

I make an offer to RB Micah Falvey for a 2 year vet min sal deal, 42/42. 6th year man from Atlanta.

Week 11 – I sign QB Lyons, RB Falvey, and OG Clark.

I’ll probably cut QB Jaylen Millar later on. But that’s not saving me any real cash, so we’ll see how he grows post-camp.

I want t make an offer to MLB Comer. But, I need more cash – I’m out of money.

I cut WLB Casey Joyner. I offer Comer, who will be my new team leader post-Joyner, and work well with three people on that squad.

Comer:

DE Rogers – Strong Affinity
DE Alfredo Osborne – Exceptional affinity
LB Van Ellwood – Exceptional Affinity

That was the right play

We have 41 players on the team and we’ll pick up 8 in the draft.

The 2033 NFL Amateur Draft

The Redskins start things off by going DE.

We need:

WRx2
FB
C
OT
DE
DTx2
LB (maybe 2)
CBx3

Because of how weak this draft appears to be outside of a few hitters at the top, I am enticed to package and move up. For example, according to the trade chart, I can turn a 1/30 and a 2/30 into a 1/18. I give 904 points for 900, and even if that team wanted more value the 1.19 should prove a decent enough spot.

Players begin to move off the board with rapidity. I like a DE on the board later on. And I make my move to get him. He interviewed well, and looks sexy.

Do I make a play for him?

That’s the end of the Burton era. DE is the only position with the depth and quality in this draft to make a play. None of the good players that were anywhere near me (WR, CB, ILB) made it out of the top 10. But a swap to 1/22 where DE Andres Aikman awaits is a solid play.

And that might mean good-bye Burton, but it gives me a DE for a while, assuming everything works out.

I trade:

My 1.30 and 2.30 for Seattle’s 1.22 this year and their 4th and 5th next year when I don’t have a 1st.

I grab DE Aikman

Red score in dash, blue in smarts, strength, and agility. 75 volatility, just 19% developed though.

See you near the end of the 3rd:

There are a few solid choices I like here:

FB Carter Monroe
CB Bert Harvey
OT Ted Moss

My needs are in that order.

I rank them Moss, Monroe and Harvey in ability though.

I go with need and grab Harvey.

Then I draft some need and affinities

The 3033 Jacksonville Jaguars Draft Class

1 – DE Andres Aikman, Georgia
3 – CB Bert Harvey, Louisiana-Monroe
4 – ILB Jacob Cyrus, Toledo
5 – OT Brett Lang, Arizona State
6 – DT Ryan Lang, Oregon
7 – FB Dwight Looker, Miami, FL
WR AJ Blades, Rice

Anyone major?

DE Aikman looks solid.

No one else is worth mentioning.

DT Lang is just 14/24. Yuck. Not one of my better drafts likely. (But again, it looked pretty weak in talent).

Aikman is 4th on the Green Page.

Some of our top-heavy players in the draft:

CB Kai Bryant is 41/88 – 1.3 spot
OT Cory Szymanski – 39/71 – 1.8
OT Juan Goffee, 41/72, 1.10
MLB Terry Gonzalez, 31/80, 1.7
MLB Donovan Alcott, 38/74, 1.6

I could have stayed put and grabbed a 34/60 OT or a 33/64 one that went 2.9. But we didn’t need any OT.

As you can see, pretty weak draft outside of the top ten though. Best WR was 32/48. Best C was 14/44. Best QB was 3/45. Best DT was just 28/55 and you had to draft him 1.15, and no other DT is over 50 potential. Just one OLB had more than 47 potential – 36/58, taken at 1.5.

Take CB. After the studly Kai Bryant, the next best is 27/51 Glen Stamm, and then 32/49 Connor Gomez. There’s just not a lot of depth this year after the top players.

Here are the players that went late 2nd when I traded out:

2.30 – LT Fiume, 23/47
2.31 – RG JT Whalen, 17/50
2.32 – FS Jamal Collier, 22/44
3.1 – TE Walt Laveli, 30/56
3.2 – WLB Roman Hodges, 14/34

So other than TE Laveli, none would have been worth a 2.30 for us. And with a major Gasho investment potentially on the horizon, I’m not sure I would have taken Laveli anyway.

I also made a major mistake in the 3rd taking CB Jarvey. He’s 14/38. Not that great.

The two I was also looking at:

OT Ted Moss when 4.3 to San Diego and is 19/51
FB Carter Monroe went 4.6 to Houston and is 33/54

Both would have been much better choices for us. Now, out FB is 18/48, but you never know with a guy like him if he’ll stay or not.

Anyway, let’s massage that roster.

We are rated A. Not sure why.

Late FA

We have 48 players under contract.

We need:

RB maybe
WR
C
DE Maybe
DT
LB
CBx2

Anyone out there I like?

Let’s begin with UFA:

SLB Nicholas Kates
FS Silas Rice
WR Stanley Poole
C Bradley Porter
DE Quinn Mosier
DT Roman Duncan
OT Frederick McWilliams

I also like:

3rd year vet C Ruben Barrett, wants a 3 year vet min sal deal and is 27/49

RB 2 year vet 44/52 Derrick Borden. He wants 3 year, 5.9 mill That’s a quality body and a young guy. I like him a lot for my #2/#3 RB spot.

If I brought him in, Conley would drop from #1 last year to # 4 on my roster. It’s a move that makes sense.

I cut Burton.

I make an offer for RB Borden and C Barrett

I extend SS McKnight by 5 years and 60 mill. That’s real money to a former 6th round pick!

I make an offer to 41/41 13th year vet WR Clyde Scarbrough to come in for a one year deal and help us catch some balls.

I move Jared Gati to WLB and WLB Ellwood to SLB.

I am also considering swapping DE Aikman and DE Rogers. It’s not like Rogers ain;t playing the run though, he had 61 solo tackles last year and 14 assists. That’s better than anyone else on my d Line had by far, and 4t on my team on defense (not including special teams players). I’m okay with it I think. I suspect people ran at Rogers to keep him from disrupting the pass lane.

Week 1 – We sign 3 players. I up C Barrett’s deal to compete against 4 other teams.

Week 2 – We sign 3 more folks. I massage some offers.

Week 3 – DE Burton is heading to Pittsburgh. We sign 4 players and bring in our whole class

Any other roster needs?

I need another CB. I offer Al Royer 42/42 7th year vet a 4.42 mill, 2 year deal.

Week 4 – Royer heads to Jacksonville.

Is it camp time yet?

It is!

I begin to trim some fat:

QB Jaylen Millar
C Bradley Porter
LT Frederick McWilliams

We go 3-1 in the preaseason.

Afterwards:

CB Hutchings is now 39/39
QB Lyons to 21/21
WR Scarbrough 36/36

Of last year’s rookie class:

FL McHugh is now 64/67
K Harris Parrish is 72/79
DT Cooper Zimmerman is 67/70
RT Hector Johnson is 35/53

In other news:

DT Zachery Stevenson grew to 58/58
RB Romine is 62/62 and didn’t bust badly as we feared
OG Blades fell a bit to 61/61
CB Cary Greene actually rose to 62/62
C Leggin I think dropped a tad to 58/58
TE Gasho is now 61/61 and continues to creep up just a bit here and there

Among our rookies:

DE Andres Aikman

At 35/69 here is the good and the bad. The good is that he didn’t bust at all in camp or pre-season, which is great news. The bad is that he didn’t grow, despite starting in preseason and camp, which could foretell a hidden 35/35 guy underneath, kind of like OT Brant Matthews and others have done. I need to see results.

I cut WLB Jacob Cyrus and DT Ryan Lang

I move CB Monty Glenn to start for us. Hutchings is moved to nickelback

I extend CB Greene by two years.

I am in an unusual situation. My 4th RB is better than my FB, and my 3rd TE is better than him too.

In case I need him I deactivate my only FB. We’ll run Borden out of the FB spot.

Changes to our roster:

RB Percy Romine, 63/63 is starting for us as our major FA signing.
OT Hector Johnson will replace Brant Matthews, and was our 2nd rounder last year, currently 36/53
DE Andres Aikman – Rookie DE
WLB Jared Gati -After 6 years of being a backup, moving him to a starting role
CB Monty Glenn – Starting as Hutchings continues to age too much. Probably temporary – 46/46

Roster Strengths:

THE best QB in NFL
4th best RB
The worst FB
6th best TE
THE best WR
8th best C
3rd best OG
6th best OT

We are the top rated offense heading into the NFL this year.

10th best P
3rd best K

3rd best DE
4th best DT
11th best ILB
4th best OLB
5th best CB
THE best S

We are the top rated defense in the NFL as well.

Other than the obvious (FB) everything on offense is 6th or above, and C is 8th. On Defensive side of the ball, other than MLB (And to be fair, we are being compared to 3-4 teams that have two players there), We are 5th or better at every spot.

Plus we have real K and P on our squad too.

I’ll show you some stuff:

The best player on our team is 86/86 DE Jordan Rogers. I’m going to show you to the top non-kickers in the league at any position:

As you can see, two players are at 92 – an OG and CB. After them, just 12 other players are ranked at least 80, and of them, 6 are at 80. DE Rogers is the 4th best player in the league at any position. Guy’s a stud. You can also see QB Damien Hoffman, at 84/84, is not only the 8th best player in the league, but the best QB as well. Only 4 QBs are on the list at all.

I’m going to slide over to WR. Poffenroth is 68/68 and the 3rd best WR in the league. McHugh ids 64/67 and will be top ten once he finishes up.

Here’s the top five Ots in the league:

80/80 McKnight
71/71 – Sergio Keith, Jaguars
70/70 Westbrook
68/90 – Wilson
65/65 Poston

So Keith is really something. He’s the 2nd best OT and the third best potential in the league right now.

Cooper Zimmerman, a 67/70 DT is currently 10th best, and will be 8th if he gets to 70. By the way., at 58/58, Zachery Stevenson is 14th best DT, since there’s a talent fall off after 70.

At 68/68 Van Ellwood is the 6th best OLB in the NFL. Cary Greene is the 5th best CB, Quentin Bernardini still the best FS and 3rd best S overall.

Just for fun I sim the full season just to see what the AI would do. We go 12-4, make it to the Super Bowl, and then lose. That’s what the PC does. Can we better that?

Let’s go!

Week 1 – We open with Indianapolis and drop them 49-24. NFL Defensive Player of the Week is CB Cary Greene with 2 picks, and one brought back for a score. Hoffman is Game MVp with 25 of 42 for 330 and 4:1 hitting McHugh 9 times for 144 yards and 3 scores and Poffenroth the other. Percy Romine was 15 for 117 and 1 score. Romine also recovered a fumble by Hoffman and ran 33 yards for a score! That’s when you know its your day. 1 sack by Rogers, 4 KRB by Rasnic, 3 by OT Sergio Keith.

No major injuries.

Week 2 – Next up is the Rams whom we beat 31-8. Hoffman had 31 of 42 for 250 and 2:0 and McHugh and Poffenroth caught scores. Romine rushes 18 for 106 and a score. MLB Sweat picks and returns 30 yards for a score and CB Monty Glenn gets another interception. SS McKnight forces a fumble that CB Greene recovers. 1.5 sacks by Rogers, 1 by MLB Sweat and OLB Ellwood and 5 KRb and 1 pancakes by OG Lamar Rasnic.

No major injury news other than TE Winston Blades being questionable for a week.

Week 3 – We hang 55 on the Steelers to defeat them 55-21. QB Damien Hoffman is NFL Offensive Player of the Week with 29 of 41 for 410 yards and 5:0 ratio. McHugh was 191 yards and 2 scores, Poffenroth, RB Romine and RB Derrick Borden catch the other TD tosses. Meanwhile Romine is 16 for 104 and 2 scores on the ground. Picks by Hutchings and Greene. 1 sack by OLB Nicholas Kates. 4 KRB by OT Hector Johnson, 3 by C Leggin.

In injury news:

Backup RB Micah Falvey is out for two weeks with a foot ligament things.

Hutchings and RB Conley are probable.

Week 4 – We head to the Jets. And we win 30-10. Hoffman is MVP with 29 of 40 for 308 and 3:2. He hits McHugh for 138 and 1 score, TE Gasho for another, and WR Stanley Poole for the 3rd. Romine is held to 74 yards on 18 carries. Picks by Bernardini, CB Glenn, and OLB Ellwood. 2 sacks by rookie DE Aikman. 4 KRB by C Leggin and 3 for Keith.

No major injury news.

At 4-0, we are the only undefeated team in the AFC, both Detroit and Minnesota haven’t lost in the NFC.

Week 10 – We host the Patriots and win 44-28. Hoffman was Game MVP with 28 of 42 for 375 and 4:1. And hit McHugh for 6 and 11 and 2 scores and Poffenroth for two scores. RB Romaine was 16 fo 95 and 1 score as well. SS McKnight had 2 picks, OLB Ellwood 1. MLB Sweat forced and recovered a fumble. Sacks by Rogers and Zimmerman. 4 KRB by OT Keith and 3 by OG Blades.

Rookie DE Aikman is out for 7 weeks with a broken clavicle. I bench him for DE Osborne.

Week 11 – We head to Houston. We win 38-33. Hoffman is MVP with 20 of 26 for 274 and 4:1. McHugh ctaches 2, and Poole and Poffenroth 1 each. Poole also has an 89 yard kickoff ret TD. 2 sacks by DE Rogers, 1.d by sub DE Osborne. 3 KRB by Blades.

Minor injuries to a few folks – nothing major.

Week 12 – We head to 6-4 Arizona and….lose….28-31. They get a pass with less than a minute left to fall into the endzone to eclipse us and win the game. Romine was 15 for 85 and 2 scores, and both Hoffman and RB Borden had rushing scores too. Hoffman was 27 of 40 for 373 and 0:1. McHugh was 175 yards. 1 sack by Rogers, no picks or forced fumbles, 5 KRB by C Leggin, and 3 by Blades and OT Johnson.

Week 13 – Next up is Denver. We beat them 34-18. Hoffman has 22 of 31 for 221 and 1:0, with WR Poole grabbed that score. Meanwhile RB Romaine had 3 rushing scores. Picks by CB Greene and Hutchings. 1,5 sacks by Rogers. 4 KRB by OT Keith, and 3 each by Leggin and Blades.

We are 10-2 at the close of th e3rd quarter. We lead the conference by two wins.

After the game, we have a bunch of minor injuries, including Hoffman. Won’t slow us down; the Jaggernaut will roll!

Week 14 – We head to Seattle. We win 40-16. K Harris Parrish is Game MVP with 4/4 and 4/4 on PAT too. Hoffman has 23 for 31 abd 230 and 0:1. Romine rushes for 2 scores. MLB Devan Comer, while subbing in, gets a pick and returns it 91 yards for a score. 1 sack by Rogers. 4 KRB by Leggin.

TE Blades broke is clavicle and on;t be ready for the rest of the year. I place him on IR. I sign 30/30 TE Cooper Donovan and place him on the inactive roster for a while.

Week 15 – We host the Titans. We win 31-0 despite very little, umm, game by anyone. Just one sack, no picks, no forced fumbles, no 100 yard rushing game by Romine (15 for 9-0 and 2 scores), not a great passing day for Hoffman (2:2 ratio, no receiver had more than 66 yards), no returns for scores, and just one good blocking day – OT Keith was 5 KRB and 1 pancake. We don’t even have a ton of tackles – OLB Ellwood leads the team with 4 solos and 1 assist. We’ve had better stats than today in losses.

Week 16 – We host the 4 win 49ers. And we have to fight to win 31-24. Hoffman is 28 of 41 for 305 and 3:1 and McHugh has 185 yards and 2 scores and TE Gasho the 3rd. Romine adds a rushing score. No picks, SLB Ellwood has a forced fumble that Bernardini recovers. 1 sack by Rogers.

WLB Jared Gati is questionable with a torn thumb ligament for a while.

Week 17 – The Texans come to town. We win 31-10. QB Hoffman is NFL Off Player of the Week with 26 for 32, 333 and 4:0. TD catches by Poffenroth (105 yards), McHugh, Poole and Poole. Pick by MLB Sweat. Many forced fumbles, include DE Rogers and DT Zimmerman. 1.5 sacks by the Coop, 2 by Rogers, 1 by DT Roman Duncan and DE Osborne.

DE aikman is healed heading into the postseason, and we finish 14-2.

The 3033 NFL Playoffs

AFC

14-2 Jacksonville Jaguars
12-4 Baltimore Ravens
10-6 San Diego Chargers
9-7 New England Patriots
11-5 Indianapolis Colts
9-7 Houston Texans

AFC South is back baby!

Now, in the NFC we have a thing.

One team has gone undefeated. Some people are calling them the worst 16-0 team ever. But if any franchise in history deserves this, its them. Who is it? Well, who had the 0-16 season? The Lions, right.

The 3033 Detroit Lions are 16-0 thus far.

The Colts win 35-28 over the Patriots
The Chargers win 36-31 over the Texans

Meanwhile in the NFC, the Cowboys lose in Arizona against the 7-9 Cardinals 13-34. And the 8-8 Redskins lose to the 11-5 Eagles 17-12. This gives the Lions an easy game next week against the Cards.

Week 2 – Division Time

We host the Indianapolis Colts
Baltimore hosts the Chargers
Detroit hosts a team with, and I’m NOT MAKING THIS UP, NINE FEWER WINS than they did (16-0 vs 7-9). That’s just funny.
Falcons host Eagles

We win 45-6

Hoffman is 15 of 19 for 238 and 4:1, and McHugh, Poffnroth, Scarbrough, Scarbrough, and TE Gasho catch score.s See, QB Matt Lyons went in after Hoffman was injured and tossed a 5th TD on the day. Sack by MLB Sweat.

Meanwhile:

Detroit wins 41-23 over the Cardinals
The Eagles win 27-14 taking down the only major threat in the NFC a 14-2 team, and the Chargers win in Baltimore 24-23

This has lined up nicely for Detroit. They’d much rather face the 11-5 Eagles who didn’t have a bye in the playoffs and are tired than the fresh 14-2 Falcons.

We jhave a few injuries:

WR Stanley Poole is doubtful
DT Stevenson is doubtful
MLB Sweat is questionable
WLB Gati remains questionable

I bench Poole for TE Cooper Donovan, and WR Blades will slide into his space.

Detroit wins 16-13 and that sets up:

The 3033 NFL Super Bowl

Your AFC Champion #1 Seed 14-2 Jacksonville Jaguars

Vs

Your NFC Champion #1 Seed 16-0 Detroit Lions

Who will win? We are favored by 2.

Just two years ago we went 19-0. Denver went 19-0 in Peyton Manning’s final season.

Detroit’s QB is 5 th year vet, 6th year pick 48/48 Brandon Millar. Despite the age of passing offenses, he just had a 3247 yard season, with a 19:11 ratio, and 62.4% and 86.3 rating despite going 16-0. Other than the record, that’s not compelling stuff. It’s like David Garrard going 16-0.

Where the Lions shine is rookie and stud 80/80 Aaron Schofield, With his 2093 rushing yards I his first year in the league. That’s why the Lions are here. They took him at the 1.2 spot, after some really bad years.

Lions:

2032 – 3-13
2031 – 5-11
2030 – 3-13
2029 – 5-11
2028 – 3-13
2027 – 8-8
2026 – 7-9
2025 – 6-9-1
2024 – 9-7 – Wild Card

2024 is the last winning season and playoff appearance for the Lions.

Before this year, the Lions had won the NFC North just once since 2014. They had 4 playoff appearance, including an 8-8 wild card once. Their worse season was 1-15 in 2017.

And now they struck draft gold and took it as far as they could. So Kudos to the Lions!

But we will beat them!

Here we go……

We score 30!

They score 36.

Ah….

Hoffman was Game MVP with 30 of 43 and 382 and 3:0. TE Gasho, WR Poffenroth (101 yards) and RB Romaine caught scores. Romine was also 19 for 98. CB Greene with a Super Bowl pick. Sacks by SS McKnight, DE Rogers, and WLB Gati. 3 passes defensed by FS Bernardini. 3 KRB by OT Hector Johnson. 5 special teams tackles by WLB Gati.

They still Aaron Schofielded us with 23 carries, 150 yards and 2 scores. They also got a safety and a 94 yard kickoff return for a score, without which we win,

Congrats Lions!

Stats:

QB Damien Hoffman – 440 from 615, 71.5%, for 5238 yards, 43:14, 111.0 rating, 22 sacks, 8 knockdowns, 5 fumbles; 1 rush TD

Led the league in lots of things – rating, yard,s pass TD, % completed

RB Percy Romine, 270 for 1331 yards, 4.93 ypc, 21 rushing TD; 59 grabs, 475 yards, 3 scores

That’s a strong stat line for my new starter. 4th in rush yards, the most rush scores by a bunch.

WR Adrian McHugh, 118 grabs 1776 yards, 19 scores – 2nd most in yards, and most in scores
WR Max Poffenroth, 82 for 1188, 9 scores
WR Stanley Poole, 53 snags, 612 yards, 6 scores
TE Tony Gasho, 50 for 516 and 4

Up until the last game, McHugh was 4 yards behind the league leader, and could have wound up best. It felt like Poffenroth really fought for those yards. Like it wasn’t easy anymore.

Special Teams

WR Kim Riley, 52 PR, 1 PR RET TD< 9.9 avg; 31 KR, 23.7 AVG

WR Stanley Poole, 9 KR, 1 KR RET TD, 30 avg

Riley and Poole both struck with scores. Thanks!

K Harris Parrish, 29 of 35, 55 long, 73/73 PAT

P Shawn Oakes – 66 punts, 46.4 avg, 26 in 20

Again, perfectly fine years from my kickers.

Defense:

DE Jordan Rogers, 51 solo, 19 assists, 16 sacks, 9 blocked passes (led league), 32 hurries, 36 QB KD
DT Cooper Zimmerman, 35 and 13 tack; 4 sacks, 4 blocks, 10 hurrie,s 4 QB KD
DT Zachery Stevenson, 0.5 sacks, 2 blocks, 5 hurries, 9 QBKD
DE Andres Aikman, 9 games, 4 sacks, 8 hurries,

Rogers led the league in passes batted down, QB knockdowns, and was 3rd in sacks. And DT was fine, but not where I want it to be.

SLB Van Ellwood 63 and 20 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1 block, 3 hurr, 4 QBKD, 2 INT, 2 pasdef
MLB Eduardo Sweat, 72 and 30 tack, 1.5 sacks, 4 hurr, 4 QBKD, 2 INT, 1 INT RET T, 7 pasdef
WLB Jared Gati, 1 sack, 1 hurrie, 3 QBKD, 2 pasdef

Ellwood is looking pretty sexy.

SS Malachi McKnight – 86 and 31 tack, 1 blocked pass, 2 picks, 5 pasdef
FS Quentin Bernardini, 62 and 25 tack; 1 hurr, 2 pick, 19 pasdef
CB Cary Greene, 5 picks, 1 INT RET TD< 22 passes defensed
CB Allen Hutchings, 4 picks, 8 pasdef
CB Monty Glenn, 2 picks, 14 pasdef

Despite getting demoted that was a pretty saucy year for Hutchings! And Glenn got a large number of passes broken up, so you can’t look askance at him. By the way, Greene led the league with his 22 pasdef. There were 4 other players at 20 and 21, and then Bernardini’s 19 was 5th highest player in the league, and then the next was an ILB with 16.

Blocking:

OC Myron Leggin, 35 KRB, 1 pancake, 2 sacks allowed
OG Lamar Rasnic, 31 KRB and 8 pancakes and 1 sack
OT Sergio Keith, 31 KRB, 3 pancakes, 6 sacks
OG David Blades, 30 KRB, 4 sacks
OT Hector Johnson, 22 KRB and 8 sacks allowed
TE Tony Gasho, 8 KRB

Not a bad year for these folks with 4 at 30+ KRB. Good solid blocking.

Offensive Player of the Year: QB Damien Hoffman – Welcome back to the best QB in football ratings after a couple of years of injuries and weaker play!
Defensive Player of the Year: Rogers led the league in two stats and was third in another. Can’t argue with that. At this rate, barring injury or something, Rogers is likely to be Canton bound. Let’s take a look – Rogers, in four years, has been All League 3 times, and has collected 55.5 sacks. That’s around the same production level as JJ Watt.

Special Teams Player of the Year: WR Kim Riley – He had a solid returning year, as well as a PR score to notch it. Let’s keep it going Riley!

Rookie of the Year: WR Stanley Poole – As a undrafted FA, you got more than 600 receiving yards, 6 catching TD, a kick returned for a score, and a solid amount of quality on the field. That’s not a bad year at all!

Heart Award: DE Alfredo Osborne – Not a great player, Osborne was forced into the lineup way too early and managed to avoid embarrassing himself when our star DE went down. Good job providing the coverage Osborne!

Alright.

These are my players with at least 10 years of experience in order:

13 WR Clyde Scarbrough

12 QB Matt lyons
C Myron Leggin
LS Rex Cole

10 CB Allen Hutchings

Review:

Performance – 86
Value – 100
Profit – 100
Roster 22

Score – 90

We have 3 retirements:

CB Allen Hutchings, WR Scarbrough and CB Al Royer.

Another womb to tomb player for us, Hutchings was a 5th round selection from Mississippi State that got 1 All Pro mention, won 2 Rings, and had 42 picks and 82 passes defensed. Thanks Allen.

We have a new member in the hall of fame, and he lead all new members in voting with 98% of the vote:

OG Marquis Satre is in.

YAY!

QB Teddy Bridgewater is also in.

In other news:

QB Rodney Drietz, the pride of WVU, with a Bowl, Legend of the Game on retirement, All League once, 62398 passing yards, 389 TD, and career 86.4 rating. (That would put him 6th on the career TD list above Tarkenton in real life, and 3rd in passing yards just past Marino)

TE Brett Kovacs – A guy we drafted in the 2nd round, because a starter for us for 6 years, 1 bowl win,

WR Cornell Franklin, 6 time All Pro, fastest man in 2024,

C Blaine Victor – 4 time all pro for Buffalo

C Brady Stevenson – 5 time all pro for Tampa, retires with 467 KRB and 100 pancakes and 77 sacks allowed – Expect to see him be a potential for Canton

LG Ramon Hitchcock – 4 time all pro, 1 Super Bowl Ring -0 429 KRB, 95 pancakes, 61 sacks allowed

LT Myron Starks – 5 time all pro, 3 Rings, drafted by us and part of the Satre/Starks/Leggin triumvirate at O Line.

DE Tim Shaw, 3 time all pro for Bills, 117 sacks,

CB Herb McCarthy, Defensive Rookie of the year in 2024, All Pro once, finishes with 47 picks
