Wow, either I am the second coming of Billy Bean and Staten Island will be this years version of the Royals, or I am Matt Millen in flannel and we will be every season prior to this season of the Royals.

4/1 Stamford @ Staten Island Staten Island takes a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the 5th but then Boog Powell took over for Stamford as he hits two homeruns to knock in 5 runs as Stamford goes on to win 8-5. Lefty Williams goes 7 innings, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits while striking out 8, though he did walk 5, and earned the win. Bill Dineen gets the loss as he allows 7 runs in 6.1 innings. Chicago @ Takoma Park Chicago jumps out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st thanks to RBI singles by Will Clark and Jim Delahanty. In the top of the 3rd a blank by Steve Carlton brings home Chicago's 3rd run as they lead 3-0 and Carlton is struggling. Takoma Park finally breaks through against Cy Young in the bottom of the 6th as Edgar Martinez gets a two out single and Babe Ruth follows with a 454 foot homerun to right to get them on the board at 3-2 as Carlton has settled down and we have a game. In the bottom of the 7th Roy Campanella leads off with a solo homerun to tie the game 3-3. Kent Tekulve comes in to pitch the top of the 8th and the first two men reach for runners at 1st and 3rd with no outs. He then comes up big as he strikes out Bench, Delahanty and Robinson to get out of trouble. In the bottom of the 8th Cy Young gets in trouble and Tug McGraw come in with runners at 2nd and 3rd and only one out. He gets a ground out with the infield in and strikes out Bobby Grich to end the inning. Neither team threatens in the 9th and the game goes to extra innings. With 2 outs in the top of the 11th and Brooks Robinson at 3rd Phil Garner singles to center to give Chicago a 4-3 lead. Rob Murphy comes in to pitch the bottom of the 11th. Roy Campanella leads off with a double. Murphy gets Tommie Agee to pop out to short on the first pitch for the first out of the inning. Earl Williams rips a line drive down the third base line but Brooks Robinson makes a diving catch and quickly fires to second to double up Campanella who had strayed too far off second for a game ending double play. Duane Ward gets the win. Steve Carlton struck out 14 batters in 7 innings for Takoma Park. Cy Young struck out 10 in 7.1 innings for Chicago. Dayton @ Wichita Dayton thumps Wichita as they knock Johnson out in the 4th inning and Wichita goes through 7 pitchers in a 13-3 defeat. Seaver goes the distance in the victory, allowing 9 hits while striking out 8. Lonnie Smith and Joe Morgan each get three hits for Dayton. Hank Aaron and Wes Westrum each go yard for Dayton. George Brett is the only highlight of the game for Wichita as he was 4 for 4 with a homerun. Kalamazoo @ Yuma In the top of the 2nd Buck Freeman hits a solo homerun with one out to give Kalamazoo a 1-0 lead. Yuma loads the basses with one out in the bottom of the 2nd but Nolan Ryan strikes out Mordecai Brown and gets Jackie Robinson to ground out to end the threat. In the top of the 3rd Kalamazoo loads the bases with no outs. Mordecai Brown strikes out Willie Aikens and Buck Freeman and gets Dave Concepcion to fly out to center to end the inning and keep the game 1-0. In the bottom of the 3rd Yuma gets on the board with an RBI double by Gary Carter and then Tim Foli adds to the total with an RBI single to give them a 2-1 lead. The game stays 2-1 until the top of the 7th when Mickey Tettleton hits a two out double to knock in two runs and give Kalamazoo a 3-2 lead. The game stays 3-2 going to the bottom of the 9th as Byung-Hyun Kim comes in for Kalamazoo to close out the game. He hits Pete Rose with his first pitch to put the tying run on. He walks Darrell Evans on a 3-1 pitch to put runners at 1st ad 2nd with no outs. Mickey Hatcher singles but the runners advance just one base to load the bases as Kim has yet to retire a batter. Kim them walks Jackie Robinson on a 3-1 pitch to walk in the tying run 3-3. Kim's nightmare outing ends as he walks Way Schalk to bring in the winning run as Yuma wins 4-3 on a walk off walk. Tug McGraw gets the win for Yuma as he pitches a scoreless top of the 9th. 4/2 Stamford @ Staten Island Staten Island gives their fans a game to cheer about as the roll to a 9-3 victory. Jim Palmer struggled for Staten Island and didn't get the win as Michael Jackson comes in for relief and is given the win. Sam Crawford and Bill Madlock each had three hits for Staten Island with Madlock homering in the 8th. Staten Island pounds out 15 hits in the victory. Chicago @ Takoma Park In the bottom of the 3rd Takoma Park takes a 1-0 lead on a Roy Campanella RBI single. They add to the lead in the bottom of the 5th as Andre Dawson scores on a sacrifice fly by Tommie Agee as they lead 2-0. In the top of the 7th Chicago ties the game on an RBI double by Jim Delahanty and an RBI ground out by Don Mueller as the game is level at 2-2. Kent Tekulve comes in to pitch the top of the 9th for Takoma Park. Jim Delahanty singles after fouling off several pitches in a 10 pitch at bat to lead off the inning. After a fly out Pee Wee Reese doubles but Delahanty is held at 3rd. Runners are at 2nd and 3rd with one out. Phil Garner pops up to first for the second out. Tony Gwynn doubles to the gap in left on the first pitch, scoring both runners to give Chicago a 4-2 lead. Tekulve is chased as Rick Lysander comes in and gets Brooks Robinson to ground out to short to end the inning. Chicago leads 4-2 going into the bottom of the 9th. Duane Ward comes in for Chicago. He gets Edgar Martinez to ground out to second to start the inning and then strikes out Babe Ruth and Andre Dawson to end the game. Chicago wins 4-2. Bob Shawkey gets the win for Chicago with Tekulve getting the loss for Takoma Park. Tony Gwynn has three hits for Chicago, including the game winner. Dayton @ Wichita Sal Maglie throws a gem for Wichita, a 1 hit shutout (with 2 walks and 13 strikeouts). Tim Raines gets the only hit for Dayton, a one out double in the 6th. Ozzie Smith surprises everyone with a 3 run homerun for Wichita and George Brett added a solo shot. Wichita wins 4-0. Bruce Kison gets the loss for Dayton as he goes 7 innings and allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits with no walks. Kalamazoo @ Yuma In the top of the 2nd Kalamazoo gets on the board on a 3 run homerun by Willie Aikens, after the first two batters of the inning were walked. Yuma gets one run back in the bottom of the 2nd on a leadoff solo homerun by Luis Gonzales. After two innings Kalamazoo leads 3-1. In the bottom of the 7th Mickey Hatcher hits a two out double to score Gary Carter and Yuma gets back to 3-2. In the bottom of the 8th Luis Gonzalez goes deep again (just over the fence in right) to tie the game 3-3. In the bottom of the 9th Juan Gonzalez singles home Pete Rose with two outs for a 4-3 victory. Byung-Hyun Kim gets another loss for Kalamazoo. Bill Swift gets the win in relief for Yuma. Kalamazoo manages only 2 hits all game, Nolan Ryan allowed only the homerun to Aikens and Swift allowed just one hit in his 2 innings of relief. Ryan did, however, walk 7. Luis Gonzalez had the only multiple hit game with the two homeruns. 4/3 Dayton @ Wichita In the top of the 3rd Danny Jackson singles home Tony Fernandez to give Dayton a 1-0 lead. Wichita takes a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 3rd on back to back RBI singles by Ken Griffey Jr. and Kent Hrbek. In the bottom of the 4th Ozzie Smith singles home Alan Ashby who led off the inning with a double as Wichita leads 3-1. In the top of the 7th West Westrum doubles home Jack Clark to make it 3-2 and Kevin McReynolds follows with a sacrifice fly to score Tony Fernandez as the game is tied 3-3. Joe Morgan leads off the top of the 9th with a solo homerun to give Dayton a 4-3 lead. Rich Gossage comes in to pitch the top of the 9th. After walking Tony Fernandez he gets Chick Stahl and Art Howe to pop out on the first pitch. Tim Raines walks to put runners at 1st and 2nd with two outs. An 0-1 wild pitch moves the runners up to 2nd and 3rd. HE settles down and gets Joe Morgan to ground out to end the inning. Calvin Jones comes in to pitch the bottom of the 9th. After getting one out, Ozzie Smith singles. Bob Meusel walks and George Brett singles but runners are held to one base. The bases are loaded with just one out. Joe bleeping Carter pops out to first for the second out. Ken Griffey Jr. strikes out on three pitches to end the game. Grover Lowdermilk gets the win for Dayton in relief. Dave McNally gets the loss for Wichita. Jack Clark gets three hits for Dayton. Kalamazoo @ Yuma In the bottom of the 1st Jackie Robinson leads off with a double, moves to 3rd on a ground out and then scores on a ground out to give Yuma a 1-0 lead. In the top of the 5th Willie Aikens doubles home a run to tie the game 1-1. In the bottom of the 5th Yuma has the bases loaded with one out but Willie McGee grounds into a double play to end the inning. In the bottom of the 7th Juan Gonzalez singles home Jerry Koosman to give Yuma a 2-1 lead. Tug McGraw comes in for the top of the 9th looking for a save for Yuma. He strikes out Johnny Evers and Bobby Thomson to start the inning. Merv Rettenmund singles to put the tying run at 1st. A wild pitch moves the tying run to 2nd. After fouling off several pitches Mickey Tettleton pops out to first to end the game. Jerry Koosman gets the win as he goes 8 innings, allowing only 2 hits and 1 run with 2 walks and 12 strikeouts. Jackie Robinson goes 4 for 4 for Yuma and was only a homerun shy of the cycle. Chicago @ Takoma Park In the top of the 3rd Chicago scores 4 runs on 3 hits, 2 walks and an error. to take a 4-0 lead. Babe Ruth hits a solo homerun in the bottom of the 4th to make it 4-1. In the bottom of the 5th Babe Ruth singles home a run to make it 4-2. Andre Dawson hits a solo homerun in the bottom of the 8th to narrow the gap to 4-3. Tug McGraw comes in to pitch the bottom of the 9th to go for the save. Frank Chance opens the inning with a double. Edgar Martinez grounds out for the first out and Chance moves to 3rd with one out. Babe Ruth has a chance to be a hero but McGraw strikes him out swinging on a 1-2 pitch for the second out. George Foster strikes out on a 3-2 pitch to end the game. Dickey Kerr gets the win for Chicago with Larry Jansen getting the loss for Takoma Park. Stamford @ Staten Island Staten Island wins a 6-2 game behind Shoeless Joe Jackson's 3 hit night and solid pitching from Oval Overall and two relievers who scattered 12 hits but never allowed Stamford to string hits together. 4/4 Yuma @ Dayton Early season series between the two teams at the top of the Red Division. Their first game is not one for fans of pitching. Yuma gets on the board in the top of the 1st as Jackie Robinson scores on a Juan Gonzalez ground out after he led off with a double and moved to third on a ground out. Dayton takes a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the 2nd thanks to RBI singles by Tony Fernandez, Herb Pennock and Tim Raines. In the top of the 3rd Luis Gonzolaez brings home a run with a sacrifice fly to cut the gap to 3-2. In the bottom of the 3rd Al Rosen triples home Hank Aaron to extend Dayton's lead to 4-2, Rosen would score on a Chick Stahl ground out to make it 5-2. In the bottom of the 5th Al Rosen would bring home Hank Aaron with a ground out to make it 6-2. In the top of the 7th Yuma would send 12 men to the plate and score 7 runs to take a 9-6 lead. In the bottom of the 7th Joe Morgan and Hank Aaron would hit back to back solo homeruns to cut Yuma's lead to 9-8. An RBI single by Juan Gonzalez in the top of the 8th would score Jackie Robinson and give Yuma a 10-8 lead. Calvin Jones would get the win in relief. Jackie Robinson had 3 hits for Yuma with 2 walks and scored 3 runs. Hank Aaron had 3 hits for Dayton with 1 walk, 4 runs scored and 1 RBI. Staten Island loads the bases with 2 outs in the top of the 6th and Mike Lum drives the first pitch over the right field fence for a pinch hit grand slam to give Staten Island a 7-6 lead. Joe Sambito comes in for the bottom of the 9th to go for he save. After getting Ken Griffey Jr. to fly out George Brett singles to put the tying run on base. Delos Drake pinch runs for Brett. Joe Carter singles on a 1-0 pitch putting runners at 1st and 2nd with one out. Kent Hrbeck flies out to left for the second out. Ivan Rodriguez doubles to right scoring Drake but Carter is held at third as he ties the game 7-7. Ken Boswell singles on a 2-1 pitch to win the game 8-7 for Wichita. Carlton allowed 3 hits and struck out 12. Ryan allowed 4 hits and struck out 10 while walking 4. The game went to the 10th scoreless. In the top of the 10th Andre Dawson hits a solo homerun to give Takoma Park a 1-0 lead. Pete Richert allows a single in the bottom of the 10th but nothing more as Takoma Park wins 1-0. Pete Richert gets the win with 2 scoreless innings in relief with Mark Eichhorn getting the loss in relief. Andre Dawson was the only player in the game with more than one hit, he had two but his last one was the important one. Jim Delahanty is intentionally walked to put runners at 1st and 2nd. Brooks Robinson grounds into a 6-4-3 double play as Bench moves to third with two outs. On a 2-2 pitch Pee Wee Reese singles to left to score Bench and give Chicago a 4-3 lead. Dave Smith comes in to get pinch hitter Phil Garner out. Rob Murphy comes in to pitch the bottom of the 9th. He retires the side in order as Chicago remains unbeaten with a 4-3 victory. Tug McGraw gets the win in relief. Yuma @ Dayton Dayton scores 3 in the bottom of the 1st on an RBI triple by Joe Morgan, and RBI double by Al Rosen and an RBI single by Tony Fernandez. In the top of the 4th Luis Gonzales hits a 2 run homerun to get Yuma on the board at 3-2. They load the lases later that half on the inning but Bruce Kison strikes out Mordecai Brown and Jackie Robinson to end the threat. In the bottom of the 5th Jack Clark scores on a Kevin McReynolds ground out to give Dayton a 4-2 lead. In the top of the 6th Yuma loads the bases with two outs and Dayton brings in Miguel Batista to try to get out of it. He gets John Olerud to ground out and end the inning. In the top of the 7th Gary Carter singles home Luis Gonzalez to make it 4-3. In the top of the 8th Luis Gonzalez singles home Cesar Cedeno but a baserunning mistake gets Juan Gonzaleez thrown out at third to end the inning with the game tied 4-4. Neither team can break the tie through nine and it goes extra innings. In the top of the 10th with Jeff Russell pitching Davy Jones leads off with a double. Ray Schalk flies out and Jackie Robinson is intentionally walked to put runners at 1st and 2nd with one out. Cesar Cedeno pops out to short for the second out. Kent Hrbek and Ivan Rodriguez hit back to back singles to put runners at 1st and 2nd with one out. Sambito gets Ken Boswell to ground into a double play to end the inning and send the game to extra innings. In the top of the 10th Sam Crawford singles home Dave Engle to give Staten Island a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the 10th Mark Huismann comes in to pitch. Alan Ashby is walked to start the inning. 4/10 Kalamazoo @ Staten Island Kalamazoo jumps out to a 6-1 lead and hangs on for a 6-4 victory. Don Newcombe earns the victory as he allows 3 runs in 7.0 innings on 7 hits. Ed Whitson gets the loss. Mickey Tettleton is 3 for 3 for Kalamazoo and was a triple shy of the cycle. Takoma Park @ Dayton Takoma Park surges to an 8-1 lead and survives a 4 run 7th by Dayton to hold on for the 8-5 victory. Bob Knepper improves to 2-0 as he lasts 6.1 innings and allows 3 runs on 9 hits. Preacher Roe drops his first loss of the season and allows 6 runs in 3.2 innings on 6 hits with 4 walks. Babe Ruth is 3 for 4 for Takoma Park with a homerun, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI's. Tim Raines is 4 for 5 for Dayton with 2 runs scored. Stamford @ Wichita Wichita scores in the bottom of the 1st as Ken Griffey Jr. doubles home Bob Meusel to make it 1-0. Stamford scores three in the top of the 4th as they string together hits and Lefty Williams, Ty Cobb and Cleon Jones each have RBI singles to give Stamford a 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the 4th Kent Hrbek doubles home two runs and then scored on a sacrifice fly two batters later to give Wichita a 4-3 lead. In the top of the 5th Boog Powell doubles home Mike Schmidt to tie the game 4-4. Rich Gossage comes in to pitch the top of the 9th. Cleon Jones leads off with a solo homerun to left to give Stamford a 5-4 lead. Dave Smith comes out to pitch the bottom of the 9th and retires the side in order. Gary Neobauer gets the win in relief and Rich Gossage gets the loss. For Stamford Cleon Jones if 3 for 5 and was only a triple shy of the cycle. Ken Griffey Jr. is the only player on Wichita with more than one hit as he has a pair of hits. Chicago @ Yuma Chicago scores first in the top of the first. Will Clark triples home two runs to make it 2-0. He later scores on a sacrifice fly by Johnny Bench to make it 3-0. Mike Cuellar settles down after the first. In the bottom of the 4th Yuma gets a run back as John Olerud scores on a ground out by Willie McGee to get on the board at 3-1. In the bottom of the 7th Gary Carter scores on a ground out to get to within 3-2 and then Mickey Hatcher singles home Pete Rose to tie the game 3-3. The game goes to extra innings even at 3-3. Steve Farr comes in to pitch the top of the 11th and promptly walks the bases loaded. Will Clark strikes out for the first out. Ralph Garr doubles home Phil Garner and Tony Gwynn to take a 5-3 lead. Johnny Bench is intentionally walked to load the bases. Jim Delahanty grounds to short but beats out the relay throw to prevent the double play as Willie Wilson scores to make it 6-3. Urban Shocker comes in to replace Farr. Brooks Robinson singles home Ralph Garr. Pee Wee Reese then singles home Jim Delahanty. Chicago scores 5 to take an 8-3 lead in the top of the 11th. Rob Murphy comes in to pitch the bottom of the 11th. Willie McGee singles to lead off the inning. Murphy then gets Gary Carter to pop out and Pete Rose to ground into a double play to end the game. Duane Ward earns the win in relief. Steve Farr is saddled with the loss in relief. Tony Gwynn and Brooks Robinson each collect 4 hits for Chicago. 4/11 Kalamazoo @ Staten Island Staten Island takes a 10-0 lead on their way to an 11-6 victory. Bill Dinneen allows 5 runs on 5 hits over 7.1 innings and gets the win. Nolan Ryan is chased after allowing 6 runs in 4.0 innings and gets the loss. Al Dark gets three hits for Staten Island in the victory. Takoma Park @ Dayton Bobby Grich singles home Tommie Agee in the top of the 3rd to take a 1-0 lead for Takoma Park. RBU singles by Hank Aaron and Jack Clark in the bottom of the 3rd gives Dayton a 2-1 lead. The game stays 2-1 going to the 9th. Calvin Jones comes in to pitch the top of the 9th. He retires the side in order as Dayton wins the pitcher's duel 2-1. Steve Carlton gets the loss though he allows just 2 runs in 6.2 innings and strikes out 13. Bruce Kison gets the win as he goes 6.0 innings and allows just 1 run. Joe Morgan is the only player in the game with more than one hit as he was 2 for 2 with 2 walks for Dayton. Stamford @ Wichita Stamford pounds out 10 runs in a 10-3 victory. Dave Dravecky gets the win allowing only 2 runs on 6 hits in 7.0 innings while walking 1 and striking out 7. Randy Johnson falls to 0-2 and allows 4 runs in 5.0 innings. Brian Downing goes 2 for 3 with a homerun for Stamford. Ozzie Smith is 3 for 5 for Wichita in a losing cause. Chicago @ Yuma Yuma scores 4 runs in the 4th inning and chases Cy Young after that inning to take a 4-0 lead. Chicago manages just single runs in the 5th and 9th as Yuma wins 4-2. Mordecai Brown allows just 1 run in 8.0 innings with 8 strikeouts for the win. Cy Young gets the loss with 4 runs in 4.0 innings. Juan Gonzalez accounted for 3 of the 4 runs in the 4th with a three run homerun. 4/12 Kalamazoo @ Staten Island Staten Island wins an easy one 7-3 behind a 4 RBI night by Carl Furillo and a complete game by Jim Palmer. Jim Palmer throws a complete game and allows 3 runs on 8 hits with 2 walks and 9 strikeouts for the win. John Tudor lasts just 4.1 innings and allows 6 runs on 5 hits with 6 walks and gets the loss. Takoma Park @ Dayton Curt Schilling dominates as Takoma Park gets just enough offense in a 3-0 victory. Schilling earns the win as he allows no runs on 5 hits in 8.0 innings with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. Pete Richert pitches a scoreless 9th for the save. Tom Seaver allows 3 runs in 7.0 innings with 3 walks and 10 strikeouts and gets the loss. Stamford @ Wichita Stamford pounds Wichita 11-2. Brian Downing knocks in 4 runs for Stamford and only 1 starter didn't have a hit. Jack Pfiester gets the win as he allows 2 runs in 8.0 innings and strikes out 11. Sal Maglie drops his first game of the season as he lasts just 3.2 innings and allows 5 runs. Chicago @ Yuma Chicago scores 4 runs in the top of the 8th in what was a pitcher's duel and they hang on for a 4-1 victory. Early Wynn gets the victory as he allows 0 runs in 7.0 innings on 5 hits and strikes out 9. Nolan Ryan gets the loss as he allows 2 runs in 7.0 innings (as he failed to retire the two batters he faced in the 8th) with 4 walks and 8 strikeouts. Luis Gonzalez had 3 of Yuma's 7 hits.

Man, up and down season so far, but a pretty dominant series for us there to go back to 3 games over .500.
