I admit I only started following the Blackhawks when old man Wirtz died but I cannot believe more people don't watch this sport.

Wicked series... waiting for Hoss to plug one in. He has had some puck possession this game. Sharpie finally gets a few to go in... great stuff!

Considering the markets, it will be interesting to see the numbers for viewers for the Finals.

It's going to be (relatively) massive but I had read earlier in the week speculation that the numbers would have been bigger for NYR-CHI.

Yeah. Totally guessing, but imagine while LA has a larger population, a much smaller % is actually interested, even for a championship level team.

Not to dismiss the Rangers, but can't help but feel the finals are going to be anticlimactic compared to the WCF.

Well, we had Devils/Kings a few years ago, how was that for ratings?

Would have been a bit tougher call if Toews and crew had pulled off the comeback, but with LA in the finals I've definitely gotta cheer for my former flame, the Rangers. I may have had to turn my back on them when the Jets re-entered my life, but I'll always remember my time with them fondly.

The ratings last night were 4.8 in LA and 22.7 in Chicago. Since LA is about 1/3 larger than Chicago, there were still many more people watching the game in Chicago then LA. With similar ratings for the Stanley Cups finals Chicago would move the national number significantly more.

Honestly I think time zones hold us back in LA far too much for ratings. I remember last time they were in the finals I was stuck in the office for every single game, usually until the third period started or longer. The games are scheduled to all start at 5pm which means it will happen again.

I was discussing this with my wife. The media people of the Habs were very involved during this playoffs run, really. They seeked the bet and worked it out with Fallon and they are following up on it. Good sports indeed.

In 1994, I was a senior in HS when Rangers won the Cup. Thought "wow, would've been amazing to actually BE there" as the Cup was lifted...but not like there was Stubhub (and not like I had the $ anyway). Attended the parade.

Twenty years later, am back in NY and again thinking "wow, it would be amazing to BE there". I go to a few games a year, but not a season ticket holder.

Stubhub has other ideas (price shown is LOWEST price for a ticket):
Game 3: $1045
Game 4: $1196
Game 6: $1700 (if game doesn't happen, all $ gets refunded)

Oddly, would possibly likely be cheaper to fly to LA and attend a game:
Game 1: $394
Game 2: $538
Game 5: $700
Game 7: $981

As far as life experiences, the potential to see my team win the Cup on home ice is way up there. As such, I think am only considering Game 6, but $1700 is...well...$1700.

I'm considering waiting, but if Rangers come home up 3-2, the $1700 would go up. It's nice to be in a city that cares about hockey (and has a large enough bandwagon and corporate types to drive up prices)...but sheesh.

I was listening to Boomer and Carton this morning. Carton was telling Boomer what comparable seats to his 4 in the lower level are going for on SH...total came to about $55,000. Unreal.

There's a lot of money in this city and a lot of demand. I know some people who have extras and they've been cleaning up, and I say "good for them" because I know they've eaten a lot of tickets over the dry years.

Wow after seeing those prices I didn't get off too bad in 2010. I paid $550 a piece for seats in the last row of the Wells Fargo Center for Game 4 of the 2010 SCF.

I bought them through the Flyers ticket exchange.

It's certainly a cyclical thing, and obviously a location/population thing.

2008 finals vs DET, I had games 3 & 6 of the finals. Sold game 3. I paid $85 a piece for 2 seats, sold for $400 each. Went to game 6.

2009 finals, vs DET, also games 3 & 6. Went to both games. But had game 6 listed for a few days. In my section were going for $700 each. I listed at $1000, figures if someone bites, I take the cash.

Fast forward to this year. Game 2 vs the Rangers, I had 4 seats, I paid $90 each, sold on ticket exchange for, after fees, $92.

The two guys reporting that - Rob Rossi and Mark Madden - might be the two least believable people in the Pittsburgh media.

That said...while I don't think he'd the best option, he's certainly not the worst option. My concern with Pierre would be the day-to-day operations. But the knowledge of junior/college players, and connections to those players through coaches etc, are clearly his strength.

Honestly not sure it will matter who it is. From the Shero firing press conference and aftermath, the new GM will report through David Morehouse, President and CEO. Former GMs reported directly to ownership.

Morehouse, allegedly, nixed a deal in place this time last year that was moving out Kris Letang because "he's too marketable to move". I get it's a business. But scares the hell out of me to think the guy who thinks of the business side is in charge of the guy who will be making hockey decisions.

Pierre might not even want the job under those constraints. Who would?
