You might get that chance. During my testing of the game, I did in fact get to bomb Wrigley Field.

You'd want to bomb Miller Field? You just dropped on my trust list.

Remember, folks, when you have your clue(s) answered, send the answer(s) to me via PM. I haven't received any answers, yet.

Got a few answers in now. Waiting for path12's response. He said he would be away but with internet access. He might be a little busy.

Suggestions of bombing Wrigley are a good way to get a 1 star rating for the thread

path12 has been inactive since leaving, so maybe he didn't have access where he was heading, after all. He said he would be back Thursday, so hopefully we can resume then.

Incidentally, there are clues that have been given out that I don't have answers for. When path12 returns, it would speed things up if you had answers for the clues given out already sent in.

Don't know where path12 has gotten off to. If he doesn't show up tonight, I am considering moving forward to mission #6 where we can just have him go last in the order.

OK I think we will try to move forward tomorrow with mission #6 and go back and finish up #5 when path12 comes back.

Here is the preview video for #6. Sorry for the macabre video

Mission #6 - Google Bomber - $60,000

Your job is to drop a bomb on a baseball field. You will be flying over
an unknown major city. You will have 10 movement points to use to
locate and drop a bomb on a baseball field anywhere in that city. Your
options for each move are N, S, E, W, Ascend, Descend, Target, and Drop
Bomb.

For instance if you find a baseball field by using the other commands,
which should be self-explanatory, you would then use the target command
to center your cross-hairs on the baseball field and drop your bomb.
You may not drop a bomb from a height higher than 3 or you will miss the
target automatically.

Here, we can see we have located a baseball field, but we don't have it
in our cross-hairs, yet.

We need to use the target command to aim. To use it, we use fractions.
Our center of vision will not change, only the position of the cross-hairs
will change. If we want to move the crosshairs towards the top halfway,
we would use:

"Target Up 1/2". This would result in this:

Almost aligned, but not quite. We would need to retarget slightly to the
right. Let's try:
"Target Right 1/10"

Aha, we are now aimed right at the baseball field. Now, we simply issue
the command:

"Drop Bomb"

And we see whether we hit it or not.

Yay! Another baseball field destroyed! Mwahahahaha. Everything is
proceeding as I have forseen it! Ahem. I mean good job team, you have
succeeded. A POW! means success. If you don't see a POW! over the
location of the old baseball field, you have failed the mission, since you
have only one bomb.

Each baseball field that is destroyed will add $10,000 to the group pot.
A baseball field must be unmistakable as a baseball field. In other words,
the four bases and outfield must be absolutely clear to see.

Turns will be taken on a first come, first served basis. If you are ready to play, just post in this thread saying so, and I will put you in your plane.

Once again, your possible moves for each turn will be:
N, S, E, W, Ascend, Descend, Target, and Drop Bomb.

Quick question: are we using Google Earth for this? Are we all going off the same image? Is there a scale on our maps? How do we know if the field is 1/10 to the left or 1/2 below our crosshairs? How do we judge the distances?

You didn't say we couldn't talk about the mission, so I'm going to assume we can. I've got a couple of questions. Are the "Ascend and Descend" commands mostly like zooming in and zooming out to find a stadium? Next question, what constitutes one of our 10 turns? If we want to "ascend 2 levels", is that 2 turns, or just one?

Good questions.

1) yes we are using google maps.
2) you will each have a turn and each start in a different unknown city
3) I will tell you your height and how many movement points you have left (height will be in zoom units, and yes it is basically zooming in and out of the map). Height of 1 is the closest zoom level, 3 is where you will start, and height must be 3 or less to drop a bomb.
4) Every action takes 1 movement point. You can move your target along both axes (is that right for plural of axis?) for one movement point if you want (ie target up 1/2, left 1/2 is one movement point).
5) Moving the crosshairs is accomplished by fractions of the distance to the edge of the screen. In my first example above, I wanted to move the target halfway from where it is to the top, so I did target up 1/2. In the next move I wanted to move it 1/10th of the way from where it is to the edge of the screen. Again you can move one or both directions (up/down and left/right) with one movement point, but they must be done at the same time if you move both.
6) the movement N, S, E, W is done with the arrow controls that are present in the interface of google maps.

edit: oh yeah discussion is allowed at all times

Please make sure to notice that ascending 2 times takes 2 movement points.

OK, couple of other quick questions. If I wanted to go north twice, would that also be 2 moves? If I move the crosshairs and then descend, do we re-center on the crosshairs?

Yes, 2 norths, 2 movement points. Moving crosshairs = 1 point, descending = 1 point. And no, you don't descend to the cross-hair center point. Only straight down.

OK. I don't think I'm going to be able to go any higher and still see a diamond, so let's go 1 North.

For future reference, once we get an initial photo we should see if anyone recognizes the city pictured. That would help us figure out which direction to go.

OK, North 1 and East 1.

Assuming that dropping the bomb takes one movement point, I think I am only going to have one chance to move the crosshairs. Hopefully this works well. In preparation for that move, the commands I give will be based on the distance from the crosshairs to the edge of the map, right?

Yes. ie if what you are aiming at is halfway between the center and the right edge, you could say target right 1/2.

For my last two actions: Move Crosshairs 4/5 right and 3/4 up. Drop bomb.

Would your actions be the same or different if I offered you 1 more movement point for $3000?

That's mean...and probably only possible because I gave my last two moves together. If offered, I would decline the offer because I believe I've got myself a hit. $10,000 or bust.
