Yup, I can't stand that either. They need to stay in their designated lane, period. And yes!! What the heck is up with them wearing those outfits like they are actually racing???? I don't put on pads and a helmet when I want to go throw a football around or dress up in NASCAR racing gear when I drive my car.

Might cross the line into outright tacky to quote myself but I liked this snippet from a good FB wall conversation today.

Quote:
"We were taught, at least figuratively, not to run with scissors (and likely got our butts beat if we were caught doing so). Today parents will gladly hand the kid the scissors, offer to have them professionally sharpened, and buy a 2nd pair for the neighborhood kid if it will buy them 30 minutes to pay bills/watch Oprah/ cook dinner before leaving for ball practice/or any of 649 other things that are on the agenda."

Seems random enough to fit here.

I can't determine if it was a bad dice roll due to a quota issue or if 1 speeding ticket in the last 200k miles is a proper sample size.

Ha no kidding. Not even getting into the hours I'm working these last 2 weeks.

Emergencey power is off now. Halls and stairs have been lined with glowsticks and doors only lock with the deadbolt from the inside.

Hampton inn. Though I've had good luck with them in the past and everyone is without power around here. Was drinking beers in the dark at a bar 10 miles away from here earlier. Been nearly 5 hours now.

Thousands remain without power this morning after violent thunderstorms with wind gusts up to 60 mph toppled trees, downed power lines and flooded streets.

Knoxville Utilities Board crews are working to restore power to nearly 80,000 customers in seven counties, while traffic lights, cable and Internet service remain out across the area. ... At the height of Tuesday night’s storm, 127,012 of KUB’s 199,698 customers were without power.

The largest pocket of outages is in Knox County with more than 72,000 still in the dark. Those customers are spread across the county with more than 15,000 in the dark in Halls and Fountain City.

Other hard-hit areas include West Hills, North Knoxville, Western Avenue, Cedar Bluff, East Knoxville, South Knoxville, Bearden, Rocky Hills, Sequoyah Hills, Karns and Solway.

Sevier, Union, Grainer and Jefferson counties also have heavy outages.

Similar power problems in Chicago. Storms knocked out power to 250,000 homes at about 9pm last night, and we were still without this morning.

3 years ago, you probably wouldn't have been pulled over. Now, they need every last penny they can get from people, so things that would have probably been warnings, are now going to be tickets. I try to not even go 1MPH over just because I know they are desperate for money.

I had a cop follow me all the way down the twisty turny road that I take to and from work. It's 35 until about 2 miles to the freeway where it jumps to 45. The road is notorious for speeders and is a money maker for the county. Not that day copper, not that day...

Ordered some Thomas the Train pajamas online for my toddler. The confirmation email contained the typical "Customers who bought this item also purchased . . ." suggestions. Most of them were for other kids' clothing. But one stuck out at me--an outdoor patio full bar set.

So, it is either a bit of a glitch in the "likely to purchase" algorithm, or parents of toddlers sometimes like to lock the kids in the house, sit outside, and drink.

Has MA officially surpassed Illinois for most corrupt state government? I think of every dollar you're taxed in MA at least 50 cents of it goes to renovations on some guy's luxury vacation property or towards a no-show job salary. They're equal opportunity though, now its special education that was ripped off for millions.

Stayed at the Comfort Inn on Rodi Road. Drove around downtown to park for a couple of Pirates games (ended up in the lot adjacent to Heinz Field). Crossed a few bridges in the process. Ate at the Bettis Grille, went up the Monongahela incline, spent an afternoon at the zoo.

Ok, that's a little bit of hyperbole. But in comparing with Baltimore - which parts of downtown really did remind me of - there was a marked difference.

So tired of reading about copper wire theft. I can't believe that the electric companies can't cut the shit out and secure their facilities better. And it seems like some common sense laws on copper sales would cut down on this type of BS.

Another day, another 'net outage.

They're startin' to turn "AT&T" into a four-letter word at my house.

WTH, nobody has been random since I was yesterday? Surely I couldn't have killed the thread just bitchin about AT&T.

Meanwhile, went to the eye doc today, figuring it was time for new glasses. Apparently I've jumped right past the need for bifocals into trifocals (aka progressives).

Wonder if those mean I'll be able to see three sides to every story?

The bifocals I have on order are progressives. Progressives != trifocals, progressives = no hard line to show that you are wearing bifocals or trifocals.

I kinda get it (I think). They're like trifocals (in function) just without the annoying lines.

Kind of intimidated after getting the "these take a little getting used to" speech from the doc, I had trouble enough getting used to wearing even singles (whatever you call "regular" glasses) but it's either that or try to swap between 2-3 pair and that'd never work for me.

We'll see how it goes (no pun intended) when they show up in a couple of weeks. Pricey bastards, that's for sure.
