Has there ever been a PPV where just about all the heels won? Main event was filled with all faces so it's tough to count that, but even that had the guy with some of the least pop win. Fun event, but sort of weird to see.

Cody's turning babyface, and really, the story with Sandow should be a great one, one that can endure and elevate them both.

I agree. Would be surprised if Sandow cashed in the briefcase though. I have a feeling Cody and him will battle over it with Cody coming out on top and taking it.

Or Sandow, after months of clashing with Cody, tries to smartly cash in the moment Cody wins the title...but gets outsmarted by Rhodes.
Would be the ultimate payoff, and lead to an even longer feud afterwards over the belt. They have a chance to build this into the best story the business has seen in a long time. So many people you can involve, and the chemistry between the two, from everything I read, would be fantastic. |

I'm sure it would be a good story, but Rhodes has been slotted as a midcarder for how many years now, it would probably result in some of the worst TV rating segments and then would get McMahon'ed and rewritten within a couple of weeks. You probably would need to strengthen Rhodes for at least 6 months before being able to start that story. Would be very cool though.
I like Randy Orton as the MITB winner. He's pretty much guaranteed to turn heel now, which I think he's far better at. And they've done absolutely nothing with him for about a year now, so it's about time they do. I don't even think he's been in any major storylines in ages, until the Kane / Bryan / Orton thing. |

They haven't done anything because they don't trust him. And they've been grooming Rhodes for awhile, but it's been inconsistent, I agree. I think the Rhodes/Sandow story, if done the way you suggest (which is also what I suggest) could be one for the ages. But the damn WWE shoots their wad way too early all the time. It's one big reason why I don't watch anymore. They have the biggest thing to hit the business in years fall right into their lap two years ago, and they totally blow it up after, what, three weeks? Sigh. |

Heh, I just finished reading that story a little while ago. I thought it was kinda interesting that, as one reader pointed out, he's claiming to do it in order to preserve the secrecy of the outcomes ... and yet he's the only person who is getting all of them right. Basically he's bitching about himself.

That is one of the big problems with WWE. Sandow and Rhodes are talents and can put on a great program. But they've booked them as glorified jobbers for a year or so now. They did the same thing with Ziggler. Then they want you to take them seriously when they decide to push. |

The writing still sucks on the show, but they've given a lot of good talent time to work. The roster is impressive these days from a sheer talent perspective.
Also, the Punk-Heyman feud looks like it's going to be incredible. That segment was one of the best they've done in years. That's how you do a feud. |

Another post because I'm actually watching Raw tonight, but is there a new talent relations person in the company? Seriously, they have a lot of guys who can do good stuff these days. I mean the guy they have as the new GM is really good. It's little stuff in his mannerisms, but he's real good.

A new head writer started right after Wrestlemania, they got him from All My Children. They really liked the direction he took things, but he gave his notice a few weeks ago because of the workload. They gave him more money and he's agreed to stay at least through Summerslam.

13 years ago this weekend that the legendary Gordon Solie passed away. I ran across a long transcribed interview with him conducted a couple of years before his death. Some excellent bits in there about how he approached the business & his craft.

Man, Gordon Solie sucked me into wrestling. I had never really seen pro wrestling until I went into the Army. Got hooked on GCW and attended the shows at the Bell Auditorium in Augusta almost every Monday night, hoping to see someone kick the Freebirds asses. Can't believe he has been gone so long, a true legend. |

I'll second that, he hosted a weekly show that basically summarized what was going on in the wrestling world. That gave me insight into all the US companies that I only read about in the magazines. Back then it was the NWA, the UWF, Mid-South, World Class, etc. I couldn't see any of that stuff until I saw Gordon Solie hosting that show.

Yeah, I don't think the DVD will spend enough time on the DiBiase/Flair/Murdoch turn which they completely turned the company in 60 mins using a wrestler who wasn't even from their territory. Probably the 2nd greatest turn in the history of wrestling (IMO). I wish the WWE had the ability to organize things like the "old days" but they seem to live off the goldfish brain theory. From what I read, it sounds like they are trying to make storylines but will find a way to screw it up and scrap it after the next PPV like they always do. |

Yup! My memories are from Northern Ontario, and up there you had International Wrestling crossing over from Quebec vs. Southern Ontario where they had the WWF. I got to see guys like Rick Martel, Dino Bravo, Rougeau Brothers. We had Abdullah the Butcher semi regularly, I even saw Bruiser Brody once before he passed away. They brought up the Road Warriors a couple of times and it sold out the entire place. |

Kurt Angle got his 4th DUI. That matches his WWE title count, and his medal count in international amateur wrestling competitions.

Just came back from Ring of Honor in Toronto and saw a scary accident. Mike Bennett gave BJ Whitmer a piledriver ON THE RING APRON. It was scary risky, and of course he drops him right on his head and they both fall off onto the mat. The match was instantly called off and I've never seen people run as quickly as they did following this. A bunch of the wrestlers came out to help, he ended up getting stretchered off after about 15 minutes. You can check out Arda Ocal's twitter for a picture of the piledriver impact, someone took a picture at the exact moment. Sounds like BJ has feeling in his hands and legs, so hopefully it's just a stinger and he'll be okay shortly.

Read about that earlier on Twitter. Somebody mentioned (Ocal maybe) that it was 16 yrs ago today (this wknd?) that Austin got hurt. Whitmer is a pretty good worker, hope this has a good outcome.

I actually think pile drivers and tombstones should be put rest, too dangerous especially versus the risk and they typically only result in two counts anyways. Seriously though no point in head down moves anymore.

Well I say it was way too risky. Also later in the show there was a Hurricarana from the top rope to a guy standing on the apron to bring both guys to the outside of the ring. My judgement would be that if you can't replicate it 100 times in a row safely, you probably shouldn't try it.

BJ Whitmer tweeted that he's being discharged from the hospital later tonight. And also tweeted his support for the other guy (whose name escapes me at the moment), saying it was just an accident & nothing more.

The Bryan-Cena feud has been great. Looking forward to their match. Have a feeling though Bryan will win and Orton will cash in with HHH turning heel and Orton becoming the corporate champion.
Punk-Lesnar has been great too. They have built up a nice card for Summerslam. One of the few times I remember them actually having feuds built up for most of the card. |
