I'm so very happy of steam's refund policy. As long as you have played 2 hours or less and owned the game for less than 2 weeks you get a complete refund. I've already done that to a few things I impulse bought! And I get to keep the steam cards as well!

This. Also curious about FHM if it's worth it at $10, and if there's a mod that adds the Golden Knights.

My old roommate bought one a year and a half ago, or so and we had major lag problems making it mostly unplayable. That being said, we were trying to play multiplayer action games, where little lag bumps were a big deal. I moved out nearly a year ago, so no idea whether or not it was fixed or even if it was more than a problem on our end only. |

Were you doing it wired or wireless? Is there even an option?

Everything I've read says that the Steam Link is useless on wireless.

Steamlink is outstanding if you can manage a wired connection. On wireless it just doesn't get a consistent enough connection to work with anything that requires lag free play.
My setup had my router maybe 15 feet away and it didn't lag often, but when it did lag it would freeze for a good 3-5 seconds. That made a lot of games unplayable. I switched to a wired connection a few weeks ago and it's fantastic. No lag and plays just as you'd want it to. |

Thanks for the input on steamlink. Sounds kind of like a crap shoot on wireless and my router is in my office, about 50 feet from where the TV is in the game room, so hardwiring would really not be an option based on the configuration of our house.

Running Ethernet cable throughout your house is actually somewhat simple if you're willing to get your hands dirty. This morning I ran a hardwired connection through my attic to the office, and it took less than 4 hours (would have been WAY faster if we didn't have trouble drilling down through the drywall framing).

I definitely considered this, but our set up makes it hard to get to that spot in the attic due to vaulted ceilings. I probably will end up just getting a repeater to boost the signal strength. |

I probably told this story before, but here goes.
A few years ago I looked into have the house wired - basically 7 rooms, 4 connections each - all wired to my utility closet. I called a few places and got a few quotes. Some of them were for about $4k (ugh). Finally, a local one-man operation gave me a quote for $900. Couldn't believe it, so I asked if he was "sure". He said yes, that it would probably take him a day to run the house. It took DAYS. But, at the end, I have my seven rooms with CAT-6 connected and the performance in the house is night and day with what we had before. Considering we're a big PC family (as well as console and streaming), the money was well worth it. And yes, I did pay him more than his quote because I felt bad.

I bought a fishing tape from the local hardware store. For $30 or so I got a spool of 25 feet of metal tape designed specifically for this. Once you have the hole drilled in the top of the wall frame and the low voltage box cut out of the drywall, you run the fishing tape through from top to bottom (two person job). Once you have it cleanly through, you tape your Ethernet cable to the fishing tape (electrical tape is the standard use here, but we used painter's tape this weekend), then continue to thread the fishing tape (now with Ethernet cable attached) through until you have the cable itself run. Then it's just a matter of cutting the ends off the cable and stripping off the insulation to connect the wires to your keystone jacks. It's a lot intimidating at first, but each step is actually very straightforward, and as long as you are careful (measure twice, cut once), it's actually kind of hard to screw up. Yeah, my issue is going up rather than down. However, I should be ok, doing it in reverse. Drop the line, attach the cable to the line, pull up.

Yeah, you can do it in either direction; if you continuously feed it through rather than pull it back, you don't run the risk of having to re-fish the wall if the Ethernet cable comes loose during the run.

Does anyone know some other games that would be similar to Firewatch? Kind of middle of the nowhere desolate type lol. I can't put my finger on exactly why I loved that game, but want more.

Good game. Relaxing change of pace. Have been more into ATS lately as I don't have to worry about driving on the wrong side of the road. |

so when actually do the cards expire? I see conflicting things. I see that you can continue to trade and craft badges until august 5.
But something also said that the cards expire when the Sale ends. I thought the sales end on July 5, at least that's what I'm seeing for specific games. |
