Really sexist and very heavy into "bro" culture, but it was very funny.

Yeah. There were a few times where I wondered if it would get made today. The stuff Ari says to Lloyd is pretty bad.

It is always funny how network television all copy each other, sometimes even before any show has had success. There are two major pilots being put together right now for a private eye show set in Los Angles. One is a remake of "The Rockford Files" starring David Boreanaz. I think that is actually a pretty good show for a remake. I love the original, and it is not as gimmiky as say "Magnum PI" was. I just don't know if Boreanaz has the same level of casual cool that James Garner had.
The second is starring Jake Johnson, and has Dan Goor (Brooklyn Nine Nine) as a co-creator. Akiva Schaffer (Lonely Island, "The Naked Gun") is also an Executive Producer and is directing the pilot. That is some big hitters. I expect this will be more in the zany comedy realm.
There was a thitd, but I think it ended up dying before the pilot. Probably because of these two shows getting orders.

Last night I finished The Survivors on Netflix, a thriller whodunit set in Australia. While it had its own storylines, it definitely felt "inspired" by Broadchurch (and the novel it is based on was written in 2020, well after Broadchurch). Similar set-up - small coastal town, everyone knows each other, a bunch of secrets, kid dies, etc. 6 episodes, easy watch, enjoyable enough.

A few years behind but binged Succession recently, all four seasons in 2.5 weeks. I decided to give it a try when I realized it was created by Jesse Armstrong, the creator/writer of my favorite recent UK sitcom Peep Show.

Loved it, even thinking of going back to the beginning and watching again if I cant find something new. Easily top of my favorite binge-able tv series alongside Mad Men.

Kendall Roy is an absolute dick.

Nathan Fillion had been teasing a "Firefly" reunion for a couple of weeks and there was lots of speculation on what it might be. The show has been off the air for 25 years with a sort finale movie made. That never satisfied the fans, who have even this long past been rabid for a return. Most guesses were that it would be the whole cast showing up on his show "The Rookie". It actually is a return to the series, but in animated form. They say the whole cast is returning. The surprising one there is Adam Baldwin, who has been on the outs since the Gamergate thing. One who will not be involved is executive producer Joss Whedon because of his "Me, Too" situation.
I have honestly never gotten too into the show. I was hesitant back when it was on because I knew Fox's track record on new shows, and the early cancellation bore it out. I have watch the first couple of episodes and I get why people like it. It really is different than most Sci-fi that is made. I will probably do a binge and watch the animated series once it comes out.

My wife and I love Science Fiction have burned through a lot of the full series for most of the major franchises. We've known about Firefly for a long time but avoided it because we knew it got cancelled way too early. Well, we did finally start watching it about 6 months ago because anyway and we are really glad we did. Still absolutely criminal that it was cancelled but overall just a fun show with really likeable characters. Surprisingly funny too. Definitely recommended.

Firefly is an all time great TV show that Fox execs didn't understand and purposely tried to bury. They moved its timeslot around and played the episodes out of order. IIRC Whedon was told directly by Fox that they "didn't get it".

The rumor was that whatever was being worked on was supposed to gauge interest and possibly set up a new series in the firefly universe with a new cast. If that's what they want to do this is a low cost way to see how it does.

The rest of the story is that this is all being done by Fillion's production company and they don't have a network signed on yet. So, this was really a announcement about a desire to do it more than it is actually happening. Having the cast all on and they have a show-runner that has a good background ready to do it. I don't know how much they can get done without a distributor signing on though.

I'll be pretty surprised if they don't get a distributor. Firefly fandom is pretty big, it should make plenty of money.

I watched the first 2 episodes of Young Sherlock Holmes on Prime over the weekend. It's entertaining enough, although I could do without the modern production/direction stuff (fight scenes in both episodes so far, slo-mo action crap, modern music, etc.). Eh. Apparently the director is the guy who was married to Madonna 25 years ago? Hopefully it does well enough to get renewed for at least a couple of seasons. The Holmes/Moriarty friendship is interesting and well-done given what we know about how that evolves.

Lol. Guy Ritchie has done a couple of things beyond marry Madonna 25 years ago. "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch" are pretty good movies. I haven't even watched that show yet, but I know what you mean bout the action sequence. It is a Ritchie trademark, but honestly it is a bit overdone and dated by this point. It was cool and cutting edge in the late 90's.

I don't watch movies so I've missed about 25 years of actors, directors, etc. Last summer, I watched the Sherlock series with that Cumberbatch guy and that was the first time I'd actually put a name with a face. And apparently the guy who played Dr. Watson is also a movie star. I'd never heard of or seen him before I watched Sherlock.

I'm really enjoying One Piece on Netflix, striving to be their next flagship show after Stranger Things. As campy as this show is, it's not going to cater to everyone's taste, but it does follow the source material (the anime also on Netflix, and the manga) really closely. And for the fanboys of the original, this hits the mark.

It was well known that she had a child abuse allegation from several years ago when they put her on. Then a new allegation hit. Then video surfaced of the 2023 incident where she threw a metal chair across the room and hit her 5 year old.

As we've seen with sports, video causes cancellations in ways that mere words don't.

My wife is watching the pilot of the show where Kim Kardashian is supposed to be some high powered attorney and it is just a cringy bad as one would think. Including her outfit which only covers the bottom half of her ass revealing a thong on the top half.

What kills me about that show is the number big time, quality actresses involved. Glenn Close, Sarah Paulson, Naomi Watts, Teyana Taylor. You would think this was a high-brow Emmy-bait show if it wasn't for who the main star is. It is crazy that level of talent would be involved with that.

Yes. Never heard of or seen him before I watched Sherlock. He's probably been in a lot of stuff but I haven't watched much of anything for 20 years (movies especially).

Also big mad that it literally looks like the same as the movies. Nothing different other than who plays the characters. I feel like it's gonna bomb because fans will ignore it.

Wait, they're going to do the same story as the movies? What's the point? Is it like 1 season per book? Was there that much good stuff in the books that the movies left out?

Same old crap. Racist mad because Snape is black. Dumbledore is an American and the actor is too old to finish the series. Honestly, I think the kids are more on par with the books than the movies were. They have a possibility to remake these three more inline with the books, as well as give us story-lines that got cut. They will definitely also be some added stories, like way more of the faculty shown. That just makes sense, especially in the early seasons.
Will it flop? Who knows. It has lots of internet haters between the racists, trolls, and the J.K. Rowling's haters. It just hard to judge how many people that really is, because the loudest on the internet are no where near truly representative of the whole. Everyone was saying the Hogwarts video game would bomb, but it definitely didn't. The Reddit's about the show and the books seem pretty positive so far. We will see how that translates.

I've realized as I've gotten older I can't watch cringe tv like I used to. I really enjoyed The Studio but ended up having to skip the episode where he was at the benefit with the doctors. Same with the first 20 minutes or so of Send Help, the Sam Raini movie. Basically had it run on mute after like the first 5 minutes because it was cringe. Literally was causing nerves to fire in my spine it was just so uncomfortable.

I love it. I’ve never watched the anime, but I find the show super enjoyable. I love how it clearly leans into the anime weirdness and look for the sets and characters. They seem to have nailed the casting of the main characters.

Liked the first couple of episodes of Widow's Bay on Apple TV. The mayor of a cursed New England fishing town trying to turn it into a tourist destination. It's a horror dark comedy, got a bit of Jaws and a good chunk of Stephen King novels too.

Only problem it's only one new episode per week after the first two.

I liked the first episode!

As for the one new episode a week, given my viewing time, that's a feature no a bug.

I can usually watched 1-3 episodes a week, so when I am watching multiple shows like I am now - The Boys, Daredevil and Widow's Bay - I can fall behind pretty quickly.

Just watched first episode and liked it. I like Reese a lot.

How cool is this. The writer, Katie Dippold, who has several credits to her name, grew up literally 4 houses from me and I was good friends with her sister. We all used to play together as kids all the time.

I think I am done with The Bear. We watched the stand alone episode that was released and it was terrible. The show is trying to win awards instead of just being the great show it was in season 1.

To be fair, the ceremony was streamed live on YouTube so it's not completely off-topic!

Yeah I quite enjoyed Rooster, possibly my favorite new show since Ted Lasso (in a bit of a heat with Shrinking for that spot).
