So is the ability to give "pep talks" to oncoming subs.

I don't think you can edit the set pieces using the tactics creator, you have to edit them after the tactic is created the old way. It does generate basic instructions though.
There is a good thread in the SI Tactics forum on setting Corners. Worked well for me.

Yeah, it's in the same location as last year. Cool thing is you can also customize the set pieces screens like the squad screen. All of my set pieces screens now are customized with appropriate attribute ratings. Eg. my attacking and defending corner selection screens now have player height, jumping, heading, marking, etc. attributes to make selections a breeze.

I don't think this has been posted yet, but the FM '10 Tactical Theorems guide looks like a really good way for noobs and vets to think about how to get the most out of their squad. 62 pages of what looks like really sound advice. http://www.fm-britain.co.uk/tactics-...l-theorems-10/

I thought you were able to coach both a club team and the national team. Trying to coach a team in Coca Cola Championship and the US National Team. Can't seem to get both under my control.

you definately can rain - i am right now. you can't start with both though - you have to start with one or the other and be approached by whatever you're not initially coaching

Or if you don't care about having both jobs under the same manager (for stats/accomplishments/reputation purposes) you can create a second user and have the second one take control of the national team you want to be. In that case it's just like a hotseat game, you switch users in the bottom left corner IIRC.

love the touchline instructions May be a bit too precice/powerfull, but love them.
And i think that for the first time a can actually set up a counter attack and that with just the tactics creator and no sliders. Donīt exactly have many games to do that but nice to see itīs working when iīm up.
Havenīt been able to sell a single big name player, but considering their contract demands thatīs realistic.
Bought another striker after a longterm injury to Iaquinta, Milevskiy of Kiew who is young (24) and versatile.

Won the first league game 5-0 against Atalanta, to be fair the opositionīs GK had a miserable day, after losing to Napoli and drawing Betis in my final 2 friendlies. So iīm positively suprised, hope it wasnīt an outlier.

Got an interesting but fairly easy Champions League Draw :

Sevilla
Dinamo Kiev
Standard Liege

so i get an ok 1st tier team (Sevilla) , the ex-club of Milevskiy (who was unhappy to leave) and my belgian Feeder Club who i beat 6-1 in preseason. Should be doable.

Still trying to get a grip on all the players i have in the roster or on loan. Propably wonīt buy anyone in the winter and hardly anyone next offseason.

uTorrent and the Mega Facepack?

Hardly have ever used torrent but d'loaded uTorrent as suggested in the MP thread. Have the torrent d'loading and things are going well speedwise, usually showing 4-5 hours to complete.

Problem is the MP thread says

Quote:
It will then start downloading the pack into uTorrent and the pack will be in your documents in a folder called File Share Downloads.

I don't have a folder called File Share Downloads but the torrent is d'loading somewhere on my computer. Is it\will it create this folder? Will it only show up when the d'load is done? Do I need to start over and designate a destination in the uTorrent preferences?

FWIW using Vista 64bit home premium.

It may be in My Documents/Downloads. Look there. I don't know what the hell "File Share Downloads" is. I've not seen a program that uses that as its default download location.

You don't have skin cache checked, do you? Need to have that unchecked and then reload the skin or restart the game. Other than that I'd make sure that the config.xml file is sitting in the megapack folder with the rest of the pics.

I'm not sure I'd agree with that. I played the 2008 version up until the other day when I got the 2010 version. I almost felt lost for the first few days. It's a very significant upgrade over 2008.

that's what i'm assuming too - just wanted to be sure. i'll throw it in a spoiler-tag here.

A lot of it was fueled by the kids that Juve have in the pipeline - criscito, ariaudo, marchisio, maybe ekdal if he can win a spot in crowded midfield, paolucci. but the kids I bought in 2010/2011 are now 20/21 and are pushing for at least backup/squad rotation status.

Spoiler

@ Daddy Torgo : Thatīs part of why i decided to quit the Juve save for now, the one thing that is too easy with this game is to rebuild a squad on the fly if you are a big, prestigious team.
Decided to try with Fiorentina (and lowered their reputation a bit in the editor as well) to have more of an "upstart" feel trying to overleap the big title favourites. Also gives me an opportunity to go after 2nd tier players more, not having to challenge for the title every year.
Definitely could see myself managing Juve with a ton of fun as well, but want to sth different for now

Have a new house rule not to buy any wonderkids i know from previous versions... Also decided not to upgrade my staff above 3.5 stars (fitness at 4 though) and only 6 scouts.

Sold Mutu, Santana and Marchioni for about 25 mio Euro all in all. Bought Milevskiy (12) from Kiev, Beck (7) from Hoffenheim, Hummels from Dortmund (8) and loaned Cani from Betis. And also David Beckham This one is propably cheating the game but havenīt had him in a team since like FM06 (well, played that till 09 came out ) and wanted to give it a shot.

Also bought 2 norwegian prospects in Yttergard Jenssen (Tromsö) and Demidov (Rosenborg) for about 2 mio each.
I despearetly want to coach that national team, so iīll make sure to get them up to speed

It just feels like more fun to try to get over the top with Fiorentina, the players i brought in are good but not world class by any means and iīm not trying to get those type of players either, want to make it an interesting team, bring in players from my own youth as well (Fiorentina has propably 5,6 serious candidates in the U20 team) around a nucleus of solid players.

Having a hard time finding a formation, however i won my first leg champions league qualification match @ Shakhtar Donezk 3-0 using a counter attacking 4-4-2 (flat version) changing to a 4-4-2 diamond later , might be onto sth.
Milevskiy and Gillardino worked great together up front, Hummels substituted in as an DM (anchor man) and did really well. Used Beckham as a deep lying playmaker in the first half and he played great + scored on a free kick

EDIT : As for actual impressions. Again, for anybody still in doubt because of the complexity, the assistants are so much improved, wow. Iīve been playing FM for years but definitely appreciate not having to research everything and getting usefull advice that gets me to progress much faster.
The tactics creator is just awesome as is the simplified tactics version. In previous versions i would have like 25 tactics made for different situations or had to adjust for like 10 minutes mid game, this time i just need a couple base sets and can easily make an attacking tacking into a counter tactic with the simplified tactics version. Iīm sold, wonīt touch the full-on slider mode this year

Plus when you go to backroom advice you get perfectly reasonable suggestions on players to target, prospects to scout, who should take set pieces, what players should learn/unlearn moves etc, etc, etc.

It really is quicker as well, no doubt.

If you want a 'realistic' challenge then try what I do - I only allow myself to buy players who are in the same division as me or who I have scout results on (and no that doesn't mean you get to scout individual players or whatever other way of sneaking players onto your shortlist which you come up with ... just send scouts to regions).

This makes things MUCH harder - but prevents your knowledge build up from prior games from affecting things as much.

i've got to start a rosenborg save also - my rosenborg game in the demo was loads of fun due to not knowing the players and the restrictions in the league rules.

OK, long-time lurker posting b/c this seems to be a good place to get questions answered.

I've never played a long-term (i.e., more than a couple seasons) career in England, so I'm just now running into the discovery that getting a player a work permit when you first sign them doesn't mean that they'll get one when you try to sign them to a contract extension. So, uh, what exactly do I do here? And what does it mean to request a feeder team under the category of "work permit?"

i just twice got "FM2010 is dangerously low on memory" errors and then quits - the second after a 6-0 drugging of Werder Bremen in the Champions League.

wtf

wtf

First Juve give their players with PEDs now they are drugging the opposition, send them down to Serie B again imo (yeah I know you meant drubbing)

More seriously, were you playing the game for a long time before that match or had you just opened the program? I notice that if I don't exit the game and restart it every month or so the page file usage keeps increasing and things get slower, maybe that is why the game crashed. How much RAM do you have?

So, uh, what exactly do I do here? And what does it mean to request a feeder team under the category of "work permit?"

In England, non european union players must get work permits to be allowed transfer into the country. These permits are usually only given to players who have played something like 60% of their national teams last 20 games or something. Essentially, it means you cant sign non-EU players unless they are apart of and playing for their national teams. The exception is the "special talent" clause, which is usually reserved for wonderkids or other amazingly talented players, but dont bank on this often.

So what clubs do to get around this, is they set up a feeder club arrangement with a team from a country with the easiest citizen requirements(Belgium and Poland are the two that come to mind). So they sign the player without a work permit and loan him out to these countries until they get citizenship there and are then EU citizens(for example, I think belgium takes 3 years). Its annoying, but its just like in real life. What I usually try to do, with any non-EU players I sign in England, whether they get a work permit or not, is ensure the contract is as long as possible, so by the time its up they qualify for citizenship and dont need a new work permit.

This makes things MUCH harder - but prevents your knowledge build up from prior games from affecting things as much.

am doing the scouting thing allready. One in Italy, 2 for Europe (alternating, right now one Scandinavia and one Western Europe), one in South america. The other 2 track players on loan and the opposition.

Kind of cheated with Becks and Milevskiy, but the others have been recommended by my scouts (Cani in my assistants loan availability report).

Will stick with maximum 4 transfers a season (including freebies) max with 2 max aged 23 and younger (itīs too easy to get talented young players) of whome 2 must be Italian.

Going to see how it goes, with Juve absolutely loaded and Milan allready having made a few sensible transfers iīll definitely have a challenge for years, especially since i lowered my prestige a little.
Gilardino allready proclaimed he wanted to leave for a bigger club, upon me doing the "you stay here you little bastard" routine he backed off fortunately, only to pull his harmstring the next match and be out for 3 weeks
Also lost beck to a broken ankle, but seem to be pretty well set up at right and left back.
Canīt have any striker injuries as i only have Gillardino, Milevskiy and Jovetic who i normally play as the AM. And Castillo coming back from injury who doesnīt seem to be a guy iīd want to play all the time.

Got handed Arsenal, Lyon and Rubin Kasan (who are valued high, seem to be rated nearly as good as playing IRL) in the champions league, thatīs rather rough ...

@ mel anon : If he got a work permit the first time, unless he gets worse heīs going to get one the 2nd time around,in my experience at least.
Once had it declined on a contract renewal on an US player (eddie lewis ?) in a Leeds save back on FM06.

More seriously, were you playing the game for a long time before that match or had you just opened the program? I notice that if I don't exit the game and restart it every month or so the page file usage keeps increasing and things get slower, maybe that is why the game crashed. How much RAM do you have?

the second time i exited and restarted and it happened again.

but i had had my computer on for a very long time, and had FF open (stupid memory-leaking browser). Once i quit FF and all I was able to get through the game - this time I only won 3-0 though

Just a heads up for those of us who haven't picked up FM2010 yet, it appears GoGamer.com has it for $29.99 (+ $3 shipping) for the next 15 hours or so. Seems like a pretty good deal.

Ah, thanks. I actually got myself a team in Poland, but my guys don't want to go there on loan. I don't really blame them, but I guess it means they're doomed to leave eventually. Oh well, I guess I'll have to put the kibosh on signing non-EU youngsters.

Blade did a good job answering this. But the reason your player is losing his work permit is because he never played nor did he meet the conditions that Blade outlined above.

May have just had one of my greatest comebacks. I started my second season in league 2 on fire and in first place through five games playing the 3rd place team on the road. Fall behind 2-0 and have my CM sent off for his 2nd yellow at 58 minutes. Go contain to minimize damage and end up scoring 3 goals in next 32 minutes to win and stay in first place.

Anothe question - I download a text file that should give good opp instruction panels. How do I get it to work; i changed extension to .xml and put in Panels folder under My Documents.

Well damn, I've played FM 2006, 08, 09 and now 10. In all that time playing FM I've never played a team from Barclay's Premier League. I've played almost all of my games in either Blue Square N or S except when I won promotion to BSP.
My only experience other than that was dabbling, with FM09, a little in Coca Cola Champions with Crystal Palace.

This year I started unemployed and was hired by Charlton in Coca Cola league 1. Just watched the draw for the FA cup and drew Wigan to play on my pitch Really looking forward to it but nervous at the same time. The board wants me to make round 4 and I have to go through Wigan to get there. Also I just lost my best ML winger (play a 4-4-2 diamond) with a broken ankle and don't have much depth at the position.

Could be worse Chelsea and Liverpool were still both waiting to be drawn at the time

loving my 2012/2013 season

17 games in - 12 wins - 3 draws - 2 losses (4-3 to Palermo and 2-1 to Inter). And still just a max of 6 points between the top 4 teams (i'm tops by 3pts and have a game in hand).

Been fiddling with my tactic a little but decided to go back to how I've had it the past couple years - wasn't getting the ratings for my strikers that I had been getting, although their goal production was still strong.

wow - it's December 24 and Sergio Aguero already has 19 goals and has broken my game's goalscoring record for Juve (set by Diego in 2011).

Guess the big payout was worth it. Wheee!!
