Headline: Big names ready for BIF Cup
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Like the three previous years Brøndby have this year again decided to host their own mini cup-tournament before the start of the regular season. Unlike the previous years where it has been difficult to get big teams to come to Denmark to play, this year have been a lot different. With Brøndby good results in last years champions league some of the world’s best teams was suddenly available this summer. Therefore it’s possible for Brøndby this year to announce some huge names among the teams that will play in the BIF Cup the 7July-8july in Brøndby stadium. The line-up for the 2007 BIF Cup will look like this:

Barcelona
Chelsea
Monaco
Brøndby

Brøndby will play Barcelona in the first match while Monaco will go up against Chelsea. The two winners will go on to play in the final the next day while the losers will play for 3rd place.

Onside.dk can today confirm that Brøndby have put in an offer of £1mil for AGFs DM Leon Andreasen. No other details about the offer have yet been made available. Leon Andreasen would take over as the BIF defensive midfielder from 33-year old Kim Daugaard if the transfer goes true. Other Danish clubs is expected to join the hunt of the promising midfielders’ services in the days to come. That could very well drive up the price and make Leon Andreasen the most expensive player sold between two Danish clubs.

Headline: Thomas Northwood offered the US job.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A spokesperson from the Brøndby (BIF) front office today confirmed that the US Football Association have offered BIF manager Thomas Northwood the job as manager for the US national team. The job became available when Bruce Arena was fired after the loss in the final of the Confederation Cup.
No other details were made available but it’s assumed that if he takes the job he will also keep his current possession with BIF. Questions have already been raised among the Brøndby fans if the travel activity needed in this job would have a negative effect on Northwood’s work in Brøndby.
No comments have yet been released from Thomas Northwood.

Brøndby IF have today decided to double the bid on DM Leon Andreasen from £1mil to £2mil. Its still £300.000 less then the FC København offer but Brøndby still hopes to have a chance to secure the service from the popular player. This can look like a huge gamble for Brøndby as they commit more then half their transfer budget on this one player.

BIF Cup Semi Final 1:
Brøndby – FC Barcelona 1-0 / (0-0)

Brøndby opened the new season against mighty Barcelona and once again made headlines. After a goalless first half Brøndby took the lead after 58minuts play when Baca goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand fumbled a cross from Morten Skoubo over the line for an own goal. In the remaining half hour Barcelona presses on to get the equalizing goal with Brøndby being dangerous on counterattacks. Barcelona never got the goal and Brøndby is now ready for the final in the 3rd BIF Cup. It has to be mentioned that Barcelona rested some of their biggest stars in this game and only played them for 45 minutes. That don’t take anything away from Brøndbys win and they also won the shots stats 14-8.

BIF Cup Semi Final 2:
Monaco – Chelsea 2-2p / (1-1)

In the other semi final, Chelsea needed penalties to get past Monaco. They will play Brøndby in the final tomorrow evening, while Barcelona and Monaco will play for 3rd place.

Headline: Thomas Northwood turn down the US
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In an interview with a Danish newspaper Brøndby manager Thomas Northwood confirms that he have turned down the job offer from the US national team. He stated his limited knowledge of American soccer and the amount of travelling necessary as the main reasons to turn down the job. He went on to say that he still had ambitions about taking over a national team if an opening would turn up in the future.
Northwood’s reputation in Europe has been growing after the Brøndby teams’ performance last year in the Champions League and the three straight league titles. It’s rumoured that several clubs in England and central Europe is interested in taking Thomas Northwood away from Brøndby to see what he could do with a bigger transfer budget.

BIF Cup 3rd place game:
Monaco – FC Barcelona 0-0p / (0-0)

The match for 3rd place was not much to see. The two teams took it as a light training and finished without any of the teams was able to score. In the following penalty shootout Monaco showed most skills and took home 3rd place in the BIF Cup in front of Barcelona.

BIF Cup Final:
Brøndby – Chelsea 0-0p / (0-0)

A stunning 31.717 showed up to watch the final between Brøndby and Chelsea. That’s just 20 persons short of the stadium record set back in 2006 when Brøndby played FC København for the title. It was a close match with chances to score the deciding goal for both teams. Eidur Gudjohnsen had the biggest chances for Chelsea and for Brøndby Peter Grandlund came closest. After 90 minutes the match was still tied at 0-0 and penalty’s was needed. No less then 9 players from each team was needed before Andreas Hinkel was able to decide the game to Chelsea’s advantage.

Leon Andreasen has today asked the AGF board to accept the transfer offer from Brøndby. The reason he prefers Brøndby in front of FC København is the chance he will get in Brøndby to play in the Champions League. Leon will travel to Brøndby during the week and try to agree on a personal contract that will make him Brøndby player before the season kicks off next week.

EPL winners Aston Villa have started to upgrade before the upcoming games in the champions league. They do it by buying Ajax’s young attacker Daniël de Ridder for £10.25mil. This could be something of a gamble as de Ridder has only scored 21 goals for Ajax over the last four seasons.

Headline: New Brazilian player in Brøndby
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With the signing of 20 year old Wellington from Fortaleza Brøndby now got three Brazilians players on the roster. Striker Wellington will start out in the reserves team and is a long term investment for Brøndby. Here he will team up with fellow Brazilian Jaja who arrived in Brøndby back in 2004/5. Jackson is the last Brazilian on the Brøndby roster and he has spent his time in Denmark as a backup for the first team.
Brøndby also inform that they have not been able to agree on new contracts with Morten Skoubo and Martin Retov. Both players have contract ending within the next year but the high wage demands from the players makes it difficult for Brøndby. Hopefully the two parts can find a solution soon as the two key players will be very hard for Brøndby to replace.

Former Brøndby attacker and Swedish international Johan Elmander is once again on the move. He was sold from Brøndby to Leicester back in the 2005/6 season for £900K. After only 1 ½ year with the team he is on the move again. This time the price is £6.5mil and his new destination is Southampton. The big Swede fits in much better in England then in Denmark where he had a hard time getting playing time in the first team.

Brøndby have decided to turn down the offer from Monaco on young France attacker Azoulay Yohan. Manager Thomas Nordskov says it was the unclear situation around Morten Skoubos contract that made him decide not to sell. If Skoubo decides to leave the club and Brøndby also sell Yohan the club could find themselves with very few goal scores left on the roster.
Northwood say that Yohan is still very young and will get his chance in the future but for now he will have to honour his contract with Brøndby.

Round 1/33:
Brøndby – FC København 3-3 / (2-0)

The teams open the season with the 12th match between the two teams. Brøndby got off to the best possible start with a goal after just 4 minutes of play when Martin Retov scored on a fast break. After 21 minutes Azoulay Yohan showed why he is expected to be the next big star in Brøndby Stadium when he finished off a Brøndby attack with a perfect shot for the second Brøndby goal of the day. 2-0 was also the score at halftime. In the second half Brøndby quickly found themselves under pressure and it only took FC København (FCK) 7 minutes to get back within one goal. Jesper Bech was the goal score for FCK. It only took them 12 minutes to get the next and the two teams were even again. With only 9 minutes to play it looked like Azoulay Yohan would be the deciding factor when he put Brøndby back on top with his second goal of the day. But FCK came back once again. In OT Alvaro Santos scored the 6th goal of the day to tie the game at 3-3.
Brøndby Game MVP: Thomas Kahlenberg (rating: 9)

Other results:
AB – Sønderjyske 4 -1
AaB – Frem 4 - 0
FC Nordsjæland – Esbjerg 1 – 1

In a press release the gowning body of Danish Football (DBU) confirm that they are in contact with Brøndby and Thomas Northwood regarding the possibility for Northwood taking over the Danish national team. After Denmark was knocked out already in the early stages of last years world championship in Germany
Thomas Northwood was earlier this month offered the job as manager for the American national team but turned down the job. This time around most commentators expect Northwood to take the job. He has an in-depth knowledge of Danish football and has shown that he can produce results after winning the national title for three years in a row with Brøndby.

In real life Real Madrid have just put in an offer for £48mil for Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Zlatan who was the man behind Juventus winning the Italian league this week will not go anywhere according to Juve.

I have a couple questions. What is your financial situation like? How difficult is it to get players to come to Brondby?

After our “success” in last years CL our transfer budget moved up from £1mil to £3.8mil. The problem is our boards view on wages. The highest paid player now is Martin Retov with a weekly wage of £15.200. Some of our key players will need new contract but we will likely have to let them go because we can only offer them £20.000.

We can get players from Scandinavia to sign with us but it’s almost impossible to get any established players from Europe to come to Denmark and play. We have to try to pick up prospects and hope they turn in to good players.

Champions League qual round 2, Leg 1:
SK Tirana – Brøndby 3-3 / (1-2)
Two minutes was all it took for Brøndby to get the first goal (scored by Morten Skoubo). After 17 minutes SK Tirana were awarded a penalty when Karim Zaza pushed another player inside the box and the score was back to level. Azoulay Yohan joined in 3 minutes later to make it 1-2 and that lasted until halftime. Once again Brøndby started out fast and got the 3rd goal of the day after 4 minutes in the second half. For some reason Brøndby then completely stopped playing football and SK Tirana took full advantage. They scored 2 goals in the last half hour of play and the game finished
3-3.

Headline: Draw for Champions League
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UEFA have completed the draw for the 3rd and final qualifying round to the Champions League. The winner from the SK Tirana – Brøndby match was also in the draw but none of the teams was seeded. That meant that an unlucky draw can put them up against teams as ManU, Valencia, Milan or Roma.

When the draw was finished Brøndby found them self drawn against Greek champions Panathinaikos AO.

We expect a comment on the draw from the Brøndby front office later today.

Headline: Comment on Champions league draw
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brøndbys manager Thomas Northwood today talked with the press about yesterdays Champions League (CL) draw. Northwood said that he was satisfied with the draft but it would take hard work to get past the Greek team. Panathinaikos AO have played in the group stage in the CL the last three years but never made it to the knock-out rounds.
Northwood also expressed his disappointment in the performance by the team in the first game against SK Tirana. He pointed out that it’s unforgivable to allow 3 goals in a CL game and that the team now has put themselves under an unnecessary pressure before the return game.

Headline: Leeds request for Moffa
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Leeds who just returned to the best English league this season have sent a request to Brøndby for Matteo Moffa. Brøndby picked up Moffa Padova back in 2005/6 for £1.2mil but he have had a troubled time in Denmark ever since. He have only started 6 games for the team and have been more known for his tendency to not show up for practise then his achievement of the field. He was been fined several times and currently finds himself in the Brøndby reserve team.

With the request from Leeds it’s expected that Brøndby will try to cut their losses and get rid of Moffa for any price

Brøndby – FC Nordsjæland 0-0 (0-0)

The first 45 minutes was totally dominated by Brøndby. They won the first half’s shot statistic 15-1 but were unable to get the ball over the line for the goal. After Brøndby turned down the price from £325.000 to £300.000, five clubs showed new interest in the player. If he is sold from Brøndby for that price the club will loss more then £1mil. Considering the problems Brøndby have had with the player and his lack of success, Brøndby will likely be willing to pay that price.

After buying Frank Lampard from Chelsea for £23mil and Cristiano Ronaldo from ManU for £20mil in the 05/06 season, Valencia once again takes out the wallet and spends big money in the transfer marked. This time they pick up forward Javier Ernesto Chevanton from Barcelona for the price of £32.5mil. The 26year old player from Uruguay has played in Barcelona for two seasons after arriving from Monaco for £10.25mil.
Spanish club Real Madrid also added a new player to the roster. Two weeks before the Spanish league kicks off manager Benito Floro spend £14.25mil on a new defensive midfielder. The signing is announced only hours after Zinedine Zidane tells the world press about his plans to retire after this season.

Thomas Kahlenberg is still a few days from being recovered from his shoulder injury. Therefore Brøndby has to make a few changes before today’s game. Jonas Kamper has complained about little playing time but will get his chance today as he takes over the AMC from Kahlenberg. That also gives Diego Cochas his first selection of the year. He will start on the bench.

Champions League qual round 3, Leg 1:
Brøndby - Panathinaikos AO FT 1-1 / ( HT 0-0)

Brøndby was the dominant team in the first half of the game. They had a total of 11 shots in the first half but only 5 of them was on target and most was from fare outside the arrear. In the other end of the field Karim Zaza only had one shot to look after in the first 45 minutes of play.
In the second half the audience of 27529 had to wait until the 75th minute for the first goal. Leon Andreasen sends a high ball in to the penalty arrear where Peter Graulund was held down. Penalty Brøndby. Dan Anton Johanson made no mistakes and put Brøndby up 1-0. Brøndby continued to press on to get the important second goal but the tactic backfired 10 minutes later. Panathinaikos AO took full advantage of one of Brøndbys weak spots, when they challenged Per Nielsen on speed. He was chanceless against Dimitriadis and he made no mistake one-on-one with Karim Zaza. 1-1.
Brøndby had a few more chances and won the shot-statistic 19-2 but the final result was 1-1.
Not a great result for Brøndby. They now have to travel to Greece and win (or draw 2-2 or more). This is of cause not impossible but Panathinaikos AO must be considered huge favourites after tonight’s result.
Brøndby Game MVP: Per Nielsen (rating: 8)
