Where did they come from? Where are they going? A TCY/FOF dynasty

Every time we play FOF, we go through the draft, a time of excitement, like unwrapping Christmas presents. What kind of players will be available? Will that strong DT drop to the 4th pick? Which ones will boom and which ones will bust? We don't often think about the history that lies behind each pick, and that's what this dynasty will trace. I will be following a single NFL draft class for one team, the Jacksonville Jaguars of 2009, and using TCY I will go back and follow all 7 of these players from their recruitment, through their playing days, and to the draft. I won't tell you in what round each was picked, part of the fun will be trying to figure that out. Once we've reached the draft I'll continue in FOF and see if these players have a future as well as a past.

2004 Season

Years may overlap since some players redshirted and others did not Also, to avoid having to save games for each week, I saved the recruiting years after weeks 6 and 10, as well as the end of the season, so there may be more recruitment details for some players than others.

Julio Douthit, 6'0" 180 lbs WR - Wilson H.S., Long Beach, CA

Julio is a top WR and is fielding calls from teams all over the country. He is ranked as the 32th best receiver in the country and the 4th best in California. His overall rank is #432 in the nation. He had an impressive year, in 9 games recording 56 catches for 1533 yards and 9 TDs, earning him All-State honors. He's a decent student and is interested in Kinesiology. His high school has low marks for athletic prep, but my very good scout marks him 83/100. By week 6 he has received scholarship offers from UCLA and Temple and is visiting UCLA. By week 10, to no one's surprise, he has committed to UCLA.

Mike Bradford, 6'1" 186 lbs QB - JW Sexton High, Lansing MI

One of the top recruits in the country, Mike is the 27th ranked quarterback in the land and the best in Michigan. His overall rank is #167. Mike is a dual threat QB who can air it out but loves to run. So far in 7 games he is 145-227 for 2468 yards, with 14 TDs and 4 INT. This is in addition to almost 1000 yards rushing and 7 rushing scores. An amazing athlete, he is being recruited by several schools and has already received scholarship offers from Iowa and Michigan State. By week 10, Bradford has made the easy decision to stay home and attend Michigan State.

John Barber, 6'5" 297 lbs OG - Pottsville Area High, Pottsville, PA

Barber is a blue-chip recruit, ranked #11 in the country, and the second best OG. He already has the dominant size to become one of the best big men in the country in college. He doesn't have much of a recruitment process, everyone is interested in him, but he idolizes Penn State and so that is where he quickly signs.

Terrell Washington, 5'10" 195 lbs OLB - Lin-Wood High, Lincoln, NH

Terrell is another top recruit like the other two players, the 21st ranked OLB in the country, and #368 overall. Our terrific scout puts him at 76/100 right now, and he's attracting major interest from the big schools. He has All-State honors this year. He can do it all on defense, in 9 games he has 93 tackles, 6 sacks, and 5 interceptions. So far he has received scholarship offers from Arizona State, Colorado, Florida, Mississippi, Oregon, Pitt, TCU, Utah, and Washington State. Quite the list to select from! Terrell surprises a lot of people when he commits to Utah.

Jeff Hammond, 6'2" 253 lbs OT - Thornton Township, Harvey, IL

Jeff is drawing a lot of attention as an athletic tackle whose strength is run blocking. He's the 38th best OT in the country and #353 overall, and is on the All-State team. Jeff is a good student and is adamant about attending a school with strong academic credentials. So far has has scholarship offers from Illinois, Northern Illinois, Utah and Northwestern, and is visiting Northwestern. Only 17 miles from his home and with a stellar academic rep, Northwestern seems to have the inside track. Hammond signs with Northwestern as expected.

Clifton Freestone, 6'0" 219 lbs DE - Morse High, San Diego, CA

Clifton has been dominant at DE this year, terrifying opposing quarterbacks and earning quite a reputation for himself. He is the 9th ranked DE in the country and #88 overall. This year he recorded 79 tackles, 18 sacks, and 2 interceptions. Clifton apparently had his chosen school in mind from the beginning, and signed papers with UCLA early on, where he will be teammates with Julio Douthit.

This is a simultaneous dynasty with my Average Joes one, it's a lot quicker since I'm not going through game by game, but the concept bit me and won't let go.

Cole Shields, 5'11" 166 lbs SS - Pleasantville High, Pleasantville, NY

Cole is the 37th ranked safety in the country and #803 overall. His stellar performance this year has earned him both All-State and All-Country awards, 72 tackles, 4 sacks, and 16 interceptions in 9 games. He's looking for a prestige school that's relatively close to home, and has received offers from Kentucky, MTSU, and UTEP. He's waiting for the big school offers that he's sure are soon to come. In the end though, he commits to Tulsa.

All of our other players redshirt their first year.

2006 season

Julio Douthit, WR - UCLA

As expected when playing for a large school, there is a lot of talent at the WR position, including Tracy Givens, one of the highest rated receivers in the country. Julio plays a little bit here and there, but he needs a lot more development towards his major upside. He is scouted at 24/100 this season, and gets only 6 catches for 81 yards. UCLA goes 8-4 overall but a disappointing 4-4 in conference play and only manages a minor bowl bid.

Mike Bradford, QB - Michigan State

Mike is playing behind excellent junior QB Jimmie Keaton this season, though he does get a few starts when Keaton goes out injured. All told he is 56-106 for 694 yards and 1 touchdown on the year. There is brutal competition on the Spartan squad for even backup QB, but Mike gets the nod because of his high upside, he is scouted 31/86 this year. Michigan State goes 8-4 this year, ending with a rout by Auburn in their post-season bowl.

John Barber, OG - Penn State

When you have a player of Barber's caliber on your roster, you put him in and you put him in fast. He starts all year at guard, and plays like a senior, with 42 key run blocks in 101 opportunities and allowing only one sack all year. John is named Big 10 First Team Guard! Quite an amazing accomplishment for a first-year player. He is scouted 53/80 this year. Penn State goes 10-2 this year, second in the Big 10, and ends the season by beating Virginia Tech in the Cotton Bowl.

Terrell Washington, OLB - Utah

Terrell gets the starting nod at WLB for Utah this year, and plays quite well. He ends the year with 58 tackles, 19 assists, 5 sacks, and 10 TFL. His performance is good enough to be named Mountain West 2nd team OLB. Terrell is going to be facing some stiff competition for starting time as Utah has several developing players at OLB. This season he was scouted 44/52. Utah finishes 8-4 and on top of the Mountain West, and loses in a close one against Georgia in the Rose Bowl.

Jeff Hammond, OT - Northwestern

Northwestern is, as usual, a horrible mess on the football field, finishing 1-10 this year. If Jeff wasn't so set on his education he'd probably be playing for a much better team. As it is he starts every game for the Wildcats, recording 23 blocks in 87 chances. He's currently scouted at 37/75 and so has plenty of room to improve.

Clifton Freestone, DE - UCLA

Clifton can't crack the starting lineup, but both veteran DEs graduate after this year. In spot play, he records 12 tackles, 4 assists and 2 sacks. He is scouted 21/60 right now so it remains to be seen how he will develop. UCLA goes 8-4 overall but a disappointing 4-4 in conference play and only manages a minor bowl bid.

Cole Shields, SS - Tulsa

Cole does not redshirt, as Tulsa is short on safety talent this year. Despite being very raw (scouted 18/69) he gets the start as the team doesn't have anyone better. Cole wows everyone with his performance this year, racking up 50 tackles, 17 assists, a sack, and an impressive 8 interceptions, 2 run back for scores. He is named WAC Top Defensive Freshman! Tulsa has a good year this year, going 7-4 and finishing 4th in the WAC.

2007 Season

Julio Douthit, WR - UCLA

UCLA's receiver talent is a thing of beauty this season, with 4 players with potentials of 85+. Julio develops nicely this year as he gets some playing time, and is now scouted at 35/100. He starts in 9 games this year and is reasonably productive, with 41 catches for 600 yards and an impressive 7 TDs. He definitely has a knack for getting into the endzone. UCLA really falls apart this year, and finishes at 4-7. This includes getting routed 66-7 by Cal and getting shut out by USC, a dismal year for the Bruins, certainly.

Mike Bradford, QB - Michigan State

Mike is still following Jimmie Keaton, who is the Conference MVP this year, so he gets little playing time. Fortunately Keaton graduates this year. Mike's puny stats on the year are 12-13 for 172 yards and 2 TDs. He is developing nicely however, and is now scouted at 41/86. He should definitely start for the Spartans next season. Powered by Keaton's arm, Michigan State goes 10-2 this year, tops in the Big 10, and tops it off with a Rose Bowl win over Air Force

John Barber, OG - Penn State

John truly comes into his own this season, in amazing form. He starts all 12 games and finishes with 44 blocks in 114 opportunities, once again named Big 10 1st Team Guard. He seems fully developed already, and is now scouted 88/88, and has bulked up to 321 pounds. Penn State finishes 9-3 and a disappointing 5th in the Big 10. They demolish Maryland in the Cotton Bowl.

Terrell Washington, OLB - Utah

Terrell is again named Utah's starting WLB, and plays 9 games until a high ankle sprain ends his season. He records 49 tackles, 14 assists, a sack, and 9 TFL which is once again good enough for Mountain West 2nd Team OLB. He is facing a lot of quality competition at his position, and is scouted 50/52 this year. Utah falls to 5-6 on the year and next to last in the Mountain West, very disappointing after last year.

Jeff Hammond, OT - Northwestern

Hammond comes into his own this year, developing before everyone's eyes. He has 33 blocks in 95 attempts, an improvement over last season. He is now scouted at 67/76, so everyone is hoping for better things. Northwestern improves to 4-7 this year, which is definite progress.

Clifton Freestone, DE - UCLA

Clifton grabs a starting spot with both hands this year, though he has quite a bit of development to go, currently scouted 30/60. In 11 starts he records 26 tackles, 6 assists and 3 sacks. His coaches think he can do much better.

Cole Shields, SS - Tulsa

Cole once again starts at SS for Tulsa, standing out of an anonymous crowd at the position. His coaches are convinced he can become a gamebreaking player, he is scouted 34/70 this year. His role is changed this year, with an emphasis on stopping the run and not the ballhawking he enjoyed last year. His interceptions go from 8 to 1, but his tackles and assists go from 50-17 to 81-26. Clearly he is an adaptable player. Tulsa finishes 4-7 and 7th in the WAC.

2008 season

Our players enter their junior season and hope to make an impact.

Julio Douthit, WR - UCLA

Julio takes the next step in his development this year, starting again and improving his numbers. He has 51 catches for 935 yards and 6 touchdowns. UCLA recovers this season to go 8-4 and third in the Pac-10, ending their season with a bowl win over Colorado State.

Mike Bradford, QB - Michigan State

Mike does get the starting job for the Spartans this year, as expected, though injuries limit him to starting only 8 games. MSU is playing a run-first offense, so Mike plays a conservative, mistake free game, going 104-168 for 1265 yards, with 11 TDs versus 2 interceptions. He's slowly developing into his potential, scouted at 47/86. Mike led his team to an 8-4 season, 6-2 in the Big 10, good for second place. Michigan State lost to Maryland in the Cotton Bowl.

John Barber, OG - Penn State

John continues to step up his game, as one of the best guards in the country. He records 55 KRB in 128 chances, improving his percentage from the last two years. He has only allowed 2 sacks in 3 years as a starter. Not only does he garner the expected 1st Team Big 10 Guard, but he is named nationwide 2nd team Guard! He is scouted 85/85 this year, and helps Penn State to another 8-4 year and a bowl win against Utah.

Terrell Washington, OLB - Utah

Terrell has continued to develop into a fine player, and starts again this year. He has 44 tackles this year, 18 assists, 1.5 sacks, and 7 TFLs, as well as one interception. This is good enough for him to be named Mountain West 1st Team OLB. His scouting has improved to 61/61. Utah goes 7-5 this year and finishes second in the MW behind BYU. They lose to Penn State in their bowl bid.

Jeff Hammond, OT - Northwestern

Hammond continues to play at a high level this season, with 32 KRBs in 100 chances, though his 11 sacks allowed indicate that run blocking is his major talent. He is named Big 10 First Team Tackle! Northwestern improves again, finishing 5-6 this year.

Clifton Freestone, DE - UCLA

Wow! Clifton explodes this year, after the coaches help him improve his swim move, and they give him more opportunities to attack the quarterback. He records 15 sacks this season, as well as 46 tackles, 23 assists, and 20 TFL. What an incredible improvement over last year! He is named PAC-10 2nd Team DE! Clifton is scouted 48/60 right now, and fans and coaches are stunned by his amazing improvement.

Cole Shields, SS - Tulsa

Cole continues to be a dominant run stopper from the safety position, recording 91 tackles, 28 assists, a sack and an interception this year. He is scouted 55/70 this year. Cole's numbers were helped by Tulsa's collapse this year to 3-8, the defense was on the field a lot more often!

2009 season

Our players enter their senior year, trying to make an impact that will allow them to play on Sundays.

Julio Douthit, WR - UCLA

Julio develops into his full form this year, becoming the standout on a team of good receivers. His 56 catches for 1092 yards and 12 touchdowns are good enough for him to be named Pac 10 First Team WR! As he leaves college, he is scouted at 82/100 and will certainly be receiving NFL attention. UCLA remains at 8-4 this season, but falls to 5th in the Pac-10. They rout New Mexico in their postseason bowl.

Mike Bradford, QB - Michigan State

Bradford hasn't fully developed but has proved himself a capable quarterback, leading the Spartans with 207-323 for 2622 yards, and 30 TDs against 12 interceptions. He is scouted at 50/86 at the end of the year, and hopes to be hearing from an NFL team. Michigan State goes 9-3 and finishes 3rd in the Big 10.

John Barber, OG - Penn State

With so much expected of him in his senior year, John just did not produce as well. He managed only 28 KRB in 110 attempts, far off his performances of the last three years. He is named Big 10 2nd Team OG but this is far from what he wanted to accomplish this year. He will be drafted in the NFL, that much is certain, but has his senior year cost him? Penn State finished 9-3 and fourth in the Big 10.

Terrell Washington, OLB - Utah

Terrell's performance also fell off in his senior year, and ended in a torn knee ligament knocking him out at the end of the season. He had 32 tackles and 26 assists with 5 TFLs this year, but it was definitely a step back for him. He is scouted 63/63. Utah finished 8-4, good for third in the Mountain West.

Jeff Hammond, OT - Northwestern

Jeff suffered this year from a less active running game by Northwestern, but his blocking percentage was his best ever, 26 blocks in 61 chances. He is currently scouted 75/77, and is sure to be drafted. Northwestern finished 5-6 on the year.

Clifton Freestone, DE - UCLA

No one is sure what to expect of Clifton after last year's explosion, he has a solid year but a bit down from his 2008 numbers. He ends up with 37 tackles, 18 assists and 9 sacks, with 13 TFL. Currently scouted 71/71, he is a highly in-demand DE going into the draft and should be picked fairly early.

Cole Shields, SS - Tulsa

Cole is able to reverse the trend of our players slumping from their junior year, stepping up his game and getting national attention. He finishes with 84 tackles, 30 assists, 10 TFL, and 6 interceptions, including 3 run back for scores. He also returned punts and kicks this season for touchdowns. For his lightning performance he gets several trophies, named WAC 1st Team Safety, as well as National 1st Team Safety and National All-Senior Safety! He couldn't have asked for a better performance going into the draft. He is scouted as 72/72. Tulsa finished 6-5 and 5th in the WAC.

On to the NFL draft!

Reading and enjoying... in fact, I'm almost inspired to do an EHM dynasty following all the draft picks of one team in a given year.

2009 NFL season - draft

All of our players are drafted by the Jaguars, of course. The Jags have the 5th pick. A note about Jacksonville, they finished 7-9 last year, but received the #5 pick due to weird circumstances, there just weren't that many bad teams! The AFC South was very tight last year and with some good play the Jags have a chance to compete for the title. They won the division title in 2007 with a 10-6 record.

1st round - Clifton Freestone, LDE

Clifton is an impressive looking prospect. A 4.88 second dash, 27 test and microscopic 5 volatility, as well as his 38/61 scout report, make him an easy pick. He looks strong in run defense and pass rushing, but not so much diagnosis or hitting.

2nd round - John Barber, RG

Barber is too impressive a guard to pass up in the second round. He is scouted 17/65, has 31 bench reps and a 4.93 dash. Run blocking seems to be his primary skill.

3rd round - Mike Bradford, QB

If Mike pans out to his scouting report, he could be a very good QB. Very high test results, low volatility and a 4.54 second dash are all good things. He's scouted 18/68.

4th round - Julio Douthit, SE

Julio's 4.39 dash is very impressive at the combine, and he looks like a good big-play receiver. He's scouted 28/53.

5th round - Jeff Hammond, RT

Jeff looks like he has some solid run-blocking skills. He's scouted 18/48.

6th round - Cole Shields, SS

Cole is fast, and looks like he'd primary fit in a zone or bump-and-run, with strong play diagnosi. Cole is scouted 24/49.

7th round - Terrell Washington, SLB

Terrell is scouted 17/46, and has very low ability. His skills seem balanced across the board, so he could develop into a reliable player.

2009 - Post Training Camp

John Barber has still not signed a contract, the other players are ready to go.

Clifton Freestone - His strengths are run defense (48/86) and pass rush strength (83). His overall scoutingis 41-61, and he should start at DE immediately for the Jaguars.

John Barber - John Barber signed during the pre-season. He's scouted 17-64 and could be a dominant run blocker.

Mike Bradford - Mike looks promising, scouting at 21/61 with a lot of potential across the board, but unfortunately he is behind the excellent Byron Leftwich at QB. My prediction is one of them will have to leave before Mike sees significant playing time. Of course he can use a couple of years for development.

Julio Douthit - Julio will catch some passes this year, but he is the junior (and least good) of the teams four receivers. At least Leftwich throws the ball a lot. Julio is scouted 32/57 and has a 96 big play rating.

Jeff Hammond - Jeff will be a backup at RT. He is scouted 21/44 and looks like he has some run blocking talent, but is not the complete package.

Cole Shields
- Cole is scouted 26/48 and is currently on the inactive list. Interceptions and bump and run are his best skills but he is playing behind some solid talent.

Terrell Washington - Terrell is scouted 18/43 but is very average across the board. He has potential but will never be very good in any area. He'll be a backup this season.

I've found this dynasty is a lot of fun if you don't read it in order. For example, I read all of the Julio Douthit info first. Now I'll go back and do someone else. I like it.

2009 regular season

Jacksonville cruised to an 11-5 season behind the dominant play of Leftwich, who racked up 4165 yards, 33 TDs and 7 INTs. The Jaguars powered through the playoffs but lost to Green Bay in the Super Bowl, 20-10.

Clifton Freestone Clifton was put into the starting spot at LDE and played well, though he had trouble getting to the quarterback as often as the coach would have liked. His totals for 16 starts were 26 tackles, 14 assists and 1 sack, though he did have 7 blocked passes and 9 hurries.

John Barber Surprisingly, Barber spent much of the year on the inactive list. He played in 4 games and started one, but didn't manage a single KRB all year.

Mike Bradford Bradford rode the bench all year, as was expected. He threw one pass, a 14 yard completion.

Julio Douthit - Julio as expected played in three and four WR sets for the most part, and put up reasonable numbers - 26 catches for 490 yards and 3 TDs. He also returned kicks and punts and had a return run back for a score this year in each category.

Jeff Hammond Hammond battled injuries all year and was deactivated for many games. In 3 games and one start he had 3 KRBs in 4 chances.

Cole Shields Cole was inactive for about half the season, then was traded to the Minnesota Vikings as part of a larger trade package. He played in 6 games for them and had 4 tackles, an assist, and an interception. Cole is playing behind two good young safeties on the Vikes and will have to improve a lot.

Terrell Washington Terrell does not look like a very promising player. He played sparingly in 12 games and recorded 4 tackles and an assist.

2010 Season Start

Clifton Freestone, DE - Jaguars Clifton is scouted at 52/61 and has filled in a lot of his potential. He will start again at DE and the coaches are hoping for big things from him this year.

John Barber, G - Jaguars John is scouted at 20/64 to start the year and will probably start at guard. The Jags are a bit thin at the position right now and John could become a very good player.

Mike Bradford - Broncos Mike was dealt to the Broncos in the offseason, which was a great move for his career since sitting behind Leftwich was a way of gathering dust. Mike is scouted at 31/56 and is slated to start for Denver this season!

Julio Douthit, WR - Jaguars Julio is currently scouted 32/59 and will probably play a bigger part in the receiving corps this year thanks to the loss of WRs to free agency. He is slated to be their starting split end this year.

Jeff Hammond, T - Jaguars Jeff is scouted at 23/42 to start the year and despite his good run blocking skills will remain a backup this year.

Cole Shields, SS - Vikings Cole is scouted at 28/47 and will start the season on the inactive list. It's his bad luck that the Vikings other safeties are 63/65, 45/45, and 42/53.

Terrell Washington, OLB - Jaguars Terrell is scouted at 20/41 and seems very average across the board, however he should see some spot play as a backup.

2010 Regular Season

Jacksonville dropped to 8-8 this season and finished third in the AFC South. Their passing defense was the main culprit as they were unable to close down opposing passing games. Green Bay repeated as Super Bowl champions, beating San Diego 14-6.

Clifton Freestone - Jaguars Clifton lost 2 games to injuries, but in the rest he played well, improving his numbers across the board slightly. He had 33 tackles, 18 assists, and 3 sacks, as well as 8 blocks and 16 hurries. Run defense remains his best ability, and he gets to the quarterback through strength, not technique.

John Barber - Jaguars John started every game until he injured his patellar tendon and missed the last three. His play could use improvement, as he had only 4 KRBs in 32 chances and allowed 10 sacks, by far the worst on the Jag O-line in both categories. He will apparently need more seasoning to be effective.

Mike Bradford - Broncos Mike started every game for the Broncos and was overjoyed to get into a starting spot so quickly. He had a pretty good first year, throwing 295-518 for 3368 yards, with 18 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Mike was named player of the game 6 times. Denver finished 7-9 this season.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars Julio had a much improved year, starting 4 games and playing in all 16, and most importantly, led the Jaguars in receiving yards! Leftwich has several targets so none of them put up huge numbers. Julio had 50 catches for 878 yards and 8 touchdowns. He also returned punts and kicks. He is turning into a solid NFL receiver, especially with his big play abilities. He was changed to flanker position this year.

Jeff Hammond - Jaguars Jeff played sparingly in 4 games, recording 2 out of 4 blocks, before he was cut by the Jaguars. He was not re-signed by anyone before the end of the season.

Cole Shields - Vikings Cole spent most of the season on the inactive list, though he did start in one game and played in 2 overall. He had 3 tackles and 2 assists in very limited play. Minnesota went 7-9 this year.

Terrell Washington - Jaguars Terrell played in 8 games in very limited duty, and recorded 3 tackles, before he was cut by the Jaguars in mid-season. He was not re-signed by anyone before the end of the season.

Interesting that in 2 seasons, 4 of the Jaguars 2009 draft class aren't with the team anymore.

Clifton Freestone - Jaguars Clifton is looking like a fully developed player as he is scouted at 58/60. He will remain the Jaguars starting LDE.

John Barber - Jaguars Barber remains the Jaguars starting RG, and is scouted at 29/62. Hopefully he can improve his numbers over his terrible last 2010 campaign.

Mike Bradford - Steelers Mike was cut by the Broncos in the offseason, it looks like they wanted someone different at QB. That someone turned out to be Eli Manning, the Giant's ace, who Denver signed to a three year deal. Mike was signed by the Steelers to a one-year half-million dollar deal as a backup. He is currently scouted as 44/52.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars Julio is scouted at 48/61 and remains the Jaguars starting flanker. He's developing amazingly well!

Jeff Hammond Hammond is scouted 23/38, but remains an unsigned free agent at the start of the year.

Cole Shields - Vikings Thanks to losses in free agency, Cole may see some starting time at SS for the Vikings. He is scouted at 28/46 right now.

Terrell Washington Terrell is scouted at 20/38, and is an unsigned free agent.

Jacksonville recovers their form this season and goes 11-5 and wins their division before losing to Cleveland in the playoffs. Denver with their new QB goes 15-1, then cruises through the playoffs to win the Super Bowl over San Francisco, 17-10.

Clifton Freestone - Jaguars Clifton is hampered by injuries this year and misses 4 games. In the remaining 12 he totals 27 tackles, 8 assists, and 2 sacks, as well as 4 blocks and 14 hurries.

John Barber - Jaguars John starts every game this year and shows a major improvement over last year. He has 18 blocks in 72 chances, doubling last years percentage, and allows 7 sacks.

Mike Bradford - Broncos Mike rides the bench all year and doesn't throw a pass. Pittsburgh goes 12-4 and makes it to the AFC championship game.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars Julio starts every game and finishes with 65 catches for 950 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Jeff Hammond - Jaguars Jeff is not re-signed this year.

Cole Shields - Vikings Cole plays in 7 games and starts 5 this year before he is released. He had 16 tackles and 6 assists. Minnesota finishes 10-6 and makes the playoffs.

Terrell Washington - Jaguars Terrell is not re-signed by anyone this year.

Clifton Freestone - Jaguars Clifton is scouted at 57/60 and will start at DE again.

John Barber - Jaguars John re-signed with the Jaguars for a 4 year, $5.88 million contract. John has developed more and is scouted at 44/61, he will start again.

Mike Bradford - Steelers The Steelers like Mike as a backup, so they sign him again for 2 years and $3.7 million. He is scouted at 48/51.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars Julio was a free agent this year, and cashed in by re-signing with Jacksonville for a 3 year, $20 million contract. He is now scouted at 62/63 and will be the Jags starting flanker.

Jeff Hammond Jeff is still an unsigned free agent.

Cole Shields - Eagles Cole signed a one year, $770K deal with the Eagles. He is scouted as 32/46 and will be a backup safety.

Terrell Washington Terrell gave up trying to stay in the NFL and retired.

Clifton Freestone - Jaguars Clifton is scouted 57/61 and will start as usual.

John Barber - Jaguars John has now fully reached his potential and is scouted 60/61. He will start as usual.

Mike Bradford Mike was released from the Steelers in the offseason. He's scouted at 45/48.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars Julio continues to get better, he is scouted 65/65 this year, and will start as usual.

Jeff Hammond Jeff hasn't played since 2010 but he refuses to retire, trying to make phone calls each year to get signed somewhere. I don't think it's going to happen.

Cole Shields Cole was released in the offseason by the Eagles. He is scouted 36/46 and is trying to get signed on with someone for this year.

Jacksonville fell back to 8-8 this year, a disappointing finish for them. The Jets blanked Seattle in the Super Bowl, 27-0.

Clifton Freestone - Jaguars Clifton was able to avoid the injury bug this year and start all 16 games. He had his best season yet, with 41 tackles, 15 assists, and 6.5 sacks, as well as 6 blocks and 7 hurries.

John Barber - Jaguars John started every game this year and is still playing at a high level. 34 KRBs and a 32.3 percentage, and gave up 5 sacks.

Mike Bradford - Vikings Mike signed a one year deal with the Vikings as a backup but didn't get to play at all this year. Disappointing.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars This year, Julio had the breakout year he has been threatening to have. With the offense focused more around throwing to him, he caught 95 passes for 1429 yards and 11 touchdowns. He is becoming one of the best WRs in the league and finished 4th in receiving and second in TDs. Julio was named All-League Second Team WR!

Jeff Hammond Jeff didn't play again this year.

Cole Shields Cole remained a free agent and went unsigned this year.

Clifton Freestone - Jaguars Clifton is scouted 58/61 and will continue to start.

John Barber - Jaguars John remains scouted at 60/60 and will start.

Mike Bradford Mike starts the year as a free agent.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars After last year's performance, Julio's agent pushes hard for a big new contract, and gets it. He is signed to a 4 year, over $65 million contract! He is now the highest paid player on the team. Julio is still rated 65/65 and will start. The Jaguars don't have Peyton Manning throwing anymore though, so we'll see what kind of season he has.

Jeff Hammond Jeff refuses to retire, even though the market for players who have been off the field for 3 seasons is slim.

Cole Shields Unfortunately, Cole doesn't have Jeff's determination. After going unsigned all last year Cole decided to hang it up and go back to non-athletic life.

Jacksonville finishes 8-8, but their division is so weak that that's good enough to win it. Despite their weak start, they gain momentum through the playoffs, and end up winning the Super Bowl 31-17 over Carolina. The three of our players that are left with the Jaguars have championship rings!

Clifton Freestone - Jaguars Clifton starts all 16 games and has his best year yet, by far. He finishes with 54 tackles, 17 assists, and 9 sacks!

John Barber - Jaguars John starts most of the year, though a broken fibula costs him the last game. He finishes with 25 KRB and a 33.7 percentage, his best ever, though he does allow 6 sacks.

Mike Bradford Mike goes unsigned all year, and is starting to wonder if his career is over, after showing so much promise.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars Julio starts 15 games this year, but misses one with injury. He puts up respectable numbers, though not as good as last year's. 84 catches for 1243 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Jeff Hammond Jeff remains unsigned.

Our players now enter their 7th season. Three of them have become established starters on a Super Bowl winning team. The other 4 are lost to the winds of the NFL, all retired now.

Clifton Freestone - Jaguars Clifton is scouted at 58/61 and is ready to start the year.

John Barber - Jaguars John signed a 4 year, $18.2 million contract with the Jaguars in the offseason. He is scouted at 60/60.

Mike Bradford Mike took stock of his career and decided to hang up the spikes. He will become a real estate agent.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars Julio is scouted 65/65, and begins the season troubled with a minor rotator cuff injury.

Jeff Hammond Jeff finally admitted reality and officially retired from the NFL.

You're making me want to load up TCY.

That likely means that TCY2 will come out shortly after I get into a career.

Jacksonville finished the year 10-6, but loses their first playoff game to Kansas City. New Orleans beats Buffalo 29-26 in the Super Bowl. However, it was a horribly injury plagued year for our players

Clifton Freestone - Jaguars Clifton suffered a major knee injury when playing in Exhibition game 3. He missed the entire season, and there are significant concerns that he will never be back the way he was.

John Barber - Jaguars John was injury hampered this year, but managed 11 starts, for 20 KRBs and a 31.2 percentage, allowing 5 sacks.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars Julio is hammered by various injuries this season, broken ribs, severe knee sprain, and others limit him to just 2 starts this season, and he is ineffective in those. He finishes the year with just 4 catches, but gets 98 yards and a TD from them at least. Let's hope his capabilities haven't been affected by the injuries.

Clifton Freestone - Jaguars It was suspected after his horrible injury last year, and it was true. Clifton is a shadow of his former self, losing most of his run blocking ability. He is scouted 30/32 this year, down from 58/61 last year. He is cut by the Jaguars before the season starts, and will have to hope he can get on some other team.

John Barber - Jaguars John remains as strong as ever, scouted 60/60, and hopes to avoid injuries this season.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars Julio is still scouted 64/64, so his injuries didn't hurt him, however he wants to avoid them this year and get back on track.

Jacksonville finishes 10-6, second in the division but enough to snag a wild card. Unfortunately they lost to Buffalo in their first game. New Orleans beat Tennessee 35-27 to take their second straight Super Bowl behind the amazing arm of QB Tim Murphy.

Clifton Freestone Clifton, as expected, was not re-signed this year. His scouting reports are even worse now, and everyone expects that he will retire.

John Barber - Jaguars John started 15 games this season, and had a good one. 34 KRBs with a 34.3 percentage, not bad at all.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars Julio returns from his injuries healthy and starts all 16 games. Unfortunately the team has a new QB and a new run-first emphasis, so he is used sparingly. Also he doesn't seem to have quite the big-play pop he used to. He catches 69 catches for 714 yards and 3 TDs. His 10.3 avg per catch is by far the lowest of his career.

Our two remaining players begin their 9th season. Neither shows much sign of slowing down yet.

Clifton Freestone Clifton retired due to injury as many expected.

John Barber - Jaguars John is scouted at 59/60 and is ready to go.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars Julio is scouted at 64/64 and is ready for another season.

2017 Regular Season

Jacksonville turns in a disappointing 7-9 season. New Orleans remains dominant at 14-2 but it is Kansas City that wins the Super Bowl, beating New York 27-20.

John Barber - Jaguars John is having a fine season until game 5, when his knee gives out on him badly. It's reconstructive surgery, and it takes him out for the season. Before he left he had 10 KRBs and a 31.2 percentage.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars Julio turns in another decent but not great year, catching 61 balls for 892 yards and 7 TDs with the veteran Tom Brady throwing to him this year.

John Barber - Jaguars John was very fortunate. He came through the surgery and rehab with his skills essentially intact. Going into his 10th season he is scouted at 59/59.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars Julio signed a new contract before the season, 3 years, $32.5 million. Now let's see if he can back up the money with his playing.

2018 Regular Season

Jacksonville goes 10-5-1 to get them the wild card nod again, but loses to Tennessee in the playoffs. New Orleans triumphs over the Jets in the Super Bowl, 28-17! New Orleans QB Tim Murphy is rewriting the record books with year after year of incredible performances, and he now has 3 Super Bowl rings in 8 years of play.

John Barber - Jaguars John suffers through several injuries this year, including a sprained knee, and only manages 8 starts. He gets 16 KRBs and a 38 percentage.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars Julio gets 14 starts this year, though bothered on and off with minor injuries. He rebounds from his past two weak years to have a good one, with 83 catches for 1206 yards, and 8 touchdowns.

It's the 11th season for our remaining players, and most of their former Jags teammates are gone now.

John Barber - Jaguars John is scouted 52/53 and has clearly lost some playing ability because of his frequent injuries. Hopefully he can rebound and have another good year.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars Julio boasts that last year was just him getting started. He is still scouted 64/64 and doesn't seem to have lost a step.

2019 Regular Season

Jacksonville finished 10-6 and on top of their division. They made it all the way to the Super Bowl before losing to Washington, 17-14.

John Barber - Jaguars John was able to make 14 starts before a bad elbow took him out. He had a career year, with 36/101 KRBs for a 35.6 percentage.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars Julio was quite right with his proclamation, it turns out. He had his best season since 2013 this year, grabbing 92 catches for 1366 yards and 8 touchdowns.

I'm enjoying this one too, though it's almost over I think.

2020 Season Start

John Barber - Jaguars John is scouted 52/53 and is anxious to begin another campaign. Unfortunately Jacksonville cuts him without warning in the offseason! Surprised as he is, John gets on the phone with some teams and soon signs a 3 year, $12.85 million contract with Dallas.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars Unfortunately Julio suffered a torn quadriceps in the AFC championship game, and he is still feeling the effects and may miss several games this year. He is scouted 60/60 and just as fiesty as ever.

Jacksonville fields another strong team this year, finishing 12-4 in the regular season. They continue to play well through the postseason and finally win the Super Bowl against Tampa Bay, 20-17. Too bad John won't get to have his second championship ring!

John Barber - Cowboys John started 11 games for the Cowboys, losing the rest to injury. He played well, recording 29 KRB and a 40.2 percentage.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars Julio isn't much help to this year's championship team. He started in two games, playing with his injured quadriceps, before re-injuring it and losing the rest of the season. He only managed 3 catches for 27 yards this year.

What will happen next to our two injured warriors?

John Barber - Cowboys John is entering his 13th season. He is scouted 49/52. Unfortunately he is released by the Cowboys before the season starts. Luckily he is able to sign a one-year deal with Tennessee.

Julio Douthit - Jaguars The time has come, the injuries are just getting too many, and with a second Super Bowl ring in hand, Julio says it's time to retire. His career totals were 684 receptions for 10,040 yards and 71 TDs.

John Barber - Titans

Tennessee is consistently one of the worst teams in the league, and they finish 5-11 this year. John gets 12 starts this year, the injuries take the rest. He gets 23 KRB out of 75 chances for a 30.6 percentage, and also gets something he's never had before, a Player of the Game award, very difficult to get for an offensive lineman!

John Barber - Titans

Cut once again, he signs a two year deal with Cincinnati that will pay him $9.6 million. It's hard to pass up the money and he loves playing, so he enters his 14th season. He still scouts 50/50 and is ready to play.

2022 Regular Season

Dallas beats Miami 30-14 to win the Super Bowl. Cincinnati goes 8-8 this year. John manages to start 14 games this season and records 32 KRB with a 31.6 percentage, despite his age, he is a warrior.

John is cut from the Bengals, but he gladly re-signs with Indianapolis for a 2 year, $8.2 million deal. He's making out like a bandit from the signing bonuses in his last years. He is now scouted at 48/49, and has lost a step or two, but is still a solid body in the offensive line.

2023 Regular Season

Indy finishes 8-8 this year. St. Louis beats Oakland 17-10 for the Super Bowl. John fights off injuries to start 14 games for the Colts, putting up 27 KRB and a 35.5 percentage.

John is cut from the Colts after the season ends, and finds himself for the first time without a team this year. The market for 16 year veteran guards is not what it used to be.

2024 Regular Season

John continues his tour of the league when he is signed by the Jets as a late year replacement, on a one year deal. He starts 4 games at the end of the year, recording 6 KRB in 15 attempts. The Jets finish 9-7 and sneak into the wild card spot, but lose after winning one game. Buffalo defeats Arizona 13-6 for the Super Bowl title.

John thinks he can go another season, his 17th, so he doesn't retire! He is one of only 9 players in their 17th or greater season still on a roster, this year it's the Chiefs. He is scouted 44/47, well off his prime, but plenty good for a replacement or to fill a hole.

2025 Regular Season

Denver beats St. Louis in the Super Bowl, 20-19. Kansas City finished 5-11. John played in 6 games for the Chiefs, but in just a handful of plays, and never recorded a block before he was released.

John knows the time has come, and he announces his retirement. He finishes his career with 342 key run blocks, a 32.9% blocking percentage for his career and a career block percentage of 21.6.
