Bridge Creek Boy, 6, Uses 911 To Save Mother
TUTTLE, Okla.
Police said a 6-year-old boy in the Bridge Creek area and a Tuttle 911 dispatcher worked together over the phone to save the boy's mother. Tuttle police said Alexis Babbitt was injured after a large piece of furniture fell on her. Police said Babbitt dialed 911, but she passed out just as dispatcher Sharon Mitchell was paging emergency medical services personnel. Police said Babbitt's son, Cody, picked up the phone and talked to Mitchell, who calmly gave the boy instructions. Dispatch: OK. You there, hun? Cody: Yeah. Dispatch: OK. Is your mom there? Cody: Yes Dispatch: How is she doing? Is she talking to you? Cody: No. The boy told the dispatcher that his mother had passed out. Cody: She's just being here. She's just being quiet. Dispatch: She's just being quiet? OK. Are her eyes closed or open? Cody: Uh, closed. Cody’s mother later said she must have grabbed a hold of her entertainment center upon passing out, and it fell on top of her. Dispatch: Is there anybody else there with you besides your mom? Cody: Nope. There's just me. Dispatch; OK. Is she laying on her stomach or on her back? Cody: On her side. Dispatch: On her side. OK. And she's not talking to you anymore? Cody: Her arm is shaking. Dispatch: Her arm is shaking? The dispatcher said Kody was calm and in control throughout the whole ordeal, waiting for paramedics to arrive. “I asked him if he understood he saved mommy’s life, and he said, ‘I did?’ And I said, ‘Yes, you saved mommy’s life.’ He was very excited, very much a hero for what he did,” Babbitt said. She’s now home and doing well, recovering from bumps and bruises. Officers said the two made sure the front door was unlocked, checked Babbitt's breathing, found out where the boy's father was and verified how to get to the house. Police said the information helped get the rescuers to the scene more quickly. |
