The 1950 Jacksonville Jaguars (PFS Dynasty)*file corrupted*

Seeing as how there have been no Pro Football Simulator dynasties on here, I figure I would take the plunge and attempt to start one. This is my first attempt to really delve into PFS, but since the latest update, this game is generating some really good stats and game play. Wish me luck.

The league will be starting during the 1950 Pre Season. Though I realize that there were only 12 teams in the league then, I am going to expand things with a 32 team, 16 game league with Sudden Death Overtime (no ties). Each team will have a 53 man roster with 4 players on the practice squad. There will be a mixture of "real" NFL players from that period and fictional players. I am hoping within 10 years or so, that all players will be actual NFL players from the respective years (hopefully). There will be no house rules as of now. As I go along, I may have to implement some.

Here are our Offensive Players for the 1950 Jacksonville Jaguars. Please note that I am showing the Overall Rating. There are a bunch of others (Speed, Intelligence, Arm Strength, etc.) but wont be showing these for the sake of brevity. If there are any requests, I can show these for selected players. One thing I forgot to add is the Salary Cap will be $115 million.

QB:

I promise I did not arrange for the best QB during the 1950 season on my team. Truth be told, I also had Norm Van Brocklin as well (OVR 92), But I did the right thing and got rid of him. If Tittle gets hurt, we are screwed, so I will try to ensure his survival with a lot of shotgun formations and quick passes.

RB/FB:

Ferrer gets the starts, but Hill is so close in ability level, I think I will do a RB by committee this year. Will be looking to upgrade this position next year though. FB Perez gets the nod as well.

WR/TE:

Starters will Be Jacobson and Lovell for the WR and Ortega for the TE. Very solid receiving corps. Will be running lots of Spread formations and 2 TE sets. This crew and Tittle should be quite prolific. They will need to be considering how terrible my defense will be. More to follow on that though.

C/G/T:

Starters are in Yellow. Pretty Strong up the middle, but my bookends are quite weak. Will be upgrading my tackles. Will run behind my Guards.

All in all, I like the balance of my offense. We will definitely have to win with a prolific passing game. I am thinking Tittle will do quite well.

And the 1950 Jacksonville Jaguars Defensive roster. Will be forced to run a base 4-3 defense. Wont do much blitzing. Lots of Cover 2. Some pretty ugly stuff here:

DE/DT:

Some good players on the edges. But the DT's are an abomination. We are going to give up a ton of rushing yards. You will see why next.

LB:

Ugh. Utter devastation. Upgrading this pile of trash will be my main priority in the draft. Going to be an interesting time seeing how we can compete with these clowns.

CB/SS/FS:

Decent starters at the Safety position. CB's are trash. Another position needing upgrade.

P/K:

Nothing special here. Will be looking for upgrades.

So there are your 1950 Jacksonville Jaguars. Should be interesting to see how things go.

Training camp results:

Not sure what the numbers mean, but I suspect that Hooker, for instance, Saw a 44 point increased in all of his attributes. One of the cool things in this game is over a career, you can see how a player's ratings progress over a career in a graph. So Hooker's graph from before training camp until now looks like this:

No one on the Jaguars had a reduction in skills, but this is normally not the case. I have seen cases of 70+ point drop during training camp. Usually due to aging, from what I can see.

Playing mostly my backup players, The Jags start the preseason on a high not with a win. QB Y.A. Tittle did not play, so 2nd-string QB Genaro Denny had a pretty efficient day going 16/26 140yds 1TD 0INT. Our defense was pretty opportunistic with 3 turnovers (2INT’s and 1 FUM), with Backup FS Jaime Harrington, returning one of the INT’s for a 46yd TD. Other things of note, 3rd DE Keith Free was a one-man wrecking crew with 7 tackles, 2 forced fumbles and a sack. Backup LB Theo Pettit had 12 tackles and 1 TFL. On the negative side, our defense gave up far too many yards on the ground (Titans has 32 rushes for 185 yards) and our team was penalized 7 times for 40 yards.

Injuries – Luckily, there were no injuries.

With my starters playing most of the game, we are defeated. Pretty disheartening especially since the Vikings played their backups. QB Y.A. Tittle played nicely, but did have an interception that went for a 28yd TD return. On the positive end, I like that we averaged over 8 yards per carry on the ground. Also, RT Winston Berman played a dominant game with 5 pancake blocks. A lot more things went bad in this game. Too many penalties, 2 missed extra points and too many yards given up on the ground sunk us this week. Next week will be pivotal to show improvement because our starters will play the entire game. Hope we will see some improvement.

Injuries - 2nd string TE Robbie Hodgson is Out 12-16 weeks with a torn Hamstring. This hurts, because this will limit our potentially potent 2 TE attack. Not going to IR him, but we do sign TE Walter Cisneros (OVR 39) to a free agent contract.

I am suprised we were able to eek this one out. We have 3 more turnovers, yet was able to pull this out. QB Y.A. Tittle had an up and down game (24/36 240yds 2TD 2INT) in the air, but helped himself while scrambling (7att/49yds). I really like our rushing attack. Having 2 good backs (Robert Ferrer 6car/33yds and Michael Hill (9car/75yds/1TD) and a good scrambling QB should be able to help open up our passing game during the season. Some more positives are My top 3 WR's (Bernard Jacobson 8cat/57yds, Terry Lovell 7cat/77yds and Rayford Thomson 5cat/72yds/1TD) did some really good things and I am really curious to see how they do this year. Would love to see the three of them combine for 2,500+ yards receiving.

On the negative side, it looks like we will have a turnover problem all season long. I hate HB's that fumble and HB Michael Hill has had 3 of them during the preseason. Also, as predicted, we can't stop the run and really good running teams will grind us down. Lastly, we are a tad bit too undisciplined with penalties. One more preseason game to go. Hope we stay healthy.

Well not much can be said about this blow out. Cincinnati's backups are better than our back ups. The only good I see in this game is backup CB Joseph Gardener's huge game (6 tack, 2 int, 3 pass def). Other than that, this was a bad game. Time to move onto the season.

Another nice little feature of this game is a matchup preview for that week's opponent. Nothing here due to this being the first game of the season, but I will be showing this prior to each week's game.

Our first 4 games of the year are on the road, so we have to get out to a good start. We played the Vikings during the 2nd preseason game and they beat us 33-19. Time for a little revenge. The Vikings are led by HB Fred Williford (OVR 86) and they run their offense strictly through him. He has been designated as their primary receiver as well, so if we bottle him up, we should have a good chance of beating them.

This game was a tale of two halves. In the first half, we struggled with 2 int's and a fumble. In the second half, we were able to get some continuity and establish our running game. Our offensive line was the story of the game. Not only did they not give up a sack, the line dominated the defensive front seven of the Vikings (15 pancake blocks). This domination allowed our running game to pile up a bunch of yards and control the clock, especially in the second half. QB Y.A. Tittle struggled mightily this game (21/40 198yds 1TD 3INT), but on the good side, scampered for 78yds on 9 carries. We will not win many games with him turning the ball over like that, but having a dual threat at QB can help mitigate the turnovers.

The tide of the game turned when CB Cesar Bustamante intercepted a pass and returned it 31yds for a touchdown. This score put the Jaguars ahead 14-10 in the 3rd quarter and proved to be the game winning score. Vikings HB Fredrick Williford was dominant and but was unable to keep the Vikings in the game in the 2nd half. We have to defend the run better.

We head back out on the road to face the (0-1) Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs run a Base 4-3 defense and a West Coast type offense. Their best payer, HB Babe Dimancheff (OVR 70), borke his arm early in training camp and is still a couple weeks from being ready to play. His absence has been felt because the Chiefs struggle to run the ball (22 car 54 yds last game). Run defense is our weak point, so it will be interesting to see if we can hold them down. On defense, CB Barry Smith had a monster game last week (5 Tac, 3 forced fum, 1 fum recovery, i int, 1 pass def), so we may have to avoid his half of the field. Should be an interesting game.

The stats speak for themselves. We mauled the Chiefs. The Time of Possession tells the story. Our Offensive Line dominated, opening up huge lanes for our running backs to exploit to the tune of 275 yards. QB Y.A. Tittle did not throw an interception and got to enjoy the 4th quarter on the sidelines watching his backup finish up the game. More positives were our running backs (HB Michael Hill 17 car/103 yds and HB Robert Ferrer 10 car/84 yds) running all over the Kansas City Chief front 7 and WR Bernard Jacobson (8 cat/78 yds 3 TD) was unstoppable in the red zone.

The only negative is our fumbling issues. We must do a better job of holding on to the ball. The 1 lost fumble directly led to the Chiefs only score. Good game though.

There is a league wide Newspaper highlighting certain actions (injuries, trades, etc.)that happen throughout the league. You can also drill down and see your individual team newspaper as well. Something nice to have, especially when major injuries happen.

We take the top ranked offense and the 6th ranked defense back out on the road to face the (0-2) Houston Texans. As you can see above, the Texans have struggled on offense and defenseso the only hope they really have is to run their stud running backs HB Charlie Trippi (OVR 94) and HB Vitamin Smith (OVR 78) a bunch, grind the clock and keep our potent offense off the field. Our run defense is still a little suspect in my eyes, so the Texans running game bears watching.

Now this was an ugly loss. And to believe we were actually leading 10-0 until late in the 2nd quarter. QB Y.A. Tittle (20/31 240yds 1 int ans a strip-sack fumble) had a game he would most likely want to forget. About the only good things I see from the game log is WR Rayford Thomson had a very nice game (5cat/95yds) and LB Hiram Pennington (10 tackles, 1 forced fumble and 1 passdef) played a good game, but the negatives were stark in this game.

Our fumbling issue in the running game is hamstringing us. HB Michael Hill has 3 lost fumbles in 3 games. HB Robert Ferrer has 1. If this is going to be an ongoing issue throughout the year, I may have to limit their carries and go with our 3rd string HB. Giving up 189 yards on the ground is very disappointing. We are also not generating enough pass rush (2 sacks in 3 games). All in all, I am happy to be 2-1 after three straight games on the road, but I am hoping to see improvement.

Well this four game road trip finally ends in Soldier Field where we take on the (1-2) Chicago Bears. To finish off this road trip at 3-1 would be outstanding. The Bears run a base 3-4 defense and a Balanced offense. The Bears boast a trio of tough running backs (HB Chuck Hunsinger 89 OVR, HB John Hoffman 82 OVR, HB Julie Rykovich OVR 82). If thier scouts have been studying us, they know we have big problems with tough running backs so I expect the to attack our weakness. It is really important for us to play disciplined and stay in our gaps. Also, our Offensive Line will have problems with their star defensive player, DE Ed Sprinkle (OVR 91), so will will have to chip him with TE's and HB's to slow him down.

The injury bug is starting to hit us and we have very little depth to lose many more players.

Well at least we get to play at home next week. Again, time of possession tells the story. Our front 7 never had a chance. Chicago HB John Hoffman may have been player of the game, but his partner HB Chuck Hunsinger was dominant as well (20car/122yds). And even their backup QB Steve Rominik hurt us by being very efficient and practically error-free (21/28 199yds 2TD 1INT). Lastly Bears OG Ed Bradley manhandled our DT's by recording 6 pancake blocks.

Nothing went right this game. QB Y.A. Tittle played another poor game (13/25 122yds 1TD 1INT, 7car/49yds). We need more from him going forward. The only bright spot was LB Hiram Pennington. He is really turning out to be a revelation at LB. Other than that, nothing else good happened. Our team is ready to go home.

Upcoming draft class:

The cool thing I have seen with the draft class is they move up and down throughout the season. Just because HB Ben Lawless is the top ranked draft prospect this week does not mean he will be the top ranked prospect by the end of the season. Also, those BBCF players can export their drafts from BBCF (with the use of a utility) and import those classes into PFS.

Week 6 Preview:

So we are finally at home to take on the (2-3) Indianapolis Colts. Looking at the rankings above, the Colts are in the bottom half of the league of most offensive and defensive categories. They do have a decent running game and their best player, DE Tom Fears (OVR 83), can be a terror, so we will need to scheme for him. We are still a little beat up injury-wise, but having WR Bernard Jacobson back will help us. He got hurt last game and that effected our passing game.

Seeing as how we already lost one game to a divisional opponent (Houston Texans), we do not want to lose anymore. The Tennessee Titans are tied with us for the division lead and we do not need to lose any tiebreakers to them. I hope some home cooking is exactly what this team needs to propel us to vistory.

This was a very frustrating game. The turnovers killed us. We even missed a field goal. This sequence below just shows you how we hurt ourselves.

Look at that depressing sequence of miscues. It is downright disgusting that HB Michael Hill fumbled the ball on the Colts 12 yard line. That is his 4th fumble of the year. Though he is averaging 5.7 yards per carry, I may need to start limiting his carries. He is just too fumble-prone. QB Y.A. Tittle is just in a funk. He did not play well again (26/39 234yds 1TD 2INT, 2car/10yds) and his interception at our own 42 yard line with 1:08 left in the fourth quarter ended any chance we had of tying or winning the game.

Positives that I see are WR Bernard Jacobson played well (10cat/75yds 1TD) and a free agent we picked up off of the street last week and is now a starter CB Stephen Stratton (OVR 39) had a very solid game (4tackles, 1INT, 4 Pass def.). Hopefully, he can develop going forward.

Out of the frying pan and into the fryer. This is the toughest team we have played all year. Behind the magnificent running of HB George Taliaferro (OVR 94) the (5-1) Chargers are a tough team. Also, defensively, they are a swarming team and attack you up the middle with their stud DT Art Donovan (OVR 77). I suspect that we will have to control the clock to keep the Chargers rushing juggernaut off of the field.

Very surprising outcome. And I attribute this victory to one thing and one thing only. San Diego Charger HB George Taliaferro, started this game off like gangbuster, breaking off a dynamic 81yd TD run late in the first quarter. I figured we were in for a very long day. But at the 6:53 minute mark in the 2nd quarter, something amazing happened. Taliaferro broke his nose and was out for the game! Without their biggest weapon, the Chargers were toast. And our team took it to them. QB Y.A. Tittle had a very nice game. WR Terry Lovell had a wonderful game with 5cat/114yds (including a 60yd bomb from Tittle). Defensively, we played a solid game. We are still fumbling the ball far too much and the penalties are killing our drives, but we won the game. And that's all that matters.

Well we have another divisional game and we really need to get this game. We are currently in a three way tie with Tennessee and Houston with a record of 3-3. We head back out on the road to face the Titans who are lead by HB Glenn Davis (OVR 82). These tough HB's have been our weakness, so we will need to find a way to bottle him up if we are to win this game. This game will most likely be a defensive struggle due to the strong defenses these two teams have.

Words fail me. We were leading this game 20-13 at halftime. And the Titans scored 33 unanswered points! Why? We just could not stop them on offense. Titan QB Adrian Burk was fantastic (21/33 205yds 2TD 1INT) and HB Glenn Davis was dominant (14car/123yds 2TD). That combination together was too much for our beleaguered defense to handle. QB Y.A. Tittle continues his roller coaster of inconsistency (10/21 148yds 1INT). We continue to run the ball well, but we are still turning the ball over far too much on the ground. Defensively, we were horrible, allowed too many big plays and could not get off the field. Our horrible LB's are hurting us badly.

Well, we are back at home to face off with the (4-3) Buffalo Bills. As you can see the Bills are strong on both sides of the ball. Their best player, WR John Cherry (OVR 74) is having a very good year averaging 7 catches a game for 80 yards. We will have to scheme against him to contain him. We need this game badly. Win this and we are 4-4. Lose and we are 3-5 and struggling to fight for a playoff spot.

Our sieve-like defense kills our chances again. Our turnover machine QB Y.A. Tittle (26/42 276yds 3TD 3INT) destroys our chances with a late interception killing our chances of tying/winning the game. This is almost like the same song being played every wee. Pathetic!

Bright spots are WR's Bernard Jackson and WR Terry Lovell (8/81 and 8/90, respectively). Also our running game was extremely strong (another fumble notwithstanding). I will be making some adjustments on defense. Something has to change.

Week 10 Preview:

Well this week we host the class of the NFL as the (8-0) Green Bay Packers come down to Jaguar Stadium. And this game will probably be ugly. Their all-world HB Larry Coutre (OVR 100) is a leading MVP candidate. Packers QB Tobin Rote is steady and quite dangerous passing off of play-action. My gameplan is to crowd the box, slowing down the running game and making QB Rote beat me through the air. Our playoff chances were most likely destroyed last week, so from here on out, we are playing for pride and playing to see who we keep for next year.

Amazing game. Green Bay was up on us 14-0 late in the 2nd quarter when something amazing happened. There was a personal foul called on their defense and something seemed to click with the team. Our offense went down to score. Then at halftime, the team captains gave a motivational speech for the ages. And wouldn't you know, the vaunted Packer offense did not score another point and they suffered their first defeat of the season. QB Y.A. Tittle was fantastic (26/36 299yds 1TD 1INT, 7car 57yds). WR Bernard Jacobson (11cat/99yds) made catch after catch on third and long to keep the chains moving and the Packer offense on the bench. Our defense bent but did not break very often. Wonderful effort!

This week has us traveling to Baltimore to face the (4-5) Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens are led by their very takented bookend Defensive Ends (Bob Boyd OVR 89 and Larry Brink OVR 83). Boyd dislocated his finger last game, but is probable for this game. On offense, the Ravens feature a power rushing attack led by HB Terrence Shelly (OVR 78). They have a terrible offense and middling defense, so if we can run the ball, eat the clock and limit mistakes, I like our chances to win this game.

Tough defensive struggle. We could not sustain drives this game. and those 12 penalties for 102 yards is the reason why. Ravens running back was tough to deal with this game and our offense just could not score in the second half. Our defense played decently and free agent pickup CB Stephen Stratton has continued to be a revelation in coverage (4tack, 4passdef, 1 INT). We have extended his contract for another 3 years/2.5 million dollars.

Due to my stupidity, I simmed the game prior to posting the preview match up. The (3-7) Houston Texans come into town this week. They beat us in week 3 19-10, so the hope is we can extract revenge on them. Their one and only weapon continues to be HB Charlie Trippi, so if we handle him, we will handle the Texans.

Big win for us! QB Y.A. Tittle played his best game of the season (23/29 226yds 2TD, 8car/54yds 1TD). His is truly a dual-threat QB that can punish a team with his arm and his legs. If he played more consistently, then we could possibly have been a playoff contender. WR Bernard Jacobson played a wonder game (12cat/91yds) and our running game was strong, as usual. Defensively, we played a bend but don't break gameplan and though Texans HB Charlie Trippi had a nice game (19car/118yds 1TD), we limited Texans QB Ricardo Hodges (14/30 169yds) opportunities to hurt us down field.

The goal this week is to get to .500. And with the (2-10) Oakland Raiders coming into town, I suspect we will have a good chance. From a talent perspective, the Raiders two best players are their Punter and Kicker. That is all you really need to know about why they are 2-10. This game is on us. If we play like we are supposed to play, we will win this game by two touchdowns.

We should have lost this game. Only Oakland's silly penalties kept us in the game. QB Y.A. Tittle broke his cheek bone in the 2nd quarter and had to leave the game so backup QB Genero Denny had to come in for relief. Though he played well enough (12/21 105yds 1TD), he is not the dual threat like Tittle is. Our defense played a stong game though. No standouts, but they did not allow the Raiders score in the last 40 minutes of the game. Impressive. Losing QB Y.A. Tittle for any amount of time will be detrimental to our longshot wild card shot. He is listed as doubtful for the next game.
