AUGUST 16 - DORTMUND (HOME) - BUNDESLIGA, 1ST RD

Hoffenheim: 13-8, Draw: 2-1, Dortmund: 6-4(Fav), Attendence: 25,989

Ibisevic---Sanogo

Teber---Salihovic---Gustavo---Hock

Ibertsberger---Compper---Jaissle---Beck

Ozcan
-----
Subs: D.Haas, Nilsson, Janker, Vorsah, Stocker, Ba, Wellington
Scratched: Johnson, Valeev
Unavailable: Hildebrand, Fabricio, Obasi, Eduardo, Dias, Weis
-----

--Dortmund's leaves his area to play a ball and his clearance is pounced on by Beck, who tries to lob a very long shot over the retreating keeper. It goes just wide.
--In the 43rd Jaissle gets called four a foul inside the penalty area. Penalty kick for Dortmund. Hajnal sinks it for Dortmund and they take a 1-0 lead.
--1-0 is the score at the half. It's a fairly even game, but Dortmund has had the better chances. We haven't put any of seven shots on goal, nor have we completed a cross yet...
--Salihovic picked up a bit of a knock in the first half and doesn't look to have enough to play in the 2nd half, so I bring on Hocker for him.
--Dortmund scores in the 67th on a long ball that no Hoffenheim player could get to. The scorer walked around Ozcan to finish.
--I bring on Ba and Vorsah for Sanogo and Gustavo, who are both very tired.
--Ibisevic gets a short range shot in the 75th as he finds space inside the box. The goalie gets body on it and it rolls out of bounds.
--In the 87th Teber gets his head on one inside the box, but puts it over the crossbar.
--And that's all she wrote. We had a few chances here and there, but couldn't convert any. Bit of a stinker opener.

--Dortmund's Dede gets Man of the Match.

That was my first domestic league game. The 2nd Round of the DFB-Pokal Cup won't be until September 23rd. However, you could probably pose that question again after my next post.

POST-MATCH/WEEKLY NEWS

-I was mistaken about Paulinho's ban. The ban apparently applies to all German domestic competitions. And now he has had two more games added to the ban. Seems a bit harsh!

-The draw for the 2nd round of the DFB-Pokal Cup is today. Ugggggggggggggggh. We get Bayern Munich at home (lol). The board had better lower their expectations!

-Chinedu Obasi's Nigerian squad just lost to Argentina in the semifinals of the Olympics. They'll play Beligum for Bronze. Fabricio and Brazil will be Argentina's opponent in the Gold Medal game. Hurry back, Chinedu!

-Shakhtar are now after Demba Ba and have put a 7 million euro bid on him. Assholes.

-There is a newstory that Premier League side Wigan are looking at Landon Donovan. I wouldn't mind bringing Donovan aboard at some point, but I don't think I could if he moves this transfer window.

-And the next note I get is that Wigan have made a bid for him. Oh man, I really would like to get in on this action. Donovan had a short stint with Leverkusen 4 or so years ago and has gotten a lot of flack for his lackluster play during that time. It'd make a great story if he came back. I just don't know if I'd like to do that at the expense of a guy like Ba or Obasi.

-So.. I make a bid for Landon Donovan!!

DONOVAN BID

Wigan's offer is listed as 3.9m euros plus clauses. His value is listed at 4.7m, so I start with a bid of that amount. Donovan has already been unsettled by the speculation linking him with Wigan and said that if he was going to be moved that he wanted it to happen soon. I don't have the MLS as a playable league in this career and I wonder if that isn't to my advantage somehow.

I immediately flatter him and tell the press that I'm in awe of his talents. I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy!

AUGUST 23 - HAMBURG (AWAY) - BUNDESLIGA, 2ND RD

Hoffenheim: 3-1, Draw: 2-1, Hamburg: 4-6(Fav), Attendence: 51,222

Ibisevic---Ba

Teber---Salihovic---Gustavo---Hock

Subs: Ozcan, Jaissle, Johnson, Vorsah, Stocker, Sanogo, Wellington
Scratched: Janker, Valeev

-----

--This will be a tough match. That's all I got to say about that.
--Hamburg comes out firing early and they get one past Haas in the 1st minute. Blame is being passed on to my captain Marvin Compper. Oh dear.
--In the 35th a Hamburg player finds himself totally unmarked on a cross from the right side. Easy goal. My defense is leaving plenty to be desired early on in the season.
--2-nil Hamburg at the break.
--I replace Nilsson with Vorsah before the 2nd half gets underway.
--When things are going wrong, they're going wrong. In the 52nd Hamburg scores on a corner kick. The giant Vorsah's guy gets the header over him. 3-0 Hamburg.
--In the 71st Teber gets beat to a ball out wide in Hamburg's corner. Ba latches onto an errant pass from their defender and slips it past the Hamburg keeper. That's our first goal of the season. 3-1
--Bleh. A Hamburg goal off of another cross. Compper beaten again. 4-1
--That's all she wrote. A very poor defensive effort to say the least.

--Man of the Match is Hamburg's Marcell Jansen.

-Issac Vorsah twisted his knee against Hamburg and is out for around 2 weeks.

-Vedad Ibisevic hurt his elbow while falling awkwardly and he'll be out for 9-11 days.

-Paulinho sustained a bruised jaw in training. He'll be out for about a week.

-In other injury-related news, Landon Donovan has broken his leg and won't be seeing any action for 6-7 months. Maybe next summer! lol

-Timo Hildebrand has resumed full training. That is good news. Don't think he'll be ready for our next match though.

-Tobias Weis resumes full training as well.

-Chinedu Obasi and Fabricio are both back from the Olympics. Gold=Argentina, Silver=Brazil, Bronze=Belgium

--Let's win one, eh boys?
--In the 17th Obasi skips by a defender with the ball in the penalty area. He centres it to Ba and bam, we've got a goal. A lead? But what is that? Somebody check dictionary.com for me.
--In the 43rd Salihovic lines up for a free just just outside the penalty area. He goes for goal, but his shot gets deflected off of the wall for a corner.
--1-0 good guys at the break. Fairly even game unfortunately.
--Ibertsberger crosses to an unmarked Sanogo who is right on the edge of the goalie area and he ricochets a header off of the woodwork and into the goal. 2-0 us!
--Some sloppy defending sees Karlsruhe tie it up on a 20-yard blast.
--Things get a little dicey in the final moments as Karlsruhe maintain possession in our final third, but no great chances come about.
--We get our first ever Bundesliga victory. Victory is sweet! 2-1 Hoffe

POST-MATCH/WEEKLY NEWS

-Our next match is against Werder Bremen in two weeks. I'm guessing that has something to do with World Cup Qualifying taking place next weekend.

-On the subject of international play, Chinedu Obasi and Demba Ba will be representing their respective countries for each of their countries. I imagine they'll be ready for Werder Bremer.

-My U19 squad won their first match of the season 2-0 over Stuttgart. They face Offenbach in the 1st Round of the U19s Cup on September 3rd.

-Okay, so now the rest of my international players are announced. Stocker, Beck, and Jaissle will all leave for U19 duty. Ibisevic, Salihovic, Johnson, Weis, Hildebrand, Nilsson, Ibertsberger, and Ozcan all leave for senior team duty. Matches are being played on the 5th, 6th, 9th, and 10th, so I'm not sure who all will be ready to play in our next match.

DEADLINE SIGNING

As the early transfer window was closing I decided that I would take one last look at potential targets. Yadda yadda yadda I signed a speedy striker from the Czech Republic. Yan Blazek has a rare combination of great speed and great finishing ability. He's 20 years old and comes over from Czech 1st Division team Slovan Liberec for the price of 1.9m euros. He lacks the polish of a world class player, but I could see him finding a niche role for us over time. He accepts a backup role and a contract worth 6,500 euros/wk over 4 years. He probably won't get a ton of playing time right away. Perhaps I could send him out on loan next January when the transfer window opens again.

Here is the U21's wiki entry:

Quote:
Blažek is known as a very talented as well as a somewhat controversial player, due to his conflicts with coaches and alcohol consumption. On his web site he stated his motto: Děvky, chlast a prcání (hookers, booze and fucking). The site also included many photographs of him drinking rum with cola. After Blažek's transfer to Slavia, the web site gained some attention of the media, resulting in motto being changed to věř v sám sebe (trust in yourself) and the controversial photographs were removed.

Hookers, booze, and fucking eh? He'll fit right in.

--Leverkusen on the road will be a tough one. Hopefully Diego doens't kills us. Hildebrand makes his first start this season, though his match fitness isn't quite there. Almost had the entire team healthy until Danieal Haas and Weis got minor injuries during the break.
--Leverkusen with a coupe of chances in the first seven minutes.
--Almost a 1/3 of the match done and we're fortunate that it's still 0-0. We're playing defensive, but I didn't expect to be in our own end this much.
--Diego puts one in from about 500 yards in the 37th minute. 1-0 bad guys.
--1-0 at the half. Everything looks way too easy for the opponents.
--Vorsah picks up a foul on a corner kick in the opponent's end. All of the sudden he gets a straight red. Not sure what happened there, but that sucks donkey balls. Back to a shell we go.
--Hildebrand makes a double save in the 80th and keeps it a one goal game.
--Another long shot score for Leverkusen. 2-0 in the 83rd.
--Minutes later Beck loses the ball at the half line, their guy runs down the field untouched and centers. Easy goal to make it 3-0. We're being totally outclassed.
--Great effort, guys!

--Man of the Match is Leverkusen's Daniel Jensen.

POST-MATCH/WEEKLY NEWS

-Isaac Vorsah is suspended for 2 extra games for his hard foul that earned him a red card against Leverkusen.

-Our next match is against Bayern Munich in the 2nd Round of the DFB-Pokal Cup. Can't help but be scared for this matchup.

-Carlos Eduardo should finally be ready to play.

-Week after week, I get messages about how Obasi and Ba would like to move to bigger clubs. Oui Oui FC and Red Star Siberia just think they are the best ever. Okay, I get it. We're not even in a transfer window for crying out loud. Obasi is signed until 2012 and Ba until 2011. I'm not going to be held hostage by players that just signed contracts. It gets to be a little too much when you're barely into a career. They're both unhappy and I'm just not sure how much this affects their play. Okay, I'm going to listen to some Radiohead and go cry in a corner now. Bye.

--A minute later Ibisevic penetrates into the goalie area and is brought down. We are awarded a penalty! The Bayern players are furious!
--Ibisevic lines up for the penalty and... he nails it! 1-0 the underdogs are on top.
--Takes them all of 2 seconds to return the favor. Klose goes unmarked and heads a cross from the right easily. Demoralization ftl! 1-1
--1-1 at the half. Match is actually really even. I'm surprised we've been in their 1/3 for as much as we have. We have 4 shots on target to their 2.
--Pretty boring 2nd half. A chance for them, a chance for us. Nothing too great for either side.
--Extra time again! And my players are tiiiiiiiiirrrrred.
--Gah! They almost score in the 97th with a header that hits the woodwork.
--Bayern score in the 103rd when they should've been called for offsides. Yippee. Ibertsberger gets a yellow for arguing.
--Beck finds some space on the right side before he crosses to Sanago in front of the net. He gets his head on it and puts it by the keeper. It's all tied up at 2 with less than 14 minutes to go!
--Sanogo does it again in the 114th minute! A poor defensive play put the ball up in the air near the goalie box. Sanogo got higher than Suicane on a Sunday morning and headed it in. Can we pull this one off? I'm afraid Bayern are going to unleash the fury with only 6 minutes to go.
--Obasi is about to fall over. His condition is at 53. He won't be able to play this upcoming weekend I'm sure.
--Time to deploy my shut-up shop tactic.
--The fans want the whistle! And they get it! David has beaten Goliath! 3-2 Hoffe in extra time. Bayern is out of the DFB-Pokal Cup in the 2nd Round!!

--Man of the Match is Bayern's Miroslav Klose

Hoffenheim 3, Bayern Munich 2 (extra time)
