computer virus please help !!
OK, so we hooked our computer up to DSL the other day and withing 2 hours had a virus running rampant. I tried a system restore with no luck. I ran adaware in safe mode with a little luck. I bought an anti virus program (pc cillin) and installed it but it can't get through the scan without the computer freezing up. I'm at kind of a loss as to what to do next, any help?

Do a full restore where it re-formats your HD. Get a virus program and Spyware doctor and you'll be all set. Make sure you have automatic updates turned on.

You could try using a virus scan from one of those professional sites on the web. At the worst they probably could at least identify the virus.
I know you probably don't want to do it, but another option is to reformat the hard drive and reinstall your operating system, software, and anti-virus program before connecting to the net. |

Do you know if you're using NTFS or FAT for your file system?
If you are using FAT, one of the best AV sites out there is www.sophos.com and they have a free DOS antivirus tool (http://www.sophos.com/support/knowle...rticle/30.html) that works tremendously well...but only if you are using a FAT file system. |

This is a good free scanner as well:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ I had thought in his initial post that he did a restore - meaning, he wiped everything out already.. but I guess he just did it over the os. I would back everything up and re-install the OS if these programs we've listed do not turn up anything. I'm telling you though - http://www.pctools.com/ (Spyware Doctor) is such a great program and does a great job at wiping out spyware. |
