I really feel like Swanson should have tried harder to draw a walk there.

Dang it, another two run rally killer by Dansby. When are these guys going to learn?

I am so excited right now, but being an Atlanta fan the only thing running through my mind is "28-3".

Hard not to like this Braves team, especially when you factor in who they are playing.

On July 29th, the odds for the Braves to win the world series was 0.4%. What they have done is just unreal.

Really fun postseason. Most improbable champ since the 2006 Cardinals. Hats off to the GM for not selling at the deadline when Acuna went down.

Remarkable.
That's the word that comes to my mind most.
For my money, the first name on this particular World Championship should be Alex Anthopolous.

Call it genius, call it shrewd, call it luck, but whatever you call it the impromptu retooling of the roster mid-season worked beyond any reasonable expectation.

Congrats Braves, you may have done it in difficult and improbable fashion but there's no denying you did it.

Really sucks he couldn't be there to celebrate.

Makes me wonder if teams will do things differently in the future. If you've got a shot to make the playoffs, go for it. You might just get hot at the right time.

Snitker was great too I thought. Also can't believe Jorge Soler of Cubs lore won MVP.

Yeah, I didn't know that until several hours after the game (happened to see an ESPN headline about it)

He had tried to keep it quite so it wouldn't be a distraction. He has been doing radio interviews all day today. He says he and his family has been told they will be able to participate in the parade on Friday, but he doesn't know how.

Congrats Braves fans. I've always rooted for them since I lived in AL in the late 90s. Had a friend that was a huge fan and we went to tons of games.

Gonna miss baseball. With MLB.tv, this was my go to background noise while playing games at night.

Probably need to start an off-season thread but I'm on my phone so I'd probably screw it up.

Nick Castellanos has opted out of his contract with 2 years left and is a FA.

And the Reds cycle begins anew....good enough to make noise, but not good enough for good players to want to hang around be part of the solution.

Nick will stay if Bob wanted to pay him. After the past two years, though, it's pretty clear Bob is more interested in profit than winning. After the GM's galling statement yesterday about aligning payroll to resources, I expect a number of players are going to be let go this off-season.

But I hope that the moment itself was simply gutty enough that people remember it for that.

Posey was amazing in college. He used to catch 8 innings and close as the pitcher. He once played all 9 positions and hit a grand slam in the same.

…and Pirates fans will always recall Posey as the runner up choice for them for the #2 overall pick in 2008. Instead, they got six legendary years of Pedro Alvarez - best known for leading the league in HR’s & K’s in 2013, permanently forgetting how to throw from 3B to 1B the next year, and waking up manager Clint Hurdle in the middle of the night on a road trip in Milwaukee because he was afraid of ghosts.

The Reds just waived Wade Miley and his 6 WAR rather than pick up his option for 10 mil.

It's so hard to root for a time that is actively trying to get worse.

Ummmmm..what? Did he have a no trade clause? Or could they not take the option and then trade him?

They just wanted to get the payroll off of the books in the most efficient manner possible.

Quick maybe, but efficient? Unless I am missing something, a pick up of the option would cost them nothing if they trade him. A year of the player at that price point has to be worth at least a solid prospect or two. I don't know the history of the player here, so maybe I am just not getting some information. I can't help but think a team would offer the Reds a decent return, heck even cash, for a 6 war player at that price point.

$10M for a guy who gives you 160IP and has a lifetime ERA+ of 101? I am really out of touch with MLB value/contracts.

edit: and a guy who will be 35

Let's put it this way, he is three years younger than Charlie Morton, is coming off a much better year than Morton, and that is half of Morton's extension for next year.

It would be very hard to get a pitcher of that caliber at that price in the free agent market. Miley is a solid #3 or #4 starter. Had a 6 WAR last season.

If the Cubs are bad again, they can trade him at the deadline.

Lots of little signs that we are headed for a brutal winter of owners vs players. I read that the percentage of revenue that the players are currently receiving is typically +/-1:5% of 50%, but the owners don’t consider the BAMTech and some of the other, more modern revenue sources as part of the pie that should be shared.

Morton: 14-6, 3.34, 1.04 WHIP, .591 OOPS, 185 IP

Definitely not "a much better year" ... unless (hopefully) you meant Morton's 2020 that the Braves initially signed him from.

Morton is a much better pitcher. I still think Miley is a solid MLB starter and those aren't cheap if you're going through the free agent market. Especially on one year deals.

Both the owner and the GM have made it clear they aren't trying to win. They are primarily concerned with matching payroll to resources. Really no fun to root for the owner getting richer.

I was baseing off war numbers, 6 versus 4.

Edit: and I have guess those numbers are different because Morton was pitching in front of a much better defense. I wasn't getting that deep, just Miley's value is not half of Mortin's, but that is what he is getting paid next year.

5 Cardinals win a gold glove. First time in history a team has 5 players win.

The winners are Goldschmidt, Edman, Arenado, O'Neill, and Bader. 1B, 2B, 3B, LF, RF

Yadi finished 2nd.

Sources - New York Mets, Max Scherzer agree to three-year, $130 million contract

Apparently the new ownership is still practicing tried and true ways of the past. Can't see this being a great return on equity, even if it is Scherzer. We will see.

If I was given the choice between Gausman on a 5 year $110 mil deal and Scherzer on this deal I'd take the Scherzer deal. The old Mets ownership would have done something like give Gausman a 7 year deal to get him to New York.

It's a lot of money, but on a 3 year deal the risk is fairly minimal. It's unlikely Scherzer falls off a cliff so he should bring value even if the return isn't the full $130 mil. The added benefit here is the Mets don't have to give up the 14th overall pick either.

I love this stuff.

Imagine earning $42M per year to pitch, at best, 30 to 35 times a year.

Also, strange to see the Dodgers lose star players. It seems like they just kept piling them up, on top of one another the past few years.
