2003 Season Thread

So when is this thing going down? Tonight, or tomorrow?

Well, remember, one of the things that are now changed is that the season could very well run Saturday. I think DC will sometimes, maybe even often, run it on Friday, but the Friday deadline is really just for rosters and stuff.

He may not run the season at all tonight. Or he will run half tonight, and half tomorrow.

It will definitely be done by tomorrow, of course.

Point is, we don't have to all hang out and give up our Friday nights, if needed. Of course, I am like you, used to the Friday sims, so I always sorta look for them. That said, I'll probably take off soon.

I have an export up now, although I am still wrapping up some minor league lineups. If the sim runs without them, I won't lose any sleep.

Alrighty then. I was headed to play some GTA4, but I'll stick around and watch us fade from glory once again.

Had to move O'Halloran to Atlanta's open spot, per Chief's PM request, as he did sign with them.

Now I'm running April.

Well strangely, I expected Montreal to be good. Not Columbus. But Columbus got lucky when the AI signed that stud catcher for them. Montreal had the better offseason, but so far, it doesn't seem to matter.

Oh I forgot the hahahaha that I did when I saw your post.

Heh...give it time. After all, you signed Clary for all that money, so it has to work out.

Grrr...

It must have kept going after I moved it up to 5. I swear I looked at that screen a hundred times, too.

It's supposed to be 5-man (of course).

I figured as much. Well, it's June 1st. I just noticed it, as I saw Christian Miller was projected to go 30-21 or something and I said "uh, what? how is that possible?"

Then I took a look and saw that. It's set to a 5-man now.

Your team is hitting .270 (3rd in the RL), 1st in home runs (69) and 5th in OBP (.338), but 2nd in slugging (.436)

Chief, your offense is hitting .275, tops in the CL, tops in OBP, hits, extra-base hits and walks. 3rd in home runs (42) and 2nd in slugging and runs scored.

Even with the pitching sanfu of having only your ace, the mop-up guy and spot starter starting, your team ERA was 3rd in the league at 3.63 so far

By accident on purpose maybe? All of my rotations were at #3 or #4 starter or something like that, so I went through to each screen to move it to start the #1 pitcher. I think (no, I know) I wasn't paying close attention and I must have mindlessly moves the rotation number up to '1' as well (as in, 1 man rotation, yuck).

Christian Miller is 11-7, with a 2.71 ERA in 21 starts, 123 K and 26 walks.

Basically, give the guy the POY award now. I mean, his arm should've fallen off.

Okay....I'm at a loss as to what is wrong with us, unless its the rest of the rotation and the pen.

Sounds about right for the offense. I know I have the sticks.

It's the arms that worry me, so nice to see they held up okay. And thank God we don't have injuries on.

Wow, starting as soon as he can, Miller still managed to pitch long enough to get decisions in 18 of his 21 starts? Miller's the man! Maybe I should ask for his nickname to be "The Man".

Speaking of which, I am going to go look up Batman.

Dwight "Batman" Knight is on Brooklyn's major league squad in my game. If the game kept him there, looks like he's a rookie this year.

Well thats better. I'd like to know how DH Jorge Villarreal is doing. I typed that very sentence his first season in the bigs, and now I'll do it for his last. My offence be damned, he was going to get some kind of playing time in the bigs before he faded completely away. Did it for Lopez last season too.

Batman is hitting .340 with 2 HR and 25 RBI in 238 at-bats this year for Brooklyn. He's a 4 1/2 player though and he's only 21. Can you "star in the making?"

Back to .500. Quite the longshot to catch Alan right now, though, and Teach looks like she can mail in her postseason roster already.

Yeah, he's a very nice player. Reminds me that Commo has disappeared, too.

I wrote to all of them. Commo, ekcut and allpro. I guess they're all busy or burnt out for now. They haven't written back yet, but at last glance, they hadn't been on the boards in a while. But I haven't looked in a while and I'm not gonna stalk. As long as the league's going, I figure that'll make it work and it's better than playing solo in my mind.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the fact that Colorado and Boston are on Columbus' heels!! We got another close one in the RL!

Agreed. I still love the league even with the less participation, but obviously getting some more owners in here would be great. I am looking forward to seeing how the community-owned franchises work out.

I ended it like a week and a half ago. A few of the people overlapped here and left that league all at one time, which left us with not really enough to bother. The three who were left -- I didn't own a team there, either -- weren't really enough to keep it going. It was a concept league anyway, really, just trying the fast-sim concept at a different pace and doing it a different way.

But with my schedule changes and us starting back up here, I really couldn't commit to trying to maintain it, especially since people just aren't joining leagues right now. At least, not fast-sim leagues.

That said, I released the game file to everyone who played as a zip file, so I can track it down for you and send it along if you wanna see it.

Yeah, the RL looks like a good race right now. I still hold out hope I can make the CL interesting.
