FOOL 2069 Regular Season

Season runs in 5 hours! I have softball again on Monday this week, so there is a chance I might run a few minutes late, but shouldn't be too much beyond the deadline time for exports.

Looking forward to see how we do this season. We signed some big bats, we got a highly touted rookie starting at SS. And we have very little pitching, so I'm trying the 4 man rotation to get Barrios more starts.

Milestones to watch for tonight!

Leroy Winter was a big offseason addition for the Toronto Marlboros. In his first season with them, the 6 time Tanaka award winner could crack the 3000 hit mark and 600 HR mark!

Winemakers Jones Strikes out 16
Monday, April 1st, 2069: If you can't hit 'em, you can't beat 'em. That was the story today at the Napa Valley-St. Petersburg clash at Ballpark of Napa Valley. Winemakers twirler Anthony Jones gunned down 16 Pelicans via strikeouts and beat them 5-2. In a superb performance he allowed 7 hits and issued 1 walk for the victory.

Hornby Touches All the Bases, Hits for Cycle
Monday, April 15th, 2069: You don't get to see a player hit a single, double, triple and home run in the same game very often, but when it happens, it is special moment. Hayden Hornby of the Winemakers enjoyed that moment today, going 4 for 4 and hitting for the cycle against the Settlers. While the Napa Valley left fielder had great success today at the plate, his team wasn't as fortunate. The Winemakers lost the contest by a 8-2 score.

"I didn't even realize I accomplished the feat until my teammates pointed it out," said a smiling Hornby.

For his historic day Hornby had 4 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 run batted in and 2 runs scored. Not a bad day's work. He'll get his name in the league record book, too.

H. Hornby doubled in the 2nd, tripled in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off K. Masoni in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

Hornby is batting at a .333 pace this season, picking up 15 hits in 45 at-bats with 4 home runs, 10 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

Tracy Is April's Best CL Hurler
Wednesday, May 1st, 2069: Ben Tracy's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-0 in April, the 40-year-old St. Petersburg hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 32 in 45.1 innings, logged an ERA of 1.99 and allowed opponents to hit .231 against him.

Cline Picks Up Best RL Batter Honors for April
Wednesday, May 1st, 2069: Tim Cline battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old Cline told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I may not take the field and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Cline hit .320 with 12 home runs, 36 RBIs and scored 26 runs.

Rodríguez Wins CL Prize, Named Best Hitter in April
Wednesday, May 1st, 2069: There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Tony Rodríguez helped his contract negotiations by nabbing April's Continental League Batter of the Month honors.

The Tokyo right fielder put together a .333 batting average with 7 home runs, 22 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Rodríguez continues at this brisk pace.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month

Wednesday, May 1st, 2069: Dae-su Kim earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Boston right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Kim hit .307 with 5 home runs, 18 RBIs and 18 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

No offense Mr.AI baseball award voter, but I think I would have chosen Ednams .515 avg with 5 HR and 20 RBI as the player of the month over Cline.

Hyannis's Álvarez Hammers #300
Saturday, May 4th, 2069: The Hyannis Patriots had something to celebrate today even though they dropped a 4-2 decision to Colorado. The reason -- the splendid slugger David Álvarez hit his 300th career homer in today's contest at Ballpark of Colorado.

"I'm fortunate to be here," Álvarez told the media after the game. "The Patriots have a classy organization and some great fans. Homer #300 was for them."

His all-time numbers show Álvarez has compiled a .286 batting average and collected 1386 hits, 300 home runs and 943 RBIs.

Hutchesson Belts Number 300
Friday, May 24th, 2069: Robin Hutchesson circled the bases and raised his arm in triumph. He had finally hit his 300th home run. It was a homer for a lot of people: himself; his teammates past and present; his former managers and coaches; and especially his family, who sat near the plate cheering his every at-bat during the past few games.

Hutchesson spoke with BNN and said, "I knew number 300 would come sooner or later. I had to keep reminding myself, 'Relax, relax, just let it happen, let it happen.' And it finally did."

His milestone homer came in the Boston Settlers 11-1 win over the Apex Assassins. Hutchesson went 2 for 3 in the game, scored 2 runs, and batted in 3.

In his career Hutchesson has accumulated a .334 batting average with 1884 hits. His totals include 281 doubles, 26 triples, 300 home runs, 845 strikeouts, 1222 runs scored, 971 RBIs and a lifetime .428 OBP.

RL's Premier Starter is Boyd
Saturday, June 1st, 2069: When Glen Boyd takes the hill, there's a good chance for a Colorado victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 3-0 mark and a 1.95 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 37 innings, fanned 30, and held enemy hitters to a .235 average.

That's why the Rancheros star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

This season Boyd has worked 75 innings with 59 strikeouts en route to a 7-1 record and a 3.00 ERA.

May's Premier Pitcher Announced By CL
Saturday, June 1st, 2069: Ron Owens has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in May and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Pelicans bullpen ace collected 7 saves and 11 strikeouts in 15.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .185 average and posting a 0.57 ERA and a 2-0 record.

This season Owens is 2-and-0 with 11 saves and a 0.77 ERA. He has given up 12 hits in 23.1 innings with 21 strikeouts.

Blaine Collins Named Best RL Batter in May
Saturday, June 1st, 2069: The Republic League has given Blaine Collins the Batter of the Month Award.

In May, the Hammersmith first baseman starred with a .357 batting average, 7 home runs and 29 RBIs. Collins also had 14 walks, posted a .435 on-base percentage and scored 24 times.

Collins is hitting at a .357 mark this season. His stats show 8 home runs, 45 RBIs and 38 runs scored. He has played 54 games for the Hooligans.

CL's Best Batter Selected
Saturday, June 1st, 2069: May was an outstanding month for Tokyo second baseman Jorge Fernández and it was capped off today with the announcement that he was named the winner of the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

Fernández compiled a .385 batting average and .521 on-base percentage for the month. In 25 games he piled up 35 hits, 5 home runs, 17 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

Fernández is hitting .355 this year with 11 home runs and 41 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .487, 42 walks and scored 45 times.

Prettyman Voted May's #1 Newcomer
Saturday, June 1st, 2069: A rookie, Tyler Prettyman is turning heads around the Republic League, especially since he just netted May's Rookie of the Month trophy.

The Hammersmith left fielder batted .328 last month and collected 38 hits, 3 home runs, 15 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

This could be the first of many such awards if he continues this torrid hitting, but he's definitely put himself in a good position to claim the Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award later this year.

Posting a .327 batting average to date, Prettyman has 7 home runs and 29 RBIs.

Sánchez Receives May Rookie Award

Saturday, June 1st, 2069: It might be just his first year in the league, but Félix Sánchez is playing like he's been here before. The Tokyo right fielder rang up some lofty numbers in the last 30 days and snagged the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award.

In May he hit .397 with 5 home runs and 27 hits. He walked 10 times and compiled a .463 on-base percentage, scored 14 times and drove in 14.

This season Sánchez has hit at a .352 clip with 32 RBIs, 8 home runs and 25 runs scored. He has played in 47 games.

Congrats to Winter. It's a shame no one got to enjoy the early years of his legendary career, if you don't count the AI, of course.

Colorado's White Chosen June's Best in RL
Monday, July 1st, 2069: The Colorado Rancheros owe Palmer White a lot for his performance this past month. One of the league's most dominant starters in June, White tore up the opposition with a fine 4-1 mark on his way to the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

"When you're pitching this well," analyzed White, "it's a lot easier to come to the park. I don't judge my performance by the stats, I judge it -- the team judges it -- by the score of the game. I could say I'm tossing electric stuff right now and that would go over big. But if I toss that same stuff -- exact same pitch selection and location -- and they bang me around tomorrow, I was awful. That's the way baseball is."

It was White who did the banging in June as he tossed up 38 strikeouts in 37.2 innings, holding opponents to a .185 average and posting a 1.19 ERA.

Season-to-date White has rung up 11 wins and 2 losses in 16 appearances. He has an ERA of 1.85 and has fanned 108 batters in 107 innings.

Continental League Announces Best Starter
Monday, July 1st, 2069: The Tokyo Cyclones felt very secure when they sent Yoichibei Kimura out to the hill last month. The 21-year-old starter went after Continental League hitters with a vengeance and earned June's Pitcher of the Month award.

He went 5-1 with a 3.29 ERA as he struck out 30 in 41 innings over 7 starts.

On the season Kimura has a 9-4 record with a 5.11 ERA.

Guardado of Toronto RL Batter of the Month
Monday, July 1st, 2069: Hot-hitting left fielder Héctor Guardado of the Toronto Marlboros really pounded opposing pitchers in June and collected Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

He hit .365 with 7 home runs and 21 RBIs and scored 25 runs.

Thus far this season Guardado has hit .377 with 14 home runs, 58 RBIs and scored 59 times.

Hutchesson Brings Home CL Batter of Month Honor
Monday, July 1st, 2069: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 31-year-old Robin Hutchesson put together a solid offensive month for Boston and was crowned June's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .447 with 4 home runs, 18 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

This season Hutchesson is batting .406 with 12 home runs.

High on the Hit Parade, Quintana Voted #1 Rookie
Monday, July 1st, 2069: José Quintana is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Hartford hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .366 average with 30 hits, no home runs and 9 RBIs.

Thus far this year Quintana has hit .321 with 2 home runs and 29 RBIs.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Monday, July 1st, 2069: Youngster Elton Chuter emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from St. Petersburg deserved the honor, batting .300 with 6 home runs and 20 runs batted in. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Chuter enjoy the limelight.

Chuter is hitting .298 in 2069 with 56 RBIs and 14 home runs.

Hamilton Razor-Sharp, Shuts out Toronto
Monday, July 15th, 2069: He didn't put a spell on them. It wasn't black magic, it was just old-fashioned good pitching. That's how Shane Hamilton of the Hyannis Patriots blanked the Toronto Marlboros 6-0.

After tossing a complete-game 1-hit shutout, he was all smiles, saying, "I threw a lot of my pitches for strikes in this game. I mixed it up and tried keeping these guys off balance."

His own skipper said, "He's at his best when he gets ahead of the hitters." Hamilton walked 3 and struck out 6 in the victory.

The Marlboros manager commented on their lack of success against him, saying, "He was throwing his breaking ball for strikes and we never capitalized on any of his mistakes."

This year Hamilton has 6 wins and 9 losses and a 9.27 ERA.

I was doing some research earlier to decide what to do with Abbot and noticed it. Jones exceptional numbers for only having 2 pitches (which I had just noticed, thought he was a 3+ pitch guy) made me look closer. When I saw knuckleball I thought "add that to custom view for pitchers".

Figured I'd share it with the group as it seems something that can be the difference between a good 2 pitch guy and a great one.

Settlers Pitching Ravaged by Dionne
Tuesday, July 30th, 2069: It was a big day with the bat for Tanner Dionne of the Tokyo Cyclones at Ballpark of Boston as he bashed out hit after hit after hit to defeat Boston 37-3.

After the game he said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today. 7 hits in 7 tries. But my hits are not the big thing in the game. The victory is the important thing. That's the story."

At the end of the game Dionne had collected 7 hits in 7 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy. He had a big day with the bat. And the Cyclones had won.

T. Dionne singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off L. Cuevas in the 6th, walked in a run in the 6th, singled in the 7th, hit a two-run single in the 7th, walked in the 8th and hit a two-run single in the 8th.

Since 2011 only Frank Dawson has had 7 hits in a game.

Dionne the wonderman. What an unlikely candidate for such a great game

OOTP seems really bad about the big inning management, it will leave a pitcher in there way too long to get shelled. After walking 9 guys, no manager would ever leave a pitcher in that long in real life.

I don't really want you to look, but I wonder what his "pull starter" slider is at.
