Post Favorite groups/artists by decade

I thought it might be fun to have people list their favorite artists in each decade of their life. As an added twist, I'd like people to do two versions: 1. The list as you would have put it at the end of the decade; and 2. The list as you feel about artists from that decade today. For instance, in my case, I'm pretty sure Dolly Parton needs to he high on my 70s at-the-time list, and Queen, my current champ of the 70s, will be nowhere on that list. Each artist can only appear in the decade that they became a favorite for you. As as example, Def Leppard formed in the late 70s, but I only became aware of them in the 80s, so they'll appear on my 80s list.

Have fun.

I'm going to go on record and state I don't know if I understand your rules.

So since I was born in the 80s, any musical group from before then could only go in my favorites for when I became aware of them?

Yes. I realize my rules are a little fuzzy.

Basically, looking for lists of your favorite new to you artists for each decade's "at-the-time" list. In the second list "How you feel now", you can put an artist into their proper decade. Using myself as an example again, my only recollection for Queen in the 70s was hating "Another One Bites The Dust", and thus hating Queen. Now, they are my favorite band from the 70s. (Oh, and on further research, I see "Another One Bites The Dust" was actually 1980.)

List One:
80: Vanilla Ice
90: Dave Matthews Band
00: Animal Collective

List Two:
60: The Beatles
70: Led Zeppelin (I consider them a 70s band, 68-69 notwithstanding)
80: Beastie Boys
90: Nirvana
00: Animal Collective

For list two, the 90s was the toughest, only because while there's plenty of music I like, I can't say I have a strong affinity for any one band. And band's I do tend to really like made most of their better music in the start of the 00s.

And yes, I saw the rules of no repeat bands, but I couldn't think of another 00s band that I have quite that devotion to. I guess #2 would be either Radiohead or The White Stripes.

Then

70s - Cheap Trick/Journey
80s - Guns n Roses
90s - Mr. Big
00s - James Blunt

Now

60s - Smokey Robinson
70s - Cheap Trick
80s - Guns n Roses
90s - Faith No More
00s - James Blunt
10s - One Drop / John Legend

All-time - Cheap Trick

Not much has changed, with the exception of me coming to appreciate FNM more now and the fact that my tastes have evolved from more metal centric, to Reggae/R&B now and also discovering some of the great music from the 50's and 60's.

By the way, feel free to list a Top ___ for each decade. You don't have to limit things to just your favorite.

Holy crap, that took me quite awhile and even when I thought I was done I ran out for lunch and heard Tom Petty on the radio and had to add him.

Then:
80's: Guns 'n' Roses, Poison
90's: Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam, Black Crowes, Weezer, Counting Crows, The Tragically Hip, The Watchmen, Tom Petty
00's: White Stripes, Foo Fighters, Killers, The Strokes, Bedouin Soundclash

Now:
60's: The Rolling Stones
70's: Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton
80's: Guns 'n' Roses
90's: Pearl Jam
00's: White Stripes, Foo Fighters

The 90's were a time when I spent a lot of time on the bus going to and from school and/or work and I had a walkman/discman with me during those times. I also had a paper route during the early 90's and that used to take me at least an hour to do. Needless to say, I listened to a lot of music during that decade and absolutely loved it.

Great question! I'm a child of the 1980s, so...

Then:
80s - New Kids on the Block
90s - Nirvana
00s - Madlib

Now:
80s - Michael Jackson
90s - Aphex Twin
00s - J Dilla (but really Madlib)
10s so far - Flying Lotus

List #2 was fairly easy, but #1 was tough. Went with Nirvana because they were my 'first' band, and I still listen to Incesticide on occasion.

Whew, this is tough.

Then:
70's - KC and the Sunshine Band (in my defense, I was a kid, and their songs were playing on the radio 24/7)
80's - Rush/X/Suicidal Tendencies/Fear (I was going through a punk phase that I never fully grew out of)
90's - Pearl Jam
00's - Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers

Now:
60's - Beatles
70's - Led Zepplin (cliche, but damn their music is amazing) or Fleetwood Mac
80's - X. I'm not real fond of this decade now, and rarely listen to music from then.
90's - Sublime/Public Enemy (not sure whether to group them in the 80's or 90's)
00's - Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers. Still see them live whenever I can.

Umbrella - I've met Billy Zoom a few times. We are in a group for keeping MG Midgets/Austin-Healey Sprites running. You wouldn't think a big time punk guitarist would drive a Midget, but he does.

Very much like you in the 00's to 10's transition, which I think is true for a lot of people of that ilk. To be fair though, when I hear 'rock' in the modern sense I think of crap like Nickelback and Three Days Grace. You're much more into the indie rock.

Weirdly, this doesn't really surprise me. I always felt that he was too cool to care what anyone thought about him, even in his younger days.

X is actually coming to my town this year, but it is the same day as the Pac-12 championship game. If my team doesn't make it, this will be a nice consolation prize.
