1971 Season Thread (Classic is over! FA starts tomorrow!)
Spring training and the draft tonight. Draft class is sketchy, but spring training is always a barn burner. Any season previews?

I'll process the trades after I get all of the exports in and that way, I can start running things.

I'll do my season preview after spring training is over like normal. Not fully sure which guys will end up in the big leagues this year until after spring training.
As normal, I'm running mostly young guys out there for spring training to see what shakes out. I have a good 7 positions up for grab out of my 25 this year. |

I think you have valdosta and mine mixed up. i should be 11th and he should be 15th since i traded him comptons pick not atlanta's.

The game doesn't allow me to sift between the picks you have. It just trades the lowest 1st round pick that you still had to the other team. So I have no control over it. It's why I hate draft pick trading.

Should have traded both my picks to him and then trade it back for like a 20th pick or something. Also i should get his LF and he should get
my RF. |

I think draft pick trading works fine when teams just trade their pick to someone else, etc., It's when teams trade the picks of other teams, is when it gets complicated.

Thats fine. If you want to offer it up as a deal I'll accept it. I didn't have Knapp rated that highly though and wouldn't have picked him there, but I would rather there be no hard feelings. I'll just take the hit and get a player I didn't really want. |

I'll make the trade as part of the one you just did, to correct what apparently didn't happen, since technically the deadline has passed.

But in all honesty did you think you were getting my 15th pick or atlanta's? I thought i was sending you my 15th is why i made the deal.

In the furture, i really think we need to remind people once they posted a trade about how the game takes the first pick availible for trade cause this really wasn't fair for Alan.

No, I assumed i was getting your 15th, that is the only reason I offered to swap them. I didn't want Knapp and this basically means I gave up a good MR for someone who was ranked about 50th or 60th on my draft list instead of a top 16 pick is all. I'm a little upset about how it ended up, but like I said, its just a game and no reason for hard feelings as you got the bad end of the stick too. I'm just willing to do the trade to end the frustration for you is all. |

Plus I am eager to see this file and figure out how my team went 17-7 in spring training. I had a 6 man pitching staff where 4 of the starting pitchers are what I would class as career minor leaguers.

Yeah, no way I'm re-running the file. We've already gotten passed this phase. In the future, folks just need not to trade picks from other teams. I can watch out for the draft order, but you'll just have to alert me on draft day so I can be mindful of it, that's all.

He doesn't have the defense I require for a Right fielder, doesn't have the bat I want for a left fielder and doesn't have the range I want for a center fielder. At this point though we'll have to just wait and see how he develops, no big deal. Maybe karma will help me out and I'll get lucky with him. After the way my first pick from last year has gotten absolutely destroyed by the ratings demon, I think I deserve it |

Well as Yogi Berra said... defense is 50% of the game.. offense is also 50%, and so is pitching, that is 50% too. |

Is it possible we could look at the five players picked around where Alan's pick was supposed to be and then edit Knapp's potentials to be of comparable level to the average of them? Not something I would normally want to suggest doing, but that's a pretty messed up situation.

I like my picks. I stacked pitchers high because good ones were rare, and got one of the best starters. Then I got several of the hitter talent (most of which was pretty similar after the first round), and then, as per my usual, I got the two best MRs late in the draft. Only guy I didn't recognize was the 9th rounder.

FTP server is being goofy. I'd rather not move the file to another one, because then people will have to download an entirely new file. So...lemme see if I can get them to fix it.

BTW, not that winning Spring Training means anything good (prior to last year), but no one should read anything into the Rancheros' 10-14 record. As usual, hardly any of the guys getting regular team will be more than backups for the squad this year.

There isn't really anything wrong with his ratings. He just isn't the type of player I pick for my teams. Perhaps in a few years he'll either improve in those categories or he'll be a player that someone else would like enough to get decent trade value for. I'm not too worried about it. If I had known all of this would have happened, I would have rather kept my MR. I chose to trade him as I had the top 16 mapped out and knew I would get one of those for him so pulled the trigger. I think it would be a mistake to start editing ratings because of perceived wronging, that sets up a slippery slope that I would rather not have.. I don't really like the idea of any ratings ever being edited for any reason really outside of the game. Lets focus on the regular season where I'm about to pull a repeat on everyone! |

That was the strategy I used in last year's draft only to see my top two SPs have talent hits after the draft almost immediately... so I chose to go a different path this time (I know it is just bad luck, but figured I would as I have no minor league depth and would rather try to stock it back up with players I could use in a few years) |

Maybe we can trade out talents? Improve Knapp defensively, but drop his GAP/EYE/K rate a bit, or make him a worse base stealer? Or make him older. He can be the oldest player in the class with just a year added.

I do think he needs a nickname though. I'll take that as the only edit I'd be happy with. Can we name him: Christian "Red-headed Stepchild" Knapp ?

P.S. Chief, to cross-league post.. I really need you to win your bowl game in BBCF vs whomever it is (I think UCLA) as the only hope I have now of making my boosters happy is for everyone I faced this year to have good wins, and improve their rankings enough for my final year ratings to get in the top 8!
