The FOFC Keeper League - 2009 Season

Quote:
Tentative Schedule:

July 29th - Owners Meeting. We have three proposals up for voting. They will be posted in this thread and you can post your vote in here.

August 3rd - All keepers are due, leaving seven days before the draft to set a preference list. Remember, we have four keepers this year (QB/RB/WR/Last season rookie.)

August 10th - Draft starts with a 12 hour limit per pick. The draft clock will be active from 10:00 AM EST until 12:00 AM EST. I'm thinking we will setup a dummy league at Sportsline, so we can use their extended draft feature. It has it bugs but I'd rather run it there than over the message board.

August 20th - Draft continues with normal draft rules. Two hours per pick with the clock active from 10:00 AM EST until 12:00 AM EST. You are encouraged to setup a draft list as the Sportsline "robot" tends to favor QB's.

We will be using Sportsline for the draft. It's unfortunate to have to use two sites, but Sportsline is the only site to offer the slow draft that I know of. I hope to have the draft room setup by this weekend.

All owners will need to vote on these proposals. Majority rules. Post your votes in this thread or via private message.

1. Expanding the playoffs. The top three teams in each division would go into the top bracket with the best record getting a bye.
The same goes for the bottom bracket. This would eliminate the middle bracket and. Yes or No

2. Limit the amount of years a player can be kept as a keeper. The amount of years a player can be kept would be limited to three.
This number would be reset if the player is moved in a trade. Also, keeping the player as the "rookie keeper" would count as a year
towards the count. If this proposal passes, 2009 would be the first year to count towards the three year limit. Yes or No

3. Defensive Scoring changes. Interceptions and Fumble Recoveries under this proposal would be revised to two points each. Also,
the points allowed totals would be modified under this proposal.
Shutout = 10
Defense gives up between 2-6 = 7
Defense gives up between 7-9 = 4
Defense gives up between 10-16 = 3
Yes or No

It should be noted that cubboyroy1826 will be taking over for H_B.

Welcome to the league. Feel free to ask any questions.

Would proposal 1 shorten the regular season by a game or extend the playoffs one week?

What happens if we do not have a rookie that we can keep? I assume we'd get an extra draft pick, but where would that pick fall?

Does anyone have a site that has ranked players for the upcoming season? I haven't bought a preview magazine yet and was curious on the take of some of my players...

Obviously I'm not involved in this league, so feel free to just tell me to STFU , but I have a comment on one of your rules:

Quote:
Limit the amount of years a player can be kept as a keeper. The amount of years a player can be kept would be limited to three.
This number would be reset if the player is moved in a trade.

Part 1: Very good idea. Helps keep the draft pool fresh with new blood coming back into it on a rolling basis, which makes the draft more fun. My league does the exact same thing.

Part 2: This many times will defeat the primary objective of part 1. Teams could then just swap their about-to-expire keepers prior to the end of the third season ("many times" being the case because teams making a run at the title won't swap their studs), resetting the clock and keeping them out of the pool for another 3 years. And then 3 years later, do it again, and that player is retiring before he returns to the draft pool. Our league rules state a player may not appear on ANY roster for more than 3 consecutive seasons, including the year originally drafted.

Just my two cents...

I looked at that rule as at least forcing some trades. We don't have much trade activity, and I think I've only made one trade in the history of the league. So at least with this rule, we'd have to search out for the best trade if we can't keep someone again.

That much is true... we've been woeful about trading in this league.

I agree about your second point though, where the top players won't really see a draft again. I just think in this particular league, forcing any kind of trades is good enough right now.

That was my thinking too. Granted this is only my second year, I have been in plenty of leagues where trading has been pretty much non-existent. If a stud never sees the draft again, that at least means that trades have been happening and that is a good thing I think.

Okay guys quick question. Do i have to keep a player at each position? The cupboard at QB and RB are pretty bare for the team. Eli is okay but nothing special and the Colts were obviously not happy with Addai. I am just trying to get a feel for what types of players will be in the draft pool as well.

Nope. You get an extra pick at the end of the draft if you don't. Each keeper basically counts as a draft pick in the last 3 rounds. If you decide to keep only 2, then you get an extra draft pick. If you keep only 1, then you get two extra draft picks, etc.

Yeah, so I think it's worth keeping guys like Eli and Addai, if nothing more than backups. They're better than what you'd get at the end of the draft.

1. Yes
2. Yes (originally I was against this, but I think it gives people some more strategic decisions to make and potentially encourages more trading (as others have stated) which I favor)
3. Yes (modest improvement, but at least better than it has been)

Would people be ok with an addendum for 2. that if a new player takes over a franchise, any keepers in their third year get a one-year extension? The idea being that a team that might be miserable doesn't have to start with really cruddy talent and gives the new owner more options.

Keepers:
QB: Romo
RB: Peterson
WR: Jennings
Rookie: Slaton

Subject to change prior to Aug. 3rd if someone tears a ligament of course.

Finally, feeling like an idiot here, but I cannot find our rosters. When I try to go to last year's league site, it says the league is private. Can anyone point me towards my roster so I can decide on keepers tonight?

Are we still playing on Flea Flicker this year? Or are we moving?

(Just now, trying to find out who is a rookie and check on stats on ff reminded me just how annoying their interface is- I'm looking at my roster in one tab and looking them up in Yahoo as it's quicker...)

Tentative keepers (other possibilities are in parens, but they're for my personal edification). If I don't post anything further, these are my guys:

QB: Tom Brady (Schaub, Hill, Flacco)
RB: Maurice Jones-Drew (Westbrook, Lewis, Rice)
WR: Larry Fitzgerald (White, Hester, Harrison)
RK: Ray Rice (Flacco)

Of course, subject to the same injury qualifications and all...

For cubbyroy and because some folks forgot this past season, repeating this from last season with a minor update:

For the benefit of the newer players, this rule has sometimes thrown people entering the league, it might be of use to clarify prior to drafting (if not, well, it didn't take a lot of time to put together):

Quote:

That means the following lineups for RBs / WRs / TEs would be legal:

2 RB, 3 WR ...or...
2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE ...or...
1 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE

I don't think there would be any other combo of RBs / WRs / TEs allowed.

This means you are not required to field a TE so long as you have enough WRs and RBs
