That name takes me back. Remember getting SI as a kid and would read his columns all the time. His mailbags were great.

Very sad news. He was a great writer. Peter King's occasional updates on his health were nice to see after the strokes. One of the greats.

I would have loved to see his response to the modern analytics revolution. I think that he would have had a lot to add as an old-school guy who always appreciated thinking ahead of the curve.

Damn, didn't realize he was basically unable to talk, write, or walk, for the last 10 years.

Always fun to read, I think a lot of internet sports writers were influenced by his style.

I really loved his annual broadcast team rankings. The guy watched the game differently than most so it was always interesting to read his opinion of different broadcast teams.

Loved reading his articles. I will always remember his one lamenting how QB play had diminished. This was an '88 article, comparing QBs of 88 to ones ten years prior. Looking back, I now think the same way about today's QBs versus the ones from 88! He was a fantastic read. Enjoyed his insight.
