So I was finally able to recover this dynasty and will get it going again....

Divisional Series: Pittsburgh Pirates (91-71) vs. San Francisco Giants (101-61)

The Giants were far and away the best team in baseball this season, 7 games better than the next best team in either league. They had a balanced team, with 4th in runs scored and 4th in runs allowed. The staff was led by ace Tim Lincecum (22-5, 2.55) and the offensive star was Pablo Sandoval (.353, 31, 123).

Game 1 - Jordan Zimmerman vs. Tim Lincecum

Ciccarelli opens the game with a single and steals 2nd, but is stranded on a strikeout and back to back groundouts. Zimmerman has a rough start as 4 of the first 5 batters he faces reached base, leading to two runs. Pirates get runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out in the next inning, but both are stranded. In the 4th, the Giants add to their lead on a solo shot from Jonathan White. With a 3 run lead, Tim Lincecum finds the zone and retires 17 consecutive batters. Lincecum is pulled in the 9th and the Pirates manage a scare by getting the bases loaded, but Clarence Gibbs strikes out to end it. San Francisco 4, Pittsburgh 0

Game 2 - Rich Harden vs. Madison Bumgartner

For some reason, the Pirates decide to sit Ciccarelli for this one and start Gorky Hernandez in CF. He would prove to be ineffective with an 0 for 4 day, but the Pirates did get off to a good start as a Pedro Alvarez solo HR gave them a 1st inning lead. However, Pirates starter Harden gets into control issues in the 3rd inning, walking two batters. Nate Schierholtz makes him pay with a grounder that gets through the infield and ties the game 1-1. Both offenses miss multiple chances with runners in scoring position and it is still tied in the 9th inning. Brock Holt singles to lead off the inning then moves to 2nd on a grounder. Fielder is intentionally walked. Giants 3B Mat Gamel is unable to handle a Jolton Joe grounder, loading the bases with 1 out. Then the Pirates finally send Ciccarelli in the game and on a 1-1 pitch, he doubles to left center, scoring all three baserunners and giving the Pirates a 4-1 lead. Giants get two hits in the bottom half, but a baserunning and two strikeouts seals the game. Pittsburgh 4, San Francisco 1

Game 3 - Zack Wheeler vs. Brad Hand

After an uneventful first inning, the Pirates are the first to get on board in the 2nd when Jolton Joe draws a walk and Hillebrew sends an 0-1 pitch 440 ft for a 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, Sonny walks to load the bases with 2 outs. The Pirates manage one more run on a wild pitch to make it a 3-0 lead. The Pirates add to their lead in the 5th when Brock Holt triples and a Volmert grounder scores him. Meanwhile, unheralded pitcher Brad Hand (5.51 ERA in the regular season) was on fire, going 5 1/3 before allowing a hit. A solo HR by Chris Young ends the shutout bid, but isn't enough to make the game competitive. A Volmert double scores Sonny in the 7th and the Pirates tack on one more in the 9th for an easy victory. Pittsburgh 6, San Francisco 1

Game 4 - Jordan Zimmerman vs. Tim Lincecum

A rematch of the pitchers from game 1 which was dominated by Lincecum. He's not quite as dominant this time, getting through the first two innings but surrendering the lead on a solo HR by Brock Holt. A 70 minute rain delay in the 4th inning sends both pitchers from the game. Ervin Santana comes in for Lincecum and the Pirates immediately threaten with a Joe single and Hillebrew walk. A short Tony Sanchez single loads the bases with 1 out, but the Pirates cannot convert this opportunity. Santana gets into more trouble in the 5th, when he allows back to back walks. A single from Fielder leads to another missed chance when Holt is thrown out at home. A wild pitch sends the runners to 2nd and 3rd, where Volmert scores on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. In the 7th, the attack relief pitcher Evan Meek with a double and a walk. A sac bunt moves the runners to 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Pinch hitter Ehire Adrianza singles and both runners score to tie the game. In the bottom of the 9th, the Pirates get bases loaded again but Joe grounds out and we head to extra innings. Lots of extra innings. The Pirates squander many opportunities, including twice mroe having bases loaded and twice hitting into double plays. The stalemate isn't broken until Josh Mazzola hits a solo HR in the 16th to give the Giants the lead. Volmert, Fielder, and Joe go down in order and the Pirates lose a heartbreaker, leaving the series tied at 2. San Francisco 3, Pittsburgh 2

Game 5 - Rich Harden vs. Madison Bumgarner

In the deciding game, Pittsburgh gets things started when Harden gets hit by a pitch, then scores on a Clarence Gibbs triple. Gibbs scores on a sac fly to make it 2-0. The Giants get one back in the 4th when Schierholtz triples and scores on a Sandoval sac fly. They tie it in the 5th when Mazzola scores from third on a fielder's choice. Two more scoreless innings from the starters and it is 2-2 in the 7th. Holt and Gibbs single, followed by an Alvarez walk to give the Pirates bases loaded with 1 out and chasing Bumgarner from the game. A Jolton Joe single scores one runner to make it 3-2. Then Todd Volmert sends a 1-1 pitch 429 feet for a grand slam home run. The onslaught continues after Hillebrew and Sanchez get on base and Sonny hits a line drive HR to make it a 10-2 lead. Once Harden leaves the game, the Giants feast on relief pitching and pull to within 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th, but Danny Herrera comes in and closes things down. The Pirates advance to the NLCS. Pittsburgh 11, San Francisco 8.
