Same spread of points that Jawouk has would work for Ekeje. And the worst team that's not already taken is fine.

Thank you! I was swamped with work all of a sudden after my last post, so I didn't have time to find the thread myself.

Let's make an offensive juggernaut at Evansville!
COACH: DeShawn St. John
TEAM: Evansville
OFFENSE: 100
DEFENSE: 20

OK, here is what we have as far as coach movement among the MVC and FOFC.

Evansville- DeShawn St. John (bbgunn) is the new coach at Evansville.
Illinois St.- Timmy Tribble (Grover) is taking over the reigns for the Redbirds.
Northern Iowa- Ernesto Lopez (JAG) is the new UNI coach.

And Patrick Hutt (Zinto) has taken the job at BYU.

New developments:

I have removed Shannon Elliott and Rudy Arellano from the game. I created them to get a few more human coaches in the mix, but now that I have opened it up to let you guys have an extra coach, and I have a couple of interested FOFCers for next season (not the upcoming season, but the one after that) I have plenty of human coach interaction, so no need for my created coaches to be in the game.

Also, Barry Hinson has left Southern Illinois to be the new coach at Air Force. Why? I have no idea, but he has. In his place, I have hired Alphonse Mier. He has ratings of 100 in both recruiting and offense, so I think he can do good things for the Salukis (remember, created coaches I have started with level 7 prestige, but any coach I hire to fill an open MVC job could be higher than level 7, just didn't want anybody to have questions about that.)

And that is it for coach movement for the upcoming season. There are 17 MVC or FOFC coaches in the game. We have 7 non-MVC teams that are obviously coached by an FOFCer, and 6 of the 10 MVC teams are also coached by an FOFC member. More to come...

Never fear britrock88, while I did get Ekeje into the game, somehow I didn't get it posted on here. My bad!

Ekeje Bafou has been hired as the coach at UMass Lowell, making our 3rd America East FOFC coach.

britrock88, you'll be happy (or maybe not so happy) to know that not only does UMass Lowell have the lowest prestige of the America East teams, they also have the lowest prestige in the entire NCAA, with a prestige of 4! Ekeje definitely has his work cut out for him!

2018-2019 MVC Coach Hotseat Ratings

Cold Hotseat Ratings

DeShawn St. John (Evansville) -- DeShawn is a new coach to the MVC, so for the first year his seat is cold.

Timmy Tribble (Illinois St.) -- Timmy is also a new coach in the MVC.

Ernesto Lopez (Northern Iowa) -- Ditto.

Alphonse Mier (Southern Illinois) -- Another Ditto.

Cool Hotseat Ratings

Daniel Adams (Indiana St.) -- Daniel had a good first season in the MVC, leading the Sycamores to the postseason. The roster isn't incredibly talented, but I still think they can make the postseason this year.

Luke Hui (Missouri St.) -- The Bears are in a good position, and there's no reason why they can't make the postseason for a second straight year.

Gregg Marshall (Wichita St.) -- The Shockers missed the postseason last year, which might be the only reason Gregg is still in the MVC. He's an incredible coach who easily could be at a higher level job. But, there's a bit of pressure on him, as 2 straight postseason sitting at home for Wichita St. might warm his seat up considerably.

Average Hotseat Ratings

Jawouk Bafou (Loyola Chicago) -- Jawouk led his team to double digit wins again last season, and I realize the Ramblers are the newest team into the MVC which is why Jawouk has gotten so much rope. But.. he can't lose progress. I'm not expecting a postseason appearance for Loyola yet, I think they are still a couple years away, but I think their recruiting is getting better, and I'd like them to stay out of the play-in round of the MVC tournament.

Warm Hotseat Ratings

Alex Donovan (Bradley) -- He is 1 of 2 coaches that need to get it figured out. He's got a couple of guys on the roster that should be All-MVC if they play up to their potential. They have declined in wins the last couple years. If they decline this year, he could be looking at a very hot seat next season.

Randolph Childress -- Another team that really declined last season, and there is absolutely no reason for it. Drake has a roster that should be more than good enough to get to the postseason. I'm not saying it's postseason or bust for Randolph, but there's no reason why they can't compete in the MVC.

2017-2018 Non-MVC Coach Hotseat Ratings

Score Galore (Bryant) -- Even with the season they had last year, which was far better than others, Mr. Galores seat warmed up a little bit. The expectations aren't terribly high, they just need to avoid last place in America East.

Cillian O'Reilly (Maine) -- He is sitting on a nice, cool seat right now, but the expectations are high.. the board would like to see them in the NCAA tournament this season.

Ekeje Bafou (UMass Lowell) -- It is a tough board over there, as Ekeje starts on an average seat already, and UMass Lowell is expected to avoid last place in the America East. Him and Mr. Galore will have some competition to stay out of that cellar!

Roy Rogers (High Point) -- The board would like Roy and his Panthers to finish with a minimum of a .500 conference record, and his seat is average. (I make up my own hotseat ratings for the MVC coaches, as I think the game only actually has cool, average, and warm ratings, which is why so many of the non-MVC coaches have average seats.)

B.B. Gunn (Hawaii) -- Again, the Warriors are expected to be in the NCAA tournament. I personally think they are a season or 2 away, but with the recruiting classes they've had over the past couple seasons, it's not out of the realm of possibility. Again, his seat is average.

Kuji Chagulia (Florida Atlantic) -- No surprise here, his seat is cool. I'm disappointed with the board at FAU though, all they want is for the Owls to finish at .500 on the season. I think they can do better than that. Lucky for Kuji, I have no say in his job status.

Patrick Hutt (BYU) -- BIG things are expected at BYU this season. The board wants to see BYU playing in the sweet sixteen of the NCAA tournament. What a tough goal for a first year coach at BYU. Good luck Zinto!

Nov. 2018 Tournament Wrap-Up

2018 Alaska Invitational

Southern Illinois started off by beating (4) Vanderbilt 66-55, then in the winners bracket semifinals, they beat (1) North Carolina 68-63. Unfortunately, they fell short in the championship game to (3) George Mason 70-54. Still a good run though.

2018 Coaches Invitational

Maine lost their first game to (1) Kentucky 79-61.

Illinois St. lost their first game to (11) Texas Tech 68-58. Ugh!

2018 GDS Classic

Bradley upset (6) College of Charleston 60-59 in their first round game, but then got hammered by (3) UNLV 78-52.

2018 Las Vegas Challenge

Evansville lost their first round game to (4) Texas A&M 90-79, then totally sucked it up against (8) Siena, losing 90-72. They needed OT to get by (7) Penn 93-92 in the 7th place game.

2018 Orlando Classic

Indiana State lost their first round game to (5) Oregon St. 50-44, and also sucked it up against a #8 seed, losing to (8) Cal St. Fullerton 73-54, before rebounding to beat (2) Iona 61-53 in the 7th place game.

2018 Philadelphia Invitational

Drake played (1) Syracuse tough but fell 77-71 in the first round, then in the losers bracket semifinals, lost in OT to (5) LSU, 85-81. They won the 7th place game over (7) Colorado St. 93-89.

2018 Preseason NIT

BYU won their first round game over (11) Belmont 75-72, then lost in the quarterfinals to (3) Marquette 77-68.

2018 Puerto Rico Challenge

Missouri State upset (2) Alabama 82-75 in the first round, but lost in the winners bracket to (3) Tulsa, 75-65. They rebounded to win the 3rd place game over (5) Northwestern 62-53.

2018 Top of the Globe Invitational

Florida Atlantic won their first round game over (2) Tulane 79-76, then lost to (3) Auburn 72-66. They lost the 3rd place game to (4) Rutgers 66-58.

Not a good tournament month for the MVC, who had a 2nd place finish, a 3rd place finish, and 3 7th place finishes in the 8 team tournaments. In the single elimination tournaments, Bradley did pull 1 upset, but Illinois St. dropped the ball, with Northern Iowa playing their tourney in December.

For the non-MVC tournaments, not much to talk about there either. BYU and Florida Atlantic each got a win, but they both needed more. Maine, to nobodys surprise lost their game.

December 2018 saw the Rainbow Invitational, and let's take a look at that.

Northern Iowa started out strong, winning their first round game over (7) East Tennessee St. 78-68, then lost in the winners bracket to (6) UMass 96-85. They also lost the 3rd place game to (1) South Carolina 83-77.

Here are the MVC standings through Dec. 26, 2018

Code:
TEAM CW CL Pct W L Pct RPI Prestige -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Missouri State Bears 0 0 .000 8 3 .727 56 50 Wichita State Shockers 0 0 .000 8 2 .800 76 75 Northern Iowa Panthers 0 0 .000 6 6 .500 73 63 Southern Illinois Salukis 0 0 .000 6 6 .500 108 60 Drake Bulldogs 0 0 .000 5 6 .455 11 51 Bradley Braves 0 0 .000 4 6 .400 26 48 Illinois State Redbirds 0 0 .000 3 5 .375 46 72 Evansville Aces 0 0 .000 3 7 .300 109 61 Indiana State Sycamores 0 0 .000 2 8 .200 142 58 Loyola Chicago Ramblers 0 0 .000 2 8 .200 270 40

Not pretty, not pretty at all. Fortunately, I don't have to worry about losing my job as the MVC AD, as I've signed a lifetime contract to the position. Only way I leave this job is if I resign on my own. But.. we've got to get that conference prestige back up to a 4, and god forbid if we let it drop to 2.

Bradley (Alex Donovan) got that big season tournament upset over College of Charleston. Their other big win was at Kansas. They have played a brutal schedule though, losing on the road to Michigan St., Kentucky, Marquette, and Oklahoma St., all who are ranked in the top 15. Kudos to Alex for playing a tough schedule.

Drake (Randolph Childress) has road wins at Illinois and Missouri, along with a 9 point loss at a top 10 Wisconsin team. They also had those 2 close losses in their November tournament, giving me hope that they will compete in MVC play this season.

Evansville (DeShawn St. John) has also played a fairly tough schedule, getting blown out at Georgetown, and St. Louis, as well as losing by single digits at Oklahoma St. They beat Northwestern at home in their last game, and hopefully that'll spark the Aces.

Illinois State (Timmy Tribble) has beaten Missouri and TCU, but had that opening season loss to Texas Tech, and a 20 point loss to Florida Atlantic. As seems to be the theme with most of the MVC teams, they scheduled tough and had some close losses.

Loyola Chicago (Jawouk Bafou) is struggling this season. They lost their first game to IPFW, but did beat Western Michigan by 22. Their other win came at Illinois Chicago. Losing to teams like IPFW and Oakland hurts though.

Northern Iowa (Ernesto Lopez) had the tough run in the Rainbow Invitational, and had a 3 game losing streak to Washington St., South Dakota St., and IPFW. Yikes! They have, however, beaten Indiana and Notre Dame, both on the road.

Bryant (Score Galore) -- 4-7, 0-0 America East. All of the Bulldogs' 7 losses came in a row, against teams like Marist, Fairfield, and Rider. They don't really have a key win, although they did beat Cal St. Fullerton who is over .500.

Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) -- 1-7, 0-0 America East. The pressure of trying to get to the NCAA tournament may be too much for the Black Bears. Their only win so far is at Furman. They even lost to their former in-conference rival Vermont, and also lost at American. However, they've only played 1 true home game so far, so hopefully getting back home will do them good.

UMass Lowell (Ekeje Bafou) -- 2-9, 0-0 America East. If they could play all their games in the Ivy League, they might be alright. Their 2 wins have come at Yale and at Harvard. Although that streak ended in their last game when they lost at Dartmouth, but hey, what do you expect? They have a prestige of 4.. yes 4! Ekeje knows what he has gotten himself into and is up to the challenge.

High Point (Roy Rogers) -- 7-4, 0-0 Big South. Not a bad start for the Panthers, who have won 6 in a row, including a 25 point win at home against MVC team Southern Illinois. That is definitely their biggest win so far.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 5-4, 0-0 Big West. It's been up and down for the Warriors, who started out on a 3 game winning streak, but have lost 4 of their last 6. They had a golden opportunity to win at Valparaiso but lost by 4. They did, however, smoke Santa Clara by 29. Don't think I have to remind anybody that Santa Clara used to be a fairly strong team in the WCC.

Florida Atlantic (Kuji Chagulia) -- 7-4, 0-0 Conference USA. Wins over Illinois St, South Florida, and Central Florida highlight the season so far for the Owls. Unfortunately they had 2 tough losses in their November tournament, along with an embarrassing loss in their last game to North Dakota St.

BYU (Patrick Hutt) -- This team has shown flashes of greatness. The low is a 20 point loss at Villanova who is ranked in the top 5. The high is a 12 point win at Syracuse, ranked in the top 25. Unfortunately, that 1-3 against current top 25 teams won't bode well come selection Sunday.

Non-MVC Dec. 26-30, 2018

Bryant (Score Galore) -- 4-9, 0-1 America East. The Bulldogs continue to struggle, this week losing a road non-conference game at West Virginia 81-63, then going to Binghamton and losing their conference opener 68-56.

Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) -- 2-8, 0-1 America East. The Black Bears won a non-conference game 79-64 at Rhode Island, then lost at Stony Brook 72-63 in their conference opener.

UMass Lowell (Ekeje Bafou) -- 3-9, 1-0 America East. Only 1 game this week for the River Hawks, who won at UMBC 73-67. Good for Ekeje!

High Point (Roy Rogers) -- 7-6, 0-0 Big South. 2 non-conference games this week for the Panthers, who lost 86-78 at home to Kennesaw St. and lost 86-73 at Virginia Tech.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 6-4, 0-0 Big West. 1 game this week for the Warriors, a 64-54 win at New Mexico St.

Florida Atlantic (Kuji Chagulia) -- 8-4, 0-0 Conference USA. The Owls struggled in their lone game this week, a non-conference game at McNeese St. They did pull out the win 74-72.

BYU (Patrick Hutt) -- 5-5, 1-1 WCC. The Cougars opened up conference play this week, first losing at San Diego 88-82, then winning at San Francisco 84-75.

It's been a long time coming, but Wichita St. is back in the AP top 25 mix, just 1 spot away from actually being in the top 25. Let's hope they continue their run.

Very disappointing mid-major poll, with Wichita St. being the only team even getting a vote. The rest of the MVC and other teams need to step it up. Although I'm unsure what happened to Florida Atlantic, who lost all their votes, even after winning this week? Weird.

Ugh, what a pathetic looking display of standings. We have Wichita St., and then Drake, and then everybody else. If this keeps up the conference prestige is going to drop to 2. Unacceptable, but the good news is it's still early, lots of time for change.

That Wichita State loss to Drake was shocking. It's a nice logjam at the top, but unfortunately most teams were so bad during non-conference play, unless somebody gets hot, I could see less than 5 MVC teams making a postseason tournament.

Still can't believe Drake or Hawaii aren't receiving even 1 national vote.

No surprise that Florida Atlantic lost their mid-major votes, hopefully they can turn it around.

There is still something to be decided between Drake and Wichita St., but they are the only 2 that have a chance to win the MVC regular season. In fact, with Missouri States late collapse, Drake and WSU might be the only postseason representatives this year. Yikes!

Bryant (Score Galore) -- 12-14, 7-6 5th America East. 2 home wins this week for the Bulldogs, as they beat Maine 66-59, then beat New Hampshire 74-65.

Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) -- 9-14, 6-7 T-6th America East. Only 1 game this week for the Black Bears, who lost 66-59 at Bryant.

UMass Lowell (Ekeje Bafou) -- 11-16, 8-6 4th America East. The River Hawks had 2 on the road this week, winning 62-56 at Binghamton, then losing 55-52 at conference leader Hartford.

High Point (Roy Rogers) -- 11-15, 4-9 Last in North Division of Big South. 2 home games this week for the Panthers, who got hammered 84-59 by UNC Asheville, then beat Coastal Carolina 81-73.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 17-7, 9-2 1st Big West. The Warriors keep rolling and have now set the team record for most wins in a season (at least since I started this dynasty). They rolled UC Riverside at home, 68-42, then went to Cal Poly and never looked back, winning 65-46.

Florida Atlantic (Kuji Chagulia) -- 15-9, 5-5 T-7th Conference USA. The Jekyll and Hyde story continues for the Owls, who won both their games this week. First they went to North Texas and won 68-66, then returned home and beat Charlotte 88-80.

BYU (Patrick Hutt) -- 16-9, 9-5 4th WCC. The Cougars continue to split their weekly games, this week beating Santa Clara at home 75-57, then staying at home and losing to nationally ranked Gonzaga 91-76.

Looks like Evansville is in for a long rebuilding period... my goodness.

As for Hawaii... keep it up, boys! And FAU is just going through a down period... no biggie. A second-straight NCAA appearance is in the bag.

Going into the last week of the season, here's what we know... Indiana St. and Evansville are locked into the play-in round, while Drake and Wichita St. will be the top 2 seeds in the MVC tournament. It's still a bit of a question as to who will finish where. However, all Drake needs to do is win 1 game next week, or a Wichita St. loss, either would clinch the MVC regular season title for the Bulldogs. We also can figure that Loyola Chicago will stay out of the play-in round for the first time (I believe), so kudos to them. Still a lot to play for next week.

Bryant (Score Galore) -- 13-15, 8-7 T-5th America East. This week the Bulldogs split, losing 71-62 at UMass Lowell, then returning home to beat Albany 87-73.

Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) -- 12-14, 8-7 T-5th America East. The Black Bears finally showed signs of life this week, playing like they potential they have. They had 3 games this week and won them all. First a 91-67 win at Albany, then a non-conference 69-56 win at NJIT, finishing off with a 73-64 win at Hartford.

UMass Lowell (Ekeje Bafou) -- 12-17, 9-7 4th America East. The River Hawks finished off their regular season this week with 2 home games. First they beat Bryant 71-62, then lost to Stony Brook 73-58.

High Point (Roy Rogers) -- 11-16, 4-10 Last in North Division of Big South. Only 1 game this week for the Panthers, an embarrassing 86-62 home loss to Charleston Southern.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 18-8, 10-3 1st Big West. The Warriors had a lapse to begin the week, losing 62-60 at Long Beach State but recovered to beat UC Irvine at home, 76-73 in overtime.

Florida Atlantic (Kuji Chagulia) -- 15-11, 5-7 T-9th Conference USA. The roller coaster ride continues for the Owls, who lost both their games this week. First they travelled to UAB and lost 76-58, then returned home to lose to Western Kentucky 64-60.

BYU (Patrick Hutt) -- 16-11, 9-7 4th WCC. A tough week for the Cougars, who lost both their games this week, both on the road. First they travelled to Portland and lost 91-79, then lost a shootout at St. Marys 99-93.

I realize that Wichita St. has the consistency of past years to continue to receive votes in the top 25, but it's unbelievable to me that Drake, the conference leader, can't even manage 1 vote in the AP Top 25. Talk about no respect for the MVC.

Not a surprise at all that Florida Atlantic lost their mid-major votes after losing 2 last week. It disappoints me to only see 2 MVC teams receiving votes. A major step back from last year. Hawaii just can't get over that hump and crack the mid-major top 25, but it's a pretty safe bet they'll be extending their season regardless.

Absolutely pathetic to think that the MVC will probably only send 2 teams to the postseason, heads could potentially roll at the end of the season, and I can see multiple coaches losing their jobs. Or maybe not, maybe I'll be the one to lose my job....

Wow. Recovering from 0-5? looks like instead of toughening the team up, our brutal OOC schedule broke our team mentally for a while

Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) -- 13-14, 9-7 T-4th America East. The Black Bears got by New Hampshire in overtime 92-85 in their final regular season conference game, and have 1 more non-conference game next week before the America East tournament.

UMass Lowell (Ekeje Bafou) -- 12-17, 9-7 T-4th America East. The River Hawks had no games this week, instead choosing to rest up before the conference tournament.

High Point (Roy Rogers) -- 12-17, 5-11 T-last in North Division of Big South. The Panthers had 2 road games to finish off the regular season, first winning at Liberty in a wild game, 120-111 in overtime. That game pretty much took it out of them, because they then went to Presbyterian and lost 94-71.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 19-9, 14-4 1st Big West. A split this week for the Warriors, who lost 63-54 at home to Cal St. Northridge, then went to UC Davis and won 86-66.

Florida Atlantic (Kuji Chagulia) -- 16-12, 6-8 9th Conference USA. A split for the Owls this week, who lost at home to Southern Miss, 73-54, then went to Rice and won 78-68 in overtime.

BYU (Patrick Hutt) -- 18-11, 11-7 T-3rd WCC. A good week to finish off the regular season, as the Cougars won both their home games this week. First they hosted San Diego and won 79-46, then they hosted San Francisco and won 81-65.

MVC March 4-10, 2019

1 MVC non-conference game on March 4, let's take a look at it.

Evansville 77, at Manhattan 51

2019 MVC Tournament

2019 MVC Play-in round

(7) Southern Illinois beat (10) Indiana St. 62-54.
(8) Bradley beat (9) Evansville 89-74.

2019 MVC Quarterfinals

(1) Drake beat (8) Bradley 76-60.
(5) Northern Iowa hammered (4) Loyola Chicago 84-64.
(6) Missouri St. shocked (3) Illinois St. 81-54. Wow!
(2) Wichita St. got by (7) Southern Illinois 61-58.

2019 MVC Semifinals

(5) Northern Iowa kept their season alive for at least 1 more game, beating (1) Drake 90-75.
(2) Wichita St. beat (6) Missouri St. 74-51.

2019 MVC Championship

(2) Wichita St. wins yet another MVC Tournament Title by beating (5) Northern Iowa 89-75.

MVC Postseason Predictions

The conference as a whole really needed Northern Iowa to beat Wichita St. to get another team into postseason play. Alas, it didn't happen. Here's where we stand now. Wichita St. will be going back to the NCAA Tournament after missing out last year. Drake should have done enough to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA's, at worst will be a top seed in the NIT, but that would really be a slap in the face to the conference if they get booted to the NIT. Missouri St. is the only other team in the MVC with an overall winning record. That might get them into the CBI or CIT, but no promises. Illinois St., Loyola Chicago, Southern Illinois, Bradley, Evansville, and Indiana St. will be staying home for sure.

Non-MVC March 4-10, 2019

Bryant (Score Galore) -- The America East played their conference tournament this week, which will be covered in the next post.

Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) -- Ditto.

UMass Lowell (Ekeje Bafou) -- Another ditto.

High Point (Roy Rogers) -- The Panthers also played their conference tournament this week.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 20-9, 12-4 1st Big West. The Warriors finished off the regular season with a nice 90-82 win against Cal St. Fullerton and will be the top seed in the Big West Tournament.

Florida Atlantic (Kuji Chagulia) -- 17-13, 7-9 T-9th Conference USA. The Owls split their home games this week, losing to FIU 71-65, but beating Marshall 79-60. They'll be the 10th seed in the C-USA Tourney.

BYU (Patrick Hutt) -- The Cougars also had their conference tournament this week.

2019 Non-MVC Conference Tournaments

2019 America East Tournament

Bryant lost to (3) Stony Brook 78-67 in the Quarterfinals, but has the pieces to continue building a contender.

Maine beat (4) UMass Lowell 62-60 in the Quarterfinals, then were upset by (8) UMBC in the Semifinals. That 15-15 overall record will probably keep them home the rest of the season.

UMass Lowell lost to (5) Maine 62-60 in the Quarterfinals, but I think they can continue to improve.

2019 Big South Tournament

High Point lost 80-69 to (7) Coastal Carolina in the First Round and ends their season on a disappointing note.

2019 Big West Tournament

Hawaii was not only upset, but hammered by (8) Cal Poly in the First Round, 78-53. Never fear though Mr. Gunn, your Warriors should make at the very least the NIT.

2019 Conference USA Tournament

Florida Atlantic played Cinderella in this tournament, beating (7) Western Kentucky 77-65 in the Second Round, then hammering (2) Southern Miss 90-65 in the Quarterfinals, kept it going by beat (3) UTSA 84-57 in the Semifinals, but fell short against (1) UAB 87-67 in the championship. That impressive run got them to the 20 win mark for the second straight season. The Big Dance is unlikely, but the NIT should come calling.

2019 WCC Tournament

BYU lost in the Quarterfinals to (5) Loyola Marymount 61-59 and will have to sweat it out to see if their name is called on Selection Sunday. I can easily see them in the First Four.

2019 Selection Sunday

MVC

Wichita St. is the 11th seed in the NCAA Midwest Region and will take on (6) St. Louis in the Second Round (remember, technically the First Four is considered the First Round these days. Nothing but a technicality really).

Drake is the 10th seed in the NCAA East Region and will take on (7) Drake in the Second Round.

Missouri St. will be the 9th seed in the CIT and will travel to (8) UTEP in the First Round.

No postseason for Illinois St., Loyola Chicago, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois, Bradley, Evansville, or Indiana St.. I do NOT like seeing so many MVC teams staying home.

Non-MVC

BYU, as I predicted, is in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament, and will take on Bucknell for the right to be the 12th seed in the East Region and take on (5) Duke.

Hawaii will be the 5th seed in the NIT West Region and will travel to (4) Eastern Illinois in the Second Round (remember I put the NIT back up to 40 teams, so there is an extra round, and the NIT has byes again.)

Florida Atlantic will be the 6th seed in the NIT East Region and will travel to (3) Pepperdine in the Second Round. Wow, what a journey.

No postseason for Bryant, Maine, UMass Lowell, or High Point.

Damn, so close for Northern Iowa. A strong finish will hopefully attract some talent. Glad to see Bryant more than surpassing their board expectations as well.

2019 NCAA Third Round

(11) Wichita St. beat (3) Boise St. 69-53.

2019 NCAA Sweet Sixteen

(10) Missouri beat (11) Wichita St. 69-54.

A good run for Wichita St., who was the only team of our 6 MVC/FOFC teams to win a postseason tournament game.

2019 Postseason Wrap-Up

It was an even better year for top seeds in the NCAA Tournament, as 3 out of the 4 advanced to the Final Four. The first semifinal saw (4S) Cincinnati beat (1W) Purdue 75-61. The second semifinal saw (1E) Villanova beat (1MW) Ohio St. 59-51. The national championship went to Villanova, who beat Cincinnati 68-59.

Even the NIT put 2 of their top seed in the Final Four, and not a seed lower than 4 this year. In the first semifinal, (2S) San Diego beat (4W) Eastern Illinois 63-55. The second semifinal saw (1E) Temple beat (1MW) George Mason 83-75. Temple then beat San Diego 83-74 in the NIT championship.

Arizona and Iowa played in the best of 3 championship series of the CBI, 2 teams that are really struggling as of late. (1) Arizona won the CBI series 2 games to 1 over (10) Iowa. They lost the first game 48-43, won the second game 52-43, and won the deciding game 61-47.

In the CIT, (3) Denver beat (8) UTEP 79-68 in the championship.

Here's a look at the 2018-2019 MVC Recruiting Rankings:

Code:

Drake Missouri Valley C Gale Brenneman * 0 0 0 0 3

This looks much, much better than last year, as the MVC put 3 schools in the top 100, and another 4 schools at 100-200. Illinois St. picked up the only 4 star recruit for the MVC, and every school got at least 1 recruit. This is a good recruiting year.

Maine had the 141st best class in the nation, good for 3rd in the America East.

UMass Lowell had the 167th best class in the nation, good for 4th in America East.

Bryant had the 298 best class in the nation, which was 7th in the America East.

High Point had the 156th best class in the nation, but tops in the Big South.

Hawaii only had the 218th best class in the nation, good for 4th in the Big West. This is a down recruiting year for them.

Florida Atlantic had the 248th best class in the nation, only 1 team was worse than them in Conference USA.

BYU had the 127th best class in the nation, but the WCC recruited well. The Cougars ended up with the 7th best class in the WCC.

We had some conference movement this offseason. Drexel goes from the Colonial to the Patriot League, and Navy goes from the Patriot to the Colonial.

We had 2 coaches on the hotseat last season that I need to decide what to do with. 1 is an easy decision, the other a little tougher.

Randolph Childress (Drake) improved by 15 wins overall last season, lost just 1 game in MVC play last season, won the MVC coach of the year, and led Drake to the NCAA Tournament. No way on gods green earth do I let him go. He's staying.. unless he gets a job offer and decides to leave on his own.

Alex Donovan (Bradley) has averaged between 9-12 wins a season since he's been at Bradley. 1 season he did finish at .500 with 16 wins. Last season he improved from 10 to 12 wins, but that was after 2 straight seasons of decline. The recruiting has been poor overall, but I am giving him 1 more season. Don't ask me why, but I am.

Coaching movement Round 1

This is as far as I will be going right now, as our own Kuji Chagulia is a wanted man! bbgunn, Kuji has gotten job offers from the following schools:

Bucknell, Central Florida, Columbia, George Mason, Kent St., St. Louis, and Wright St. Let me know if you want any information about any of those schools, as you have a tough decision to make, several of those offers would be tempting for me. Until I hear from you this is on hold!
