Geez, you could go on an upper midwest bus tour and hit almost half of these. That would be some bus tour.

Indianapolis with 2? That surprises me for some reason but I've only spent a couple days there.

Just so you know, one of my pronunciation pet peeves from the D is that Livernois is not pronounced French, lee-ver-noi but instead like liver-noise. It's almost as annoying as pronouncing bonjour bon-jour (rhymes with ron-dour) - it just grates.

There are at least 25 places in this country worse than Camden, NJ? *shudders*

I don't know what the most dangerous neighborhood in NYC is, but to put it in perspective, NYC at a whole has about 5.8 violent crimes per 1,000, and the Bronx (which I assume is the most dangerous borough) is at about 10 per 1,000 as a whole. NYC is near the bottom of cities now for per-capita violent crime.

Yeah - the coasts (East/West) are pretty well policed in comparison to these places I guess. Note also no NJ, nothing in Philly, nothing in CA, etc. All seems to be concentrated in the Midwest and South.

Camden manages to keep their violent crime more spread out instead of contained to a few neighborhoods.

The Atlanta one is a few blocks from Lakewood Amphitheater (i.e. the major outdoor concert venue here).

Having driven that area many times, nothing remotely surprising about seeing it on a list like this.

I'll take the $2,000 house.

Hell, I'd even take a $20,000 or $40,000 house. You can't buy a fucking parking spot here for that.

That intersection is 4 miles from the house I lived in from 1975 until 1982.

I can confirm that area has pretty much always been bad.

I'll also note here that, while it isn't an MLK Street/Blvd, it is just a couple of blocks from Rhodesia Avenue

I worked in Detroit for about four years. During one of my last remaining weeks my car got broken into. There's a number of great things about the city. There's also a great number of places I won't go to at night.

Yes both of the St. Louis ones border good old MLK drive.

The #22 one is right to the North of the Edward Jones Dome. Most tourists don't realize how close the sports stadiums and entertainment district are to trouble.

I work the midnight shift in Detroit. Luckily, I work in a secured building with onsite parking. The downtown area in Detroit is not bad. I don't fear attending games at Comerica Park, Ford Field, or events at the Fox Theatre. The downtown in Detroit is pretty much surrounded by three freeways (M-10, I-75, and I-375) with water on the fourth side. As long as you stay in that area and are not looking for trouble, you should be ok. I don't mind driving down there, but I try to stick to the freeways.

Just thinking it is ironic about the talk in this thread about some of these areas being near MLK drives. A man who dedicated his life to peaceful protest, now has his name on streets near some of the worse violent crime areas in the country.

Not surprised at all about Memphis being well represented (most of that city is a hell hole), but Nashville having an area? Little shocked.

I remember seeing something on some show on some channel this one time (so you know what I'm about to say is absolutely 100% true!....I think it was an episdoe of Gangland) that during the evacuations of New Orleans because of Katrina, a lot of the more shady type people ended up in Houston and because of that, Houston has had a big jump in violent crimes over the last several years.

Not surprising really. There are parts of Nashville as bad as Memphis. The difference in Nashville is all the nice suburbs compared to Memphis.

I lived in both places. There was no where (expect maybe Beale Street and other tourist-y areas) that I felt safe. Heck, there was a murder every other week in front of my grocery store. There was never a place I went in Nashville (including right near the major public housing section) that I ever felt unsafe.

Eh. Lived in Dekalb county in my youth(with the constant police helicopter hovering over my house because the store two doors down got robbed every two weeks), lived in Memphis with gunfire to rock me to sleep. Nashville's most dangerous neighborhoods seem "quaint" to me. Heck, the best parts of Brimingham seems way more dangerous than anywhere in Nashville.

I think 23 and 12 are the same neighborhood in Memphis (or I would have considered it when I went to HS there).

I'm pretty sure "First 48" just keeps a film crew there all the time.
