this is the third consecutive week my beloved Cardinals play a non-Sunday afternoon game. This one is pretty important for them with Seattle leading the division. Cards pretty much playing for a wild card should they lose here.

Is it blasphemous to think the Bears will win tonight? Something is wrong with Rodgers and the Bears' offense has been rolling even though they've been losing.

I've got bets down for +7.5 and for +290 straight up. The only thing giving me pause is it's a Thursday game and GB is at home.

I think somebody (Czaban?) earlier in the year noticed that the refs are hardly ever calling for measurements, and pretty much just ballpark placements and first downs. I think there's something to this.

Not throwing the ball deep at all. Just everything under 10 yards.

The quick short throws are working but there isn't a run game so the Bears know what's coming. Cobb could be the difference tonight

I wonder who will be the first ref to come forward and admit the league instructed them to give the benefit of the doubt to certain teams in any way they could. It has gone beyond bad officiating this year and into the realm of questionable motives, at least for me.. And I don't usually get into conspiracy stuff. There have been an incredible amount of head scratching calls this year, to the point I can barely even stomach watching football anymore. The whole product feels like an inconsistent lie.

It sucks to spend your whole life adoring something and then watch it change for the worse like the NFL has since Roger took over.

There's never been a time that FOFC didn't think officiating was the "worst it's ever been". I still think officiating is just a lot harder than people think, and we see more and more at home every year with more cameras and better-quality television definition. Just like the players, they're going to make a lot of mistakes. And there's also plenty of judgment calls which will feel incorrect to fans of the team the call went against.

I've never bought that the NFL has a motive to rig games when weighed against the risk of that. Put the existence of a billion dollar company in the hands of part-time referees and hope they stay loyal? Why? Just so the Packers can win a Thursday night game against the Bears (that they're probably going to win anyway)? Why is that so important?

Edit: The owners are such a huge part of the what the NFL is, maybe more than other sport. Who inside the NFL is going on their own, against that power structure, and betraying NFL owners by rigging games for them to lose? Does this come from Goodell, and if so, why does he care who wins a random Packers/Bears game to the extent of having this conspiracy against the owners and the fans and everyone who does business with the NFL? How much better off is the NFL today that the Packers won that game (or any other particular game)? And specifically, what does NFL management gain, as opposed to the teams, who the conspiracy would have to be against - (unless you're saying the Bears are in on it too)? If the Packers winning somehow gains them more TV money, the teams and owners would be getting the bulk of that money, not NFL management.

I don't know if the measurements thing is a way to influence outcomes (though it certainly COULD be used that way), but I do wonder if there's been an effort to eliminate them to 1) move things along a bit and 2) recognize that ball placement isn't the most accurate thing to begin with, and there's no need to scrutinize it (replay) as often, showing how inaccurate it can be. Better to just gloss over things, award the first down, and move the game along. Better for offense anyway.

I can see that. Measurements always seemed silly anyway. They're doing an exact measurement for a ball and a stick that were placed as an eyeball judgment call in the first place. Plus you can easily see if a ball is across the line in 99% of situations. (Maybe it's tougher at field-level, I don't know). And it seemed like coaches were traditionally requesting measurements as a way to take an uncharged time-out, maybe the refs have just cut back on granting those requests.

I also wonder if people are just looking for things to support a conspiracy. Is there actual data or a league statement about cutting back on measurements?

What a clusterfuck this turned into. From Mara saying he knew he abused his wife to McAdoo coming out in support of him hours before they reverse course.

The NFL implemented a six-game suspension for domestic violence cases in 2014, though a player has yet to be punished for six games. The policy allows for aggravating circumstances that can make the suspension longer or mitigating circumstances that can make it shorter.

In an interview with BBC Sport on Friday, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said, "We take this issue incredibly seriously. This is something we've been working on with policy changes, to educating our players to make sure they understand how they deal with issues with their family, give them resources to be able to deal with this. But when it happens, we're not going to tolerate it. So we have some new information here, we'll evaluate that in the context of our policy, and we'll take it from there."
What a friggin joke. Maybe if Kraft had done nothing the NFL would've put Aaron Hernandez on the exempt list and we could've avoided that cap hit too I know Goodell is a puppet of the owners and does a perfect job being the magnet for criticism, but it's time to get a new figurehead and give the appearance of change.

Josh Brown needs to be suspended for life and I said the same about Ray Rice. There shouldn't be any tolerance for domestic violence. Brown only got a slap on the wrist because he is white.

Nonsense. Ray Rice got a slap on the wrist until the video came out. If there's no physical evidence, the NFL will hide behind that. Has nothing to do with race.

Pretty simple, they have all sorts of deals cut with the NFL. They've rapidly expanded their relationship since the league launched an official channel less than two years ago.

Concussion for Norman. Got beat on a deep ball, barely, and whacked his head pretty hard on the tackle. His eyes were rolled back as his body rolled over after the tackle.

Redskins made too many mistakes early. Out gained Detroit 415-344, had the ball for 34:56, but two early fumbles and a missed FG were the difference.
