The Cubs are calling up Addison Russell tomorrow who is apparently going to play 2nd base. Lots of eyes on the young guys on the North side right now.

If Russell does well, there's giong to be even more trade rumors involving Castro flying around.

But Baez's spring was a disaster (on top of last year) and his sister recently died so he has been MIA in the minors. I think he has gone from potential all-star to likely bust. Since they don't have a major league 2B I could see Russell there until a new plan is put in place or Baez gets his head straight.

The meltdown by the Reds manager last night was epic. Reminded me a lot of the Hal McRae meltdown minus the phone throwing.

It was almost as good as former Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear, who once started out a press conference thusly.

"Which one of you is Simon Hunt?"
"I am."
"You're a c***."

Tough to say -- they haven't given him a lot to work with. Patchwork pen, old left fielders, bad contract for your star, aging has been at second, and some guys who aren't living up to potential everywhere.

He's probably not a manager. That said, not sure he has had a great shot at proving himself.

The appeal of Herrera's suspension is going to be interesting to watch. They made it clear that his gesture had nothing to do with the suspension (shocking that they didn't believe Lawrie), but the number of games for a reliever is unprecedented.

I'm good with it as long as this shows a shift in how MLB will handle people throwing at batters going forward.

As for no punishment for Lawrie trying to severely injure a player, it's ridiculous. If you watch all the take-out slides from that series by the A's, the Lawrie incident sticks out like a sore thumb in regards to how high his cleats were and the distance he slid through the bag. All the other A's slides stopped at the bag and shoes were on the ground.

I hope they don't trade Castro. I think he's finally growing up to the point where we won't see the ridiculous brain farts he's shown in the past. And, for as much crap as he gets, offensively he has done very well in his first few years.

Russell should be a much better defensive shortstop than Castro and a better overall hitter. If Russell sticks (and IMO he's the best of the Cubs prospects) I expect Castro to be moved this offseason. Between Alcantara and Baez they should be able to figure out 2nd base.

Epic response swing by Bautista tonight. Lawrie should take some notes on how you handle a ball whizzing behind your back.

Another great comeback win by the Royals. Last seven wins have been come from behind victories. Awfully fun to watch.

Whether or not they have given him a lot to work with, his rant was borderline nonsensical. It was certainly very old-school... and I feel like we had enough old-school with Toothpick.

Note to Price: If you want the local sports writers to "work with you, here" then probably don't blow up at them in a public forum, intentionally embarrass them, and make a national story out of it.

Secondly, the B.S. statement that "we didn't even have time to tell so-and-so that he was being called up" just makes you look lazy and incompetent. The Cincy paper can publish a news story before you have time to make a phone call?

Giants take the first two from the Dodgers in epic trolling fashion.

First game, Dodgers hit into roughly 85 double plays and the Giants had roughly 17 infield singles.

Tonight, Dodgers lose a protest of a non-call on Aoki going out of the baseline to avoid being picked off, then the umps completely miss the winning run coming into contact with the third base coach the play before he scores in the bottom of the ninth.

I will totally take this in what looks to be a very long year.

Terrible question to ask.

But how long has Rob Neyer been at Fox Sports? He seems to have a significantly smaller following than he had at ESPN.

He had a bad 2nd half in 2014. But still, he should be somewhere, you'd think.

An interesting viewpoint making the rounds. Chris Rock on why baseball isn't capturing African Americans:

Chris Rock Gives a Strong Take on African-Americans and Baseball | Bleacher Report

Some of what he says makes perfect sense. While tradition can be fun and interesting, for African-Americans 'tradition' meant a separate league or Jim Crow. And these unwritten rules take out the fun, the celebration, in the game. It makes it come across as 'sit straight, don't make a fuss' and thus boring (as Rock says you have to play it the 'right way, the white way').

I know some will disagree, but I thought it adds to the discussion.

I think you're allowed to celebrate more in baseball than college or NFL football. Just not when you're running the bases.

Looks like the end might be here for Joe Nathan. Hurt his arm yesterday throwing in a rehab stint, and he'll have to have a 2nd Tommy John surgery. Since he's already 40, there likely isn't much left in the tank.

Mets finished off a 10-0 homestand today. Apparently they're the 7th team in the modern era to finish off a 10+ game stand undefeated.

Yeah, the one common factor in all this is the Royals, Occam's Razor states it's the Royals who are the issue, not the rest of the league

So the Royals have 9 ejections this year.. The other 29 teams average 0.55 ejections.

Recaps aren't saying much in the way of details so: was there some history with Eaton/Ventura previously or something?

I mean, okay, earlier one guy got hit from each & teams were warned ... but barking something or other at a guy who just tapped back to the mound seems kinda random.

No history really, but from what I've been reading there was a lot of jawing between teams in that inning leading up to that.. Saw some things about Samardziga yelling at Colon from dugout.

Also read something that said from other angle you can see Eaton yapping at Ventura first, apparently unhappy with a quick pitch... No idea if that's true though, haven't seen it and either way Ventura needs to chill the hell out soon.

Ventura needs to take the dickishness down a notch or two.

Royals are turning into a team for everybody to hate. Go back to being loveable, guys.
