Scouting report from http://users.adelphia.net/~leboss25/nfl_draft_home.htm
1.1 The Cincinnati Bengals select QB Carson Palmer
Interviw with the GM, scooper I think Palmer can be worthy of this pick. I hope they (we) let him sit a least a year. I watched him carve up a few teams this year and he has the size and skills needed to succeed. He is very strong and accurate. He is coming from a pro style offense in college similar to what he would run (here) in Cincinnati. This is a case of the best player at one of my needs, but not the biggest need. Scouting report. Great size. Can make virtually all the throws needed in the NFL. Tosses a nice deep ball and rarely misses a slant or WR screen. Has better mobility than people give him credit for; and throws great on the run. Palmer has only played at this level for one year. Has been hyped for along time. But this is the first year he has lived up to it. Palmer's senior season will likely outweigh his previous three mediocre efforts. Stays in the pocket, not afraid of taking the big hit. Heisman Trophy Winner. Last edited by wrigleyfield : 02-02-2003 at 02:12 AM. |

Detroit Lions select Charles Rogers. WR. MichSt
Interview with GM detroit_fan Mr. Rogers is my man. We need a big time receiver to go with our young QB. I think the fact he played college ball in state is not bad either. WR Charles Rogers. Michigan St. Outstanding, mature, big play receiver who can school corners. Makes the acrobatic reception, can out-jump defenders and get deep downfield and make the grab. Shows up for the big occasion. Goes after the ball hard. Not much shies me away from Charlie Rogers, Elite prospect. Added 10lbs in off-season without losing the 4.3 speed. Underclassmen, Jr. had like 13 games in a row w/a TD. |

1.3 Carolina selects Bryon Leftwich
Byron Leftwich QB 6-6, 240 Marshall As good an arm as you'll ever see coming out of college. Unbelievable strength yet has great touch on deep balls. Always throws tight spirals on a rope. Rarely misses receivers short. Has a good pocket presence. Not mobile like a Culpepper but can run you over and maybe make a move or two. Showed up in Marshall's biggest game of 2002 against Virginia Tech, even though his receivers didn't. Great leader. Had one of best comebacks you'll ever seen against East Carolina in GMAC Bowl in junior year. A gutsy effort after leaving for the hospital in the 2nd quarter against Buffalo and coming back in the 4th to lead team to a TD and having his OL carry him down the field. Hasn't played great competition week after week in the MAC. Made some very nice throws on one leg in the GMAC bowl. His OL wasn't very good so he was forced to stay in the pocket and take a hit and he made some beautiful throws with men in his face. If his leg is 100% he is top 5, if not, he slips some. |

1.4 Chiefs select DE Terrell Suggs, Arizona St.
Interview with GM sterlingice While we thought it was unlikely that we would be able to trade up, especially with no 3rd round pick this year (due to the Willie Roaf trade), I think this is for the best with this team. Suggs fills a huge hole and joins Eric Hicks, Ryan Simms, and whoever else steps up on the defensive line. Drafting 16th we might have picked Woolfork or Trufant who would be adequite DBs but the chance to get an impact player like Suggs doesn't come around every day. If the Chiefs defense had been merely mediocre instead of the "32 Defense", Kansas Citians affectionately referred to them as, they would have easily made the playoffs. The ideal plan for the Chiefs this offseason would be to keep the offense the same (after restructuring Green's contract). On the other side of the ball, a young defensive line anchored by Simms and Suggs would decimate for years to come. The return of Pro-Bowl safety Jerome Woods (lost last preseason) along with two free agent signings (a decent corner and a linebacker with a little speed) would go a long way to getting the Chiefs to the playoffs next year. (This is less fun as I am out of mock draft picks now but I got the man we need the most!) Terrell Suggs, DE, Arizona St. A junior who has decided to leave early for the NFL. As quick as first step as you will ever see. If he over pursues, he will get right back in there with his speed. NCAA Sack record holder. Some compare to Dwight Freeney, but Suggs is a lot bigger than Freeney. Has gotten stronger since last year and has added 28 pounds since his Freshman season. Obviously has the tremendous outside rush, but needs a effective inside move to counter to speed rush. Has an inside juke move that he uses before the OT can get his hands on him. Needs to use his hands eventually, that won’t get it done in the pros. Surprisingly strong on his bull rush. Doesn’t do much against the run, usually a stale-mate. Dallas selectes Terrance Newman
Interview with GM Cuckoo There is little reason to delay this pick. Although troubled by controversy and doubt over high profile positions such as Quarterback and Running Back, it is highly unlikely those concerns will be addressed by this fifth pick. With the absence of a sure thing at either of those positions, Dallas must look seriously at their other and numerous needs. I see the most important and desperate needs at corner, offensive line, and a dominant pass rusher. I was easily able to remove offensive line from this equation despite the fact that it is arguably the Cowboys' biggest concern. I don't feel there is a definite NFL impact player on the offensive line worthy of the fifth pick. Therefore, I was seriously contemplating and weighing DE vs. CB. This decision was made for me, however, when Kansas City traded up in the draft to select DE Terrell Suggs. That left me with one easy answer for the fifth pick. Terrance Newman will fill a vital role on an already fairly potent defense as a true shut-down corner and immediate contributor. Terrance Newman, CB, Kansas St. Track star. He is raw but has tremendous upside. Runs 4.29 forty and 10.22 in the 100m. Outstanding cover corner with ever improving skills. Will catch up to everyone and anyone he is playing against. Also a tremendous punt return man. Played Wr, Kick returner, and ofcourse CB outstanding, helping his team win the hoilday bowl |

**Arizona latter deals Johnson to San Diego
Arizona seclects WR Andre Johnson Interview with GM sporrer With the 6th overall selection in the 2003 NFL college player draft, the Arizona Cardinals select, WR Andre Johnson, of Miami (FL). Johnson is a big (6'3" 220 lb) WR, that has 4.45 speed, and can make big plays. Are top 3 Wideouts are all free agents, and whose to say that they'll stay there with QB Plummer a FA as well. Therefore, I felt this pick was a good one for their need, and for value. He is a top pick talent for sure. (If I was more confident their top two would be back, I would have gone another route, but I am just basing this on the fact that they will need a top WR if they let Sanders/Boston go.) Andre Johnson, WR, Miami Only a junior but have be Sr. QB Ken Dorsey's favorite target. Great speed for his 6'3'' frame. Can stop on a dime , can make the tough catch and can stretch the field. Johnson is the Big East 60 meters champion and has been timed in under 4.3. Super combination of size, speed, and hands. Legitimate 6'3 frame and super speed. Runs track for the Hurricanes. With 1st round receivers Reggie Wayne and Santana Moss catching everything in sight, Johnson didn't get a chance to show his receiving ability on a consistent basis until last season. Johnson has good, natural hands. He catches the ball at its highest point and snatches the ball out of the air. Last edited by wrigleyfield : 02-06-2003 at 11:09 PM. |

Minnesota selects Jimmy Kennedy
Interview with GM WSUCougar Well, it's nice to have a 330-pound monster like him drop into our laps at #7. I would have been happy with CB Newman at this slot as well, but we'll count our blessings and run with them (or in this case, stuff the run with them!). Talked a little trade, but nobody wanted to pull out the big guns and blow me away with a major offer. I'm happy, and so is Chris Hovan. Jimmy Kennedy 6-5, 335 DT Penn St. Huge prospect who could have been a top 15 pick last year, had he declared. Surprisingly agile and quick for a man his size, which separates him from other defensive tackles. A whole stopper in the Sam Adams mode. Will have a bright NFL future. Super size. Surprising quickness off the snap and has a 2nd gear when the ball is near. Has the size and strength to handle double teams. The classic two gap run stuffer that won't wow you with his statistics, but will take up blockers in the middle, freeing up his middle linebacker to seek and destroy. His total tackle numbers improved from 42 to 51, his sacks dropped from 6 to 1.5, and his tackles for loss dropped from 9 to 8. That said, Kennedy would have been a 1st round choice last season had he declared. |

Scouting report from http://users.adelphia.net/~leboss25/nfl_draft_home.htm
Jacksonville Selects Jordan Gross OT 6-6, 310 Utah
Interview with the GM. Well, after many a negotiation with quite a few different teams/people, I actually couldn't find any takers that would give me a reasonable offer. I was debating between quite a few different players with this pick... QB's - too high to pick one, same for WR's.. And on Defense, I liked a couple of the DE's, but again, I could not do what I really wanted to do which was trade down and pick up one of these guys, as well as another pick, at that time. Marcus Trufant also piqued my interest.. Hell, I think everyone did actually.. In the end though, the Jags need some kind of replacement for Mr. Boselli at Tackle. Now I'm not saying Gross will be another Boselli, but at this point he looks to be a lot better long term prospect than the current Jags at that position.. Jordan Gross OT 6-6, 310 Utah Very aggressive and mean. Good run blocker but not dominant. Good feet for his size allows speed rushers to be maintained. Played some OG as well as OT. Will crush the DE if the gets him off-balance. From what i have heard, the kid plays real hard, has a mean streak to go with talent. Last edited by wrigleyfield : 02-03-2003 at 02:46 PM. |

we have a deal! San Diego trades their current pick, #15. but there not moving down, there trading up. thats right, trading with Arizona.
San Diego gets the #6 selection WR Andre Johnson Arizona gets the current pick #15 overall, and San Diego's 2nd #46 overall. As commissioner I’m allowing this deal. While it’s very unusual to see a draft day deal after the pick has been made in the NFL, it happens very often in NBA drafts. As along as the player is not signed there are no salary cap concerns. So my ruling is unusal but legal. Last edited by wrigleyfield : 02-06-2003 at 08:59 PM. |

The Denver Broncos select, with pick (20)
Jerome McDougle DE, Miami. New defensive coordiater Larry Coyer is charged with the respnsibility of making our defense more aggressive and McDougle's puss rushing skills would certainly help with that and relieve some pressure from a mediocre secondary. McDougle was close to the top of our board and fills a massive need, his only knock is being a bit undersized - but that shoud complement our current DL. I wanted to trade down and get a lower 1st round pick and select a DB - but he might be available for our second round pick so I went against that after failing to o a deal with the 49ers.

23 Atlanta Falcons Celeval
Spent a day and a half thinking about this pick. The trouble is that the two best players on the board as I see it are at positions where the Falcons are confident in the players they have. That said, with the 23rd selection in the draft, the Atlanta Falcons select: WR Brandon Lloyd, Illinois With signs pointing more and more towards the Bills placing the franchise tag on Peerless Price, the Falcons look to the draft to get Mike Vick a target. Lloyd is a fourth-year Junior out of Illinois, 6-1, 180. Senior Year Statistics: 65 catches, 1010 yards, 9 TDs The Good: Big play wideout that possesses a lot of natural skills. Good feel for the game, stays on the same page as his quarterback and displays great body control. Extends to make the difficult catch in contorted positions, uses his body to shield away opponents and shows a willingness to go up in a crowd for the ball. Quick in and out of his breaks, looks the ball into his hands and catches the pass away from his body. Has nice speed and consistently makes plays deep into the defensive secondary. The Bad: Not strong and gets held up at the line by jams. Though he gets down the flanks, does not own the second gear or the deep acceleration. Last edited by Celeval : 02-10-2003 at 05:46 PM. |

The Steelers take QB Kyle Boller, California.
Pittsburgh really needs secondary help, but I think that taking one of the available DBs here is a bit of a reach (plus I think that they're going to make a run at Tebucky Jones if New England doesn't slap the transition tag on him). My head tells me that the Steelers probably wouldn't take a QB here, even if Boller falls this far....but I think that they need one...
