Tuesday, September 1st, 2043: August's Best Batter Announced
Free agent-to-be Hugh Thompson has inflated his asking price over the past 30 days by winning the Republic League Batter of the Month.

In August, the 33-year-old Ann Arbor right fielder hit .424 with 6 home runs and 19 RBIs.

If he keeps putting numbers like that up, he could be hauling in a big wad of cash at this time next year.

Thus far this year Thompson has hit .367 with 25 home runs and 112 RBIs.

Tuesday, September 1st, 2043: Red-Hot Hammersmith Rookie Rated RL's Best
The Republic League has made it official -- Luis Gonzáles is the winner of the Rookie of the Month award.

During August the Hammersmith first baseman was outstanding with a .340 batting average, 4 home runs and 20 RBIs. Gonzáles also had 4 walks and posted a .392 on-base percentage.

Tuesday, September 1st, 2043: Beltrán Wins Rookie of the Month
Luis Beltrán is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In August the Tokyo hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .325 average with 25 hits, 2 home runs and 12 RBIs.

This season Beltrán is swinging the bat at a .290 pace. He has hit 22 home runs and scored 63 times, while driving in 72. His on-base percentage is .347 and he has played in 111 games.

Sunday, September 6th, 2043: 3 Bombs for Luis Bloemheuvel
The fans at Rebels Ballpark witnessed Luis Bloemheuvel write his name into the league record book with three home runs, but the Chico Rebels still dropped the decision to the Hyannis Patriots 6-3.

He spoke with reporters after his historic day and told them, "I've always loved hitting in Rebels Ballpark. You can see the ball so well. I'm glad I got the homers, but three hits and a win would be nicer."

For the day he collected 3 hits in 4 at-bats, scored 3 runs and had 3 RBIs.

L. Bloemheuvel hit a solo-shot off C. Ayers in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off C. Ayers in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off C. Ayers in the 8th.

In 125 games Bloemheuvel is hitting .303 this season for the Rebels with 144 hits, 23 home runs, 65 RBIs, 57 walks, .419 OBP and has scored 111 runs.

I guess we can safely call this a career year for Bloemheuvel, a 31 year old free agent that was a last minute signing on April first by Chico. He hit only .109 last season in part time play for Edmonton

Tuesday, September 15th, 2043: Hitomaro Okamoto Hits #300
It was a great day for Hitomaro Okamoto, but not a good one for his New York Heroes. The 28-year-old right fielder reached a personal milestone with his 300th career homer, but it wasn't enough to beat the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines, who came away with a 9-6 victory. Okamoto finished the day with 2 hits, 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored.

"Well, I've conceded the fact that you can't will yourself to hit a home run," he said. "I tried hard for the last few days. It was getting to be embarrassing with the crowd standing up every time I came to the plate."

A check of his lifetime stats shows Okamoto has a career .331 average with 1710 hits, 332 doubles, 36 triples, 300 home runs and 1015 RBIs. To date he has scored 923 runs, walked 349 times and stolen 63 bases.

After his 28-3 season I expected him to be a bit more dominant than he has been.

Velásquez's record up to now is 11-and-3 with 4 saves and a 4.83 ERA. He has given up 131 hits in 128.2 innings with 102 strikeouts.

Thursday, October 1st, 2043: September's Premier Pitcher Announced By CL
Whether Francisco Correa stays in Napa Valley beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In September the 29-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

He put up some fancy numbers with a 6-0 record and and an ERA of 2.68. In 47 innings he struck out 33, surrendered 52 hits, 2 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 6 starts last month.

Currently Correa has a 22-10 won-lost record in 38 starts with a 3.35 ERA. He also has 156 strikeouts in 282.1 innings.

Thursday, October 1st, 2043: Gallagher Goes 6-6
Players get multi-hit games all the time. But a 6-hit game only comes around once in a blue moon. It happened at Ballpark of Colorado when Ken Gallagher of Colorado scattered 6 hits all over the ballpark against the Chico Rebels.

He walloped 6 hits in 6 at-bats in his career-day performance to help the Rancheros get by the Rebels 14-9.

In a talkative and jovial mood after the game, the third baseman of the Rancheros exclaimed, "Whoa, my swing was really, really there today. I made some good, sweet-spot contact and when that happens... good things happen... like 6-6. I could get used to a lot of days like this one."

K. Gallagher hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off K. Sharpley in the 9th.

Looking at his stats this year, Gallagher has compiled a .297 batting average, while hitting 31 home runs and driving in 120 runs. He has played in 153 games and scored 83 runs.

26th member of FOOL's 400 Home Run club!

Monday, October 5th, 2043: Juteau Gets #400
There was a big sigh of relief by Dave Juteau after he hit his 400th career homer. The Tokyo first baseman told BNN, "Whew. I'm glad it's over... now I can go back to just playing baseball."

It was quite a day for Juteau. He got his name in the league record books, 1 hit, 1 run batted in, scored 1 run and his team, the Tokyo Cyclones beat the Apex Assassins 7-2.

Juteau knew it when he hit it. He raised his hands in the air, then ran the bases like a high school player clapping and grinning.

He told reporters in the post-game interview, "I was acting goofy running the bases... but it was my 400th home run."

"It was great," his manager said. "He stood there and watched it... we all did. You just felt it was coming... you just had a sense he would hit it soon... he has been having a lot of good at-bats. It was great to get it out of the way."

During his career Juteau has hit .308 with 2290 hits, 400 home runs, 1380 RBIs and scored 1261 runs.

Tuesday, October 6th, 2043: Betancourt Hurls Hammersmith to Shutout Victory
New York bats were ice cold today at Ballpark of Hammersmith. Hammersmith's Vicente Betancourt chilled them down with a 6-0 victory. In a fine outing, the 31-year-old hurler allowed 2 hits while striking out 7 and walking 1.

So far this season Betancourt has a 20-4 record with a 3.42 ERA.

Sunday, October 11th, 2043: O'Rorke Sizzles with 25-Game Batting Streak
Long hitting streaks don't happen very often and when they happen it perks up everybody's interest. No one knows how long it will go -- it could end tomorrow - but baseball fans and Jesse O'Rorke are enjoying the moment right now. The 23-year-old New York third baseman extended his string to 25 consecutive games in New York Grounds today. O'Rorke got 1 hit, but the Chico Rebels got the victory. They toppled the Heroes 6-4.
J. O'Rorke flied out in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th and flied out in the 8th.

To date this year O'Rorke is batting .308 with 6 home runs.

Albert Moya sets a new single season record for innings pitched with 332.0 IP.

He breaks the 34 year old record of 317 innings pitched that was previously held by Trevor 'Electric' O'Brien of Colorado back in 2009!
