Wow, am I stuck with a very very bad contract since Sam "Wahoo" Crawford has taken some huge talent hits. There is 18 million down the drain! This is why I love free agency!

I don't really know what to do with my team. It's not very good and I don't really like any of the free agents either. I do have some cap space though, so if you have a type a/b player that's getting too expensive I would be willing to take him on in a trade. Everyone on the Royal Giants is available.

It looks like I won't have any problems staying under $64.5 million, as there isn't anyone worth eating up my available cap on...

I threw out a bunch of contracts at guys just to spend the money. I ended up spending big money to bring back my 2B F. Isbell. Didn't see anything better out there and I figured he would be just as good as whatever draft pick would become available due to him.
I missed on a few guys that the Giants snagged, but I didn't really offer a ton for them so figured that would happen. |

It wasn't because of money that they signed with me...They chose the classier organization!! I would never publically announce that I signed a player because I "Didn't see anything better out there"..... Pixulated electronic pulses have feelings too!!!

That is also the error DC would see if for some reason your export didn't take either. Thanks to OOTP9 being notorious for missing imports/exports, I got in the habit long ago of checking the export tracker after every export just to make sure it is there. |

I looked on the server and Team 8 (that's Washington) was from the 14th of September, which would make it old. So I dunno what happened, but it didn't end up on the server. But...I've deleted all of the old files off of there now (anything earlier than the 16th) and so, when you upload the newest one should be there going forward. |

For some reason the game is not showing a supplemental pick I should have received from the signing of Christy Matthewson last year on 3/2/06 by the Yankees. I have their first round pick but not a supplemental pick.

This is an interesting issue that is actually kind of complex.. There are multiple levels of bugs all at play in your issue here.. The good news is in the next patch I believe most or all of these are fixed. Basically the main issues involved here though is technically if he was signed on 3/2/06 which was the same day as the draft, he shouldn't have had his Type-A tag any longer. In the next patch this is fixed where players no longer keep compensation tags for years if they remain as free agents. The other issue is we found cases where players when signed at certain points, the compensation picks were not being sent over correctly. This also is fixed in the next patch from what I can tell thus far. The last issue is that there isn't a way for Dark Cloud to manually add another supplemental pick to the sandwich round there. So I'm not sure how DC wants to handle this but there are a few different mindsets you can have on this issue... you can be ecstatic that you got a pick from the Yankees that in the next patch you wouldn't have gotten.. or you can be mad that you didn't get the sandwich round pick I suppose. |

So perhaps we should move the draft to the end of March then so we don't lose out on compensation?

Or, as alan said, you could be happy you got a pick at all, since I purposely signed him at the time I did thinking his tag was cleared, so yeah.

Well yeah, and I basically picked more prospects off Alan for him this offseason than ramora pick....ok, this analogy ran out of steam. But still, I got a 3 for 1. Bleep the draft pick.

No. The draft will stay where it is because it works best for the schedule. That's why we moved it in the first place. You did get some compensation and that's better than nothing. So let's just roll with it. Speaking of rolling, lemme get a file to you all, eh?

I think four teams ended up playing their first game of the season when I simmed to the start of opening day (and the game must've let them play since that 25 men on the roster.) My apologies for that. But consider this a chance to make those last minute tinkers and if you somehow finish a game out at the end of the year, well...my bad.
File is up. Season export due tonight. |

Just wanted say that I understand Eddie's concern here. If he was due a pick he was due the pick. Just because it was a accident doesn't mean the rules should be lifted for it. Now don't get me wrong here its no ones fault not DarkClouds, Tim's, or Eddie's. Saying that he should be happy getting anything isn't fair. The rules are rules for a reason. There wasn't anything that could be done about it and thats fine to say. Making it out to be a no big deal just isn't fair. Please don't think I'm trying to make a big thing out of it. I did have to say my peace though because thats just what i have to do. Please Please don't be mad because i said anything.

But the only reason he was "due" a pick was because of a bug in the game. That's the counter-argument here, the guy was not signed until after the compensation period was up. The point of the draft picks and compensation is to give you a chance to bring your guy back. If you aren't bringing him back in a timely manner, and no one else wants him bad enough to offer early enough, then there is no reason for a pick.

Doc McJames, a 4.5 star rated reliever, is still a free agent. The season has begun. Should I really get compensation if someone were to sign him? Thats ridiculous.

Those aren't even close to being the same comparison, but there is no sense in discussing it anymore because it's a moot point it's over and done with and it can't be undone.

Its an exact comparison. Christie Mathewson was hanging around the FA list because no one wanted him. I signed him for LESS THAN 1.5 millon dollars. We shouldn't be leaving all star caliber talent on the free agent market because people are afraid to lose first round picks. If Christy Mathewson was so important to you, you should have signed him. If you were over the cap, you should have planned better if he was so important to you.
The strategy here is, go after a desirable guy early, if you feel he's worth the pick. Once we get to March, we should (and it will be so in the next patch, according to Alan's info) be able to have at it. Christy Mathewson shouldn't be sitting around not playing. I don't care about losing the pick. I got the league record for victories and he carried a big portion of the load. I got 3 solid prospects for him after I re-signed him. Its no skin off my nose if you had gotten a sandwich pick too. But to moan and groan that a first round pick a year later wasn't ENOUGH compensation for you making no effort to sign him, is weak. I fervently hope that one of these Type A guys will accept arbitration instead of going on the market one of these days. THAT will be hilarious.
