Rogan Tabbed NL's Top Rookie
Sunday, May 1st, 1910: For a young man just making his way into the National League, Joe Rogan has shown incredible poise and confidence over the past month, netting him the coveted Rookie of the Month Award.

In April he fashioned a 5-0 mark and a 0.82 ERA. The St. Louis starter struck out 2 in 11 innings as he walked 1 and held opposing batters to a .261 average.

American League Names Rookie of Month
Sunday, May 1st, 1910: New York's Jay Kirke collected 41 hits to snare the American League Rookie of the Month for April.

He batted .347 with 1 home run, 20 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

The 21-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

Mathewson Chosen April's Best NL Hurler
Sunday, May 1st, 1910: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Christy Mathewson still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 29-year-old starter for Boston was named National League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 7 wins and 1 loss with 34 strikeouts in his 9 starts, putting up a fine 3.11 ERA in 72.1 innings of work.

NL Spotlight Shines on Rookie Star
Wednesday, June 1st, 1910: Dutch Zwilling earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the National League for last month's performance. The boyish Boston center fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Zwilling hit .344 with 5 home runs, 24 RBIs and 31 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

This year Zwilling is batting .323 with 7 home runs. He has scored 47 runs and driven in 41.
AL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Wednesday, June 1st, 1910: Joe Riggert is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest American League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Philadelphia hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .292 average with 26 hits, 1 home run and 14 RBIs.

Riggert has collected 49 hits for the Athletics this year, 4 of them home runs. He has also netted 34 RBIs and scored 29 runs while batting .278.
NL Announces May's Best Starter
Wednesday, June 1st, 1910: May's #1 hurler was Christy Mathewson of Boston. He gunned down National League hitters the whole month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award. The Beaneaters star piled up 7 wins and 2 losses to take the honor.

The 29-year-old Mathewson added 44 strikeouts in 84.2 innings and 13 walks to his season record and compiled a 2.55 ERA. Other clubs hit .265 against him.

To date this season, Mathewson has registered 19 starts, 14-3 won-lost mark, 2.81 ERA, 157 IP, 78 strikeouts and 28 walks. Opposing teams have hit .274 against him.

June's Outstanding NL Rookie Announced
Friday, July 1st, 1910: A veritable toddler to the National League, Dutch Zwilling just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Over the past month the 21-year-old center fielder for Boston hit .327 with 37 hits, 3 home runs and 32 runs batted in. He also logged 12 walks and compiled a .389 on-base percentage.

This year Zwilling has socked 111 hits in 342 at-bats for a .325 average with 10 home runs. He is getting on base at a .386 pace and his totals also include 73 RBIs and 63 runs scored.
June Sensation AL's Best Rookie
Friday, July 1st, 1910: Youngster Jay Kirke emerged as the latest American League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from New York deserved the honor, batting .356 with no home runs and 14 runs batted in. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Kirke enjoy the limelight.

Kirke is hitting .309 so far this season with 46 RBIs and 48 runs scored. He has 113 hits including 2 home runs, 11 walks and .326 OBP.
Dowling June's Best Hurler in NL
Friday, July 1st, 1910: It was a monstrous June for the National League Pitcher of the Month award winner, Pete Dowling of the Boston Beaneaters. He put up some mighty scary numbers.

Dowling recorded 6 wins and 1 loss in 9 starts. Throwing a total of 76 innings, he yielded 71 hits, mowed down 34 on strikes, gave up 23 walks and put up a solid ERA of 2.96 in a stellar month on the mound.

In 27 starts this year Dowling has recorded a 14-6 record and a 4.14 ERA.

NL Names Boston's Zwilling Top Rookie
Thursday, September 1st, 1910: The premier National League rookie in August was Boston's center fielder Dutch Zwilling.

Last month he played in 29 games and hit .336 with 5 doubles, 2 triples, and 7 home runs. Zwilling also scored 27 times and drove in 23 runs.

This season Zwilling has delivered 180 hits in 560 at-bats for a .321 average with 19 home runs. He is getting on base at a .383 clip and his totals also include 113 RBIs and 111 runs scored. This year Zwilling has played in 135 games.
Kirke Selected August's Top AL Rookie
Thursday, September 1st, 1910: Jay Kirke was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 22-year-old second baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen August's American League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 29 games Kirke batted .378 for New York, slapping 48 hits in 127 at-bats with no home runs, drove in 15 runs and scored 19 times.

So far this year Kirke is hitting .330 with 2 home runs.
August's #1 Hurler Announced: St. Vrain
Thursday, September 1st, 1910: The National League Pitcher of the Month honor has been given to Jim St. Vrain of Cincinnati for a superlative month.

"I actually never wanted to be a pitcher," St. Vrain told reporters when asked who he credits for his pitching ability. "I was an outfielder until high school and on the third day of tryouts my coach came up and said, 'Son you couldn't hit a lick even if we put it on a tee for ya.' Well, that ticked me off, so I decided if I couldn't hit I wanted to make sure no one else could either and so here I am."

It all turned out for the best as the Cincinnati starter notched a 6-1 record with a 3.30 ERA last month. He made 7 starts and struck out 25 in 60 innings.

This season in 34 starts Jim St. Vrain has a record of 19-10 with 106 strikeouts in 257.2 innings and a 4.12 ERA.
