i think he was making sure all the imports are working before we had a big event like arbitration. and from the report it looks like everyone is good, except for the people who did not submit.

Mine was wrong date as I didn't need to change anything from my export from the day before. I'm guessing others were like that too. I'm sure we'll have more exports on the next sim |

Typically when you see a wrong date error it's not a mistake. It means that the most recent file for that team on the server is not up-to-date. Usually it's because there was no export (nothing to do) but sometimes it's because the owner forgot to update the file before exporting. In either case there was no issue with the file import. When you see just an error then it could be a problem. |

Good god these top FA's are looking to break the bank. I have money to spend but I don't want to put 17.5 per year into a guy.

I agree the salaries are astronomical. I really wanted to extend Crawford but he wanted 17M. He's asking for 19.5M now.

Well it surely livens up Free Agency I guess! I guess the question we'll need to ask is after another season or two if players keep asking for his much if we need to see if Dark Cloud wants to tweak those back just a bit. At the start of a new league, salaries are always wacky because there is so much extra money floating out there, free agents will ask for it simple as that. With four teams under $40 mil payrolls and 9 teams with $15mil+ of cap room, that is likely causing players to ask for the moon here. Once those teams use more of their payroll and less money is available, OOTP should scale back how much players ask for automatically some. |

Your log shows my export was good, yet none of the changes I made are reflected.

No, there is no new file up. My guess is since DC didn't post that it was up yet that he might have lost connection mid-sim or something last night (internet issues or such). |

My internet was wonky all night and it stopped working as the file was going up. I'm uploading it now.

Oh, fairly left Brooklyn too. The speed of the league was just too much he says and he's been telling me that for a while that this format is too quick for him and he'd like a two-week version better.
So anyway, we appreciate him playing. But now we need a new Brooklyn owner.

Looks like I pulled the file before the new file was updated. All of my changes are reflected. Sorry for crying wolf, DC.

Buckinbranco has agreed to take over Brooklyn despite his hatred of the Dodgers. They might never change names so maybe he can ignore their Dodger future. But...that said, welcome this veteran FOOL to the FOOL-H fold!

I'm excited to be joining the fun in FOOL-H. I'm going to feel dirty managing the bums, but I couldn't resist the temptation to be in another league with you guys/gals. At least this way I'll be able to celebrate even when we lose

Quick question on the Gambo DB. I'm on a Mac and I'm wondering if you have any idea where I should put it...I know it's not necessary, but I'd like to get rid of that annoying message if possible.

That is actually a good question. I wish I knew anything about MACs at all. The database is in the league file as a C:\whatever path\GamboDB so I would assume that you would have to put it in that same place. But MACs don't have a C: drive for a path, so not sure how it would handle that. Perhaps in the mac version, it changes the path to be something mac friendly, but since we can't see that unless you are on a mac I have no idea there either I'm not much help am I? What I -really- should do is log a bug that this is occuring at all. |

Actually, looks like this was logged as a bug back in ootp2007. Just re-opened that bug, lets see how much I annoy people.
Either way Buck, you can just ignore that popup message it won't hurt anything. If I can find out how to get rid of it for you, I will! |

Hmmm, Yankees have a TON of cash left. Should I lowball a few guys or blow one out of the water?

Making a draft list in OOTP X sure is a pleasure compared to 9.

QUICKIE American League Preview:
I think there is a chance, if I don't screw it up, that I have used my wallet to become a serious contender this year. I find it hard still, despite experience in a slow paced league set in the first half of the 20th century, to judge pitching in the dead ball era. Every pitcher seems to have 10 movement, and 10 stamina. Its hard enough to know what difference 7 stuff versus 8 makes, in future leagues, but 2 or 3? Who knows. I think my front 3 of Wadell, Ewing and Young will be very strong. Gibson has had success but never started, so I'm possibly gambling with him in the 4 hole. I've demoted my former closer to setup, and promoted Gene Wright to the end of my bullpen, barring a nice draft acquisition. Offensively, I have a LOT of high contact/eye guys, enough that I can platoon several positions lefty/righty and also set up rotations. My FOOL teams always seem to fade, and I have taken to prioritizing depth, now I need to learn how to set up to use it. So much for the Yankees. Who else looks good? League champs the Whales have Honus Wagner, so they will be dangerous. 3 hole hitter Jimmy Collins managed 96 RBI despite a paltry .713 OPS simply by virtue of hitting behind Wagner the runs-created machine. The Red Sox have a potent duo in Stahl and Devlin near the top of their order, and if newcomer Mowrey can live up to his hype and improve on his AAA campaign of 04, he will make a solid contribution too. I believe the Orioles had best have enjoyed their prominence in the 04 regular season. Short of pitching and defensive wizardry, Donlin and Hartsel this year may be hungry for guys to drive in. I'm not sold on Maloney as a table setter. If the Tigers play "small ball" they could cross the plate often enough to improve this year, while Louisville will continue that style of play. Lousiville and Washington go into spring training with very thin benches. By contrast, Philly looks deep and again looks threatening to me. Pitching let them down in 04, a campaign in which they were in the back half of almost all of the pitching metrics, notably giving up more homers than any AL team except the Senators. Their ballpark is a launching pad, which begs the question of whether that means you should load up on offense, or REALLY emphasize pitching. PREDICTED ORDER OF FINISH: 1. Chicago 2. New York 3. Boston 4. Philly 5. Washington 6. Louisville 7. Baltimore 8. Detroit Philly could easily win it all, and any 2 of the top 4 could emerge in the end. I see more of a gap developing between haves and have nots this year in the AL, with 3 or 4 sub-80 win teams and possibly 3 or 4 90+ winners.

Would it be possible for me to rename the Brooklyn Robins the Brooklyn Royal Giants? The Royal Giants were a Negro League team and would not remind me of the Dodgers every time I look at my team. Here's a possible logo.

File is up.
The season sim deadline is tomorrow night (Friday) at 11p. So there's no sim tonight. I'll sim the season after that and then we'll do the post-season the following night. Good luck! Last edited by Young Drachma : 09-03-2009 at 08:55 AM. |
