1912 FOOL-H Season Thread (and Postseason!)
Jack Norworth wrote the lyrics to "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" in 1908, but didn't go to his first major league baseball game until 1940. Albert Von Tilzer wrote the music for the song, that was one of the breakout hits that year. Von Tilzer didn't see his first MLB game until 1928. National League Names Rookie of Month
Wednesday, May 1st, 1912: Tilly Walker was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 24-year-old center fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's National League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting. In 28 games Walker batted .374 for Philadelphia, slapping 43 hits in 115 at-bats with 4 home runs, drove in 17 runs and scored 14 times. AL Selects Rookie Star of the Month Wednesday, May 1st, 1912: A veritable toddler to the American League, Lee Magee just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April. Over the past month the 22-year-old second baseman for New York hit .385 with 42 hits, 1 home run and 25 runs batted in. He also logged 5 walks and compiled a .402 on-base percentage. Cincinnati Starter Wins April's Pitcher Award Wednesday, May 1st, 1912: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Earl Moore still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 32-year-old starter for Cincinnati was named National League Pitcher of the Month earlier today. He collected 5 wins and 3 losses with 31 strikeouts in his 9 starts, putting up a fine 3.57 ERA in 68 innings of work. |

Nap Lajoie did it again. He bashed 1 hit in today's game and for the last 34 games in a row has collected at least one hit. The 37-year-old St. Louis first baseman extended his streak as the Cardinals beat the Boston Beaneaters 5-4 at Sportsman's Park. N. Lajoie grounded out in the 1st, hit a two-run triple in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, grounded out in the 8th and grounded out in the 11th. I'll run the postseason later this morning (I know someone will say..but it's morning now?!) because I literally just finished a client project and I'm completely out of it. Well and I figure the suspense of crowing a champ in real time might be a bit worth it for a few...
Anyway, see you all in a few hours. |

Here's the schedule for this week, I've tried to stagger it purposely to a point where we have a regular schedule that we can repeat each week, so we know when to expect what, etc.
