Thursday, May 1st, 2177: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 27-year-old Juan Silva put together a solid offensive month for Colorado and was crowned April's top batter in the Republic League.

Thursday, May 1st, 2177: Steve Lee took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for April.

The 27-year-old Assassins starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-0 won-lost record in 5 starts. This month he fanned 29 batters in 33.2 innings and compiled a 1.87 ERA.


Vachon Nets RL #1 Pitcher Award
Thursday, May 1st, 2177: Raymond Vachon is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Republic League Pitcher of the Month for April.

He made 11 relief appearances for Hartford last month, throwing 15.1 innings and collecting 5 saves, a 3-0 record, 9 strikeouts and a 1.76 ERA.

Thursday, May 1st, 2177: Luis Luna moved to the head of the class today as the 26-year-old second baseman for Cleveland bagged the Continental League Rookie of the Month trophy for April.

Over that stretch Luna batted .403 with 29 hits in 72 at-bats, collecting 1 home run, 11 RBIs and 9 runs scored.


Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Thursday, May 1st, 2177: Harry Halliwell is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

CL Best Hitter Award to Noblesville's Fabián Gómez
Sunday, June 1st, 2177: Noblesville's Fabián Gómez had a productive May and topped it off by winning the Batter of the Month citation from the Continental League.

The 21-year-old shortstop stood out at the plate with a .379 batting average, 7 home runs, 25 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Red-Hot May Lands Davis Batting Prize in RL
Sunday, June 1st, 2177: The Republic League Batter of the Month has been chosen for May and the trophy was presented to Jason Davis of the Montreal Royals.

He stood out this month with a .322 batting average, 37 hits and 5 home runs, along with 19 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

Sunday, June 1st, 2177: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Luis Sánchez still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in May. The 33-year-old starter for Cleveland was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and 1 loss with 43 strikeouts in his 7 starts, putting up a fine 1.31 ERA in 41.1 innings of work.

Checking out his stats for the season, Sánchez has registered 8 wins and 1 loss in 13 starts, 2.17 ERA and struck out 73 batters in 74.2 innings.

Sunday, June 1st, 2177: Rafael Martínez was the anchor in the Hammersmith bullpen last month and snatched up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors for May. The 28-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 14.2 innings over 11 relief appearances and collected a 3-0 record with 13 strikeouts and 5 saves while etching his 1.23 ERA.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Sunday, June 1st, 2177: Ken Whitaker's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Apex second baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .356 with 5 doubles, 2 triples and 2 home runs. Whitaker also scored 11 times and drove in 11 runs.

This year Whitaker has socked 43 hits in 130 at-bats for a .331 average with 3 home runs. He is getting on base at a .428 pace and his totals also include 16 RBIs and 20 runs scored.


Muñóz Heads the Rookie Class
Sunday, June 1st, 2177: Youngster Francisco Muñóz emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Hammersmith deserved the honor, batting .321 with 9 home runs and 23 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Muñóz enjoy the limelight.

On the season, Muñóz is batting .299 with 10 home runs and 34 RBIs. He has played in 41 games.

Baltimore's Gamboa Bags CL Batting Award
Tuesday, July 1st, 2177: Pancho Gamboa battered Continental League pitchers all June and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 27-year-old Gamboa told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 24 games, Gamboa hit .354 with 5 home runs, 20 RBIs and scored 23 runs.

This season in 78 games Gamboa is batting .324 with 20 home runs, 65 RBIs and has scored 56 times.

Tuesday, July 1st, 2177: It's a time for celebration in Hartford as Jesús Cruz has just walked away with June's Republic League Batter of the Month award.

He socked 32 hits in 85 at-bats to put up a .376 batting average, 9 home runs, 27 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

This season Cruz is hitting at a .304 pace with 11 home runs, 46 RBIs and has scored 37 times.

Tuesday, July 1st, 2177: Bernardo Bermúdez has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in June and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Winter Wolves bullpen ace collected 6 saves and 17 strikeouts in 15.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .164 average and posting a 0.00 ERA and a 3-0 record.

This year Bermúdez has 19 saves. In 31 relief appearances he has hurled 42 innings, fanned 48 and given up 12 walks with a 6-2 record. The Halifax reliever has recorded a 1.29 ERA and allowed the opposition to hit .161 when he is in the game.


RL Selects Laughren June's Best Pitcher
Tuesday, July 1st, 2177: Walton Laughren doesn't think about his career all that much. He doesn't fixate on yesterday and he doesn't worry about next season -- he has learned to worry only about today.
That attitude, coupled with no saves in 15 relief appearances netted the 23-year-old reliever June's Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy earlier today.

The Colorado reliever pitched 20 innings, struck out 24 and walked 6 on the way to a 5-0 mark and a 2.70 ERA.

To date this year Laughren has fashioned a 3.43 ERA over 57.2 innings with a 10-1 record. He has made 43 relief appearances with 60 strikeouts and no saves.

Dailey Selected June's Top Newcomer
Tuesday, July 1st, 2177: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Ted Dailey just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Over the past month the 25-year-old first baseman for Halifax hit .278 with 27 hits, 4 home runs and 18 runs batted in. He also logged 5 walks and compiled a .314 on-base percentage.

This year Dailey has 7 home runs and a .285 batting average.

Friday, August 1st, 2177: When all the votes were counted for the Rookie of the Month in July, Luis Luna of the Cleveland Cyclones was on top of the pile. The standout second baseman rifled hits here, there, and everywhere in Continental League ballparks the entire month to win the honor.

The 26-year-old second baseman took the trophy by putting up a .330 average and .402 on-base percentage, 29 hits, no home runs, 12 RBIs and 10 runs scored.

Luna is swinging at a .319 pace on the year with 1 home run, 46 RBIs and 41 runs scored. He has played in 100 games.


July's Best Rookie Trophy Awarded
Friday, August 1st, 2177: Ken Stout was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 25-year-old designated hitter definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen July's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

Monday, September 1st, 2177: Robinson Romero has made a definite impact on the baseball world by snatching Continental League Batter of the Month honors for August.

Sánchez Earns August's Best Pitcher Honor
Monday, September 1st, 2177: Luis Sánchez's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-1 in August, the 33-year-old Cleveland hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 35 in 43 innings, logged an ERA of 2.09 and allowed opponents to hit .256 against him.

To this point in the season, Sánchez shows a 17-5 record, 31 starts, 183.1 innings, 167 strikeouts and a 2.41 ERA.


Royals O'Rourke Named RL's Best Pitcher
Monday, September 1st, 2177: As Randy O'Rourke hoisted up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy for August, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Montreal once his contract is up at the end of the season.

O'Rourke put pressure on the Royals to keep him around by posting a 4-1 record and an ERA of 1.21 over 37.1 innings last month. He also rolled up 27 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Montreal and to every other team in the league.

In 25 starts this year O'Rourke has recorded a 15-7 record and a 2.08 ERA.

Dailey Picked CL's Premier Rookie
Monday, September 1st, 2177: The premier first-year player in the Continental League last month was Ted Dailey. Halifax's first baseman put up some big-time numbers in August to haul in the Rookie of the Month Award.

Dailey hit at a .274 clip while collecting 3 home runs, 11 RBIs and scoring 8 runs in 22 games.

Dailey is batting .277 with 13 home runs and 53 RBIs this season.


Ortíz Earns RL Rookie of Month
Monday, September 1st, 2177: In August Manuel Ortíz swatted his way to the Rookie of the Month Award in the Republic League by putting up a .317 batting average.

The Toronto Marlboros left fielder also racked up 33 hits, 4 home runs, 22 RBIs and scored 17 runs.

Wednesday, October 1st, 2177: Prospective free agents love to have hot streaks and Mark Bradley is no exception. The Cleveland first baseman capped off a fine month by hauling in Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League.

In September Bradley hit .345 with 16 home runs, 41 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

Wednesday, October 1st, 2177: The most recent Republic League Batter of the Month trophy was awarded to center fielder Guillermo Sánchez of the Montreal Royals.

Wednesday, October 1st, 2177: It's a rarity when someone out of the pen gets recognition as the Republic League Pitcher of the Month, but that's exactly what happened today as Toronto reliever, Gabriel Hurtado, earned September's title.

Wednesday, October 1st, 2177: Ken Whitaker was voted the best newcomer in the Continental League for his solid performance last month.

In September, the Apex second baseman posted a .366 average while racking up 26 hits, no home runs and 13 RBIs.

Looking at his stats this year, Whitaker has compiled a .285 batting average, while hitting 3 home runs and driving in 50 runs. He has played in 136 games and scored 59 runs.
