WW XCIX: Seville High, Book Two: The Janitor Lives!!! Game Over - Blakekin Win!!!!

Hello folks and welcome back to the WW game that is the coolest. This game is a sequel to my Short Game, Seville High, Book One, which at a whopping 8 pages, should definitely keep you up all night. You can find it here. Reading it is not required, and just for fun (WW Small Game: Seville High, Book One: The Janitor of Death - GAME OVER, Blakekin Win - Front Office Football Central)

This was initially designed to be a quick game based around new and various roles and such. It was not intended to be a complex set of rules or anything like that, just a lot of fun. I think that game reads really well, and so, I decided to hammer out some rules for Book Two of the Seville High series.

A new teen novelist has decided to create a new series of books for pre-teens called Seville High. Book One – The Janitor of Death sold pretty well. Although the storyline was a bit formulaic, the fact that the villains won was interesting to audiences. As such, the writer has been retained to write Book Two – The Janitor Lives!

You folks will be assigned roles in the storyline, and will be asked to play those roles in the thread. There are no major rule innovations here, just a fun storyline and some fun write-ups. Instead of Day and Night, the storyline is divided into chapters. Odd numbered chapters feature attempts by the students of Seville High to find the Blakekin. Even numbered chapters feature attempts by the Blakekin to kill another student, and those special students who may be able to find or stop them one on one.

(If it helps, just think of Chapter One, Three, Five, Seven, etc as Day, and Chapter two, Four, Six, etc as Night).

Odd Numbered Chapters will have a deadline of 9 pm EST
Even Numbered Chapters will have a deadline of 1 am EST

I expect the game will start on Monday, Jul 20th, but that could get pushed back if 24 goes long.

The story so far

Blake McKenzie was the local school janitor at Seville High. He had a creepy voice that sometimes cracked like someone going through puberty despite his advancing age. He was caught after hours in his “office” that he had appropriated in the boiler room with several samples of child pornography. Although he claimed that he had just found it in his room, and someone must’ve planted it there, nobody believed him.

He was summarily fired from his job and quickly kicked out of his home by his almost deceased mother. While wandering the streets at night, a truck driver hauling toxic waste fell asleep at the wheel, and Blake was caught in the waste. His body slowly dissolved into a toxic-Blake stew.

The local town and the kids at Seville believed that was the last they had seen the last of Blake until two years ago they found the words, “I Have Returned” painted hastily in his handwriting down it the boiler room. It was apparent that Blake has possessed one or more students at Seville High and the students set about to find him.

After several days, the students were largely unsuccessful and those possessed by Blake were released as his spirit found justice in the deaths of eight students. That was in 2007 and Blake McKenzie has not been heard of in Seville High since.

Until yesterday. Yesterday Mrs. Hambrick went missing, and it was not until last in the day that someone thought to check the old boiler room. There the watch of Mrs. Hambrick could be seen in the old boiler, half melted, as well as the crispy wrist bone the watch was still around. Inscribed on the room wall, in Blake’s handwriting, was the words “Vacation Time is OVER.”

Now a new group of students forms to take out the Blakekin threat. Some of YOU have been possessed by Blake McKenzie. Most of you have not.

Roles and Characters

Every player will be randomly assigned to a character. Some information about that character will be made public in a post entitled Dramatis Personae. Please post in character, because it’s fun to read! You are not required to post in character, and there is no penalty for failing to do so, nor is there a reward for doing so, it’s all just a bit of fun.

In addition to each character’s public information, there may be some secret character information. You may NOT reveal any secret character information in Chapters One and Two, but may do so at any time afterwards, if you desire. For example, if you secretly have AIDS, then you could not reveal that until Chapter Three or later, if you wanted to. This is teen angst after all.

In addition to your characters, there will be roles assigned to some players through random chance. The roles will be assigned separate from the characters. Just because you are a jock does not mean you will get the body guard role, it will be random.

Unlike the first game, which was designed to be very player friendly, in this game I will be giving you a list of roles included ahead of time, but I will also be adding about 10 or so extra roles, so that you do not know exactly what is what. The Blakekin will be given a list of roles in the game prior to play beginning, so that they know.

Blakekin can kill only, that's the only action they can take as a group, although individuals may have other powers.

No way to scan as anything other than what you are - Neutral, High School, Blakekin - Nobody scans as something they are not.

Good luck!

Additional Rules:

Nightfall votes must be unanimous AND I must get the okay via pm from the Blakekin telling me it’s alright to run the Chapter early. Only odd number chapters are eligible for nightfall.

During odd numbered chapters, you must Vote Someone in bold. Please place it in a separate line or paragraph. You may only vote for one person.

You do not know how tie-breakers are resolved.

Make sure you do not edit posts. Only I get to do that.

Enjoy yourselves!

Dramatis Personae:

Amit Patel – You are a senior and on the way to valedictorian. You have been working to be valedictorian all of your high school career. Because of your obsession with classes and grades, you don’t have many friends, nor much time for socialization. Your family is among the richest at Seville High. You are the brother of Sasha Patel.

Sasha Patel – You are a junior. Your stuck-up brother is an asshat. No one likes the guy. You love the hip-hop beats and you hang around clubs when you get chances to sneak in. Your grades are passable and your parents make a metric ton of money, but you prefer your friends don’t know, although of course, they all do. Your father bought a Thunderbird for your 16th birthday. You are the sister of Amit Patel.

Caitlyn O’Conner – You are the school cause célèbre. You are always finding some new topic to make your obsession. The trees are dying! Animal rights! Homelessness! You consider any liberal cause to be the good fight, and you are willing to fight it with articles in the school paper and getting petitions signed. This will sometimes get you in trouble. You are currently dating Claude Clawson.

Claude Clawson – You are a dramatic person. You sometimes wear older style clothing from the 1920’s and 30s. You participate in the school plays but find it painful to be in another’s guise. You sometimes suffer from bouts of depression. You are Caitlyn’s boyfriend and are currently worried about fur coats and the use of furs. The two of you are going to a rally this weekend.

Sarah Dickerson – You are a feminist and a tomboy. You believe that anything a guy can do, a girl can do too. You are the captain of the Girl’s Softball team and you work as a mechanic in your dad’s garage. You have never had a date, and although you think it’s because you intimidate men, frankly, it’s because you look a bit too boyish for most guys to handle. You are teammates with your Vice Captain of the softball team, Hannah Gironi.

Hannah Gironi – You hate school so much. Everybody is so pretentious. They all try to be something because they have to backbone to say to others, Hey, this is me, deal with it! You have totally dealt with it. You are a member of no clique, because you have better things to do with your time. You are the Vice Captain of the Girl’s Softball team, because you are the best pitcher in the Division AA in the state. You like Sarah because at least she doesn’t try too much to be like everyone else.

Bret O’Connell – The local DungeonMaster, Bret would rather spend Prom Night rolling some dice and killing some orcs, rather than going with some icky girl. Bret has a love them/hate them relationship with girls. He fantasies about them from afar, but then never really spends any time with them at school. Dave Bradford is in his D&D group.

Dave Bradford – You are the local fence. You can get anybody anything they want, from cigarettes and porn to prescription drugs and condoms. Although you are a bit of a geek, because of your ability to supply everyone from jock to criminal, and from prep to nerd, you are respected by all. You are in Bret’s D&D group.

Katrina Snyder – You are a fierce lover and player of the Oboe, it is your passion and your life. You spend hours a day tooting your oboe. It is your every moment. You hate performing in front of others. For you, the oboe is about perfection, and you want to perfect your craft. You have few friends, but one of them is Nadia Bloomington, your BFF.

Nadia Bloomington – You are the school poet and artiste. You love to write, draw, and especially, compose poetry. Your verses fill notebooks. You take all of the artistic classes you can and eschew classes like Bio and Chemistry. You are BFF with Katrina Snyder.

Dale Erskind – You are the class bully and you love it. You are not the sharpest tool in the shed, in fact you are in special education. However, you know that where you go, people fear you. You are the strongest person in school. You are smart enough not to pick on the jocks or criminals, they’ll back you into a corner collectively. Instead, you live on nerds and geeks, choir boys and band girls. Your partner is crime is Raymond Drestin.

Raymond Drestin – You have been friends and partner in crime with Dale for years, going back to when you first met in special education class. Like Dale, you love to terrorize students. Unlike Dale, you hate being in special education, and are trying your hardest to get out. You don’t want to be known as stupid forever, and you are just about out of special education, with great grades and hard work.

Roger Sanchez – You are the local superstar cornerback, already getting college scouts to watch you play in games. The team may be 1-4 so far, but you are the highlight of a bad season. You are bright, trying to escape from a home life that is very uncomfortable, so you dedicate yourself to classes and sports. Your grades are great, your sports amazing. Your Physics lab partner is the hottie Stacy Hambrick.

Stacy Hambrick – You are the gifted one. Everything you do is a success. You are able to succeed at classes without trying, you are popular without putting in any effort, and you are successful at yearbook without trying. After that icky Shane dumped you for a college girl, you have set your sights on Roger Sanchez as the perfect boyfriend. You manipulated him into being your lab partner in Physics. Who knows where it will end up?

Vera Cafincelli – You are the daughter of a chef, from a long family of chefs, and want to continue that tradition. You work in your family’s restaurant after school and instead of good grades, you are working on your culinary skills. Your family hires a lot of people as wait staff, hosts, and so forth. One of the people hired is Shane Goodkind.

Shane Goodkind – You are currently employed at Vera’s family restaurant. You are the son of a pastor, and have high expectations upon you from your family and church, but things do not come as easily to you as they do to others, like your ex, Stacy Hambrick. She got everything without trying, you have to try at everything. You are pretty attractive, and the whole Son of a Preacher Man gets you really far with people at school, where you are respected by everyone. You just began dating a college freshman and it’s been marvelous to see a new world outside of high school and its pettiness. Before, you weren’t sure if you even wanted to go to college, but now you are convinced to go, and not just for her sake, but for yours.

Spike Nelson – You are a bit of a child prodigy, and yet you love the counterculture. Sure, you get straight As almost every term, but you also spike your hair, bleach it, and spend time with the counter culture cliques like the Indies or the Emos or the Punks. Your teachers like you because you are well behaved and smart. You are currently dating Walter Czerski.

Walter Czerski – You are the boyfriend of Spike Nelson. You are a good athlete, and you start as a linebacker for the football team, and that gets you a lot of respect and credit among your fellow students. You have to work for your grades, which average Bs, but Spike helps you study, and then she helps you “study.” You play football because it’s a thing to do, but you really don’t care about it. Instead, you take art classes, and love expressing yourself artistically. Some of your paintings are currently on display at a Student Art Festival being held at the Civic Center.

List of Roles:

Possible Blakekin Roles:

Angry Blakekin – When the Angry Blakekin is killed by any means, they may kill any person in the game they choose, and that kill is unblockable and unaffected by other roles (such as Diseased).

Lone Blakekin – You are one of the Blakekin, but the fierce independent streak of your host has driven you from your flock. At the beginning of the game, the Blakekin know who you are, and you know who they are, but you have a separate set of abilities that only you can use during even chapters. You may not pm with each other.

Slut – You are possessed of Blakekin. During the even numbered chapters, choose a person. That person cannot perform any action during that chapter, because they are with you. They will know if they have been enslutted, but not who Slutted them.

Unknown – You have been possessed by the Blakekin but do not realize it. You believe you are a vanilla villager, but instead, you are actually a Blakekin. You scan as Blakekin, win as Blakekin, and the Blakekin know who you are.

Possible Neutral Roles:

Class Comedian – The Class Comedian (Jester) wins if he gets lynched.

Ghost
– Cannot be Blake killed or lynched, but dies if ever scanned by Sleuth, because they realize what the Ghost is. Wins the game if it survives until end. If targeted by the Blakekin, they will know you are a Ghost, and if lynched, the village will find out.

Occultist – Each even numbered chapter, you may submit an action to force someone to join your Cult. Wins at the end of the game, if everyone still alive is in your Cult, even if you are dead.

Possible High Schooler Roles:

Sleuth – Due to your amazing powers of perception, you may, once per even numbered chapter, submit to me a name of any player. I will respond by giving you that player’s affiliation – neutral, Blakekin or trusted.

Jr. Sleuth – If the Sleuth dies while you are alive, you become the Sleuth. You do not gain any knowledge of what the Slueth has done, scanned, or results, so you may have to start over.

Guard – During the even numbered chapters, submit to me the name of any player. During that chapter, no Blakekin can get to the person, but other people can. If you successfully block a Blakekin, you will know, but you will not be told who you blocked. The target will not be informed. The Blakekin will know that they were blocked but not by who. You may not guard the same person on two consecutive nights.

Attached at Hip – You, and the person you are attached to in your Bio, are Attached at Hip. If one dies, so does the other.

Conscientious Objector – You may only vote to lynch every other day at most. You are never penalized for not voting to lynch.

Diseased – If killed during the even chapters by the Blakekin, the Blakekin will miss their next attack.

Drug Abuser – Each even numbered night, has a 50% chance to gain a villager role until the end of the next even numbered chapter. So, for example, could randomly become a Sleuth for a chapter, or a Martyr, or a Diseased, etc. Does not work every night, and you will know who you become, if it works. This can give you a role not in the game.

Garishly Dressed – Even if you are Guarded, you can be killed by the Blakekin

Martyr – You may take the place of a player who is about to be lynched. Just pm your desire to be put in their place and I will kill you instead of them.

Mischief Maker – During an even numbered chapter, submit to me the name of someone you want to shield and someone you want to target. If anyone targets your shielded person for any reason, instead, that target will bounce and go to your chosen target instead. A Sleuth scan, a guard block, a night kill, etc – all get bounced.

Nobody likes You – If you are in a lynch tie, you will always lose.

Paranoid – Will shoot anyone dead who visits during the night, no matter what role the person has.

Phoenix – The first time the Phoenix dies, they come back to life and are revealed as the Phoenix.

Pursuader – Once during the game, during an Odd numbered chapter, you can send me a pm to change the lynch to any target you desire. If the target was a Blakekin, you can do it again during the game, and you can keep doing it, until you hit a non-Blakekin lynch, then you lose this power as people no longer trust you.

Rabble Rouser – Once, as an even numbered chapter, you can force the village to have two lynches the following day. No one will know who you are when you use your power.

I'll sign up. I think I've missed the last three Abe games, so I want to get one even if the timing is not perfect.

I definitely will not be available on the 24th, or that weekend in the event there is weekend play. But other than that I think I can work this into the schedule.

I expect weekend play to be determined by the group at large. My guess is it will be something elongated over the entire weekend.

I can also massage the deadlines if need-be, I'm pretty flexible with that. If you folks would like to move it to 10 and 2 or 8 and midnight or whatever, I'm breezy.

The purpose of this game, in addition to having fun, is for me to try my hand at some new roles and see what I like and what I'll tweak for future WW games of mine.

The Phoenix is quickly becoming a standard WW role here at FOFC, and I'm in favor of that. As a role, I like it.

Start on Monday.

My early guess, unless the consensus is otherwise, is that we'll do Friday 9 pm but wait until Sunday for the next Chapter. I could do otherwise though. I could do nothing on Friday and everything on Sunday, or Friday both chapters as normal and then one deadline on Saturdya and the next on Sunday night, whatever we want, but this is my guess:

Friday 9 pm Odd Chapter deadline.

Monday morning/Sunday night 1 am, even chapter.

I'm going to have to say no to this one. I've been tempted because I love the more roleplaying style ones, and ones where we all have interesting roles. But the last game I spent too much time on and I don't really have it. I'll definitely be reading along though.

I don't want to get sucked back into playing every game, or even most, but I do remember enjoying this first one (I was in it, wasn't I?) and will sign up.

9 PM is probably too earlier of a deadline for me. If the group is willing to make it 10 PM I could play again.

Deadline doesn't matter to me, so whatever others would like.

Same here -- even if I'm not around for deadline, you wolves still won't be able to get me lynched (note to all that this means I am a villager).

It's the middle of the night for me either way, so doesn't make any difference to me...

So you only need to be on at deadline when you're a wolf? Noted.
