PureSim Baseball 2006 Screen Shots

OK, with about 10 days until release, I figured I'd post some screen shots from the latest beta. A lot of stuff from the in-game almanac is here, and I tried to capture a shot of the animated ball flight and the home run fireworks celebration. The new ambient crowd and umpire sounds and ball flight animation actually added more to the fun factor than I thought they would.

Note that some of these screens will change when I get some final artwork from Matrix. I posted 4 or 5 in this message, and I've included links to some more at the bottom...

In Betatesting this, it's been so much fun.. there's been some bumps, but I think OOTP06 is gonna have to raise the bar, this one's keeping the pressure on.

Hey Foz, I just realized you are in Franklin!

I grew up in Milford (I went to high school in Framingham) and played most of my youth hockey at the state rink in Franklin. Is that still there?

Small world.

nice screenshots

I would like to see player team name or team initials beside the player name in the almanac.

And maybe highlight player name for players on your current team.

Yup.. The Rink is still there, Shaun. Still busy, even tho hockey season is long since over.

I work in the next town over from both your hometown and your h.s., I work in Hopkinton for EMC (that's where I am now instead of betatesting PureSim (which I'd prefer right now)

Shaun,

Any reason to show the batting averages, etc to 4 decimal places? I think it is pretty standard to show only 3.

Those are some very nice screen shots. PureSim has never 'hooked' me in the past but I would really like to give this one a look.

I show it 3 places everywhere except the leader boards, where I go out an extra decimal place, sort of like www.baseball-reference.com

lol.

At times I am "design-challenged" If I could do this full time PureSim would look a thousand times better. Sometimes the cosmetics suffer when I am prioritizing work.

The good news is the almanac output is all controlled via a style sheet, so you could easily switch the font.

Shaun, looks great. I did ask you a question in one of the other threads that I'm not sure you answered regarding the Awards part of the almanac.

Any possible way to make the awards page list the awards at the top with link to the winners of that award? What about a HOF page?

Is there a reason that so many catchers are playing so many games? Has Mike Piazza ever played 149 in a season?

At one time you couldn't break down league leader stats by league in a two-league association in Puresim. I noticed that in trying a demo a year or two ago, and since I like looking at the stats it was really an irritation to me in what looks like a really good game. Can you do that now? I note it appears you might be able to do that based on the screenshots.

That has got be the cleanest interface I've ever seen. I've never played Pure Sim, but I might just give it a go.

I assume you can manage every game like I can in OOTP, right?

Yea there are still some areas in the shell where this limitation exists. The almanac feature breaks down by league just like you are looking for.

Shaun, hopefully you'll read this, but I have a question. Can you create a fictional league, but then have it import real rookies for each following season?

How's the speed of this year's iteration? My biggest drawback of the previous versions were the speed it took to sim a season (or 20) to build up a history before I took over.

Well, the Alpha Builds have been a bit slower due to debug code, but I simmed 15 years in a couple hours.

It sims much faster now due to the minor league games not being simulated any longer. I noticed it in the first alpha build that didn't have the debug code if I remember correctly.

Problem is, we don't get any minor league stats... I'd really like to see that added in.

It still generates minor league stats. You can see them on the minor league transaction screen. I imagine that the new player card will have them in a new spot - that is why they aren't there now.

Shaun,

Something you might want to look into. According to this screenshot:

http://www.puresim.com/ps2006/s16.jpg

NL league batting average in 2009 was .235 and then .231 in 2010. But IRL, the lowest league batting average in the history of the NL was .239 in 1908. Typical values these days are around .260. Not sure if this was intended (via some league configuration setting intended to favor pitching) or unintentional.

The one thing I hate about ootp is the waivers system. Boston signing Sean Casey to a 4 yr deal worth a little over 4 mil and then puts him on waivers and Atlanta claims him.

That pretty much kills it for me everytime I get deep into a ootp career. I guess I should just turn it off.

Waivers hasn't made it into Puresim yet has it?

I wouldn't say that's a problem with the waivers system, Todd - I'd say it's a problem with the OOTP AI.

Yeah, I really hope the new "engine" corrects this issue, but I know it has to be hard to get the AI to do certain things. I mean, even FOF has some AI issues.
