I got my 1st Pfizer dose today from the VA. I went right after lunch and had to wait about 10 mins past my appointment as they were waiting for the vials to thaw out. Once they got the vials, it went pretty fast. Once again, the demographics were a cross section of America. I have no soreness what so ever. Oh I had the choice and I went for the right arm.

Mar 8 opened up Phase 1b. Now more eligible in GA on Mar 15 (including my daughter with the asthma). The ramp up and supply seems "real" now.

Quote:
During the press conference, Governor Kemp announced that vaccines eligibility will expand to those 55 and older, beginning March 15, as well as adults with serious health conditions, as defined by the CDC, including:

Asthma (moderate to severe)
Cancer
Cerebrovascular Disease
Chronic Kidney Disease
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Just interesting (to me) to have two things I remember from driving her to hers come up with someone here

They told me left arm. I also wasn't sure he injected me or if he just placed a drop of fake blood on my arm.

Arm is sore from just below the injection site down about 2-3 inches. The injection site itself isn't sore at all.

Also, got mine at Costco and had a Costco hot dog and soda after. Totally worth it.

The Walgreens I got mine at was right across from a really good ice cream shop.

It's the little things that make these things worth it.

Kentucky has done a fantastic job on the vaccine rollout. We're now at 25% of all adults having gotten at least one dose and we've passed WV (which got a lot of early press for how many people they had vaccinated) to lead all of the surrounding states in percent vaccinated. We're 2 weeks in on opening up 1C availability, which is how I got mine already.

I got my 1st Moderna shot on Tuesday. I felt fine right after the shot, but the next day I had soreness in my arm and a headache. Also occasionally felt a little lightheaded.

So are people on your social media starting to get angry about not being able to get a vaccine?

My mom is getting her 2nd shot next week. My wife is getting hers this weekend, as they just started allowing Type 2 Diabetics. My youngest son is a home health care aide and just got his. My oldest child has not gotten a shot, and neither have I.

People can't seem to mention getting a shot though without people's anger bubbling under in some of the comments about either how they can't get one or how hard it is to get one. People need to be patient. I'm a healthy 45 year old (besides being obese) that has no underlying conditions. We should be in the back of the line. But it seems like the patience is wearing thin.

I think that, in the age of instant gratification, seeing people have something that you want that you cannot get w/in 12 hours is frustrating.

If I want a pocket-sized supercomputer, I can go the the iPhone site, click a few buttons, give them my credit card, and it is on my doorstep in 48 hours.

So having to wait for . . . anything seems wrong in 2021.

I'm starting to wonder how so many young healthy people on my social media are getting it. I just don't express that out loud. But I believe they are playing fast and loose with the requirements. ("I'm a teacher, because I taught English in Asia 15 years ago") One actually posted, "It pays to know a nurse!" - as I guess a nurse relative helped her skip the line at a clinic.

We've known for several months now what the general priority was, the order that people would get them. The people that are mostly complaining are those that always were the end of the line and/or Republicans/non-virus believers who now that the vaccine is close at hand, want it NOW. I understand their wanting the vaccine, they need to understand that they still have to be patient and wait their turn. Pay attention to the numerous locations that are offering appointments, check every day until you get one.

Like I mentioned above or in the other thread, my experience as "legal" when 1C opened up is that they didn't even ask or care about how I proved up my qualifications. It might be enough to just get the appointment at this point. They are trying to move the lines so quickly and so many more people are now eligible that it's not as easy to ferret out who should or shouldn't be eligible (like before when it was front line workers and the elderly), and they don't want to hold up the lines any more than they need to. My wait was 2 hours, so I'm sure it was just "get needles in these people as quickly as possible." My qualification was the wait...

I signed up for mine as soon as I heard 1C qualified in my state (my job is in IT). At no point during registration or during the actual vaccination was I asked how I qualified or to show proof that I qualified.

There's a rumor in town that if you hang around the chain pharmacies like Walgreen's near closing they're deploying vaccines that were allotted for people who didn't show up for their scheduled appointment. I'm glad they're not wasting any. I do wish there was a more official structured stand-by wait list system, but I suppose that takes resources too.

That's the dirty little secret. In SC my wife's practice was finally allowed to request vaccines and were basically told by DHEC no one is checking anymore now that we're past the elderly. Its just. Matter of finding an appointment.

To get to the online appointment screen, I just had to answer questions that qualified me. If you lie, you get to the appointment screen. It's basically like going to a porn site and saying you are over 18 to get in. I expected at the actual site is when I'd prove I qualified, so I brought my bar card that showed I'm an attorney (although technically it's 15 years old and I could have been disbarred a decade ago) and they didn't care.

In NC, at Walgreens, I had to sign a card saying what Group I was in that made me eligible. But I didn't have to bring any proof.

And I'm not sure what they'd do to me if I had just lied.

So it was somewhere between them not caring and them making sure I was eligible.

They just opened CA up for utility workers as an amendment to phase 1b; I squeak by because I support our large scale emergencies, so that apparently counts.

Except there aren't any vaccinations available within 100+ miles of my location in the south bay area, so I can't sign up anyway. Guess I have to just monitor the sign-up websites until an appointment becomes available. I've called a few pharmacies, but the closest I've been able to get is Paso Robles (~150 miles away) next week.

I know here in Myrtle Beach, the local non-chain pharmacies were also getting the vaccine now. Not sure what the sign-up criteria are for them, but certainly worth a try if you are striking out elsewhere.

Got my first Phizer shot today. Biggest wait was in the line to get checked in, after that it all moved quickly. Had to go a clinic they were having about 30 mins away in North Myrtle Beach. I had never been there, and let me tell you in Myrtle at least, malls are on the endangered list. Almost empty except fpr the big chain stores, even the food court (just a pizza place). But all the empty stores were a good place for the clinic at least.

Almost didn't feel the shot, was having no symptoms, but starting to feel a sore throat/dry mouth. But with the nice weather lately, its pretty much pollen season here, so I may be feeling that. I've got a nice CookOut Shake to help ease the pain.

Yeah I guess I could easily lie and say I'm a Type 2 diabetic because there is no real checking for that. I wouldn't do that, but it wouldn't be hard

Or volunteer at a mass vaccination clinic. They may or may not have extras at the end of the day but if they do, a volunteer who has been there helping stands a good chance of scoring one.

Forgot to mention, when I left home to get my shot, gas was $2.54. When I came home about an hour and a half later? $2.66.

Just an anecdote since I mentioned my m-in-law going for dose #2 today.

Showed up at her appointed time .. only to be told they ran out of doses for the day. (nope, not sure how that happens unless they were literally shorted on delivery, since it's entirely by appointment)

So she's now re-booked for tomorrow morning bright & early, we'll see how that goes.

It was a scenario that raised more questions than it answered tbh.

In Canada we're still working on 80+. It's insane how different it is compared to the US. 5.8% of the population has received at least one dose, compared to 19.3 of the US. I guess they're starting to see that when you need to rely on other countries to make your vaccines, that you won't be a priority when there is urgent need.

She got it this morning.

20 cars in line when we arrived. Literally 1 car in line when we left after her 15 min waiting around afterwards.

They basically told us (and apparently everybody else) "come back when you want to tomorrow", everybody was given the same "9am or whenever" ... all showed up, now they'll be back to the usual 1 or 2 cars at a time through the day routine. (already shut it down from 4 lanes to just 2 I noticed).

A good bit of confusion / discussion going on about how "they've changed this form, I've never seen this one before" and "I'm going to go start re-stickering all of these" (whatever that meant), so clearly things were a lot less organized there today than they were last month.

Glad to see so many of my friends here getting the vaccine. Other than a bit of arm soreness, no side effects from the shot today.

Well when the shot opened up for me (or pre-opened I should say, as it doesn’t open until March 15), I didn’t immediately jump on it. Mostly because the reason I’d be eligible is because I’m ‘overweight’ due to my BMI. My BMI is currently 27. Just edging over the BMI line struck me as a bit silly to jump over folks who actually may be more in need (people with high blood pressure or asthma or those over 55). Especially since I work at home and that isn’t going to change anytime soon. Of course I quickly learned that everyone I knew jumped on to get their vaccine appointment using the overweight (or obese) BMI standard and I had a case of FOMO. Checked online and all the vaccines were booked up.

Now I feel halfway silly for not jumping on for an appointment, but at the same time feeling halfway silly for thinking about getting an appointment because my BMI is 2 points above the overweight limit.

I guess I’ll check for appointments next week.

I'm scheduled for Moderna on Monday. I'm a volunteer coach at my daughter's Catholic school, and apparently qualify as "Catholic School teacher and staff"

I'm scheduled tomorrow. My parents both got their shots. My sister in law who works at school got the J&J one shot.
