FOOL 2043 Regular Season!

We kick off our 83rd season in 2 hours!

Will Baltimore repeat as champions? Will the Republic League take the title back?

Renaud Lemieux has a new team and is only 4 shutouts shy of Juan Sierra's all time record of 48. The last time Lemieux had 4 shut outs in one season however was 10 seasons ago when he pitched for Hartford. Will he be able to find it in him to get 4 more this season at the age of 39?

Tokyo is looking forward to another tough battle in the CL.

The offense is upgraded with the addition of Tex Jones and the promotion of top power prospect Luis Beltran. Don't know how a guy that's 6'1" and 150 has so much pop, but I'll take it.

With 18 HR Dave Juteau will become the franchise's all time home run king.

Sim time!

I will try not to get too distracted by the Falcons game tonight. If the Saints end up winning though, I fear bad things might happen to all of the FOOL superstars. So I hope all of you will be rooting for the Falcons along with me!

Anyways getting exports now, time for the 2043 season!

Out of the bullpen?? That is like taking Ozzie Smith and making him a late inning pinch hitter! (yeah I know about Lemieux's talent drop)

I do have some loyalty to him, as he is one of the few FOOL players born in the same city as i was, but the loyalty stops there. I've been on the wrong side of too many of his masterpieces to give a flying firetruck about his shutout record

Just a quick note, the following players were put back on Newark. He was victim of the Auto-setup organization bug where the AI drops players. Since he is a new owner, I'm putting them back on Newark and informing him of PM of this bug. No team that might have bid on any of these players ended up getting money taken away for it.

Saturday, April 4th, 2043: Gallegos Razor-Sharp, Shuts out Edmonton
An efficient outing for Esteban Gallegos usually means a win for Newark. Today was no exception, as the 23-year-old starter held Edmonton to a long line of goose eggs. He struck out 5 and gave up 3 hits in the 2-0 shutout.

Friday, April 17th, 2043: Napa Valley Shut out by Hobbs
It was a dismal game for the Winemakers with Andy Hobbs on the hill. The Tokyo starter was in top form and made it a long day for Napa Valley with a 8-0 shutout. He surrendered a total of 2 hits and piled up 5 strikeouts to pick up the win in a route-going effort.

"He's got great stuff and good movement," the Ann Arbor manager said after the game.

"He threw a lot of breaking balls. He made adjustments. We just couldn't figure him out today."

Monday, April 27th, 2043: Chávez Hits 3 Homers Against Chico
Going... Going... Gone!

Roberto Chávez did it three times in the Hammersmith-Chico game at Ballpark of Hammersmith. Three home runs in one game -- but his team lost -- the Rebels outscored the Hooligans 5-4.

"Gosh, it's a shame we didn't win this game. I get my name in the record book, but we lose the game."

For the day the Hammersmith right fielder went 3-4 against Chico with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored in a brilliant display of power hitting.

"I was in a groove," he said, "and every pitch they tossed up there looked like a basketball." Commenting after the game to the press, the semi-elated Chávez explained, "I tell you what, I was surprised because I didn't think the last ball had enough to get out. I thought it was just going to be a long out."

R. Chávez grounded out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off K. Tanaka in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off K. Tanaka in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off K. Tanaka in the 8th.

Chávez is presently hitting at a .326 pace with 9 home runs and 25 RBIs. He has played in 21 games and scored 19 times.

Friday, May 1st, 2043: April's #1 Hurler Announced - Soethout Winner
Sjoerd Soethout hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Republic League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In April the Hyannis starter earned a 6-1 mark in 7 starts. He threw 59.1 innings, struck out 31 and compiled a solid 2.43 ERA.

Friday, May 1st, 2043: April's Premier Batter Announced
Gavin Taylor battered Continental League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 32-year-old Taylor told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I may not take the field and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 26 games, Taylor hit .405 with 6 home runs, 17 RBIs and scored 16 runs.

Friday, May 1st, 2043: RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Jason Alexander earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish New York second baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Alexander hit .283 with 6 home runs, 16 RBIs and 16 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Friday, May 1st, 2043: Valenzuela Honored by Continental League
May was an exceptional month, especially for rookie Luis Valenzuela. The third baseman for the Napa Valley Winemakers performed like a veteran and was named the best newcomer in the Continental League.

He captured the honor by hitting .327 in 21 games with 18 hits, 7 home runs and 16 RBIs.

Friday, May 8th, 2043: Correa Holds Assassins Scoreless
Before the game Francisco Correa liked his chances and his instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing the Winemakers pitcher whitewashed the Apex Assassins 6-0.

Correa said in the clubhouse afterward, "I just had a feeling it was going to be my day. My control was awesome. I could throw my curveball even when I was behind in the count."

The Napa Valley starter held Apex scoreless, giving up 3 hits while registering 5 strikeouts and issuing 3 walks.

"We didn't have very many good at-bats," the Assassins manager said in his postgame interview.

"When that happens, you usually lose."

On his stats sheet this season Correa shows a 3-2 record, 8 starts, 62.1 innings, 26 strikeouts and a 2.74 ERA.

His all-time numbers show Moreno is carrying a .308 career batting average with 153 home runs and 765 RBIs.

Tuesday, May 12th, 2043: 3-HR Binge for Watanabe Against New York
In the Hammersmith 16-8 win over New York, Eiichi Watanabe was in a home run mode. He tortured the Heroes, cracking out three home runs and going 3-3 with 8 RBIs and scoring 4 runs.

"When you're hot, you're hot," said a grinning Watanabe in the postgame press conference.

"I got some good pitches to hit and got a good swing going today. I cannot believe it happened. I was like, 'I don't know what I'm doing.' It was one of the better days in my baseball career. I was on cloud nine out there and I was enjoying it."

E. Watanabe hit a solo-shot off P. Amstadter in the 1st, hit a GRAND SLAM off P. Amstadter in the 3rd, was hit by a pitch in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off M. Hodge in the 6th and walked in the 8th.

Presently Watanabe is batting .373 and has collected 9 home runs, 33 RBIs, .422 OBP and scored 29 runs.

Monday, May 18th, 2043: Assassins Shut out Edge, Morán Winner
"That was one of my best outings," said Bartolo Morán. "I was worried a lot in the bullpen. My ball wasn't quite right. Luckily, it can be two different worlds -- the bullpen and the game. Once I stepped on the field, it all fell into place."

It was an impressive start for the Assassins hurler. He blanked the Edge 5-0 on a strong 3-hitter while ringing up 14 strikeouts and doling out 2 walks.

To date this season, Morán has a record of 3 wins and 5 losses and a 5.30 ERA. He has appeared in 9 games and struck out 45 in 56 innings.
