RL AWARDS

Defense is a critical element in the game of baseball. Many times late in the game, a light-hitting defensive specialist will be inserted in place of a superstar hitter. Good defenders are worth their weight in gold and today the best of them for 2076 have been recognized. These players will receive the Republic League Slick Fielder Award:

New York's Brassard Wins RL Bartolo Liriano Award
Sunday, October 25th, 2076: What a way to finish off the year -- being honored with the 2076 Bartolo Liriano Award in the Republic League. It had already been a very special season for New York's Raphaël Brassard, but today's announcement really put the icing on his cake.

All season long Raphaël Brassard gave opposing pitchers fits by hitting .247 as he collected 139 hits, 19 doubles, 4 triples, 42 home runs and 121 RBIs.




Best RL Hurler Chosen for 2076
Sunday, October 25th, 2076: The Mauro Morales Award for 2076 has been presented and the Republic League winner is Stephen Walker of Cleveland.

"It's always nice to receive an award like this," said Walker. "I just hope I can improve on my performance next year and be in the running again," the Naps star told reporters.

Walker excelled with an impressive 18-9 record in 40 starts. In 237 innings he yielded 190 hits and 32 walks, while striking out 218 and compiling a fine 2.28 ERA.



RL Kien-lung Teng Award Presented
Sunday, October 25th, 2076: A fine inaugural season has paid off handsomely for Motonobu Okada of the Beach Boys. The 24-year-old topped off his debut year with the 2076 Republic League Kien-lung Teng Award.

The Beach Boys right fielder took the trophy by hitting .284 in 154 games and finished with 175 hits, 18 home runs, 65 RBIs and 93 runs scored.

Sunday, October 25th, 2076: Great glovemen can range far and wide to make a backhand stop or an over-the-shoulder catch -- and the best usually make it look easy. Today the winners of the Continental League Slick Fielder Award for 2076 were announced. These awards for defensive excellence go to:

Reynaldo Silva Captures Best Bat Trophy
Sunday, October 25th, 2076: Reynaldo Silva of the Washington Freedom proved that you can step out of the shadows and onto the stage if you've got the talent and the drive to hone your skills. Hard work, long hours and a tireless resolve paid off for him today in the form of the Continental League Bartolo Liriano Award.

Silva hit for a .323 average while collecting 203 hits, 50 doubles, 6 triples, 37 home runs, 118 RBIs and scoring 121 times.


CL Presents Outstanding Pitcher Award
Sunday, October 25th, 2076: The Washington Freedom have a rising superstar or maybe even a budding Hall-of-Famer in the making.
It's Charlie Clements, this year's Continental League Mauro Morales Award selection. This blossoming hurler wowed fans, peers and sportswriters with a fabulous performance.

Clements compiled a 19-1 record in 32 starts, tallied 185 strikeouts in 187.2 innings and recorded a 2.25 ERA. Other clubs managed only a .219 batting average against him.


Barrón Top Rookie in 2076
Sunday, October 25th, 2076: The #1 rookie in the Continental League was London first baseman Fernando Barrón, who was today named the 2076 Kien-lung Teng Award winner.

He put up some solid numbers, including a .312 batting average and .354 on-base percentage, while racking up 3 home runs, 77 RBIs and 65 runs scored.

There must have been some ridiculous money out there, because it seemed to me that most every player was asking for well over their actual value in free agent contract demands. I stuck with some of the more reasonable players that helped fill a need, and that seemed to work for me. I still have holes to fill, though, so hopefully the demands have come down some.
