Werewolf LXXVI - The Werewolf Draft! Game over, see last pages for details

Welcome! This will be a traditional werewolf game. Its complexity is still to be determined, and will depend on how many players we get. I am hoping to start this game Tuesday, with the first deadline being Wednesday. We will use a 24 hour clock, and an afternoon deadline.

The gimmick, or twist, in this game is that random.org will not be used. There is no random element at all in this game. The teams will be DRAFTED - like a schoolyard kickball game. The draft order will be publicized (post-game), so if you're not cool with being picked last, please don't play.

If there are any questions, feel free to ask either in thread or via pm.

Declaring for the draft:

1. PackerFanatic
2. oliegirl
3. Lathum
4. Mrs. Schmidty
5. LoneStarGir
6. Passacaglia
7. mccollins
8. claphamsa
9. DaddyTorgo
10. Alan T
11. Chief Rum
12. Danny
13. Barkeep49
14. SnDvls
15. saldana
16. Schmidty
17. KWhit
18. RendeR
19. EagleFan
20. Telle
21. GoldenEagle

Roles and rules:

The village wins when all four wolves are eliminated. The wolves win when there are as many wolves as villagers left in the game, with one exception: If all that is left is one wolf and the Hunter, the villagers win.

Villager roles

Seer
Fake Seer (thinks he's the seer, but isn't - revealed as seer upon death)
Spy (can follow one player per night - if he follows the wolf making the kill, he can id the wolf)
Bodyguard
2 Masons (no pm rights, and are not allowed to reveal upon pain of death)
Duke
Philosopher (scans for the cultist)
Hunter (Villagers win if he is one of the last two players)

Wolf roles

Cunning wolf (scans as villager)
Brutal wolf
cultist (counts as a villager, wins with the wolves, knows the wolves but has no pm rights - selected by the wolf team)
Sorceror (scans for the cultist and seer)
Regular wolf

Only the cunning wolf can kill any player - all other wolves may only kill a player who has voted for them at some point in the game. This only includes votes tabulated at the deadline. The wolves may kill 1 player per night.

All pms are being sent out now. Vanilla villagers will get the following pm:
Quote:
You are a villager. Your objective is to lynch all the wolves.

Good luck, and have fun!
Wolves and non-vanilla villagers will get more specific information, obviously.

The first deadline is Wednesday, 3pm Eastern time. Pms are composed and being sent out right after this is posted. I will post again after they are sent out, and the game will begin then.

Good luck, and have fun!

Edit: When voting, PLEASE provide a blank line both above and below the vote, as well as bolding the vote.

Here is the selection order:

wolf
2 villagers
wolf
4 villagers
wolf
8 villagers
wolf
2 villagers
wolf

How will the draft work?

I am assuming this is not a truly traditional game as the draft means either that A- the teams are even and/or B- you know who is on both sides.

Count me as pending.

The draft will be behind the scenes. Most likely, the GMs will simply send me a preference list. The draft order will be fair, although the details have not been finalized. After I close signups, the 2 GMs will send me a preference list, also including their choices for whatever additional roles their teams have - seer, brutal wolf, etc.

After the game is over, the draft will be publicized.

Dola, the teams will not be EVEN in terms of number. The wolves will be a minority.

Sounds intriguing. I'm probably in, depending on the dates and additional details and rules

Will the GMs also be in the game? If so, I am guessing we don't know who they are?

The GMs will not be in the game, and will not be allowed to post in thread or pm with players, but I can't think of a reason why who is the GM for a particular side shouldn't be public knowledge.

I'm in and for the GMs being public. I think it adds an interesting psych twist for the villagers to try and think how the wolf GM would pick. Also, villager GM: It's been my dream to have a role as a villager, a good one like seer or BG. If you can accomodate mucho gracias.

I'm thinking about it. I was a bit burned out after the last game, and kind of bummed out because I think the balance was off, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't that enjoyable for the players.

Actually, I think that's evident with the fact that st. cronin is doing the "no random.org" thing. I'm pretty sure there were some behind-the-scenes rumbling, which resulted in that.

Anyway, I might play. If I do, I'm pretty sure I'll be a last pick, since everyone knows that I'm the worst player, even with others attempting to claim my well-earned and long-held title.

Actually I have been planning this gimmick for about 2 months or more. I have no idea what happened in your game except that apparently the students won.

Since I have now gotten affirmation from both of them, the GMs can be announced:

Poli will be picking for the village.
Hoopsguy will be picking for the wolves.

I would like signups to run through the daytime on Monday, so the draft will run either Monday pm, or Tuesday before noonish. If those two can't do it live, we'll do it via preference lists.

Closer to draft time I'll publish a list of positions they'll need to fill.

Come on man. I really am. The only time I've done well is when I was UTR, and got lucky on a block. I am also decent as a wolf because I am so quiet.

I'm just not good at analysis. It could be because I'm lazy, or the fact that play so many other games. Or it could just be that I suck. I'm thinking the latter is true.

Cronin, are you going to publish, either publicly or privately (for GMs), a list of the roles prior to the draft?

Yes. It will actually be two lists - one a public list, the other a more detailed private list for gms only. Some of the roles will have limitations that will not be public knowledge, but the GMs will mostly know as much abut the roles as I do.

For now the plan is to definitely have the following roles in the game:

Seer
Bodyguard
Duke
Vanilla Villager
Sorceror (wolf who scans for seer)
Cunning wolf
Brutal wolf

There are other roles which may be added depending on the number of players. Also, some of those roles may be used more than once, and you can count on at least one of them not quite working the way you expect it to.

I enjoyed the game, FWIW. I don't think it was unbalanced so much as the wolves ran into some bad luck.

Wolves probably have as much right to complain as anyone if you're right Schmidty, but I said it there, and I'll say it here: I had a great time. I know Alan did, too. I can't speak for the other wolves, but I didn't hear any complaints. So while I agree that there might have been some balance tweaking that could have been done, by and large it was a successful and fun game for all, in which, unfortunately, the wolves ran into some bad luck (and the villagers played very well).
