The Ultimate 2-on-2 Tournament

Taking NBA2k3, Shorty is hosting the mega-tournament. Break it down for them, Shizzy.

NBA guards.

2-on-2.

Play to 21. Win by 2.

64 pair tournament to determine the ultimate champions.

I took the guards/swingmen of the NBA, and out of about 135, 128 of them made the cut. I listed all of the point guards, and all of the shooting guards/swingmen seperately. Then randomly, each were selected. Each team will have a PG and SG.

I will post results here. I will make a bracket. But for now, here are the teams.

Go Steve Franchise! He and Rip should go far...

Sigh, no Tim Hardaway. Why'd he have to retire...?

Baron Davis and Jon Barry vs. Damon Stoudamire and Anthony Peeler
vs.

Pre-Game Talk: Well, it seems as though Barry and Davis are the favorites. Baron Davis is the lone star in this match, although Barry or Stoudamire could do well. Peeler is a good shooter when open, but don't expect for him to create shots on his own.

Baron and co. got up early, but a late resurrgance, via Anthony Peeler, made the game tight at the end. At 19-18, Baron Davis shot a two pointer which bounced off of the rim, straight up, and down into the hoop to win.

Statistics
Baron Davis, NO: 13 pts, 8/19 fg, 3 rbs, 2 asts
Jon Barry, DET: 8 pts, 7/10 fg, 6 rbs

Damon Stoudamire, POR: 8 pts, 10/14 fg, 3 rbs, 5 asts

Bobby Jackson and Jerry Stackhouse vs. Chris Whitney and Mike Miller
vs.

Pre-Game Talk: Stackhouse and Jackson may very well blow this game away. Stackhouse is an All-Star player, and Bobby Jackson is a starter on most teams. Mike Miller, recently traded to Memphis, is a good player but it is questionable how he will hold up against Stack. Chris Whitney is a mediocre PG.

Mike Miller was simply dominating early, and his team was up 7-5, until Jackson hit a huge two to tie the game and keep this away from a quick upset. Jackson's onslaught of 2-pt buckets (6, count 'em) ensured an advancement for him and Stack, as Miller and Whitney, try as they might, couldn't keep up.

Statistics
Bobby Jackson, SAC: 14 pts, 8/8 fg, 3 rbs, 4 asts
Jerry Stackhouse, WAS: 7 pts, 7/11 fg, 3 rbs, 1 asts

Chris Whitney, ORL: 4 pts, 4/6 fg, 2 rbs, 3 asts
Mike Miller, MEM: 8 pts, 8/17 fg, 8 rbs, 0 asts

Alvin Williams and Kedrick Brown vs. Andre Miller and Brandon Armstrong
vs.

Pre-Game Talk: Miller is the best player of the 4, and he may be able to carry his team to victory. But if Alvin Williams can shut him down, expect this game to be close.

Stifling defense by Kedrick Brown and Alvin Williams that we had previously not seen. Miller and Armstrong turned the ball over more times than we could count, and Alvin and Kedrick were prowd owners of the first Tourney Upset Special. How good was the defense? Williams had 7 steals and 2 blocks, and Brown had a steal and 2 blocks of his own. These turnovers gave way to many a dunk, and it was easy breezy very quickly. The star player in the game, Andre Miller, was held to just 3 points.

Statistics
Alvin Williams, TOR: 14 pts, 14/16 fg, 2 rbs, 3 asts
Kedrick Brown, BOS: 7 pts, 7/10 fg, 6 rbs, 0 asts

Andre Miller, LAC: 3 pts, 7/11 fg, 3 rbs, 1 asts
Brandon Armstrong, NJ: 7 pts, 3/9 fg, 4 rbs, 1 asts

Franchise and Hamilton aren't bad.

Cassell and Carter could be good as well.

This is Cool, ShortDawg.. How about some side wagering on the matchups? Can you give us the Vegas Odds?

By the way, if Bibby & T-Mac don't take the Title, I'll be shocked.

Terrell Brandon / Steve Smith

vs.

Nick Van Exel / Lucious Harris

Pre-Game Talk: Van Exel showed he could be a prime scorer while with Denver, and Lucious Harris is a very good role player. They will compete in this game against Terrell Brandon and Steve Smith, both of whom are on the decline of their respective careers.

This was a fantastic game that was close from start to finish. Down 19-20, Van Exel hit a huge two take the lead at 21-20. But having to win by two, Van Exel hit just that - a two to win it.

Statistics
Terrell Brandon, MIN: 14 pts, 13/16 fg, 2 rbs, 4 asts
Steve Smith, SA: 8 pts, 8/11 fg, 3 rbs, 4 asts

Keyon Dooling / Courtney Alexander

vs.

Brian Shaw / Hubert Davis

Pre-Game Talk: Davis and Shaw are career role-players nearing the end, while Dooling and Alexander are emerging guys who haven't quite found a great role yet. This is anyones game, but the younger, quicker, guys have to have an advantage.

Wow. Stunning. Led by Hubert Davis' 19 points, the old foggies win. Hubert did not hog the ball - Shaw just couldn't make a shot. Rebounding played a huge role, as Hubert brought down 8 offensive rebounds. Can you say player of the game?

Statistics
Keyon Dooling, LAC: 11 pts, 7/10 fg, 5 rbs, 4 asts

Kenny Anderson / Gordan Giricek

Billups was the only player on the team to come to play, and he couldn't do it alone.. Jones was dominant, pulling down rebounds, and scoring off of good passes from Strickland. Too little from Forte for them to have a legit shot.

Statistics
Chauncey Billups, DET: 11 pts, 9/15 fg, 2 rbs, 2 asts
Joseph Forte, SEA: 5 pts, 5/12 fg, 5 rbs, 2 asts

Jamaal Tinsley / Dajuan Wagner

vs.

Travis Best / Scottie Pippen

A two point onslaught was enough to advance the two young guns over the established veterans. Best was the inferior player here, but none of the four were noticably weaker than any of the others. Pippen could not keep up with the quicker Wagner.

Statistics
Jamaal Tinsley, IND: 9 pts, 7/10 fg, 4 rbs, 2 asts
Dajuan Wagner, CLE: 12 pts, 10/14 fg, 6 rbs, 3 asts

Travis Best, MIA: 7 pts, 6/12 fg, 1 rbs, 2 asts
Scottie Pippen, POR: 11 pts, 11/17 fg, 8 rbs, 2 asts

And with that - Bracket Region 1 is complete!
