3 Roundtrippers for Trujillo
Wednesday, April 8th, 2076: Going... Going... Gone!
Iván Trujillo did it three times in the Havana 6-5 victory over the Washington Freedom.
Three home runs in one game! "I was in a groove," he said, "and every pitch they tossed up there looked like a grapefruit."

Commenting after the game to the press, the elated Trujillo explained, "I tell you what, I was so shocked because I didn't think the last ball had enough to get out. I thought it was just going to be a long out."

For the day the Havana second baseman went 4-5 against Washington with 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored in a brilliant display of power hitting.

Iván Trujillo hit a solo-shot off Charlie Clements in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Charlie Clements in the 6th, walked in the 8th, flied out in the 10th and hit a solo-shot off Héctor Arizola in the 12th.

Vélez Collects Hit Number 2000
Tuesday, April 14th, 2076: Havana's Pedro Vélez entered the record books today as he collected hit number 2000 at Banana Sluggers Ballpark.

"I am proud of this. Not too many player reach this level. You have to be around quite a few years and you have to get a lot of hits," Vélez said after the game.

On his milestone day he went 2 for 4 as the Banana Sluggers won 5-2 over the London Bishops.

Vélez has a career .321 batting average with a .393 OBP. He has hit 305 homers, driven in 1088 runs and scored 1144 runs since he came into the league.

Hit Parade: Abacil Pops 5 Hits
Thursday, April 16th, 2076: Marcos Abacil socked it to the Wildcats today at Gambler Anonymous Palace. The 27-year-old Beach Boys second baseman rapped 5 hits in 6 at-bats to lead his club to a 14-5 win over Las Vegas.

Marcos Abacil hit a three-run double in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.

Abacil is hitting .400 this year with 1 home run, 7 RBIs and 5 runs scored. He has 14 hits in 35 at-bats, 3 walks and a .447 on-base percentage. Abacil has played in 9 games.

Brassard Raps 400th Roundtripper
Tuesday, April 21st, 2076: A big sigh of relief erupted from Raphaël Brassard after he hit his 400th career homer. The New York left fielder said, "I'm glad it's over...now I can go back to just playing baseball."

It was quite a day for Brassard. He got his name in the league record books with 2 hits, 2 RBI, scored 2 runs and his team, the New York Legends beat the Portland Axemen 5-1.

Brassard knew it when he hit it. He raised his hands in the air, then ran the bases like a high school player, clapping and grinning.

He told reporters in the postgame interview, "I was acting goofy running the bases... but it was my 400th home run."

"It was great," his manager said. "He stood there and watched it...we all did. You just felt it was coming...you just had a sense he would hit it soon. He has been having a lot of good at-bats. It was great to get it out of the way."

Lifetime Brassard is batting .280 and has totaled 400 home runs.

Washington's Silva Winner, CL Best Hitter in April
Friday, May 1st, 2076: When it came to hitting the baseball, Reynaldo Silva had few Continental League peers in April. The left fielder for Washington mauled opposing pitchers for a .359 batting average and was voted the league's best batter for the month.

He finished with some strong stats: 6 home runs, 21 RBIs, 24 runs scored, 12 walks and a .444 on-base percentage.

April's #1 Batter Announced
Friday, May 1st, 2076: Matias Pilon battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Pilon told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 22 games, Pilon hit .345 with 5 home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 19 runs.

De La Parra Wins CL Top Pitcher Honors
Friday, May 1st, 2076: Veteran Ángel De La Parra put together quite a successful stretch in April for the St Cloud Raindrops, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

De La Parra racked up a 5-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 2.13 ERA over 38 innings and striking out 39.

Goudie Grabs RL Top Pitcher Trophy
Friday, May 1st, 2076: Ken Goudie has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in April and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Lions bullpen ace collected no saves and 14 strikeouts in 12.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .146 average and posting a 0.71 ERA and a 4-0 record.

CL Rookie Vote Goes to Pitcher
Friday, May 1st, 2076: He's only in his debut season, but Randy Evenson performed more like a veteran on the hill for the Washington Freedom and walked away with April's Continental League Rookie of the Month Award in the process.

Last month this young hurler recorded 4 wins and no losses in 5 starts. He threw 30.1 innings, giving up 8 walks, fanning 20 and compiling a 2.67 ERA.

Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Friday, May 1st, 2076: Motonobu Okada earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Waikiki left fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Okada hit .367 with 3 home runs, 8 RBIs and 19 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Silva Claims CL Batter of the Month Award
Monday, June 1st, 2076: Reynaldo Silva, the Washington Freedom left fielder, certainly made his name known to Continental League hurlers over the last month. He consistently introduced himself with hit after hit and came away with May's Continental League Batter of the Month award.

He slashed and bashed his way to a .393 batting average while tallying up 8 home runs, 28 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 10 walks and a .435 on-base percentage.

Silva is hitting .377 so far this season with 49 RBIs and 44 runs scored. He has 77 hits including 14 home runs, 22 walks and .440 OBP.

Brassard May's Best Bat Choice
Monday, June 1st, 2076: When guys like New York's Raphaël Brassard win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive May, the longtime Republic League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 24 hits in 95 at-bats.

The veteran left fielder hit for a .253 batting average and collected 10 home runs, 19 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

A look at his season totals shows Brassard with 14 home runs, .269 BA, .388 OBP, 38 RBIs and 38 runs scored.

May's Top Starter is Clements
Monday, June 1st, 2076: An outstanding 4-0 record in May earned Charlie Clements the Pitcher of the Month Award in the Continental League. When his name was penciled in to start on the Washington lineup card, it meant trouble for opposing teams.

In 30.1 innings of work, Clements limited opposing batters to 21 base hits and a .194 batting average. He notched 27 strikeouts, issued 10 walks and had a 1.78 ERA.

Currently Clements has a record of 7-0 with 61 strikeouts and 14 walks in 61.1 innings and a 2.05 ERA.

Lions Starter Named May's Premier Pitcher
Monday, June 1st, 2076: Aurelio López's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in May, the 33-year-old Spring hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 33 in 34.1 innings, logged an ERA of 1.57 and allowed opponents to hit .174 against him.

In 11 starts this season López has compiled a 6-0 record and a 2.59 ERA.

Farmer Earns CL Rookie of Month
Monday, June 1st, 2076: The Continental League Rookie of the Month trophy has been awarded to Kevin Farmer of the St Louis Hops.

In May he played in 23 games, recording a .316 batting average with 1 home run, 14 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

This season Farmer has hit at a .273 clip and produced 20 RBI, 1 home run and 20 runs.

RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Monday, June 1st, 2076: Youngster Motonobu Okada emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Waikiki deserved the honor, batting .327 with 3 home runs and 15 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Okada enjoy the limelight.

This season Okada has 6 home runs and a .344 batting average.

Encarnación CL Outstanding Batter of the Month
Wednesday, July 1st, 2076: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 29-year-old Miguel Encarnación put together a solid offensive month for St Louis and was crowned June's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .319 with 6 home runs, 27 RBIs and 16 runs scored.



Encarnación is currently hitting at a .294 pace with 12 home runs and 58 RBIs.

Ríos Wins RL's Best Bat Award
Wednesday, July 1st, 2076: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Raúl Ríos can still get it done in FOOL-X. In fact, the 34-year-old left fielder for Spring was named the Republic League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In June he batted .437 with 5 home runs, 25 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

Thus far this year Ríos is batting .367 with 12 home runs, 57 RBIs and 59 runs scored.

Pitcher of the Month Named in CL
Wednesday, July 1st, 2076: The #1 pitcher this past month in the Continental League was Ernesto Maldonado of the Oshawa Mullets. He worked the hitters over real good, finishing June with a superb 6-0 record and a 2.11 ERA.

The Mullets star made 6 starts and surrendered 33 hits in 42.2 innings. He struck out 42 and walked 6.

Maldonado has fashioned a 7-6 mark for the season, 2.93 ERA and thrown 110.2 innings in 16 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .258 against him.

RL Picks June's Top Pitcher
Wednesday, July 1st, 2076: It's a rarity when someone out of the pen gets recognition as the Republic League Pitcher of the Month, but that's exactly what happened today as Las Vegas reliever, Carl Reed, earned June's title.

He tossed 17.1 innings, posting a 2-0 mark, 0.52 ERA, sitting down 12 on strikes and also nailing down 8 saves in his 13 relief appearances.

Crunching the numbers on Reed for the year, he has made 31 relief appearances, recorded 19 saves and compiled a 3-2 won-lost mark and 1.45 ERA. In pitching 43.1 innings, he has totaled 39 strikeouts and 8 walks.

CL Names Newcomer of the Month
Wednesday, July 1st, 2076: Kai-xi Xú is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the St Cloud hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .450 average with 18 hits, 1 home run and 10 RBIs.

This year Xú has hit at a .325 clip with 37 hits, 4 home runs, 23 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Portland Center Fielder Best RL Rookie
Wednesday, July 1st, 2076: A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Willard Cyr just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Over the past month the 23-year-old center fielder for Portland hit .290 with 36 hits, 1 home run and 6 runs batted in. He also logged 3 walks and compiled a .307 on-base percentage.

A look at his current stats shows Cyr with a .294 average, 5 home runs, 22 RBIs and 47 runs scored. He has played in 76 games.

Salamanca Crowned Batter of the Month in July
Saturday, August 1st, 2076: Claudio Salamanca, the Stafford Terriers shortstop, certainly made his name known to Continental League hurlers over the last month. He consistently introduced himself with hit after hit and came away with July's Continental League Batter of the Month award.

He slashed and bashed his way to a .358 batting average while tallying up 6 home runs, 23 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 16 walks and a .447 on-base percentage.

Salamanca is hitting .284 in 2076 with 57 RBIs and 12 home runs.


Portland's Rivera Snags July Batting Title
Saturday, August 1st, 2076: Portland first baseman José Rivera put the wraps on a fine July by capturing the Republic League Batter of the Month honors today.

He put up a .351 batting average and .380 on-base percentage last month while racking up 9 home runs, 25 RBIs, 18 runs scored and 6 walks.

Saturday, August 1st, 2076: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Jaime Anaya still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in July. The 29-year-old starter for St Louis was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and 1 loss with 20 strikeouts in his 5 starts, putting up a fine 1.25 ERA in 36 innings of work.

This year Anaya has fashioned a 10-8 mark, 2.80 ERA and pitched 138 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .238 against him and he has logged 73 strikeouts.

Maricopa Starter July's Best Pitcher
Saturday, August 1st, 2076: Louie Huffman of the Maricopa Rattlers outdistanced his peers on the mound this month. He fashioned a fine 4-1 won-lost mark and 2.25 ERA in 5 starts to get the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors.

CL Names Rookie Star of the Month
Saturday, August 1st, 2076: Bobby McCormick was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 23-year-old left fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen July's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 25 games McCormick batted .299 for London, slapping 29 hits in 97 at-bats with 3 home runs, drove in 13 runs and scored 20 times.

McCormick is currently hitting at a .252 pace with 8 home runs, 42 RBIs and has scored 52 times.

Balogun Picked July's Best Newcomer
Saturday, August 1st, 2076: Legesse Balogun's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Ann Arbor catcher has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In July he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .330 with 4 doubles, no triples and 4 home runs. Balogun also scored 9 times and drove in 12 runs.

Tuesday, September 1st, 2076: The Continental League has made it official -- Reynaldo Silva is the winner of the Batter of the Month trophy.

Juan Carlos Rodríguez of the Havana Banana Sluggers is the Continental League Pitcher of the Month. In August he dominated the league with 4 wins and no losses in 5 starts. Herrera Named CL Batter of the Month
Thursday, October 1st, 2076: Prospective free agents love to have hot streaks and Gerardo Herrera is no exception. The Washington right fielder capped off a fine month by hauling in Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League.

In September Herrera hit .345 with 8 home runs, 25 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

In 159 games this year Herrera has posted a .293 average and put up these numbers: 32 home runs, 93 RBIs and 124 runs scored.

Perkins Takes RL's Best Bat Award
Thursday, October 1st, 2076: The Republic League Batter of the Month has been chosen for September and the trophy was presented to Eric Perkins of the Ann Arbor Wolverines.

He stood out this month with a .412 batting average, 47 hits and 3 home runs, along with 20 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Thus far in 2076 Perkins is hitting .311 with 11 home runs, 83 RBIs, 94 runs scored and has compiled a .368 OBP.

Hodgson Grabs CL Top Pitcher Trophy
Thursday, October 1st, 2076: September's top hurler was Matt Hodgson of St Louis. He shackled Continental League hitters the entire month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award with a sparkling 3-0 mark.

The 30-year-old Hodgson added 29 strikeouts in 39.1 innings and 13 walks to his season record and compiled a 2.75 ERA. Other clubs hit .219 against him.

This season Hodgson has compiled a 12-10 mark with a 3.93 ERA in 32 starts.

Osorio Is September's Top Starter
Thursday, October 1st, 2076: Marcos Osorio left little doubt in the minds of Republic League officials that he should be named September's Pitcher of the Month for his outstanding performance.

"I wasn't always confident at the start of a game," said Osorio. "Sometimes it's hard to get into the flow -- the calls aren't going your way or you're trying to spot your pitches too much. You just have to relax and use what you've been taught all your life -- get back to basics -- good mechanics, control, location, keep the ball down."

The 23-year-old tossed 38.1 innings of quality baseball -- going 6-0 with a 1.64 ERA and 39 strikeouts.
