London's McCormick Bags CL Batting Award
Monday, May 1st, 2079: The Continental League has selected its Hitter of the Month for April and the honor went to Bobby McCormick, London's fine center fielder.

McCormick was selected after batting .321, hitting 6 home runs, scoring 17 runs and driving in 25.


Cleveland Left Fielder RL's Best Batter in April
Monday, May 1st, 2079: When António Mercado stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The young Cleveland left fielder posted a .362 batting average with 6 home runs, 27 RBIs and scored 20 runs. Mercado also worked pitchers for 12 walks to post a .424 on-base percentage.

Graves Chosen April's Best CL Hurler
Monday, May 1st, 2079: The best at putting a stop to late-inning rallies in the Continental League in April was Colin Graves of the Washington Freedom. For his stellar work out of the bullpen, he has been named Pitcher of the Month.

He chalked up a 2-0 record, 13 relief appearances and 10 saves with a 0.64 ERA. Graves pitched 14 innings and rang up 20 strikeouts.


RL Premier Pitcher is New York's Torres
Monday, May 1st, 2079: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Carlos Torres still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 34-year-old starter for New York was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and 3 losses with 48 strikeouts in his 7 starts, putting up a fine 2.93 ERA in 46 innings of work.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Monday, May 1st, 2079: Lou Ray was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 25-year-old third baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 24 games Ray batted .333 for Plantana, slapping 31 hits in 93 at-bats with 1 home run, drove in 8 runs and scored 12 times.


Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Monday, May 1st, 2079: Harry Latour is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Spring hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .287 average with 29 hits, 3 home runs and 17 RBIs.

Burnett CL Outstanding Batter of the Month
Thursday, June 1st, 2079: Danny Burnett is in the final year of his contract with St Louis and today added a timely piece of hardware to his trophy case. Playing in 28 games in May the 33-year-old right fielder ripped Continental League pitchers for a .299 batting average, nabbing him the Batter of the Month award.

He also rang up 6 home runs, 18 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

If Burnett keeps up this pace, he'll cost someone a lot of money.

This season Burnett is hitting .302 with 9 home runs.


Republic League Picks May's Best Batter
Thursday, June 1st, 2079: The Republic League has selected its Hitter of the Month for May and the honor went to António Mercado, Cleveland's fine left fielder.

Mercado was selected after batting .333, hitting 6 home runs, scoring 22 runs and driving in 19.

Thus far in 2079 Mercado is hitting .348 with 12 home runs, 46 RBIs, 42 runs scored and has compiled a .426 OBP.

May's #1 Starter Named in CL
Thursday, June 1st, 2079: Ernesto Maldonado's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-1 in May, the 29-year-old Oshawa hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 27 in 39.1 innings, logged an ERA of 1.60 and allowed opponents to hit .191 against him.

Maldonado has started 11 times this year, pitched 79.1 innings, fanned 56 batters and walked 13. His current record is 6 wins and 4 losses with a 2.61 ERA.


Osorio Is RL's Best Pitcher in May
Thursday, June 1st, 2079: Marcos Osorio took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award for May.

The 25-year-old Naps starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-0 won-lost record in 7 starts. This month he fanned 40 batters in 37.2 innings and compiled a 1.91 ERA.

To date this season, Osorio has a record of 6 wins and 1 loss and a 2.00 ERA. He has appeared in 12 games and struck out 64 in 67.2 innings.

Washington Right Fielder Best CL Rookie
Thursday, June 1st, 2079: Esteban Sánchez's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Washington right fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .338 with 8 doubles, 3 triples and 3 home runs. Sánchez also scored 16 times and drove in 16 runs.

Currently Sánchez is batting .284 with 42 hits and 6 home runs. He has knocked in 29 runs and scored 32 times.


Rookie Reels In Republic League Award
Thursday, June 1st, 2079: May was a month to remember for Ann Arbor third baseman Bernard Conrad and it was capped off today with the announcement that he was named the winner of the Republic League Rookie of the Month award.

Conrad compiled a .271 batting average and .319 on-base percentage last month. In 24 games he piled up 23 hits, 2 home runs, 8 RBIs and 10 runs scored.

So far this season Conrad has 3 home runs and a .247 batting average.

Sánchez Takes Best Bat Award in June
Saturday, July 1st, 2079: Esteban Sánchez mauled enemy pitching all month long as he cruised to the Continental League Batter of the Month title.

Sánchez batted .388 with 8 home runs, 24 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

Washington faithful hope for an encore in July!

So far this year Sánchez has hit .316 with 14 home runs, 53 RBIs and 44 runs scored.


RL's Top Hitter Selected
Saturday, July 1st, 2079: Waikiki's Motonobu Okada had a productive June and topped it off by winning the Batter of the Month citation from the Republic League.

The 26-year-old right fielder stood out at the plate with a .356 batting average, 8 home runs, 20 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Okada is hitting .269 so far this season with 50 RBIs and 45 runs scored. He has 87 hits including 10 home runs, 26 walks and .329 OBP.

CL Selects Rodríguez June's Best Starter
Saturday, July 1st, 2079: Gonzalo Rodríguez nailed down June's Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on London to get a deal done before the 29-year-old becomes a free agent.

Rodríguez seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 4-0 record, reeled off 28 strikeouts, worked 39 innings and held batters to a .268 average for the month as he posted a 1.85 ERA.

Checking out his stats for the season, Rodríguez has notched 5 wins and 7 losses in 16 starts, 4.32 ERA and struck out 62 batters in 85.1 innings.


Republic League Announces Best Starter
Saturday, July 1st, 2079: Veteran Sergio Rodríguez put together quite a successful stretch in June for the Portland Axemen, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Rodríguez racked up a 4-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 1.57 ERA over 34.1 innings and striking out 26.

This year Rodríguez has gone 9-1 with an ERA of 1.78 and has 106 strikeouts in 106 innings.

Sánchez Voted June's Rookie Award
Saturday, July 1st, 2079: Youngster Esteban Sánchez emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Washington deserved the honor, batting .388 with 8 home runs and 24 runs batted in. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Sánchez enjoy the limelight.

Sánchez is hitting at a .316 mark this season. His stats show 14 home runs, 53 RBIs and 44 runs scored. He has played 71 games for the Freedom.

Rookie of the Month Winner Announced
Saturday, July 1st, 2079: Lúcio Cruz earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Waikiki catcher might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Cruz hit .367 with 2 home runs, 12 RBIs and 10 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Cruz is presently hitting at a .281 pace with 5 home runs and 32 RBIs. He has played in 64 games and scored 22 times.

Tuesday, August 1st, 2079: Tadao Konishi battered Continental League pitchers all July and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 33-year-old Konishi told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Konishi hit .351 with 6 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 19 runs.

Konishi is batting .253 with 13 home runs and 68 RBIs this season.


RL Best Hitter Award to Waikiki's Ron Butler
Tuesday, August 1st, 2079: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 35-year-old Ron Butler put together a solid offensive month for Waikiki and was crowned July's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .378 with 11 home runs, 17 RBIs and 26 runs scored.



A look at his current stats shows Butler with a .301 average, 21 home runs, 68 RBIs and 65 runs scored. He has played in 106 games.

CL Relief Ace Valdéz Named Best Hurler
Tuesday, August 1st, 2079: In July, the best pitcher in the Continental League was a reliever, thanks to some impressive stats Alberto Valdéz put up coming out of the bullpen.

The Plantana bullpen ace stood out with 9 saves in 13 relief appearances, a 2-0 won-lost mark and 0.56 ERA. He worked 16 innings, allowed 12 hits, struck out 17 and walked 1.

To date Valdéz has 28 saves with a 6-2 mark and 1.24 ERA. Opposing teams are hitting .182 against him.


RL's Top Pitcher in July Is Walker
Tuesday, August 1st, 2079: July's top-rated pitcher was Stephen Walker of Cleveland Naps. He demoralized Republic League hitters in posting a 5-0 record and captured the Pitcher of the Month award.

In 6 starts, Walker limited opposing batters to a .193 average. He rang up 30 strikeouts in 40 innings of work, issued 3 walks, and crafted a 1.80 ERA.

So far this year Walker has a 13-4 record with a 3.47 ERA.

Ray Selected CL's #1 Rookie
Tuesday, August 1st, 2079: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Lou Ray just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for July.

Over the past month the 25-year-old third baseman for Plantana hit .323 with 31 hits, 3 home runs and 22 runs batted in. He also logged 9 walks and compiled a .400 on-base percentage.

Currently Ray is batting .313 with 6 home runs, 50 RBIs and 63 runs scored.


Cruz Chosen RL's Best Newcomer
Tuesday, August 1st, 2079: The Republic League made the official announcement today. The Rookie of the Month honor went to Lúcio Cruz of Waikiki. He was chosen as the #1 rookie in July.

Last month the 22-year-old Beach Boys catcher played in 16 games and hit .400 with 6 doubles, no triples and 3 home runs. Cruz also scored 7 times and drove in 9 runs.

Cruz currently has a .306 batting average with 87 hits, 8 homers, 41 RBIs, 29 runs scored and a .330 OBP.

McCormick Brings Home CL Batter of Month Honor
Friday, September 1st, 2079: In August, Bobby McCormick let his bat do the talking for him. The London center fielder smacked the ball at a .358 average as he laid claim to the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

He rapped 10 home runs, drove in 21 and scored 26 runs.

So far this season McCormick is batting .310 with 22 home runs.


Rivera Wins RL's Best Bat Award
Friday, September 1st, 2079: The top hitter in the Republic League in August was Portland first baseman José Rivera.

He was selected the Batter of the Month after batting .306, hitting 8 home runs, scoring 16 runs and driving in 21.

In his season totals Rivera has 34 home runs and a .297 batting average.

Washington's Hubbard Chosen August's Best in CL
Friday, September 1st, 2079: Ray Hubbard is the latest Continental League Pitcher of the Month award winner. The Washington starter stood out on the hill time and again last month and finished August with a sparkling 4-0 record.

In 6 starts last month, he fanned 39, walked 15 in 37.1 innings and posted a 1.45 ERA. Hubbard held opposing teams to a .202 batting average when he was on the mound.

This year Hubbard has a 14-6 record and a 2.56 ERA.


Sakata Acclaimed Top Pitcher in August
Friday, September 1st, 2079: Sosa Sakata was the #1 pitcher in August according to the voters. He completely shut down opposing teams to win the Republic League Pitcher of the Month Award.

Spring's star reliever held the opposition to a .220 average and put up 10 saves and 19 strikeouts in 14.2 innings with a 1-1 mark and a 0.61 ERA.

So far this year Sakata has 32 saves in 57 relief appearances with a 5-4 mark and 3.09 ERA.

Washington Right Fielder August's Top Rookie
Friday, September 1st, 2079: Esteban Sánchez made a name for himself in the Continental League in August. The talented right fielder for Washington compiled a .260 batting average and was the top votegetter for the Rookie of the Month trophy.

He won it by going 20-77 in 26 games with 6 home runs, 17 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

Sánchez is currently batting .289 with 22 home runs and 79 RBIs.

Friday, September 1st, 2079: With August's Republic League Rookie of the Month title slung over his shoulder, Héctor Salazar has no reason to be modest about his statistical output. But he was, telling BNN reporters, "I just put the bat on the ball a lot and a lot of them fell in. It was just my month to shine."

The 23-year-old blistered the baseball last month as he posted a .299 batting average, 35 hits, 2 home runs, 12 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

So far this season Salazar is hitting .254 with 8 home runs.
