Sunset Series Game 8: Brooklyn 10, Memphis 2

Brooklyn claws all the way back from down 4-1 in the Series to force the decisive Game 9, this time in front of the home fans in Brooklyn. Wowza.

Charlie Taylor was on the mound for Memphis and friends..when you put a guy who won 29 games out there, well...things tend to go his way.

He pitched a complete game, giving up 8 hits, 1 earned and striking out 5. The Smokers are Series champs after almost giving away a huge Series lead and have claimed their 3rd title in franchise history.

They also prevented Brooklyn's attempt at SLOP's first three-peat. Only San Diego ('49-'51), Brooklyn ('53-55) and Carolina ('50-52) have appeared in three-straight Classics and no team had ever won two straight with a chance at a 3rd before these Titans attempted the feat.

But it was not to be...despite getting so close after being down so far!

Charlie Taylor, at the age of 38, claimed his first-ever AL Pitcher of the Year award this year. Chris Ross was gunning for his 5th at the age of 28.

We'll sim to the start of free agency on Monday night. You can use this last file as a chance to offer any extensions to any of your guys. Also, if you release someone with years left on their deal..let me know or else it'll affect your ability to sign other guys going forward.

Heck of a season.

We'll be in the off-season this upcoming week, as a reminder to the new guys:

Quote:
TUE: FA1
WED: FA2
THUR: FA3/Sim to start of ST
FRI: FA4/Sim ST/sim to start of season

File is up. Congrats to our champs!

Only five guys have thrown no-hitters in SLOP history. Two of the hurlers who did it played for San Diego, two played for Chicago and one for New York.

John Walton through the 1st-ever no-no during the 1st season of SLOP. He retired after that 1st year. The following year, recently inducted Hall of Famer Will Allen threw one for San Diego.

It took five years for the next one, this time by Jean Gilles in '44 for the defunct New York Americans. Gilles is still active, playing for Hilton Head and has 197 career wins and a pitcher of the year award to his credit. He's not anywhere near HOF material or anything, but has been a solid pitcher.

The most dubious guy was three years later in '47 when Jose Gonzales used one of the three starts he made that entire year to throw the first perfect game in SLOP history for Chicago. He struck out just two batters in that game against Winnemucca. Gonzales has bounced between the majors and AAA for most of his career since then.

Later that year, teammate Bobby Foster struck out ten and walked just one against Brooklyn, throwing his first no-hitter and the last one ever thrown to date...which is now dating back eight years and counting.

Glad to finally make it back. It's been quite a while since we've won one of these.
