Jenkins Gets Number 3000
Sunday, September 27th, 2009: By going 1-for-5 in the Ann Arbor 7-2 win over Portland, Britt Jenkins reached the 3000-hit mark. The Ann Arbor Grounds fans, friend and foe, burst into applause and Jenkins's teammates hugged and congratulated him on his achievement. "The guys began the countdown weeks ago," said the newest member of the 3000 Club. "I don't know who was more excited -- them or me." In his career Jenkins is hitting .320 with 3000 hits, 81 home runs, 1346 runs scored and 1119 RBIs. |

I am. Thank you very much. I was already worried my #1 pick wouldn't accept the offer I made because I met his demands exactly and he was rated difficult to sign.

Depends on the day. If it's the draft and I have a lot of good picks I spend 30 to 45 minutes on it while sitting in front of the TV with the lady. If I don't have many picks and it's a low first rounder I only spend 5-10 minutes on it. I spent 5-10 minutes finalizing things for the sim today. I don't do a total scan of free agents during FA#1, I have filters set up to help me find the players I'm interested in, so that takes me 5-10 minutes as well. At this point I know what I want and don't want and can generally breeze through an export if I'm limited on time. That said, I've been known to give more care to little details (indiv. strat/team strat/bargain hunting/trying to sign young stars very early) if I find myself at home with nothing going on.

Final day of the season, St. Louis and St. Cloud have locked up playoff spots. St. Cloud loses and St. Louis wins though to force a 1 game playoff to determine which team gets homefield advantage in the CLCS!
Over in the Republic League, portland has clinched homefield in the RLCS and New York has locked up the final playoff spot! |

Well, judging by Pyth record, the best two teams in the CL get into the playoffs, and that's the way it should be.
That said, disappointed at the fortunes of my Havana squad, given we ended up "on top" of a tight group of solid, but unspectacular teams, meaning we are barely above par, but likely have a pick fairly late in the first round. I can only hope I got some development out of some of the kids and that Garrett is more reasonable with his contract demands.

IIRC, that's actually muns' M.O. I'll bet there will be an absolutely unstoppable pitching stud in the draft for him to pick up.

Tasan has been the tough luck loser in the RL the last 10 years. He's won 88+ games 5 times during that stretch with zero playoff appearances to show for it.

Carlos Gutierrez jumped straight to the big leagues and didn't miss a step. He went from an 8/8/6 to 10/9/6 (he's only 21, hopefully the control will rise) and dominated CL hitters with a 1.62 ERA in 94 innings. I would have been happy with a 4.00.

Alright.
Drafted players. Where did they end up in the minor league system? I haven't had a chance to look at the file.

So what did everyone think about the draft pick signings feature?
Some observations on my part: - I didn't notice any picks that people went after that refused to sign.. Did anyone have any refusals? - I noticed some people went pretty astronomically high on the signing bonus on a handful of really talented players. I actually like that because a player of that talent demands some compensation. - For the most part everyone still made a profit this season with the exception of a small handful of teams. The same ones that I noticed went astronomically high on some offers. So I like that balance as well that it makes you have tough decisions at times. - I noticed some teams purposely did not even offer anything to a 1st or a 2nd round pick that they didn't like. The game correctly awarded them a new pick in the same round for next year's draft as it should. Some things i don't like necessarily: - The location of this forces only one attempt to sign for teams, but that didn't seem to matter too much this time at least - We can't really move the draft easily to a different part of the season to give more chances to sign draft picks or that would screw up free agent compensation Other thoughts: - The game automatically put all draft picks signed to minor league contracts in A-ball, and anyone with a major league contract in the major leagues. If teams have specific instructions for draft picks to be places in either the majors , AAA or AA, I think it should be fine for you to send me a PM with those instructions with the same rules as we have in free agency for the season sim (you have to leave a roster spot open). - For A-ball normal minor league draft picks, I don't think I want to add an hour to the season sim to sort where everyone's draft picks go. So I think we might need to say you need to just let the AI handle them for you, and you make sure you set your A-ball team up in a way where they will get used smartly (ie: don't have too many players in A-ball to start off with, and leave holes in your lineup for these players to fit in by the AI). We're still in a trial period for this for at least another season or two, but after that if the league really doesn't like this we can turn it off.. but I'm curious to everyone else's first season impressions on the draft pick signings? it isn't as bad as I thought it would be so far at least. I know however the first time someone has the #1 overall draft pick refuse to sign with them there is going to be all hell break loose I'm sure Last edited by Alan T : 06-11-2010 at 02:57 PM. |

Without looking, was this the lowest RL League ERA in history following the change to the Legends dimensions?

I can adjust if need be...
...but I absolutely hate the AI for minor league lineup/staff management. And since drafted players aren't on the roster yet, I can't even hit AI to see where they would play them and make adjustments (my SOP). I also have historically kept more full minor leaguers and micromanaged the lineups because I feel it helps development better than playing with ghost players (so long as the real prospects are getting the PT over mediocre prospects). So basically all that you suggest there, Alan, is anathema to how I historically have run my minor leagues. I'll have to think on how best to handle things if we go that route.

The one thing I don't like is not being able to put players in the minor league lineups or the proper levels. If OOTP11 has more players that should be higher than Single-A, then it could hurt these players.

I'm willing to help out with the folks higher than A-ball. I don't think there will be that many of them from what we saw this year. Just doing all of the A-ball picks would just be too time consuming for the sim is all. So that is the main concern I have here, if others feel like Chief where this is a big enough deal that it makes all of the other cool parts about this not worth it. Or is this only a minor annoyance, but not worth scrapping the entire thing over. Quote:

Here we go again! I'm getting tired of playing (and losing to) New York.
I do have to say though this is our 6th straight winning season. After a couple years of winning only 50 games it's been a nice run. A lot of our young guys grew up and became stars, and we brought some fun to the fans of Portland. |

-The only thing I miss about the old New York stadium is the fact that everyone else hated it so much...Go Legends Go
-Teng announced today that if the League Commish will allow it, he would like his name plate next season to read THIS, and his number to read *.... -The OOTP gods giveth (+9 Pyth 08) and then taketh away (-6 Diff 09) Congrats Hops, St. Cloud and Portland. Matt we meet again, good luck...All playoff teams be weary, The Legend players will be growing playoff mustaches. I did happen to lose one of my supplemental picks. Sup Rd 1 27th overall, Scott Hamilton MR. He was rated as Normal for signing, Demand 583K and I offered somewhere around 600K. It would be nice to have Hamilton, but he is really nothing special and at 20 years old not necessarily considered a prized draftee. My initial thoughts of this new feature are positive. I enjoy it. It gives owners more to think about when managing there previously useless excess cash. Sure there will be annoying nuances but nothing that can't be rectified quickly. Only time will tell how much a draftees development is affected by his first year of minor league playing time, but in my opinion i think this effect for the majority of players is negligible. The only thing that may be a problem is forcing extra "Alan work" by moving draftees around. Thus, for what it's worth, Keep It (at least until I lose the next TENG to player greed...) I am sure I missed this conversation, but am I safe in assuming that Hamilton will be in the upcoming draft? and do i receive a similar pick as compensation?

yes, Hamilton will go back in to the draft, and yes you currently have a supplemental 1st round pick next year already listed as compensation for him not signing. (You can go into the draft order in game and verify as well for those interested) |

The FOOL-X Five Results!
I finally win one of these just barely! Alan: 345.6 Chief: 344.3 Kevin: 334.2 MattG: 322.6 Mattcubs: 319.1 Muns: 204.4 Our poor newcomer Muns didn't fare too well as he recorded the first player with a negative season VORP for the FOOl-X Five! The ideal FOOL-X Five team from this season would have been: Tsuramatsu Takahashi (STA) 66.3 Carlos Gutierrez (STL) 40.7 Kien-lung Teng (NY) 123.3 Luis Huerta (STL) 100.1 Jesus Martinez (POR) 96.9 Notice Carlos Gutierrez is one of this year's draft picks! |

Man I love the extra defense stats and such. I too like the draftee stuff. I'd like them to play though is my problem. The positive out weighs the negative though IMO.

My #1 pick only got 44 AB. He definitely would have gotten more if I would have been able to set my lineups. How do I know how that impacted his development?
This is enough for me to not want to use this feature. We should be able to put guys where we want.

My only issue is the lack of control over the level and lineups for the draftees.
