Il Pesciolino Di Roma

In 1974 the club now known as Lupa Roma F.C. was founded as S.S. L.V.P.A (Ludentes Vivendi Perdiscimus Artem) Frascati and was refounded in 1980, 2004 and 2013. In 2013-14 the club moved to Rome and changed their name to A.S.D. Lupa Roma while playing in Serie D.

Last season, after a 34-season absence in Italian professional football, the club was promoted to Serie C/C and changed their name to Lupa Roma F.C. to signal their return. Now looking at their first season in professional football in over a generation, Lupa Roma F.C. Chairman Alberto Cerrai has moved to hire a new manager to bring them forward into the future.

That man is a little known Italian-Albanian named Dondario Abenasi. At just 27 years-old, the quite wet behind the ears manager has been thrust into the spotlight of Rome's third club and he has been given the reins of the team for a reason: Cerrai wants Lupa Roma to become Rome's favored club, surpassing both Lazio and Roma.

Cerrai knows the club are at least three seasons from reaching Serie A, Italy's top flight football league, but the chairman is undeterred. He has claimed that the young Abenasi has his complete backing and his patience to bring little Lupa Roma to the top.

As for the manager, aside from his ethnicity and heritage, nothing is known about Dondario Abenasi. Nothing about his tactical nous, playing style, man management techniques. Absolutely nothing. He's as novice as they come. He played with Lazio's schoolboys but was never offered a contract with the club and stopped playing for them at the age of 14. This is his first job in management and he becomes the youngest manager in any of Italy's top professional leagues. There is not much of a spotlight on a club living way down in Serie C/C.

Due to the lack of functional room for a stadium in Rome, Lupa Roma will ply their trade at the Quinto Ricci in nearby Aprilla. The field holds a total of 2,544 supporters. These minnows play in a small pond. The facilities are bare bones at the moment. The training facilities are considered poor, and the youth facilities basic.

As comes with the territory, the newly promoted side has been predicted by the media to finish 18th and make a swift return to Serie D. This has been compounded by Cerrai's hiring on Abenasi to take over the club.

Lupa Roma has a total payroll of €36,440 and a transfer budget of €24,490.

Alberto Cerrai has informed Abenasi that the club's minimum expectations aren't particularly ambitious this season. He wants the team to be competitive, to put in a shift and not to be outclassed too often.

The Foundation is Laid
Abenasi has had a meeting with his backroom staff to lay out what he feels the club needs to target through the transfer market. He will likely be dipping his toes into the free transfers rather than splashing out (as much as one can splash out with €24,490.

Abenasi is looking for cover at goalkeeper, left back, and right midfield. The club may be looking for a potential starter at left midfield. Felipe Curcio has the talent and potential to eventually become the club's starter there, but at the moment is just isn't ready to handle the full time responsibilities.

The club has offered a contract to 22 year-old left back Davide Ferrari. Unfortunately, Ancona and Pro Piacenza have also offered the player a contract.

Dondario Abenasi has found his first permanent signing and he comes from the Trialist Match. The club and manager have signed 16 year-old right back Luca Ponti. He will immediately head to the U20 side to get some seasoning. He shows promise with his tackling, concentration, decision making, teamwork and work rate. He is fairly athletic, but needs to improve his stamina and strength.

Siberie Next in at Lupa Roma
The club have moved to sign experienced left winger Rocky Siberie from Ospedaletti for a fee of €2,400. Siberie is a Curaçao and at 32 years-old is a full international with 6 caps and 6 goals. He does not play left midfield very well, so we may have to accommodate him by moving our wingers further up the pitch and moving a central midfielder into a holding role. Siberie has gexcellent strength, dribbling and first touch. Solid composure and he's good off the ball. His pace isn't bad, but his crossing may potentially leave a bit to be desired.

The club has signed 18 year-old central midfielder Joshua Smith, who is from the Netherlands. He comes in on a free transfer and will initially play with the U21s. Smith has good work rate and decision making, while his first touch, technique and passing will also suffice. He has decent vision as well. He's a bit slow and weak, while being just 5'6” could end up hurting his progression.

It's early days, but three straight losses across all competitions is not good for morale at all. The players are still trying to get used to the tactical setup as well. They looked sluggish most of the match, but the defending was much better. More cut and thrust is needed at the point of attack.

Verona's Serbian left midfielder Matija Miketic has joined Lupa Roma until the end of the season. Miketic is just 18 and is quite good with his speed, crossing and passing. He's a natural at left midfield, unlike Siberie, and could see playing time early on. He is currently out for 6-11 days with a thigh strain.

The club has also signed 23 year-old left midfielder Luca Indorante after his trial period with the club. This gives us another option on the left.

Thank you! I thought this would be a much tougher season. We're much less talented than the way the club has played. The 4-4-2 tactics seen in the first couple of posts were an absolute disaster through the first three games. Once we moved to a wide 4-1-2-3 and the results starting changing in a big way.

I've asked the board twice for a contract extension, but the club is in debt and is refusing to hand out any new deals. So I'm a bit worried about what may happen at the end of the season. I'd like to assume I'll keep my job if we win promotion, but nothing is guaranteed.

After an 0-0-3 start we've gone 20-7-4. A remarkable turnaround of fortunes.

LUPA ROMA WIN SERIE C/C!
An absolutely incredible campaign that started out with five consecutive losses in all competitions has culminated in the penultimate match with the lifting of the league trophy and promotion to Serie B! After taking an early 2-0 lead, Diego Conson found himself on the wrong end of a second yellow card an automatic sending off. Matera managed two goals in the next 15 minutes and continually threatened to take the lead until the plucky Lupa Roma side found a way and found a goal from Rocky Siberie.

What seemed to be a sheer impossibility and something that was not even discussed or thought of before the season began has come to fruition. Manager Dondario Abenasi in his first professional season of management has taken Lupa Roma, widely tipped for relegation to the top of the table with a torrid run of 24-5-5 since losing their opening three league matches.

Abenai wishes to stay with the club and work to consolidate their position in Serie B for 2015/6, but there has been no word of a contract extension. Rumors that the club is struggling financially have led to thoughts that Abenasi will not be handed a new deal despite his rousing success with the club.

Abenasi Signs New Deal
Dondario Abenasi has signed a new one year contract with Lupa Roma worth €775 per week. Abenasi has agreed to take a pay cut of roughly 2/3 his salary on his initial contract. His goal is to keep Lupa Roma together and intact. It is not about money for the young Italian manager.

Abenasi has been given a transfer budget of €185,000 and a total payroll budget of €48,500.

Pawlowski Agrees to Loan
Lupa Roma have agreed a loan deal with Udinese for 22 year-old Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Pawlowski. Lupa Roma will be paying 50% of his weekly salary and he will be with the club until the end of the season.

Pawlowski is still a work in progress, even at 22, but is a very determined player and will fit in well with the players currently at the squad. He's above average in reflexes, aerial ability, handling and one on ones.

MC Paolo Capodaglio has agreed to a new contract with Lupa Roma that will see him leading the midfield until June 2017.

Fan favorite AMR Salvatore Margarita has also agreed to new terms and will be frustrating opposing fullbacks until June 2017.

DC Pietro Cascone and DL Alessandro Celli have also agreed to new terms with the club until June 2017.

Lupa Roma Sign Sundas
The club has also announced the signing of 21 year-old Romanian right back Anatolis Alexis Sundas on a one year contract. Sundas was a free transfer and is a solid header, marker and tackler. He makes good decisions and is a strong team player. He's a bit slow and would be best in a limited full back role.

Our Assistant Manager believes he would be a decent signing for Serie C sides and could become a very good Serie B player in the future.

Okosun Joins Lupa Roma
The club have also moved to sign 21 year-old German defensive midfielder Simon Okosun to a contract that will run through June 2017.

Okosun is a physical force, very brave and a fantastic team player. He's a good header and tackler. He'll be a top backup to Prevete and could definitely see some significant playing time in midfield.

Tozzo Joins Lupa Roma
Lupa Roma and Sampdoria have agreed to a loan transfer of 22 year-old Italian goalkeeper Andrea Tozzo. He will directly compete with Pawkowski for the starting job.

Tozzo shows excellent jumping ability, concentration and determination. He's strong in the air, with his reflexes and in his handling. He and Pawkowski are about even in talent at the current time. This could make for an interesting battle for the #1 shirt at the club.

Lupa Roma can confirm that they have captured 22 year-old Italian forward Luca Veratti for a nominal fee (read: 0) from Bologna. Lupa's assistant manager believes the forward can become a key member of the first team, but he will have to beat out Simone Montecchiari for the starting forward position.

Veratti is above average in all physical categories. He has decent finishing and heading as well as passing, long shots and technique. He needs to polish his composure and decision making, but definitely has the potential to be a very good player. He's currently got the highest value of any player at our club, sitting at €500K.

Yes, for the most part I've had to keep it together with the same club. Finances are precarious with the club, so everyone who came in was free or loaned. The biggest change was at GK. When Rossi's loan ended I noticed he was on a Bosman, but he refused to sign with us.

I'm hoping we can drop a match or two sooner or later, I really don't want to be promoted to Serie A with this squad.

GK Wojciech Pawlowski has spoken with Dondario Abenasi and upset with the lack of playing time, as Tozzo as outplayed him, has requested his loan be terminated. Abenasi is not one to keep those who don't wish to be part of the club. The loan has been ended and Pawlowski has returned to Udinese where he can continue warming benches for them.

Abenasi Seals New Contract
Lupa Roma manager Dondario Abenasi has put pen to paper on a two year contract extension. The 28 year-old will now be with the club until June 2018. Abenasi had just 7 months to run on his existing contract before agreeing to a new deal.

Abenasi memorably lifted the Italian Serie C/C with the club in 2016 and has gone from strength to strength in an eye-catching start to his managerial career. Abenasi has coached Lupa Roma in 60 matches, winning 35, drawing 9 and losing 16. The club has scored 104 goals and conceded 68 under his stewardship.

Asked by The European Football Express's Abdulaziz Awadh about staying with the club, Abenasi responded: “I'm delighted to have signed a new deal. I'm absolutely loving it here and it was a no-brainer to commit to staying for even longer.”
