FOOL Brooklyn Brownstones Solo Dynasty

While 1/4 of the way through my 12 hour shift I decided to download this and give it a try and create an alternate what if reality for the Brooklyn Brownstones.

I plan on playing this dynasty out as if it was a close to a regular FOOL season as possible so here are the rules...
  1. No trades from the start of the regular season until the end of the post-season.
  2. Trades on Very Low, Hard and Favor Prospects
  3. No AI or human roster changes once opening day has started.
  4. 25 Man roster for all levels with exception of 40 man Active roster for spring training only.
  5. Additionally I will keep the exact same "sim" schedule the league uses by only conducting team business on December 1st, March 1st, Opening Day, End of Regular Season, End of Post Season, and Start of free Agency. The only team business that will be conducted outside of these select dates will be responding to trades during the appropriate time of year only.
  6. As for the draft I will draft the first 4 rounds of players since that is how long my list normally lasts and let the AI select the final rounds.
Now it is is time to get started. Once I loaded the game I did a one time random-draft order and found myself drafting in the 8th spot. For the draft I went with the strategy of trying to win now and only drafted the first 25 picks who will be the seasons starters.

Speaking of which the first 25 rounds are as follows...

Round 1, Pick 1 - Hartford Harpooners: SP D. Barajas

After the draft is over I have decided that I will conduct team buisness on the day immediatly following the draft as it is a one time occurance.

Looking at my finances I see that my 1st and 3rd round picks are locked up for 5 years at a very reasonable rate. I then offer my second round pick SP Yarbrough a 2 year extension for $6,225,000 per season deal to meet his demand up from his 2.45 million he is making this year. Additionally I try and secure my 4th round pick SP Maddox with a 3 year extension for $4,445,000 per season deal. I also offer extensions to secure 1B's Lopez and Lane to keep them around for 3 extra years each.

After all is said and done I have every player selected in the top 25 selections except 20th round pick RF Richardson who refuses to negotiate at this point locked up for at least the next 3 years and still have a projected $21,000,000 to spend next off-season.

Now it is time to simulate until March 1st.

It is March 1st and appears that all the players I offered extensions to accepted them. Including all a handful of MLC's that have potential ratings over 1.5 stars or were high in important areas.

Additionally I also set-up my spring training roster with just the top 25 players selected in the draft and set it up so they sit every other day in theory.

Now it is time to start the draft in which I have the 9th pick. This is an extremely deep draft as there are 24 5 star players!

Round 1 - My scout wants me to take 5* 2B prospect Danny Patrick but I instead take 5* 2B David Brown who is a little less speedy but has a little more potential with his wood.

Round 2 - My scout wants me to take 4 1/2* C Alfredo Morales; but I already have two good young prospects at that position and instead go with 5* 3B prospect Brady Bowen who will help my worst area in the minors and has great speed for his position with a 94 / 100 / 100 rating in the three speed categories to go along with a decent bat.

Round 3 - My scout wants me to take another 2B prospect in 4 1/2* Robert Massey; but I again defy him and again select a weak position in my minors by selecting CF 4* prospect Domingo Hernandez who fits perfectly with my style of baseball.

Round 4 - My scout wants me to select 2 1/2* C Ed Bond with this pick. I instead opt to select a pitcher with the pick. The selection wound up being 2 1/2* CL Freddy Quintero who has potential to be a 93/91/78 pitcher with 28 endurance.

My draft class ended up looking like this...
Round 1, Pick 9 - Brooklyn Brownstones: 2B D. Brown - 5*
Round 2, Pick 9 - Brooklyn Brownstones: 3B B. Bowen - 5*
Round 3, Pick 9 - Brooklyn Brownstones: CF D. Hernández - 4*
Round 4, Pick 9 - Brooklyn Brownstones: CL F. Quintero - 2 1/2*
Round 5, Pick 9 - Brooklyn Brownstones: C C. Cardona - 2*
Round 6, Pick 9 - Brooklyn Brownstones: SS J. James - 2*
Round 7, Pick 9 - Brooklyn Brownstones: C D. Graham - 1*
Round 8, Pick 9 - Brooklyn Brownstones: C A. Díaz - 1*
Round 9, Pick 9 - Brooklyn Brownstones: C M. Bennett - 1*
Round 10, Pick 9 - Brooklyn Brownstones: 3B B. Young - 1*
Round 11, Pick 9 - Brooklyn Brownstones: C K. Hewson - 1*
Round 12, Pick 9 - Brooklyn Brownstones: MR R. Ford - 1/2*
Round 13, Pick 9 - Brooklyn Brownstones: MR G. Catron - 1/2*
Round 14, Pick 9 - Brooklyn Brownstones: MR H. Washington - 1/2*
Round 15, Pick 9 - Brooklyn Brownstones: SP B. Beck - 1/2*

Start of 1971 Regular Season

Well my team started off slow going 5-5 through the first part of Spring Training but finishing strong going 12-2 to finish up for a 17-7 record. Other top records included...

Quad City: 17-9
Valdosta: 15-9
Colorado: 14-10
New York: 14-10

I then went and turned off trades and set the rosters to a 25 man limit.

After going over my roster I decide on the following:

Rotation: Yarbrough, MacDonald, Halpin, Maddox, and Garner
Middle Relievers: King, Hawkins, Howe, Marnane
Mop-Up: Kodo
Setup: Ishibashi
Closer: Perez

vs RHP
1 - 3B Numbers
2 - 1B Lopez
3 - RF Richardson
4 - LF Mendoza
5 - CF Garcia
6 - 2B Lindsay
7 - C Long
8 -
9 - SS Hayes

vs LHP
1 - 3B Numbers
2 - LF Mendoza
3 - RF Richardson
4 - 1B Moore
5 - C Lopez
6 - 2B Lindsay
7 - CF Garcia
8 -
9 - SS Hayes

Our team mentality is win-now; with our owner expecting us to play above .500 baseball. Lets see if I can guide Brooklyn back to the promised land as I did two season's ago in 1969 before the letdown in 1970.

Brooklyn Triumphs in FOOL Classic
The 1971 FOOL Classic is history, and Front Office Offseason League has added another champion to its record book.

Brooklyn prevailed over Seattle today with a 2-1 victory at Cowpie Field. It was the Brownstones 2nd time claiming the title.

They compiled a 99-55 regular season record and finished in the first spot in the Continental League pennant chase.

End of Classic TBS

Thanks for the support, now continuing with the dynasty.

After the Classic was decided the following awards were handed out:

MVP:
CL - Rich Lang (BAL)
RL - Mel Brooks (QCY)

PoY:
CL - Carlos Gonzales (TOR)
RL - Maxwell Ewar (ELP)

RoY:
CL - Luis Mendoza (NYH)
RL - Bob Fuller (COM)

Now for my TBS:
I noticed that I did not have everyone locked up like I thought I did. It appears I have two regulars that are going to be possible FA's

31 year-old 2B Fred Lindsay (150 Games; 488 AB's; 63 Runs; 8 HRs; 89 RBIs; .324 BA; .877 OPS and 47.0 VORP) decided that he wanted to have a career year and is demanding almost $10 million a season for 3 years to re-sign.

32 year-old RF Roy Richardson (150 Games; 565 AB's; 99 Runs; 85HRs; 94 RBIs; .333 BA; .877 OPS and 46.5 VORP) also decided to have a career year and burn me. Mr. Richardson wants a 5 year deal worth $7.75 million per year to re-sign.

Seeing that I have about 20 million to play with for next season and I am not really deep at OF like I am at IF I decide to meed the demand of Richardson who batted in the important 3-hole for me last year. I added a team-option to the final year of his contract however, lets hope he accepts.

Start of Free Agency TBS

Well it appears RF Roy Richardson accepted my offer, which leaves me looking for a good 2B in FA.

Top Free Agents:
1B Mel Brooks - The reigning RL MVP is on the market
SP Carlos Gonzales - The reigning CL PoY is also on the market.
2B Connor Daniels
SS Bob Bath
MR Denny Hennessey
2B Fred Lindsay
MR Jim Stokes
SS Christian Larsen
C Sam Harmon

It appears that there is plenty of IF talent in this FA period and I am able to make an offer to any player as 1B Mel Brooks and SP Carlos Gonzales are both asking for almost 10 million per year which is well within my limits.

I am extremly tempted to make an offer for one of Brooks or Gonzales but that would eat up most of my cap space and instead decide to try and sign 28 year-old 2B Connor Daniels. He will fit in much better since signing Brooks would leave me to bench my current 1B Lopez or play one out of position. I am also stacked at SP so I feel no need to sign Gonzales at this point. Daniels wants a 5 year deal worth $7,315,000 per year so I offered him almost 8 million a year to hopefully land him.

My other offers are to:
SP Roberto Padilla on a 2 year $1.55 million deal.
MR Denny Hennessey for 2 years $700,000.
3B Roberto Gomez for 2 years $500,000.
1B Sancho Lopez for 2 years $2.5 million.

That is all the action I have decided to do for this portion.
