He's rapidly approaching "fuck that guy" territory with me, so far he seems like more hype than substance and he appears to be buying his own hype.

Hopefully the door DOES hit him in the ass on the way out.

I haven't seen anything this morning -- from Knoxville to national -- that doesn't pretty much decry his attempt to take a program hostage.

Quite a few are calling this the tipping point to force a fix for the completely broken system.

Me? I hope the door hits the Polynesian Princess in the ass on the way out and gives him a concussion.

Don't get me wrong, while I know we disagree on players getting paid, I think we agree the current way it's set up is pretty close to the dumbest possible version.

That being said, rumor is Dan Lanning ratted his family out to TN. I could see that turning into a very interesting lawsuit. I feel like if I reached out to another place of employment and then they called my boss, they would be opening themselves up to a lawsuit. While I have no sympathy for the kid or his family for when he pulled his stunt, the colleges are playing very dangerous games.

Would depend on what the expectation of privacy is.

In the upside down world we live in, I could certainly imagine Lanning getting in trouble for doing what is unquestionably the right thing.

There are rules against tampering, that aren't really enforced, but if Nico wanted to shop himself around the portal was open to do so. I don't think Tennessee is in any danger of lawsuits or anything else.

Props to Heupel for taking a stand. I watched Nico a few times last year and really wasn't impressed. This guy set the NIL record at the time of his signing, despite being in the same class as Manning, and I don't think he's close to Manning as a player.

I hate the University of Michigan, but kudos to them for already fundraising on Vance dropping the title trophy today.

While pretty much every source seems to lay this debacle heavily on the head of Imaleavin's meddling dad, I do appreciate the fact that several of the voices doing so have noted that Nico is young but not a child, and that it's up to him to stop being represented by bad actors.

The Nico thing is weird because it feels like a bad time to transfer. A lot of teams are already set at QB. Feels like he'll just end up playing for Texas Tech or some other 2nd tier school that doesn't get even close to the same attention as Tennessee.

Makes sense. I mean, during his two years as a starter, they went 13-12 and lost their only bowl game. He earned it.

Looking like UCLA for Nico. Not official yet but seems to be trending in that direction. Going to be interesting to see what he gets because it sounds like UCLA will be bidding against themselves as there's been minimal interest. The consensus seems to be that Tennessee was massively overpaying him yet his dad and the former UF staffer that's acting as his agent were going around asking for double what UT was paying.

Nico to UCLA is official. Sounds like he's getting around half what he would have gotten at Tennessee.

What an odd turn of events. His dad flipped his HS kid on signing day to Arkansas after getting a bigger payday and Madden never even took a visit there. Now this? Odd. I expect him to bounce after this year to a team needing a QB, but it is what it is at this point. Local kid.

Does that mean NIL wasn't the reason after all?

He definitely left because of NIL. No one else was willing to pay what they wanted and Tennessee wasn't going to be held hostage. His dad fucked him over.

Unless UCLA is significantly better at the skill positions and offensive line than people think in a tough league, may have also fucked him over in terms of long term NFL prospects as well.

Just smooth brain stuff all the way around.

Nico's brother, Madden, is leaving Arkansas for UCLA. That team is about to have their hands full.

And now Arkansas' collective is considering legally pursuing the money Madden owes for the buy out clause from his NIL deal. Most school collectives haven't pursued players for buyouts even though most contracts have them. But this kid never played a game for Arkansas, so they want their money back.

Good on them.

Every school needs to be doing this.

The Hogs aren’t known for great NFL quality QBs. No problem in him leaving for greener pastures

Don’t know the legalese, but yeah I want the money back. Need it for Pittman’s buyout if/when that happens

UNC paying him $10 million/year might end up being an all-time blunder.

People talk. There's probably a reason 32 NFL teams put word out to his agent that he wasn't in their plans.

dola: I have growing respect for people in positions of power who exit the stage when it is time.

Too many men keep plugging away well past their sell-by date.

It is refreshing when someone understands that it is time to put out the gone fishing sign and enjoy the fruits of their long career.

More like 1/3 his age. 73 vs. 24.

Age. Some people can stay sharp into their 90s.

But it is not crazy that a guy in his 70s would start slipping
