Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition (Released 28 Nov!)

RELEASE DATE: NOVEMBER 2012
Baldur's Gate

Somebody mentioned this here and I finally got a chance to investigate and now I'm suddenly and completely impatient about this re-release.

From the website:
Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition™ and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition™ will feature a re-forged version of the Infinity Engine with a variety of modern improvements.

I've still never finished that game. Computer I had it on way back when died in the 5th act and I've never gotten around to going back through.

I finished the first one and both Icewind Dales. Never finished BG2 or Planescape, unfortunately.

Oh man....that will work perfectly for me.

I have (yet another) big move slated for early summer & I said I'm finally getting a new home PC after that move (for the family of course ).

I got to the end and realized that my characters weren't strong enough to win the final battle. I refused to go back and do any more so I just left it at that. My oldest son has been playing all of the BI games for about 7 years straight. I'm sure he would be seriously stoked to see this.

Never finished it either, and it is one of those things on my "need to accomplish" list....

If it's budget priced I may pick it up. Though I've played through BG2 and ToB a half dozen times, not sure a graphics revamp is enough for me to go through again. Was never about the graphics.

God I wish Dragon Age was more like BG, what a let down that was.

The lead developer said it will cost less than $10. He said it would be ridiculous to charge more than that for a game that's more than 10 years old.

That makes it a must buy since I never finished the original...

it's also more expensive than originally thought. the iPad version will be $10, the PC and Mac version will be $20. that makes it less automatic and more wait and see for me

Yeah I may pay $15 for BG2. I don't think I'm dropping over $5 for BG1. For $20 you should get 1,2 and TOB.

Yeah, I'm becoming fairly skeptical. I have visions of Matrix Games "remaking" the Close Combat series....or rather....making an old game playable on new systems for $40 each. Once you get past the excitement and make the purchase, you realize that the modding community already did that.

So, I am now in the "wait and see" mode as well.

Of all the infinity engine games which are unbelievably awesome and which are just mediocre in terms of gameplay, story, arc, satifaction...?

I'll only answer for myself for what I played, I'm sure there are varying opinions.

1.Baldurs Gate 2. #1 by a large margin
2. Throne of Bhaal(BG2 Expansion)
---gap----
3. Icewind Dale 2
4. Icewind Dale 1
5. Baldurs Gate 1.

BG1 was great for it's time and a sign of things to come, but I don't think it holds up well to any of it's predecessors.

I have not played Planescape Torment. I think that would rate pretty high, my understanding is it has a much different feel than any of those listed games(or anything RPG since). I actually have the original CD I bought near release, but I never got around to playing it.

I currently have Rasaad and Neera in my party of Me, Imoen, Branwen and Kivan. I've never had Kivna in my party before, always preferring Misnc and Ajantis and Khalid, so I'm moving to Rasaad and Kivan as warriors type folks. I'm a fighter but I'm going to try the dual class thing everybody has always raved about. Beat the game three times before, and will dual to Cleric and be the dedicated cleric, freeing up Branwen's spot for someone better.

I'm really looking forward to this on the iPad. I never played the original. I suppose they're holding the iPad version while they work out the kinks with the PC, it would have been poetic for the release to be on 11/30. I believe that was the original release date.

Someone's going to come back and tell me when this is patched up enough to purchase, right?

I downloaded another update last night and...

Crash to desktop upon starting.

I think I'm going to write this one off.

I'm going to buy the Ipad version as soon as my Ipad updates to IOS 6. I'll let you know if it is a better launch than the PC version.

Soemtimes I'm at the edge of a map and I can;t click to the mov eaway, that wheel thing won't show up, and I have to close and reload the game to get it to work. that has happened roughly four times today.

So far I've had no problems other than dieing a lot. I don't remember this game being so hard. I hate to do it but I might set the slider all the way to the left to make it easier.

Has anyone tried cooperative play yet? Any good? Let me know, and when the game has stabilized, please.

I've had a few other issues. For example, after finishing the Nashkel mines and entering Chapter 3, I have never gotten the dream, to give me my next ability when I have slept,m and that was days ago in game time.

New patch, 1.2 is now out - must've gotten through their legal issues.
