there's now officially no differences...
..in height between the snow bank in front of our driveway when compared to the rest of the front yard And I'm not talking 6 inches everywhere, we're talking a good 3 1/2 feet, heh...
It started snowing yesterday afternoon and since it's been mighty windy from the start and we didn't have to go out, I never went out to snowblow the dang thing. The weather is really nasty, the wind making the snow whirlwind like crazy... The city snowplow has now passed a good 6 or 7 times on our street and well, aside from the fact that you see cars in the driveway, it's impossible to make the difference between the front yard and the driveway... Lotsa fun tomorrow when I'll decide to go out and clean that mess, oh well FM

I know you probably get sick of snow. But I have always loved it. Maybe one day I can move to a place that gets more snow...

How far above Montreal are you?
We are getting snow tonight, but it's rained here since Christmas Eve. I'm 1.5 hours SE of Montreal, 75-80 miles. |

Heh. Two years ago, I moved into a house in Calgary that had the misfortune of facing the opposite direction of the wind on most days. In the summer, the backyard got no breeze at all to cool you off, but the worst was the winter where it would snow about 2-3 cm a week, but the wind would carry all the snow from around the block into the front porch and sidewalk. I could look out the window and see green grass on my front lawn and the neighbours, but there was almost 5 feet of snow piled on the sidewalk leading to the front door, which had to be shoveled to get into the house.
Yeah, I don't miss living there. |

not that much above Montreal. We're about 2.25 hours NE of Montreal. You're below Sherbrooke, right. I'd say you're about 3.5 hours S-SW of us... Meteomedia.com is actually sayign that the temp is only at -4C here, with a wind factor putting it at -12C so I'm not really surprised that you're getting rained on right now... FM

I don't always mind snow, especially on days where I'm home and can take the time to go out and snowblow the whole thing. I sometimes enjoy snowblowing the white mess, especially like today, when I don'T work tomorrow and can wait until then. That would a whole other matter if I had to leave home at 7 tomorrow morning and had to go out in this nasty whirlwind of snow and snowblow the whole thing only to get it to come right back to my face... yes, we do, the line seems to cut at Drummondville, if you know it. About halfway between Montreal and Quebec City, when you drive in the Spring, the grass is noticeably greener when you're past Drummondville on your way to Montreal... Here's a pic I just took. Sorry for the poor quality, it was taken on long exposure without a flash, from our bedroom on the second floor of the house... The blue lines sort of represent both sides of the driveway and you can see my wife's car at the bottom left... FM

and if I can point out on that pic, on the other side of the street, the three boxes you can see about one third from the left are postal boxes. They stand about 5 1/2 feet tall...

heheh, nah, I can deal with that Right this minute my wife and I are simply glad that this weather wasn't going on on December 24th, when we went out for dinner to my parents' place. It's only a 25 minute ride but it could easily become a 1.5 hour nightmare in that kind of crap... FM

It was an unusally warm Christmas here this year, low seventies. It was strange going out on Christmas wearing a short sleeve shirt...

to close the loop on this, I went and clean the driveway yesterday morning, a good hour and fifteen minutes of snowblowing. Here's what the driveway looks like, again at night without a flash, from our bedroom window...
And here's what the house and driveway look like from the front... FM

I'm envisioning the leader of a settling party in the 1700s who stopped in FrogMan's general area and said to himself, "Well, this looks like as good of a place as any for us to live."
Leaders like that end up dead. |
